The cool thing about watching these Ana Vidovic videos is having met her and knowing what a gracious and friendly person she is to her fans. She's high class all the way, and her playing is so technically brilliant! Ana is my favourite artist. She seemed gently amused when I told her so. I guess a lot of people tell her that. She works really hard at her job, being the best possible musician she can be takes incredible dedication over many years. My hat's off to her because I could never work as intensely hard at something as she has. It's not remotely an accident that she's one of the best musicians in the world. This video is 10 years old. Her playing seems to me even more effortless today.
She's not tiny. She's about 5'8" or so, I'd guess. Standing next to her you wouldn't think she was particularly small. She has small bones and is thin, but not particularly short.
Until three weeks ago on UA-cam I never heard her play, and, at 67 I am glad cause it is just awesome. Glad to hear that she is humble and has this great gift.
Jay Bartlett they are lost in the rubbish of today's immoral music...And in turn sold their own identity in order to be accepted by the masses of American youth who have been robbed of their own identity and culture..Shame....
Every time I see this video, I want to like it but then realize that I already liked it. I wish I could like it 100 more times. This is a great performance.
love this amazing guitarist, who happens to be a beautiful woman and grew up as a child prodigy of the classical guitar. Her style, so precise and balanced is perfect for J.S. Bach's countrapuntal genius
The economics of being a musician in the age of Bach included having a patron, a royal person who would provide for his musicians and support them physically and financially.
Yeah now that you mention it, its sort of like if barrios(i know barrios isn't Spanish but you get my point) wrote it. Sorry for responding to a comment from 6 years ago btw
@@FusicPool It does not sound too much like Barrios. He would play with a more folkloric style as you can hear from his own recordings (even metal strings). I just feel that many Barrios' interpretations are just too "classical" and dry.
This reaches a depth far beneath what is considered today as beautiful music..Only the original soul can comprehend it's beauty and its ability to touch the virgin part of the soul which is not understood by many of today's youth who have had the rubbish of today's popular music thrown in their laps
elegance, style, grace, and beauty. the playing is well beyond good. this makes good reason to have nice stereo in home. she is one the best in the world.
no need to be trashy when you have real talent. she is nice looking, and nicely dressed woman. and the playing is great. the quality of the upload is very good too. sounds like she is in my living room playing.

Thanks for posting this! Been looking for this sonata in its entirety played by a wold class player with good production. Prayer answered, Ana sets the bar high, the Allegro is astoundingly fast and a very brave interpretation. Love it!
This quote may be of interest to some of you: "Vidović plays a Jim Redgate guitar exclusively and has said, "When I got it and began to play, I immediately knew that this was the instrument that I want to be playing for a long time"

ameblo.jp/galwayera/entry-12231162875.html BWV-1001 is just equal to sonata for violin solo in g-minor. Ana Vidovic has played it completely by guitar on behalf of violin. I must declare this is a nice behavior. Well, let's listen to this 2nd movement. . This is a typical g-minor fugue. And her guitar playing is so distinct and steady that we can comprehend what the fugue is. I think it's probably 3 or 4 voices excellent fugue. Anyway, Ana Vidovic is a truly great guitarist.
in order to play bach, single notes and triads,..etc you MUST have a powerful guitar, i realised through the years that in electric guitar it is not that important, its electric . but this is it! your fingers , strings and guitar. No excuses.
Claudio Cruzat I've been playing both types of guitar and its not the same techniques but eventually the effects in the electric guitar doesn't matter, if you're good you don't need the saturation. I play classical stuff like Jason Becker in my electric guitar and stuff like bach or tarrega in my española. And i forget it... things like "sweeping" is it! just the strings, your fingers and the guitar and thats an electric guitar's technique
Great arrangement, Ana did a great job quizzing all of the emotions out of the guitar. However, the violin does seem to deliver more warmth in this piece, just can't beat it.
Well I mean it was written for the violin. But I don't think she plays the violin, and she still likes the piece and wanted to perform it so she played it on guitar. I know I play all kinds of music on my guitar, not just guitar music. Like I play piano stuff, cello, violin, organ, concertos, and symphonies on my guitar. I'm not nearly as good as her of course, but guitarists like to get in on the fun too. Most guitar music was only written by guitarists, whereas other classical music was often written by people who didn't necessarily play every instrument they were writing for. So the guitar repertoire is a little more limited.
I think this guitar sounds better than the Redgate she plays now.....the Redgate is very loud...sometimes you don't need to reinvent the wheel...love her fabulous playing and prefer the more traditional Torres type guitar
I could play the fugue after a fashion at some point, so I believe I can grasp the level of skill and work a performance like hers would require. 0.0 Its humbling. Can't but cheer for every outlandish chord and fretboard transition she nails and those 16th runs she just purrs through. Lol.
Hmm.. came to see what Ana did about a certain fingering and noticed that she changed a note-A-flat to an open G-natural-to make a jump easier in the B section. I wonder what Bach would say...
Elle me fait penser à Frans Brüggen, elle prend soin des notes de musique. Un peu comme si elle se souciait de savoir comment elles vont au quotidien... Je pense bien à vous maître Brüggen, en espérant que vous alliez bien...
I like the artistic license used; it's not always what was written, but it suites the guitar very well. The fugue was really inspiring, but the presto was somewhat confusing to listen to.

Very well done! I always judge a musician more on how they play the slow pieces than the fast ones, because the slow pieces really have to breathe - she does them very well. (For a very different but amazing treatment of this piece see watch?v=TIZFzEsdx_Q.)
Every time I watch this I can't help but wonder why the only place she is booked in New York City is in some hole in the wall on Bleeker st. Is her agent/manager a rube or are the sophisticated New York audiences really not that sophisticated at all? I live here, so I know the answer. The last time I remember her being here she played at the YMCA. Ya gotta be kidding me! Somebody pinch me. I'm gonna go sulk now.

I don't know man. Bach depended heavily on having patronage from royalty and whatnot.
Well he had to have income somehow.
By composing this sort of music he made no income
Bach's income was coming from composing church music
The economics of being a musician in the age of Bach included having a patron, a royal person who would provide for his musicians and support them physically and financially.
Sounds like a very Spanish interpretation of Bach, and there is nothing wrong with that. It is very sensual and romantic.

Great arrangement, Ana did a great job quizzing all of the emotions out of the guitar. However, the violin does seem to deliver more warmth in this piece, just can't beat it.
wow, this is deeply moving.
it was not Segovia who saved the guitar, it was Mr. Bach--IMHO
Guitar?...Strange. I still think the violin is the most expressive instrument for this piece, though, although this one is good as well.
+rune-chan Remember that the 'big fugue' was arranged by JSB for organ also. It's miraculous whatever the instrument.
