This album was made after the passing of their original drummer, Jimmy "the Rev" Sullivan. Jimmy was heavily influenced by Dream Theater's original drummer, Mike Portnoy, who was kind enough to lay down the tracks for the Nightmare album and do a tour to keep A7X going during this difficult time in their career. That's why you hear the drums all through the video and it ends showing Sullivan's drum set which you would have seen if it wasn't cut short at the end. Dream Theater is considered the kings of prog metal and their songs are long, technically difficult to play, have odd time signatures, and there are ever-changing melodic parts that mainly appeal to musicians. Jimmy was influenced by one of the top drummers of the world for the 90's era and it showed in his playing as he was the most accomplished player for his craft in the band. Dream Theater has been around a long time and has released 15 studio albums in their career. I was never much into their vocalist though he had his occasional great moments but the band is ridiculous. They won a Grammy a while back for a song called Alien. You might look into it. It's musician porn though so be prepared to be hit with a million notes and time signature changes.
Alien wasnt a while back it was off their most recent album like 3 years ago. Also there is nothing wrong with the lead singer of Dream Theater. I saw them live in 2021. Absolutely awesome.

I took my daughter and some of her friends to see A7F, about 12 years ago. They put on a great show in Chicago. They had a guy hang himself from the stage lights overhead (a part of the show). Everybody screamed when he jumped and was left hanging through this song. It was wild. Mad talent on guitars. It's on my playlist too and i'm 69 now. 😅

Let me tell you I used to call this band "avenged butt fold" but when I saw them live? In Bismarck North Dakota in November 2011? With "Hell Yeah"? Vinnie Paul from Pantera? I'll tell you you Ace Seven "X" totally schooled everyone that night. They totally blew everyone away on that stage. And when he sang "Your Fuckin nightmare!!!!!!!" I swear he held that note for like five minutes and then the rest of the band kicked into the next song? I realized Ace Seven "X" is one of the greatest bands of all time.
Avenged Sevenfold started as late 90s metalcore, then evolved into a new thrash metal reborn. They were the forefront of what was called The New Wave of American Heavy Metal in the early 2000s after The New Wave of British Heavy Metal in the early 80s led by Def Leppard and Iron Maiden. For some reason, there are a lot of A7X haters, but I love them. This album came out when I was living in the UK as a US servicemember in the Royal School of Military Engineers. Listen to A7X's third album, City of Evil, and songs Bat Country, The Beast and the Harlot, Seize the Day, and Burn It Down. Their best!

I get "Bill and Ted" and Static-X vibes once in a while. "NOBODY" is a calmer A7X song with Synyster Gates' killer guitar licks that pierce brain cells. 🎸
2010. This album in PARTICULAR sticks out for me, as I'm a Dream Theater fan. Their founding drummer the Rev died and his favorite drummer was Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater. He played drums on this album and subsequent tour and partly, as a result, wound up leaving/ being kicked out of his band for 13 years. He just rejoined the band. A7X is a damned good band . I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND listening to Dream Theater as well. Even if you do it off the channel. EVERYONE in the band is a GOD at their instrument. Give them a listen man

