I have a 2012 Nissan Sentra S with over 225,000 miles on it. Never had an issue with the original CVT. I changed the fluid every 60,000 miles as required in the owner’s manual. Nissan is capable to be reliable as Toyota and Honda. You haters should learn how to read a manual and drive a car properly and you won’t have any problems long term.
Applying your anecdotal experience to a car manufacturer with a reported history of CVT issues isn’t logically sound. I’m glad your Nissan w/ CVT worked out for you, but that’s not always the case. I could provide you with my anecdotes of how my wife’s 2015 rouge AWD needed a new transmission just before the warranty expired (phew!) or how I had an Altima that also had its CVT replaced before getting out of warranty. But these anecdotes don’t acknowledge that there is a larger systemic problem with the Nissan CVTs crapping out.
No question about it!!! Pathfinder. I reviewed both, drove both, and hands down, well, the Pathfinder. I loved it so much I bought a Platinum 2 days ago from Plaza Nissan in Hamilton, White with the Black roof and the Chestnut interior, super nice color combination. People are telling me it looks SO much like a Land Rover, quite a compliment for this vehicle. For the money, a very impressive vehicle!! Really like the video Chris, clear and to the point, , ,
I want to replace my 2004 Armada LE 4X4, ( one of the best SUV with power and room) , but still gas mileage is the same with newer models. Now I need a mid size SUV, how do you think about the 3rd row seat area ( room) in 2022 highlander vs pathfinder
We just recently purchased the Pathfinder SL with premium package. Lots to learn with the technology but so far absolutely love this vehicle. We wanted to love the Toyota as they have the reliability and resale but simply we don't like the exterior styling or the interior as much so for us the Pathfinder wins.
I ordered the 2022 Pathfinder Platinum 4WD. This vehicle is very good for off road type conditions but it is not all terrain. The suspension is a bit more ridged on the Pathfinder for better off road operation and better handling. The Highlander is more of an urban type van than an off road type vehicle. I like the Pathfinder controls and way of setting things up for preferences. The 2022 Pathfinder drives more like a truck which is something I like for its way of handling and being more rugged. I have a 2016 Murano Platinum AWD. After I bought it I put in high quality stiffer shocks and new springs to raise the Murano 2 inches. The handling and performance in snow storms and on unpaved rough country roads improved with this modification.
I recently decided to purchase a SVU. I drove just about all mid-size suvs with both t and 3 seats. For me the Highlander won hands down! I have back problems and getting in and out of any vehicle can be a problem. Not a problem with the Highlander! Liked the screen as well. I was expecting big things from the Nissan, Honda, Kia, Subaru, et al. The Highlander won!!
I drove the Pathfinder, Highlander and Pilot expecting the Highlander to win (almost skipped the Pathfinder test drive) but the Pathfinder won hands all over the place! It rode the smoothest out of the three and felt the snappiest. The width difference was also noticeable in favor of the Pathfinder.

Great review. I'd go with the Pathfinder for its boxer looks and interior accommodations. The Highlander actually comes with a Qi wireless charger. It's under the first level of the center console.
Definitely the Pathfinder, the look of the Highlander's exterior isn't far removed from the last-gen Pathfinder. Nissan really thought it out really well, especially for a family-oriented vehicle. Thanks for the review.

There are a lot of doubts, Eddie. Looks aren't everything, unless that's as deep as you can go. I could say the Pathfinder is a wannabe Explorer in looks but what difference does it make? I will buy a Pathfinder soon. You misstated the MPG on it. The highway is 29 MPG and people are posting they are getting 30+. Nissan's V6 engine is the best in the industry and built in Decherd, Tennessee. The styling is awesome. The technology and size is great. I am going to use it for traveling around the USA. I need an all around vehicle with room and comfort, but still has some power and fuel economy.
Just placed an order for the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid, the deciding factor for me was fuel economy. Now I just have to wait 8 months ( give or take) to get it, lol.
I am a Toyota fan boy but I really like the Nissan Pathfinder, it’s not the original PATHFINDER with 4X4 transfer case but it’s more comfortable for family uses.
I own a 2010 Toyota Highlander (original owner). It's got 200k miles on it but still drives like new. However I will admit, 2022 Nissan Pathfinder looks so much better
One with boxy and muscular look and one with elegant and prestige look. Both are reliable and user friendly cars, and this Toyota V6 engine (seems to be classified as 3.5L V6 as Toyota has not made any V6 engine recently) is a powerful and responsive engine and none to second from other competitors. The resell value of Toyota is much stronger than Nissan. So... Highlander would be the choice.
