- This has been a project I've been wanting to do for a LONG time. I started making some pieces over a year ago and finally managed to getting around to finishing if off!
I think it's going to be a great table to play some Middle Earth: Strategy Battle Game on ... or any game really that has your brave adventurers travelling through a rocky forest!
These are the trees I used on this layout:

This was SO therapeutic to watch!!!! Really brought back the days were we would build over the weekend and feed off of each others imagination and energy:)!!!!! GOOD TIMES!!!!!!!
Really lovely. The video itself was very relaxing also
Thanks!! I'm trying to keep up with you and all the other mega-channels! You've all set the bar so high these days. UA-cam ain't like it used to be a decade ago :)
@@KnightsOfDice No, it really isn't, for better and for worse I'm not sure. I grew up in the hobby with your channel and others (like terranaholic, kamloopian, btp, mwg) as a staple. As a country kid UA-cam was my connection to the community so that's why I started a channel. You really laid the groundwork for what the hobby is now and It makes me really happy to see how well you've adapted your format for current UA-cam.
@@Miscast wow, there is a name I have not heard in a LONG time!! Kamloopian! I really appreciate you watching, and the kind comments. Thanks!
That's a wonderfully looking tabletop. Just right for hunting Hobbits.
I don't have any of the hobbits painted (well, actually I finally got around to painting Sam the last week!) but it would make for some great photos!
If you paint the interior of the holes the same color as the surrounding it makes them less visible.
I loved the vid, beautiful work, great informative content.
If you put your sculptamold in a cake iceing bag you can use it like filler out of the gun. That would allow you to have the same material for a leapord spot that looks cohesive.
Good idea. I'll give it a shot. It sets really quickly though so will need to be done in tiny batches
They look super nice! Makes me want to make more terrain! Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
Thanks Viv. That was a really helpful presentation and they look awesome.
Glad you found it helpful, cheers!
Very nice project and it looks awesome, really enjoy that one.
Thanks mate, I really appreciate you talking the time to comment. It was a super fun project to do!
That looks like a lot of fun putting it all together
It really was, especially the last few steps. That's when everything comes together
Viv you rock! This video was inspiring and therapeutic!
It was great fun to do, and great fun to edit. I had loads of footage so had to be brutal.
Awesome mate well done cheers
Thanks!
Great build tutorial and video
Thanks!
Great job indeed!! More of this kind, please 😁
Lots more coming!
Ma maaaaan, this is becoming my new go-to channel!
Mate, I'm LOVING what you are doing!! Keep smashing it man!
That was really good.
Thanks! Appreciate you taking the time to comment, it's really helpful and helps the channel grow!
Inspired job, I do like this terrain...
Thanks so much!
Rubbish was great, but, now I've just subscribed here. It was your initial demos of Spectre Version One that got me interested in tabletop gaming. I've since done a ton of 54mm terrain building. A great hobby during a pandemic, let me tell you. I'm studying the V2 rulebook, but, you have a way of making certain games seem easy. I've nagged you before about the possibility of some Version Two demos, as the game has changed/improved regarding Suppression, eliminating points for building armies, etc. Life is busy, but, here's to hoping that you can share some more Spectre wisdom, as I continue to learn the game. Cheers!
Version 2 is certainly better, I've only played it all little and I still have some reservations about suppression. The layout of the v2 rulebook is great though. It will feature soon, along with a few other games so stay tuned!
@@KnightsOfDice I certainly shall. I'm curious about your opinions on Suppression, how it could be improved, etc. So, I will indeed stay tuned :-)
Subscribed!
Good timing. I'm working on winter pine forests for the Ardennes and felt that the pine stands I've done so far were a little flat, in both senses of the term.
Ooooh. Ardennes forest eh?! Very nice ... I want to play more Bolt Action this year and will be working on some Russian/Eastern European terrain in a few months.
Lookin good my man
Thanks!
Great video very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
That looks awesome Viv . I think making a proper river with twists and turns and have those templates on the on the turns would look amazing 😉
That would be cool! I actually played around with some rivers after just yesterday!
Looks excellent!
Cheers ... sorry I haven't responded to your email yet, it will be done soon!!
That’s all right! :)
Cracking build! Looks great as well. I think you did a grand job of making the new blend with the old. Cheers!
Thanks. From a distance they work well, but up close the originals have more interest and colour variation
@@KnightsOfDice Were you tempted to paint over the old pieces with the new colour scheme?
Drinking game: Take a sip everytime Viv says "pieces".
Haha!!! Bonus points for who ever counts them all!!
Aldi sells cheap Christmas trees each year
Haha, it's a crazy time of year! There's always a rush on them. It's almost become like finding gold!
Perfect timing. I'm finishing off some trees and looking to make some rocky outcrops and I find your video. I saw BMC using caulk and wondered what I could get here. Google Bunnings and see the Parfix brand. Hmmm you're using Parfix, where are you? Heidelberg haha. I'm in Warrandyte. Small world. Great video, thanks for helping newbies.
haha, amazing! It most certainly is a small world!
Well done. We call this type of terrain, Canadian Shield.
Canadian Shield?
@@KnightsOfDice The Canadian Shield, also called the Laurentian Plateau, is a large area of exposed Precambrian igneous and high-grade metamorphic rocks that forms the ancient geologic core of the North American continent
Cheers for the video Viv, good to see you back.
What plaster did you put in the moulds?
Casting Plaster from CSR. It's okay, but I typically use Hydrostone, it's just much more expensive
@@KnightsOfDice cheers!
Looks great, perfect for north america or central or northern europe.
Or ANY planet for a Stargate SG1 game!! Haha :)
@@KnightsOfDice 😎👍
What do you use for casting?
I love your videos cuz you can help point me to good products i can get a bunnings!
For these molds I used CSR Casting Plaster, you can usually find it in the timber yard at Bunnings. Around $25 for a 20k bag.
❤
Great ideas and results! What did you use for the bases?
This is just 3mm MDF that I bevelled the edges with a good knife.
@@KnightsOfDicesorry to jump on this old comment but I was looking incase someone had already asked about the bases. Does the MDF warp? Did you have to seal it or anything? I'm about to pull the trigger and buy some custom cutout mdf boards to the size of templates that I've designed. But having a panic that they'll end up warped.
@@snaithiusproductions8445 warping can be a factor to consider, especially when using products that shrink when they dry, like excessive PVA or modelling compounds with water and plaster. It really is only a problem if the MDF base you are using has large empty spaces. For those kinds of bases, I do sometimes screw them down to a big board making sure I can easily remove the screws after. A video on the topic might be beneficial. Cheers
What did you use for the flat bases for the hills? It seems thin but it didn't warp.
Just 3mm MDF. I think for this project, as I was using a lot of plaster compound, I think I might have screwed them down to a larger, thicker board (which I don't think I showed in the video), did my texturing, let them dry and then touched up the small holes after I removed the screws
where do you guys get thes wonderful shaped MDF bases?
Thanks for watching. The bases were either cut on the scroll saw or the lasers at work, most likely a blend of both.
May i ask where you got boxes of pine trees from . or you made them ?
Ebay. Link on the description, they are from EveModel
Where did you buy the mat you are building on?
Are you talking about the cutting mat here @2:19 ...? I've no idea to be honest, it's probably a decade old, but I would imagine you'd find them at any arts and craft store in your area.
8:36 that wall is terrain maker s p0rn
That glue gun name and from?
It's a Ryobi battery powered glue gun that I bought from Bunnings