I saw Avenged Sevenfold at Ozzfest in 2006 and at the time they were new and the Ozzfest crowd wasn’t feeling their sound. They were one of the first bands to play as people were filing in and no one was really paying them much attention. Then they broke out an absolutely pitch perfect cover of Pantera’s Walk and that place went fucking crazy. The crowd was theirs after that. There’s versions of the live performances of Walk online. You should check one out. It was absolutely sick.
Avenged Sevenfold is an American heavy metal band from Huntington Beach, California, formed in 1999. I recomend checkin out "A Little Piece Of Heaven" and "Welcome to the Family"
Avenged Sevenfold started in 1999, they were still teenagers in high school when they released their debut album Sounding The Seventh Trumpet. Then, in 2003, they released Waking The Fallen, which featured their first popular song "Unholy Confessions. After that, in 2005, they released their critically acclaimed, fan-favorite album, City Of Evil, which features more popular tracks such as "Bat Country" and "Beast and the Harlot". After that, in 2007, they released their self-titled album which features "Afterlife" and "A Little Piece of Heaven". During the making of their 2010 album Nightmare, their original drummer The Rev passed away, which was a massive toll on them because he would write a lot of the songs and was the main heart and soul of the band. They got ex-Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy to fill in as the drummer. Since then, they've went through a few more drummer changes before officially sticking with Suicidal Tendencies drummer Brooks Wackerman. They released Hail To The King in 2013, The Stage in 2016, and Life Is But A Dream in 2023. The official line-up is: M. Shadows - Lead Vocals, Keyboards (1999 - present) and Acoustic Guitar (only on Sounding The Seventh Trumpet) Zacky Vengeance - Rhythm Guitar, Backing Vocals (1999 - present) and Lead Guitar (only on Sounding The Seventh Trumpet) Synyster Gates - Lead Guitar, Keyboards, Backing Vocals (2001 - present) and Co-Lead Vocals (2013 - present) Johnny Christ - Bass, Backing Vocals (2002 - present) and Harsh Vocals (Live Only/2016 - present) Brooks Wackerman - Drums (2015 - present) Ex-Members: The Rev - Drums, Backing Vocals, Piano (1999 - 2009; his death) and Co-Lead Vocals (2007 - 2009) Matt Wendt - Bass (only on Sounding The Seventh Trumpet) Justin Sane - Bass and Piano (Live Only/2000-2001; the I Won't See You Tonight duology is about him) Dameon Ash - Bass (Live Only/2001-2002) Arin Ilejay - Drums (2013 - 2015; did work on the Call Of Duty singles and Hail To The King) Mike Portnoy - Drums (2010; did the drums on Nightmare and touring) [It should be said, be careful when reacting to music videos. For example, the official "Afterlife" music video cuts out a really good part of the song. So, before you react to music videos, check the time between a lyric video and the music video to see if you're gonna miss out on anything]
I had this song as my ringtone for a long time, my kids heard it played - a lot, and my oldest son was around 9 or 10. It came on the radio in the car first they said my phone was ringing and then bam my son hits the very first Nightmare at the exact time as M. Shadows, he counted the beats. My youngest (about the time he was 5) could hit every Oi, Oi, Oi on AC/DC's TNT with a severe speech delay. ...Music does more than just give us something to listen to. I'm really proud of this journey I see you going on, even if I only comment now and again, because Music *is the* Universal Language. This is the first album without The Rev on the drums but they do have some of his vocals. Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater did the drums for the record using the demos Jimmy had done on a drum machine so he kinda had an idea of what Jimmy was going for. Mike did the tour and I think he did a masterful job of honoring Jimmy..The Rev. Anything after 2010 won't be The Rev on drums. The music never gets old for me. Try some stuff off their early albums, Bat Country is one, Beast and The Harlot, pretty much all of the self titled (or white) album is my favorite.
Another rabbit hole has been entered!

Cool man, I don't listen to these guys so I'll be taking the journey with you. Great guitar tone 👌
Afterlife, Buried Alive, Bat Country and Hail to the King are Bangers. Softer Songs like So Far Away and Sieze the day. Are great reat too. The Avenged Sevenfold rabbit hole is massive. My current favourite band.
The Stage
Is epic
I get "Bill and Ted" and Static-X vibes once in a while.
"NOBODY" is a calmer A7X song with Synyster Gates' killer guitar licks that pierce brain cells. 🎸
Symptom of being human!! I've seen them multiple times in concert. Brilliant band
Fuck yeah!!! It's about time!. React to anything off the album 'waking the fallen'. Some of their early stuff. This band has an amazing history.
Give them a listen man
Hail to the King!!
Once again .... MACHINE HEAD - A FAREWELL TO ARMS!!!!!!!!!!!
My man, you NEED to listen to Buried Alive, such a great song, many changes..so good. Thanks for the vid!

I’ve been a long time metal fan and these guys are one of the newer bands, relatively speaking, that I really like. Buried Alive or A Little Piece of Heaven are my favourite A7X songs. Add them to your list bro…

And yes... dive down the rabbit hole. They are a bunch of great guys with awesome fkn songs, and then tragedy.. 🤘🤘 glad you finally watched em
Beast and the Harlot is an epic track that shows off everyone in the band’s skills. Wicked track. Well worth checking out.
Avenged Sevenfold is an American heavy metal band from Huntington Beach, California, formed in 1999. I recomend checkin out "A Little Piece Of Heaven" and "Welcome to the Family"
So Far Away…great song but the backstory behind it I think you’ll appreciate why fans have a soft spot for it.

[It should be said, be careful when reacting to music videos.
Ive seen them live twice. They opened for Metallica in 2017 and then I just saw them again in 2023 over the summer on their tour. Cool band.
