My dad was telling me about the P-51 at our airshow this past weekend. He’s a retired air force loadmaster. We were lucky enough to have a world war 2 plane demonstrating its skills for us.
The Darkstar does indeed exist. It’s being (as far as WE know) referred to as the “Son of the Blackbird” with its actual name being “SR-72 Darkstar”. It’s 98’ long, with a comfortable operational ceiling of 80k feet (though I’m sure it can go higher), as well as bolstering potential Mach 6+ speeds. It was initially developed to be a UAV with the same missions as it’s predecessor, the SR-71 Blackbird. But that’s legit all us normal folks know about it, or think we know.
The "SR-72" is a design proposal that Lockheed has been pushing for a decade now, the DOD largely appears to still be on the fence. I think that the mission that Lockheed is going for, ISR over denied airspace, has largely been handled by the X-37B. Which being an orbital vehicle isn't violating anyone's airspace to collect the intelligence.
I remember that when I was 14 or something my American uncle told me that his dad flew the F-14 Tomcat on the gulf of sidra incident, he was just joking about that but still it made me investigate about the Tomcat and besides it being an old plane that probably it will not fly I still loved it and the looks and the sweep wing design is beautiful.
5:20 I don't want to contradict him because I'm certainly less experienced, but I'm fairly confident that the F-35A doesn't have thrust vectoring of any kind. Slightly confused why he would claim that.
There have been some changes to the F-35 software that allowed different, ummm, behavior. Not a pilot, just a Retired Librarian interested in everything.
You are a very humble fighter jet pilot. I like the way you say everyone can be a pilot like you. I truly believe you are one of the best to be chosen to be a fighter pilot. Great video. Thumb up.

the f-14 wasn't trash at all while being as big as it was its turn rate could rival the eagle and compete with the f-16. big target in a dogfight sure but it had the same rcs as the eagle which is apparently a bad thing on the f-14 and not reversely. the f-14D successfully fired AIM-120s it just didn't service them. The only bad thing about the tomcat was maintenance, and don't let people tell you differently.
what do you mean by this expression? Do you say this because this guy is “not the best” or because top gun maverick isn’t as “hot” of a topic right now? BTW I think this guy might be a great pilot
It's the twin tail symmetry. Wasn't it the first time they used that on a jet? That's also why the P38 and the XF11 were such beautes, symmetry! And of course the A12.
@Erdrick68 I just recently had the chance to see one close up and in-person at a museum in Wildwood NJ. I never really understood how massive they were. The cockpit must have been 12 or 14 feet off the ground ...
I disagree about the SU 57. It was jointly developed by Sukhoi, Russia and HAL, India. And it look more like the F-22 rather than the F-35. Also, you forgot to explain the Kvochur maneuver that the Su57 pilot pulled off.
I got to load armament onto fighters, specialized in 16s, but also loaded on 15s, 10s, and 22s. There's a reason they didn't feature a 22 in that movie, itd have ate everything up with ease. That thing is a total monster...straight out of every opposing pilots nightmares, there's nothing they can do to avoid a 22 deciding to end them. The SU-57 is similar to the 35 but it's not actually a STEALTH jet, it's low visibility, very different. Which is why a skilled 35 pilot could take one down fairly easily and why a 22 would absolutely curb stomp it
@@uorsoyes...the tactical knowledge that comes with actually helping train the AF version of "Top Gun" at Nellis is "New Star Wars fan level". I'm saying in real life the Navy would've made a call to AF command and requested some 22's to either do the mission run for them or provide safety for the exit. Honestly they'd probably just use drones so there's no risk at all to our pilots for the actual run itself. The hamfisted Yada Yada in the movie wouldn't actually fly. What? You think in reality everyone is just giant waterheads and would insist on doing it themselves in inferior equipment? No, that's wish fulfillment, in reality you use the best you have available and if you don't have it you ask another branch for it. AF provides the 22s and the pilots of them and not too mention all of the more sophisticated surveillance for accuracy.
Good analysis, until you misidentified the capability of the F-35's engine "nozzle actually moves to make the aircraft turn tighter in a turn circle and also to fire off weapons." Worked on the F-35 test program for over 15 years. No, the engine nozzle didn't move to make the plane turn tighter. The nozzle on the F-35B did rotate down in the jet borne flight regime mode (i.e. vertical maneuvering). In the up and away mode, the nozzle was fixed aft. The rest of his F-35 analysis was spot on. Also, great comments on the other aircraft, although as a Tomcat pilot, the truth is always a bit hard to endure.
@@mattf20c27 Yeah, F-22 has thrust vectoring. F-35A and F-35C don't. The F-35B only has thrust vectoring for taking off and landing vertically, not turning tighter like the F-22 does.
What? the F/A-18 wasnt the first Multyrole fighter, that was the F-16. also he said the Su-57 is a F35? i guess that being a pilot doesnt make you a plane expert
The F-4 Phantom would certainly have to count as multirole before either of those right? You could even make a good argument for the P-47 and F4U both being multirole back in WWII because while those were both badass fighters, they did way more attack missions.
The F-35 bit surprised me, But the F-18 was the first aircraft designed with being a multi role fighter in mind. The F-16 was built purely to be an air superiority and the multi role functionality was added later. The F-18 was also the first aircraft to prove the effectiveness of multi role fighter during operation desert storm.
The Chinese J-35(formerly FC-31) and the Su-75(still only a concept) are planes considered to be similar to the F-35. The Su 57 is more inspired by the F22 considering its thrust vectoring capability and twin engine design.
Actually the capabilities he presented to the F-35 and the Felon are just 5-th gen capabilities in general. Su-57 was created to counter the F-22 Raptor rather than F-35. If we want to compare F-35 to something Russian, it's better to pick a Su-75
I know Some of them Wiz. I love the Tomcat. My favorite ever. The Hornet is my Second favorite. Yep The Mustang. Awesome fighter. Lucky for Cruise. I had a Liking for the F-35 Lighting 2. It’s awesome it can Operate on Aircraft Carriers.
5:26 Sorry that is absolutely wrong. The F-35 doesnt have thrust vectoring. The F-35B can rotate its nozzle to land vertically, but the nozzle doesn't move to make the aircraft turn faster, it actually doesn't move at all with on the F-35 A (Air Force) and F-35C (Navy). Also, "many fifth generation aircraft are their own strike package" is also just a weird statement. First of all, the F-22 can basically do nothing but air superiorty, so his point about being able to do everything is just not applicable. Then there is also the fact there arent really any other 5th gen aircraft. Neither the SU-57 nor the J-20 are actually in use or mass produced.
- "the F-22 can basically do nothing but air superiorty" It can carry 2x 1,000 lb JDAMs. Last I checked, JDAMs are bombs. The F-22's radar and passive sensor suite (AN/ALR-94) can make it function basically as a mini-AWACS. So maybe is can't technically "do everything," but it can do stuff most others can't.