We chose a Highlander (Limited) mainly because of its sleek sporty styling. The “boxier” look of the Pathfinder, Explorer, Equinox, and Palisade just seems too antiquated.
Any other reasons that made you choose the Highlander? I'm still hesitating between the 2 (Highlander vs Pathfinder). I drove both and the Pathfinder technologies are awesome, but the Toyota does a great job under the hood. So, I'm looking for pros and cons of both. The interior space of the Pathfinder is a bit bigger, but other than that it's hard to pick!
@@mooz8026 I can’t compare the Highlander to the new Pathfinder because I haven’t done any research on the Pathfinder. My choice was based mostly on styling, although the Highlander’s 29-mpg and large 12.3” screen were also appealing. It is pretty hard to find much fault with any 3-row SUV on the market these days, as is also true for most vehicles. The Highlander’s pricing may be higher …. I paid about $45,000 for a super-loaded Limited.
Like the comparison! But, I've sat in the third row of both and the Highlander's is significantly smaller, tighter and less comfortable than the Pathfinder's 3rd row. So, I can't agree with you in saying they're the same. I'd definitely pick the Pathfinder over the Highlander - not only for the 3rd row, but also because of its better look, more truckish feel, nice interior, better AWD system and there are much less of them on the road as opposed to the Highlander. Again, nice video!
I got my 2022 Nissan Pathfinder SV for the 8 seats for my family. Hands down best Truck Ive owned. Those who already have the Pathfinder Especially when on cruise control for long distance driving it acts like a Tesla. No video on youtube mentions it .
It would definitely be the Pathfinder ... Nissan products are on par right now !! I hope they do the same thing for their Infiniti brand that needs a whole lineup refresh .. Furthermore this video was clear and uniquely detailed .. I appreciate it and the outro song was a slice of heaven that fits perfectly with the video .. Thank you for another amazing video ! 👍👍
I'll take the Pathfinder! ;) BTW QI charger is pronounced "Chee" :) Your videos get better and batter mate! Keep it up. I have the new Frontier sitting at my house!
Just bougth a Toyota Highlander Platinum black with caramel leather. More confort, resale, realibility, i wont go off road, and the AWD with the torque vectoring is plenty. And need the 5000 lbs towing. 3.5 V6 in the Toyota, wireless in the center console,
I got me a 2022 Nissan Pathfinder SV last month I LOVE IT people tell me it looks like a Range Rover must be the box look and the letters in the back . I traded my Nissan Kicks S. Glad I did. Also the back seat has a bar u can scoop it up for more leg room for the 3rd row !
Highlander all the way. I have a 2021 XSE and LOVE it!! BTW the iQ wirless charger is in the armrest. Really there is no contest between the two. The Highlander has much better quality, dependability, and is sweet to drive. Nissan has soooo much to improve with its new design. I'm glad to see that as a whole it is getting rid of those terrible CVT transmissions. It would definitely be wise to waited a couple of years for Nissan to work out all the bugs on this one though...good luck to those that have already rushed their purchase for the Nissan. You may need it.
You must be a Toyota fanboy for sure. Toyotas are definitely my pick for the most reliable vehicles hands down. But the new Pathfinder design looks better than the new Highlander in my opinion. They need to make the Highlander more mean looking. If they would have put a Tacoma looking grill on the Highlander I would have chosen it for sure with no questions asked. Right now it looks too bubbly and rounded. I am disappointed in the look of the new Highlanders because I wanted one so bad because of the proven reliability and value.
I chose the 2023 Pathfinder 4wd in boulder grey two tone black top with black out kit. Looks and drives great. Highlander v6 not an option for 2023!?? I drove the Highlander fully expecting buy it but was underwhelmed with the 4 cylinder turbo transmission combination. It can take some time for new engine/ transmission combinations to be optimized for the best performance usually through software updates to the programming. That was the case with the Pathfinder in 2022. Much smoother this year. Toyota will probably have it dialed in soon as well. The comfort of the Pathfinder in every seat position was better. Added flexibility with the center console being removable was helpful and the charge ports in the 3rd row. They are both very good cars and would be happy with either car. The final deciding factor was availability and mark up. Nissan was offering 0% financing for 36 months and the dealer went below msrp and gave me more for my trade. Yes, Highlander resale will likely be higher but in this current market, the value is what you pay up front. Only have 3 days in the Platinum Pathfinder but already getting 23 mpg and very much enjoying this car.
