  • ~ Ana Vidovic performing 'Serenata del Mar' at Zuidlaren Guitar Festival in 2009 ~
    ***
    Lì sul ciglio, assorta nel silenzio, ascolto il canto delle onde... e il canto del vento... e con mute parole dipingo il mare...
    Le spumose onde si rincorrono in una danza perpetua mosse dal soffio della brezza.....
    O, brezza marina, inebriami col tuo potere!

    Ana Vidović (born 8 November 1980 in Karlovac, SR Croatia, Yugoslavia) is one of the youngest virtuoso guitarists in the world. She started playing guitar at the age of five, inspired by her brother Viktor. By the age of 11 she was performing internationally, and at 13 became the youngest student to attend the prestigious National Musical Academy in Zagreb where she studied with Professor Istvan Romer. Vidović's reputation in Europe led to an invitation to study at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, U.S., with Manuel Barrueco, from where she graduated in May 2003. In an interview, she has stated that she plays lots of scales and uses a metronome.[1]
    Vidović has won an impressive number of prizes and international competitions all over the world. These include first prizes in the Albert Augustine International Competition in Bath, England, the Fernando Sor competition in Rome, Italy, and the Francisco Tárrega competition in Benicasim, Spain. Other top prizes include the Eurovision Competition for Young Artists, the Mauro Giuliani competition in Italy, the Printemps de la Guitare in Belgium, and the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York.
    Ana Vidović has given over one thousand public performances since first taking the stage in 1988. Her international performance career includes recitals in London, Paris, Vienna, Salzburg, Rome, Budapest, China, Warsaw, Tel Aviv, Oslo, Copenhagen, Toronto, Baltimore, San Francisco, Knoxville, Houston, Austin, Dallas, St. Louis, Jakarta,and Zuidlaren.

    Women are dominating Classical guitar. Ana Vidovic, Sharon Isbin, Tatyana Ryzhkova, Paola Renquena have set a standard few can attempt to achieve. Young artists like Grace Sheppard have some incredible role models and the future of classical guitar is theirs to own.

      What a Cat, such arrogance, those who can't perform themselves often set themselves up as some kind of self important envious, and arrogant critic, you should have the grace to accept a comment that is heartfelt and meant to be a kindness without being a cat, MEOW! Where are your manners, do you have any grace at all? If you have a mother, and were not just hatched and then slithered out from under some rock, I Imagine she would be ashamed of you! Who do you think you are, if you cannot perform yourself, you should at least respect those who can, and be kind to those who while not as knowledgeable as you, only wanted to express kindness. God only knows the profound lack of kindness in this world. If you cannot say something encouraging, keep your evil thoughts to yourself.

    That's why the performer gets to interpret it on stage and we all get to listen :)
    I find the bass line has its own kind of melody, perhaps closer to a counter melody, that is kind of beautiful to listen to on its own, especially if there are two distinct voices operating.

    Honestly, this is actually beautiful music and I think many people would disagree with you. However this is a form of music that you have to get used to before you can admire it. I don't think I enjoyed the first time I listened to music like this, but slowly you'll start to admire it and enjoy it. Which is very much unlike pop-music, which is instantly enjoyable.
    I'd really advice you to listen to more classical music, because eventually you'll be glad you did (Like I am right now).

    • @Gregorypeckory
      @Gregorypeckory 9 років тому +2

      No, your comment makes you look silly. There are as many artistically valid ways to approach guitar as there are guitarists, and classical isn't always better than rock, in fact some modern composers are avid rock fans. The music of Jimi Hendrix for example, has far more depth and creativity than that of John Williams, arguably a composer who, if he were food, would be a passable but unremarkable bag of fries from a fast food outlet.

    • @veetguitar
      @veetguitar 9 років тому

      Greg Vinson You are wrong but I cannot prove it.
      Even though I believe that I Jimi Hendrix is one of the biggest talents in the history of the guitar, he has been glorified to such an extend that the actual Jimi cannot compete with the image created by an audience that tends to glorify drug induced music making. In fact, judging from the countless life recordings one could consider Jimi Hendrix a fucked up genius, nothing more, nothing less.
      John Williams is one of the great composers of the 20th/21st century. To appreciate his art needs an educated listener.
      So to compare them really does not make any sense. Still, your comment challenged me to respond.

    • @Gregorypeckory
      @Gregorypeckory 9 років тому

      veetguitar Sorry but you haven't changed my mind. Williams is revered because of Star Wars, and most of those who call him a "great" only know of composers who write soundtracks, because they aren't the audience for classical music outside pop culture, and probably never attended a symphony in their lives, outside of school field trips.
      People listen to Jimi still because his music still sounds fresh and vibrant; it has nothing to do with drugs. He was an incredibly brilliant, original and creative person who broke new ground; (unlike Williams, imo) that is what should be remembered, and is the reason people still love him.
      Many great artists of all kinds and from all periods took drugs, but audiences love their work because it's great; not because they took drugs, (did you seriously concern yourself with that as you read "The Pit And The Pendulum"?) any more than we choose our art by whether someone ate lots of fatty foods, or based on how much sex they had; all that is irrelevant to how inspiring their art is. Jimi has stood the test of time so far, because of his fertile imagination, and his ability to bring ambitious, colorful musical visions to life, not because of what he consumed.
      Hopefully that will continue long after most fans won't even know details of his personal life without reading a biography. I have never met a Hendrix fan who ever included drugs as one of the many things they said they liked about him. We like him because his music inspires and brings joy to the world; it transcends silly details of his personal life.

    Molto bene! I guest female guitarists are more into the classical aspect of the traditional acoustic guitar. I can get use to that. For some reason Japanese female guitarists also like classic Spanish tunes. Porque es lo máximo!

    Sí, realmente es la primera vez que aprecio esa técnica de pulgar, medio, índice. Se requiere de gran destreza para lograr el sonido de tres dedos con solamente dos.

    Agreed, Ana is a great guitarist. Her interpretations of almost anything she performs are phenomenal.
    I don't understand why someone who hates her playing would watch her youtube videos only to talk trash....unless they're jealous.

    Arpegiattos? She is playing tremolos throughout the entire piece, and the melody in the bass line is quite distinct.

    I wonder what they would say about Segovia the master of classical guitar as his playing and strings were more course than her playing... he was brilliant and she is a fine/tuned musician.

    This beautiful executed piece of tremolos seemed to be inspired by "Recuerdos de la Alhambra", composed by Francisco Tárrega in 1896.

    Zasto ove dame nema u Beogradu na gitar art festivalu? Sigurno bi imala sta da prikaze iz svog bogatog repertoara. Ona je praznik za usi i oci.

    Great piece of music - great guitarist. Has something in common with Recuerdos de la Alhambra - which she also plays well. All you critics and know-it-alls out there are just envious that you cannot even begin to play as well as she can - and all you music lovers with praises and accolades - bravo and compliments on your excellent taste!.