I love the F-18 as well, first time I saw that fighter jet was in Independence Day (1996). That scene where they all fly in a big fleet formation to attack the alien ship was awe-inspiring. I used to draw that plane in school (not really listening to the teacher) because I was lost in the clouds so to speak thinking about that plane (and the alien ships too, loved that movie).
bro i had the same observation. F-35 series dont use TVC during flight.Only F35B STOVL variant uses it for Take off , transition and landing phase. Man this means u know your fighters

"The first thing I think of when I see the F-14 Tomcat is a target" "Pure love. Its the most beautiful airplane on the face of the planet" (on the Super Hornet) How can a man be so giga based
The F/A-18 in the film is the E/F Super Hornet. The E variety is a single seat fighter and the F is a two seat fighter, also I thought the SU-57 was based off the F-22?
The Su-57 is meant to be a competitor to the F-22; how close it really is depends on how much RT you watch. Design wise its closest relation is the Su-27 family. The "F35ski" is the Su-75, which hasn't flown yet.
@@joshuastefanick4806 Helping, the instructors flew the aircraft. The actors never touched the controls as civilians aren’t allowed to fly active Navy aircraft.
Wait the SU-57 Felon is an analog t the F-35? I thought it was supposed to be a competitor to the F-22. Makes it a little bit sadder that there are only 11 functional Felons out there.
for looks its similar the the f-22 but for its role its more like the f-35. The su-57 is a multi-role fighter like the f-35 where the f-22 is a pure air superiority fighter.
Actually the F-16 also a multirole came before the F-18. The Darkstar actually looks more similar to the design concept of the SR-72, that Skunk Works is developing or has completed development who knows.
You'll be even more surprised to find that the Marine Corps has fighter jets too. Yeah, it's weird. But I doubt that the Marine Corps actually need it, given that Air Force and Navy have more than enough jets to establish air superiority and conduct close air support for infantry marines.

