When you think you've measured the wire correctly always add a foot to a foot and a ½ extra. Better to have extra there than not enough.
Reminds me of a saying my wonderful aunt Marge RIP used to say:" I cut it twice, and it's still too short" lolol😅😅😅

Consider purchasing a set of fiberglass rods. You can feed wires across attics or through walls. I use them in old houses all the time.
I've even used a pair or three of 10 ft electrical conduit to "fish" data cable across ceilings.
Tough job for 1 guy but you got it done. I know the feeling of wires being cut too short. could always do a splice in the attic in the future.
Yeah, always better to have 5ft extra than 2 inches too short

As an old electrician I would rather have 10 foot of wire over than an inch too short. Other critiques are the lock nut was backwards and you didn't tighten it down. The inside unit looked like they were running it without filters or covers, couldn't really see. Nonetheless I enjoyed the video.
My boss used to hate when I cut wires longer than needed. I always used to say "just in case it needs to be moved". lol.

they probably used filters just have really bad duct leakage you'll see that with older homes especially ones that did have ac when they were built
@@WeatherNut27 That's actually a best practice, to loop the wire in an area where you go around bends or transition between access layers in case someone needs that slack in the future.

Customer didn’t want to fix that gas flex into unit? That is a big no no out here in CA.
It’s not good anywhere. Several years ago I went to a home where the compressor in the old ungrounded condenser shorted to ground. Energized the line set that grounded thru the coil cabinet to the furnace. Since the gas line was an old steel line in the yard it was a perfect ground so there was an arc between the furnace cabinet and the gas flex that passed thru the furnace cabinet. Nearly burned the home to the ground.
That's one of the few times that you almost wish it would have turned out to have been the high pressure switch cracked and lost the entire charge. That was an ordeal right there. 😎👍
Curtis, I know this is older video but I am just watching it again. I wonder, if when pulling the line set, it would be a good idea to pull roll of half inch pex with it. Pex is cheap. You could push your thermostat wire through it and eliminate a lot of the low voltage issues you have. A low voltage short would always be at one end or the other, not in the attic or crawl space. Just a thought. Take care sir.

Commercial roof tops and residential attics. I’ve measured 132’. In attic. Measured 128’ on Target stores. Roof tops where your boots sink into the tar. You can’t leave your tools in the sun they get too hot to touch. Man do I miss it

Did you soak the T stat wire in hot papper juice before you installed it? Lololol. Honda makes a tape with little rats on it like that to make splices. Thank you, tree huggers for protein based wire insulation!

As a union electrician I usually have a clock running when doing service calls or having start up problems Not just for my billing for the customer, but for a service statement for the manufacturer. It happens often enough

I wouldn't be able to handle that chirping from the smoke alarm for to long. I always carry 9v batteries and change them
If our hvac inspector see us using a gas whip going inside the furnace they would make me change it.
Forsure most places it's code...also a oil trap outside the unit between gas regulator and gas whip
May I suggest looking for a fibreglass fish tape? They don't conduct if they should accidentally come in contact with a live wire. More $$ but a lot safer.

Yellow is Cooling, BLUE wire is common almost on all systems. At least the great ones...Trane, American Standard, Nordyne and all there brands. Rheem, Ruud and a few other used blue as the reversing valve. On most all HVAC systems, BLUE is COMMON.
Your absolutely right, why not use the correct color wire if it's available, brown is for 2nd stage of heat.
I hate attics with no plywood rat run or even a couple of 2x4s to shinny across on your hands and knees. Only costs a few bucks and saves a guy sooo much time up there, especially if you have to drag a bag of tools along.
I bought a few of those cheap military backpacks, not sure the name, but they are quite small and only sling across one shoulder but they do have a thin belly strap, helps keep it centered on your back. Big enough for a meter, pliers, wrenches, 11 in 1 and some electrical fittings. Time saver.

Changed my 9th contactor so far this year on them reheem units so far 24v coils keep going bad poping fuzes when call for ac it's a wonderful time.
You got something else going on, man. I'd suggest replacing your breaker, too.

It's probably hard to pay sub contractors ( your installers) after that and knowing they didn't even check a.c. running.
You definitely show the ups and downs and I give you props on that. If that was employees I'd chewed their asses out. As always you do what ever it takes to get the job done and I highly respect you for that.
Installers obviously checked and found no signal at outside condenser. They called hvac guy, who said he will come out and check it. They went home, job done and off the clock. Hvac guy made sure he had tstat wire on van before he left for job.
I think anyone in the HVAC service and repair biz should open side hustle as exterminator. Just my thinking!

It’s not a new furnace . It’s just a new condenser.
If you can find someone to do it cheaper, I'm happy to fix their work. That's my pitch for cheap customers.

Same as any other trade profession... school to learn theory and basic knowledge, then tons of field work to gain wisdom and troubleshooting knowledge.
