      Yeah the Schrader valve when you unscrew that top one sounded like it was leaking just so you know might want to replace the Schrader valves on that unit

      recommend ,return vents above the doors ,that house is at negative pressure,and it will struggle with no returns.

      @@MariosACandRefrigeration All you have to do is take an inch off the bottom of the doors, if that's the case.

      @@jthonn most new doors have a 1 inch piece of press wood on the bottom,for support.

    There might be a problem when you walk up and the compressor sounds more like a vacuum pump 😂, that sounds is cavitation I believe.

    Been there done that. Suit up, put on your gloves and tape your wrists and ankles and wear a a good quality filter mask. Don't forget to spread some bait when your done.

    that system is overfilled. Someone added refrigerant to get the suction pressure up and never looked at the plugged evaporator.

    We bought a Victor Rat Trap that is powered by "C" Batteries, and it sure gets the job done! There was an opening in our Log Garage from the outside that they found. It was killing one or two per night. There are no poisons for the Cat to get into! No more problems this year 😉

    Some critters for sure, she even said so. I never heard of keeping the doors closed because of varmints before. There was something rattling in that compressor that did stop, weird, but we have all heard some weird stuff in units and compressors before. It has got to be cooling much better now. As someone has stated before, there sure are lots of package units in your area. Nice job

    The beginning conditions at 3:20 are ridiculous once you see the condition of the indoor Coil at 8:23. That amount if blockage should make the coil freeze up. The ending low superheat at 14:56 indicates that the metering device must be an orifice. It's likely that someone previously overcharged the system to address a persistent icing issue due to very low airflow. Therefore, it's essential to check the external static pressures. Sealing the return might further reduce airflow.
    It's also highly probable that the system is too large for the home. A smaller, properly sized unit might be a better match for the current ductwork.

      Because the evaporator coils are always wet with dew when in operation, any filter leakage causes a problem very quickly.

    That return flex should be replaced. That dust indicates rodent damage.

    I find the ones that have the coil outside the house with the compressor interesting. I take it it is always temperate climate there or something. Cannot imagine that in a place like Bismarck North Dakota. You would have tons of cold air coming in from that opening.

    Use fiberglass filter? Where you were measuring liquid line temperature and pressure was before the condenser. Did it have a pressure port after the condenser?

    There's gotta be a rat living in that duct work. That was nasty. I'm surprised a coil that dirty didn't effect the pressures too much. You should have told that lady that closing doors isn't going to keep the critters out. Rats can squeeze into wherever they want. Give her a good spook. lol

    that poor coil still looks dirty afte rbeing cleane dI had a rheem package unit i eventually was able to get rid of and get a regular split unit with a heat and a gas furnace

    Maybe she needs to adopt a young barn cat who has been taught by Momma Kitty how to kill quickly and that the prey is food.

      Cats don't need to be taught to hunt or kill mice. It's in their nature. Mine is 14, and had never seen a mouse til about 16 months ago when a family of them found their way into my house. It took her about 3 weeks to get all 9 of them. I haven't seen one since.

      Yeah for sure, and it has a huge passageway right into the home's interior. I'll bet that sucker has chewed a hole part way between filter closet and the compressor unit, allowing detours into crawl space and framing. Nasty.

    I still don’t understand why you use that foam gun. The coil cleaner is supposed to be put on as a liquid so the foaming action pushes the debris out of the coil.

    in this situation wouldn't it make sense to put filter inside package unit instead of at grill - protect the coil in case of return duct leakage.

      because of that hole in the return, it sucks unfiltered air through any gaps or cracks.

      A clogged filter will buckle and let dusty air in contact with the dew covered evaporator. The dust and water form a mud that becomes even more insulating when they dry. Doesn't take but a week for a leaky airfilter to cause a problem with the evaporator.

      @@richardbartlett6932 well something like air is not generally excepted to be run through a an AC compressor. Things like contamination of moisture is not going to condense the way refrigeration has been designed to condense.

      yep, that was a really poor attempt at cleaning the coil...cover it with soapy water and leave it. You could see the foam on the ground was clean with no dirt dragged out the coil so it's doing nothing. The finished result was still surface dirty so it'll still be plugged .

    Ugh that filter.....to thick for that return as it was just sucking it in!! Maybe a regular filter would be better? Take care and I appreciate the video!

      Doesn't matter how thick the filter is. Once it clogs it will buckle and let dust collect on the evaporator.

    That coil cleaner is useless, it's just foamy soap. . Buy some decent stuff that actually gets the dirt out.
    Get both coils properly clean, upgrade or repair the ducting then pull the charge and weigh it back in..

    AND to finish a proper cleaning job on the coil.. chemicals aren't cutting it, looks like a fin cleaning tool is in order..

    12 subcool and 11 superheat before clean
    10 subcool and 0 superheat after indoor coil clean
    overcharged, but i dont think outdoor coil clean would make any difference

      probably the last guy did a gas and go to get suction pressure up, vs. find and fix the issues. it's on the right track now *pun intended*