I appreciate you for not immediately rubbish talk the Felon like any American fan does and stated some nice facts about it, Im not a fan but hate to see realities get shredded by blinded fans towards a nice piece of engineering, my love will always be the F14 followed by Su-27 and Mig-29 and JAS-39, I know a weird taste but then the felon is more than anyone thinks and it’s nice to meet someone despite being on the opposite side still acknowledging some special stuff about it, thank you
My dad was telling me about the P-51 at our airshow this past weekend. He’s a retired air force loadmaster. We were lucky enough to have a world war 2 plane demonstrating its skills for us.
Awesome insight on fighter jets!! Thanks for the break down.
I like how humble he is.
Really a gentleman
You knew this guy had to have a Hornet background the way he was taking jabs at the Big Fighter! Cool breakdown Whiz.
Which being an orbital vehicle isn't violating anyone's airspace to collect the intelligence.
the SR-72 is not called the Darkstar
I remember that when I was 14 or something my American uncle told me that his dad flew the F-14 Tomcat on the gulf of sidra incident, he was just joking about that but still it made me investigate about the Tomcat and besides it being an old plane that probably it will not fly I still loved it and the looks and the sweep wing design is beautiful.
one of the most humble human beings and a real class act
Wow! The Directional Infrared Counter Measure is crazy. I'd love to see a video of an aircraft using it. Loved the explanations!
Certainly reminds me of Star Trek Point defense phasers
I could be incorrrect but most modern day missiles are radar guided?
What a humble guy and great breakdown of all these jets.
5:20 I don't want to contradict him because I'm certainly less experienced, but I'm fairly confident that the F-35A doesn't have thrust vectoring of any kind. Slightly confused why he would claim that.
Prob thinking of the f22
More likely he had the F-35B on mind, or simply a mix up. That one definitely has thrust vectoring while 35A and 35C do not.
@@n0steeze True, but if I'm correct, the F-35B uses thrust vectoring solely for vtol, which still doesn't match his description.
There have been some changes to the F-35 software that allowed different, ummm, behavior.
Not a pilot, just a Retired Librarian interested in everything.
@@thomashanson6603 Yeah I believe you're right, was more focused on the F35 and thrust vectoring than on what claims he actually made.
You are a very humble fighter jet pilot. I like the way you say everyone can be a pilot like you. I truly believe you are one of the best to be chosen to be a fighter pilot. Great video. Thumb up.
at 8:02 i felt it when he said " if i was the SU-57 driver"
This is a typical American moron who ignores and demeans anything that is not American made.
This chap is my favourite guy on the interweb. Watched a few of these and most are up their own posteriors. This guy is the best.
Wiz: "F-14 is trash"
Me: "But it's cool, though."
I might be crazy, but on looks.. I'd say it's among my favorites. Nerding "Afterburner" like crazy as a kid might have added some more sentimental value to the bird too...
Because hes a fanboy ask any pilot who flew both and they'll chose the tomcat because its more capable
the f-14 wasn't trash at all while being as big as it was its turn rate could rival the eagle and compete with the f-16. big target in a dogfight sure but it had the same rcs as the eagle which is apparently a bad thing on the f-14 and not reversely. the f-14D successfully fired AIM-120s it just didn't service them. The only bad thing about the tomcat was maintenance, and don't let people tell you differently.
WIRED striking when the iron is frozen solid as usual
what do you mean by this expression? Do you say this because this guy is “not the best” or because top gun maverick isn’t as “hot” of a topic right now? BTW I think this guy might be a great pilot
@@GolddenWaffles no, he's saying the video is really late to be released compared to when the film came out.
He was right about the SU-57 scene cause that fella could shoot down maverick before he even had a chance to see it
Loved how humble he is about his origins. Key to success.
I still think that the F-14 Tomcat is one of the best looking fighter jets ....
It's the twin tail symmetry. Wasn't it the first time they used that on a jet?
That's also why the P38 and the XF11 were such beautes, symmetry!
And of course the A12.
Those big honking Tomcats were the sexiest things to ever take to the sky.
@Erdrick68 I just recently had the chance to see one close up and in-person at a museum in Wildwood NJ. I never really understood how massive they were. The cockpit must have been 12 or 14 feet off the ground ...
@@1down4upworkshop61 should have gone to the site of the old Grumman HQ on Long Island.
Matthew you are a blessed human being to call yourself a fighter jet pilot. 🎉 Lucky you.
This was a really fun video snd Whiz was awesome guy to interview. Hope to see you in the skies soon Whiz o7
I disagree about the SU 57. It was jointly developed by Sukhoi, Russia and HAL, India. And it look more like the F-22 rather than the F-35. Also, you forgot to explain the Kvochur maneuver that the Su57 pilot pulled off.
i love that flare sound. sounds like me in the morning after drinking way too much beer…
Which is why a skilled 35 pilot could take one down fairly easily and why a 22 would absolutely curb stomp it
The F-22 it's not a navy fighter 😅. That's the reason it wasn't featured in the movie
Bros tactical knowlage is on a "new Star wars fan" level
@@rpsnider85 bro, it is much longer than it suppose to be.
This Pilot's self deprecating sense of humor makes him perfect for the next Top Gun movie .... He's comic timing is perfect as would be his flying ☺️
9:20 "A lot of dinosaurs being burned." A funny and excellent metaphor for fuel.
No thrust vectoring? Only F22 right?
@@mattf20c27 Yeah, F-22 has thrust vectoring. F-35A and F-35C don't. The F-35B only has thrust vectoring for taking off and landing vertically, not turning tighter like the F-22 does.
@@elijahprasad7884 Technically not thrust vectoring on the B.
Nice "garage" you guys have selected for this interview...i like the car and the plane in the background ;-)
When he was talking about the missiles he said "Sparrow" but the picture was of an AGM-88 HARM air to ground anti-radiation missile
What? the F/A-18 wasnt the first Multyrole fighter, that was the F-16. also he said the Su-57 is a F35? i guess that being a pilot doesnt make you a plane expert
Remember, Buckley is a squid and he admitted that he isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer.
The F-4 Phantom would certainly have to count as multirole before either of those right? You could even make a good argument for the P-47 and F4U both being multirole back in WWII because while those were both badass fighters, they did way more attack missions.
@@chrisdoe2659 True, but the F-16 was "Officially" the first american Multi-Rol figther! the P-47 was insanely good at ground attack
There is no plane on this planet past or present as beautiful and more iconic than the F-14 Tomcat.
Actually the capabilities he presented to the F-35 and the Felon are just 5-th gen capabilities in general.
Su-57 was created to counter the F-22 Raptor rather than F-35.
If we want to compare F-35 to something Russian, it's better to pick a Su-75
What's an Su-75? That sounds made up...
He speaks so well. Fine persona🤌🏼
Humility is rare and good lord not everyone can or should do "it"
South Philly represent.
- "the F-22 can basically do nothing but air superiorty"
It can carry 2x 1,000 lb JDAMs. Last I checked, JDAMs are bombs.
The F-22's radar and passive sensor suite (AN/ALR-94) can make it function basically as a mini-AWACS.
So maybe is can't technically "do everything," but it can do stuff most others can't.
Blue angles by the way is referring to a group of skilled aviators that do air shows. And yes I am a PTFS player
id love to have a callsign as 'rizz'

