    I am a 4th year med student from Bristol, and I loved this video. I couldnt relate to everything obviously I havent started on call shifts yet and all that, but finally someone said it: is the best course in the world dont get me wrong, but sometimes, medicine is overglamourised and overhyped. Loved it!

      How is medicine at Bristol so far? I got an offer from it for a 2023 start and really excited to start! I heard though that Bristol was especially druggy, is this something that you notice quite alot? Also how is the diversity in bristol?
      Hope you have an amazing weekend!

    Drs who stay late is silly, and I don't respect it at all. To me it shows. weakness of character played off as devotion to the profession! Hand over and go home! Also yes the culture is changing, but I have met me extremely arrogant consultant who have made the life of a junior hell.

    • @Kiran.Morjaria
      @Kiran.Morjaria  3 роки тому +9

      I agree about handing over and going home, but sometimes you have a personal responsibility to a patient's care and staying a little bit late to complete a task fully for someone that is unwell makes more sense than handing it over to the already busy on call team

    Hi, iam a student studying in Sixth Form, i wanted to reach out for some advice, can you do a video on routes into medicine and some advice you think on them, (i find your tone of voice and method of talking very good for learning and acknowledging things and understanding) also if you could include somethings that would help boost applications such as work experience and what types and how to do them etc.. and extra things someone could do to increase their chances in progressing in the medical field as well as helping when applying for university. If that makes sense, question me if it doesnt.
    Thank you very much in advance!

      Hey Nadim, that totally makes sense and I’ll definitely look into doing more of these videos. It’s not really my vibe at the moment so may take a while for me to get around to, so I can definitely point you in the direction of some great UA-camrs who have loads of content about getting into med school? Would that be useful?

    I think there needs to be much better mental health care provision for NHS staff,as someone who started nurses training and did not complete due to mental health issues I really think there needs to be more emotional support and also good nutritional food available within hospital canteens.
    I can't quite believe actually how under supported NHS staff are and some basic things like that extra mental health support and even things like on site massage and maybe even a gym etc should be provided for staff.If they want to retain their staff and not have such hign burn out then it seems that these things are a relatively easy and affordable things to implement.The staff that look after us need to be looked after especially those staff who may not always have the best support systems or family support...not everyone has that kind of support and it does seem to favour those with very robust support systems.
    In a way the system encourages that kind of macho culture with its hierarchical structure and lets see if you can survive this which does not always make out for the most empathic doctors or nurses and then with the added pressure of understaffing it can make for a really toxic culture within hospitals..that was my expereince anyway but then I wasn't in the strongest place mentally at the time.
    I really believe with the right investment and some good modernising and management then we for the moeny could have the best forst class health service beating the US system which wastes tons of money.We should really know our NHS is worth paying some extra for if we have to and we would see the positive results throughout society but then thatgoes for social services and education too.

      Hey Alex, great question. So if you end up staying until 8pm when you're supposed to be finishing at 5pm - and it's not because of an unwell patient just that there were not enough doctors on the ward to finish jobs and you ended up leaving late, then you can exception report this. In theory this means that you will either get paid for these extra hours, or will get time off in lieu. This also highlights that if in certain jobs there are a lot of exception reports, then that job needs extra support/staff.

    Hi Kiran! I just came across your channel and I think your advice and videos are super helpful, but I have a few questions id like for you to answer! I want to become a doctor In the future and it’s always been my dream, but one thing that does concern me is the amount of years it takes, with all the residency and everything, I see it takes so many years which puts me off, but then when I think of doing something else, I’m just not interested in anything else, except medicine. so what do you think I should do, is this career not for me?? does it ACTUALLY take that long?
    another thing is how much doctors get paid.
    the pay doesn’t seem to be so high after years of studying, I don’t know if it’s worth it or not, in the UK, Ive heard doctors don’t get paid as much, is that true?
    Especially since in America, they get paid soo much more than doctors in The Uk.
    How much do junior doctors make at the beginning, Does the pay increase as you go up, and how much would it rise to? I’d love these questions to be answered if you are able to answer! Thank you so much.

    • @Kiran.Morjaria
      @Kiran.Morjaria  2 роки тому

      Hey, I’ve got whole videos on the pay of doctors that is worth checking out! The best thing would be to get work experience and see if it’s really for you, it’s a long slog and there are easiest ways to make money if that’s your primary aim!

    • @Kiran.Morjaria

      It depends why you want to do it! If to make money, then there are easier ways, if you really like the look of the job then get work experience and see if it’s something you like!
      I wouldn’t worry about robots, there are lots of jobs they can’t do and they’ll be used as adjuncts to doctors for centuries to come
