  • Today, we're looking at the 3 options BMW enthusiasts have to diagnosing their cars at home. Between an OBD bluetooth adapter, a brand-specific scanner, and dealer-level software, you can diagnose and fix almost any issue on your car. Hopefully this video helps you decide which tools you need and how to use them!
    Note: This video description contains affiliate links. If you click on one of them and make a purchase, I may receive a commission. This occurs at no extra cost to you, but helps keep the channel going!
    Thanks to Foxwell for sending out a scanner and sponsoring this video. Link to their scanner here: amzn.to/3Cq2aR3 (affiliate)
    To scan your Check Engine Light using your phone, I use a bluetooth adapter like this: amzn.to/3uvEZDm (affiliate)
    Or, if you want to use dealer-level tools, you can download software on the internet (bimmergeeks for example) and use a K+DCAN Cable like so: amzn.to/3Gqu6oJ (affiliate)

    Good video post. One important Note about Foxwell --- Updating Foxwell scanner software can ONLY be performed using a Windows computer, NOT a Mac (at least not that I have found).

    Can you make a video turorial on how to use INPA?

    Hey man, I think you should try to advertise your channel. Its painful to see you getting barely any views. Great video as always man!

      Haha I'm trying! I used to post to reddit and facebook, but then those groups have rules against self promotion. Best thing for the videos is to like, comment, and watch all the way through. Otherwise, people can share with friends by word of mouth, etc. Do you have any other ideas? I just need one viral video to really pop-off... 🤔

      @@TheBimmerBarn Here are some things I’d be interested in. Having a budget you start with, let’s say 5,000$ and a car in mind, for example f80 M3. You’ll use only money from that budget to buy cars, fix them and flip for profit. You’ll show the process of finding and buying them as well as repairing. Another idea is to add some car that you will be building for a certain purpose, by restoring it and modifying it, doing it on budget.

      @@TheBimmerBarn I think building a project car will have people interested in that build coming back to your channel. Because your channel being DIY only, gets only short term views by people that want to get something done. By no means don’t stop your DIYs because they are great, I’m just saying that adding something specific and long term might just work for your channel.

      @@TheBimmerBarn I think your channel has great content, I'm particularly interested because I also own an E46 wagon but I guess is not the type of car that will get you the most views unfortunately. I assume you know about the M539 restorations channel, that is a good reference of a BMW channel growing quickly to take some ideas from. Good luck!

    I know this is old but May be I will get an answer here. I have 2004 BMW M3, that needs quite a bit of work. Main problem - convertible top. Would Foxwell be able to read the codes on it, or do I need the full blown laptop version? Thank you

    • @TheBimmerBarn
      @TheBimmerBarn  Рік тому +2

      Foxwell should be able to communicate with the convertible top module no problem! But usually those problems are mechanical, like bent frame or leaking cylinders. Good luck and thanks for watching!

    Can’t beat INPA, it’s just the best, but I do also have an icarsoft scanner it’s ok to keep in the car if anything was to happen while on the road 👍🏻

    • @TheBimmerBarn
      @TheBimmerBarn  2 роки тому +1

      I have an iCarsoft scanner too, it freezes up every once in a while... The Foxwell performs good, but they do have other models with more features. I'd love to try getting an Autel or other expensive scanner one day.

    you forgot the ultimate level of car diagnostic, the oscilloscopes (ofc they're pretty useless if you don't know what to do with them)

    100GB HD? LOL. Anyway, the INPA OBD2 Cable is the best way to go. Most people have a laptop or tablet that has way more storage space than 100GB, besides you can just plug in a USB HD and install the software on it... Your assumptions are completely incorrect.