To be nitpicky it was an F35C, not an F35A
I love the F-18 as well, first time I saw that fighter jet was in Independence Day (1996). That scene where they all fly in a big fleet formation to attack the alien ship was awe-inspiring. I used to draw that plane in school (not really listening to the teacher) because I was lost in the clouds so to speak thinking about that plane (and the alien ships too, loved that movie).
Was he thinking of the F-35B when he mentioned the moving nozzle? Plus, it can only be used for STOVL
I thought all models had a nozzle that moved, but the B moved way down for vertical landing.
@@shmookins F-35 has no TVC, which is what I think he implied

The F/A-18 in the film is the E/F Super Hornet. The E variety is a single seat fighter and the F is a two seat fighter, also I thought the SU-57 was based off the F-22?
The Su-57 is meant to be a competitor to the F-22; how close it really is depends on how much RT you watch. Design wise its closest relation is the Su-27 family.
The "F35ski" is the Su-75, which hasn't flown yet.

@@lilhead9454and Felon was developed earlier then F35, so, calling it a copy paste of F35 is ignorant.

I had no idea either. I honestly wonder _WHY_ it is like that. Why the need for fighter pilots in the navy instead of the just Air Force.
You'll be even more surprised to find that the Marine Corps has fighter jets too. Yeah, it's weird. But I doubt that the Marine Corps actually need it, given that Air Force and Navy have more than enough jets to establish air superiority and conduct close air support for infantry marines.
Fun fact: the su57 is not a copy paste of the f35 but the f22s contract competitor the yf23.
