Thank You Phil, Thank You Rick Chapman...So very sorry about that mis-identification Phil. That is not at all Plum and so obvious Oak ( I wonder, did I have a senior moment? ).. That knot sure looks like some kind of a Lizard eye looking at ya, (another senior moment? omg )... Beautiful turning today Phil (Rick, YOUR "Plum" worked out far better than MY "Plum" HA) I'm Plum confused

@@rickchapman3051 HA, Rick I can totally relate, entirely!!! I have lived my working life, over 50+ years, in a serious hands on machine shop, tooling, with very high tolerances BUT when it comes time to repair or install new plumbing I have yet to complete a project without several trips to the hardware store, omg!! I am glad I am not alone and always so glad when it's over so I can get back to my shop, my comfort zone.. TM

Well Phil, if it's not plumb it the nurseries fault. My neighbor was frustrated because his plumb tree never gave him any fruit. He planted it years before I moved there. Well one day he cut it down and gave me a few pieces. I put it in my garage and moved it 3 times. Finally after over 30 years I came across it. I obviously gave it to the right person. Otherwise it might still be in my blank pile. I love what you did with it.

I like that answer and it solves a mystery of my own. Since moving to Washington I’ve seen lots of very obvious plum trees here. The purple leaves are even the right shape. They flower but I’ve never seen even one plum produced. Sounds like Valerie is correct. Flowering Plum instead of orchard plum. Guess I’ll quit waiting for plums on these trees.

Your first "plum" piece looks similar to some Cork Oak that I got recently. The bark is really thick and has a cork consistency. Just a suggestion. I keep some wet wipes or Clorox wipes in my shop and they work surprisingly well if you spill some CA glue if you use it right away. Also works for most solvents you spill or get on your hands.

I’ve just put in a comment on your little bike escapade a few minutes ago., you saying it was very easy riding the bike anybody could do it, and I put in easy Peezy lemon squeezy, I suppose I should’ve put in easy Peezy CA glue, 😂😂, I’ve got to hand it to you, Phil! But in this case, you wouldn’t be able to hold it, it’s a good job you didn’t have to do something else before you cleans your hands as you would’ve been stuck up., 😂😂 , as for the Bandsaw, from past experience of doing similar, blunt blade on one side, Or it could even be down to the blade being too slack, Many years ago, working as a subcontract worker for organ company, there was a stupid idiot there that when he had finished using the bandsaw he was slacking the blade off, just for the hell of it, very dangerous, Right, I suppose about to start watching your woodburning, don’t bottle it all up, give it a squeeze, 😂,

When your stand it up, showing the bottom, it looks like MICHIGAN. When you stand it up, showing the bowl-side, it looks like a baseball mitt.
So, I'm calling this turning "Mitmit".

Well, that was plum kind of Rick to give you that wood. He proper dropped a plum in your lap with this one. ;-).
At first, oddly-shaped bowls with bark inclusions and such looked unattractive.. But with each video of yours I come to appreciate them more. These differences give each bowl a unique character.
I too question whether that wood was from any member of the Prunus species, but am willing to be persuaded if Rick declares that it was plum.
Thanks again for posting, Phil. I hope that your skin is recovered from that close encounter with the CA glue.

I’m glad you solved the Plum mystery and hope your sticky situation that you created 😂 has solved it self as well and besides all that the bowl has turned out really nice and I actually started laughing with you in the beginning but definitely not at you.
    All the best to you.
    Regards Jim

What a pretty piece! I see that you do have gloves in your shop. Maybe wearing those the next time you use any type of super glue will leave your fingers safe. Yes, I learned that the hard way. 😉 Love your laugh! It always makes me giggle!! 😊

A couple years ago, I cut myself with a swedish carving knife, I went to get some stiches, and the doctor said that siper glue would be better. Well, it healed up good. I dont go in for stiches anymore. If I make it through a week without glueing my fingers I call it a good week.

That's a nice piece of wood, we can see the feather in the grain, grand finish you got, by the way you mentioned the coats of finish at the end but you forgot to mention the single coat of C A glue to fingers before turning begins Ahahahahahahahaha hope you've got them clean now. All the best from Lincolnshire UK

SRV had to super glue the ends of his fingers. Those 13 gauge guitar strings are murder. I have some thin super glue, used it for wood an a huge gaush in my hand. I usually do it without trying lol. Loved the end results.

I've had days start out like that. But if it does and I'm getting ready to go fishing. That's somebody upstairs telling you to put the boat back under the shed and sit in the rocking chair on the back porch.

Yes acetone cut CA glue , but so does nail polish remover - with acetone - may be a safer alternative to straight acetone .