PATHFINDER! I recently purchased a Platinum just like the one in review. Mine has crossbars though. I seem to find something new every week on the Pathfinder. Latest was the blind spot warning on outside mirrors. Great on the interstate. And the power folding mirrors. I am 6’ 2” and with the front seat set for me I have plenty of room in captains chair in second row. The all glass top is a must for me. Love that! The look and feel of the Highlander was unimpressive to me. Common looking. Glad I went to Nissan across from Toyota dealer and found the last Platinum they had. Thanks for the review!

Hmmmm. Good video with lots of Information, but I will keep my fully paid of 2012 highlander sport. All I would change in mine is put the 8 speed transmission. Other than that I find mine still has more seating room and functionality.
After checking out a number of SUVs, my choice was the 2022 Pathfinder. I am used to Nissan vehicles. I like the way they design the layout of the dash, controls, and how the computer part works. I also like the inside trims. Last week I ordered the 2022 Pathfinder Platinum white with the black roof lining. I added a number of optional features. I have been driving a 2016 Murano Platinum and traded it in. I did some driving of the Pathfinder. I had a demo Pathfinder for a full day. I was satisfied with the handling and overall performance. The acceleration was very acceptable for me. In checking the performance rating for the Pathfinder it is supposed to be able to do 0 to 60 mph in about 6.9 to 7.2 seconds. This is very acceptable for me. I added a 6 year 140K full service extended warranty. I did the same for the previous vehicles I bought. Nissan engines historically have been excellent. Their weak point was the CVT as like many other vehicles that use CVTs. Now with the automatic transmission I would think the reliability should be much better. I follow the maintenance schedule very closely, and I am very picky in how I look after my vehicles. I am not a hard driver with my vehicles. This is better for the life time reliability of the vehicle.
You can't lose with either one to be honest. Both Nissan and Toyota are very reliable trucks cars and suvs. Honda as well is world renowned reliable vehicles. I'm a proud owner of a 05' Nissan Titan and 13' Acura ILX both are still going strong no mechanical issues whatsoever. That said give me Both of them the Pathfinder and Highlander.
@@carsunlocked I appreciate your commentary as well. Nissan more trucky and off roady. The Toyota more flashy and sporty. You get both of them you'll have the best of both worlds.
Your description in the video doesn't make sense. "Toyota Highlander Limited Platinum"--what is that, exactly? I'd watch the video to try and figure out what you're doing but can already tell from your comments as well as youtube commenters that this is clearly a Nissan group, so I won't bother debating. Highlander is a better vehicle overall but I'm sure either one is a good ride. Cheers.
This is a close one. But have to give it to the toyota here. Interior definitely better on the Nissan. But the motor/transmission definitely better on the Toyota and that is more important to me. Nissan's 3.5 is getting a little long in the tooth at this point. I think they should have dropped their 3.0 turbo to gain more low end torque and HP. The ZF 9 speed is nice but not their best. Its the second generation of that unit but nothing like their ZF 8 speed which is probably the best auto on the planet. Glad the CVT is out but in all honesty, the acceleration might have been better using the CVT. For this kind of money one can buy a Explorer which looks amazing on the last design change. More importantly, Ford offers their 3.5 turbo that offers up to 400 lbs of torque and acceleration will blow both these SUV's off the road. And most importantly, Ford put the primary drive to the rear wheels. I like to see that with more oems. Too many FWD unibodies. They go that route because its cheaper. But its not better.
LET US KNOW IN THE COMMENTS WHICH ONE WOULD YOU BUY!
Nissan ! Just bought mine today!

@@JM-db8ez Pathfinder anytime! Both have been up there in sales, engine and transmission! Looks now in days means a lot!!
@@eddiea.2169 Have fun with that.
I need an all around vehicle with room and comfort, but still has some power and fuel economy.
great input here mike thanks for commenting safe travels
Awesome video man, thanks! Pathfinder for me
hey so happy you enjoyed it thanks for watching!
I have a 2015 Pathfinder n it gives me a bird’s eye view of exactly where I am in a parking spot…cannot imagine the 2022 has dropped that!!
it sure does and its even better now
Just placed an order for the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid, the deciding factor for me was fuel economy. Now I just have to wait 8 months ( give or take) to get it, lol.
hopefully it arrives sooner than later
Pathfinder!
great choice
I would go with the Toyota it won’t break down after my lease is done
great choice
I am a Toyota fan boy but I really like the Nissan Pathfinder, it’s not the original PATHFINDER with 4X4 transfer case but it’s more comfortable for family uses.
Thanks for commenting my friend. Yea the older pathfinders were true off road beast
My current 2014 accelerates just fine turbo trans. It’s the Pathfinder for me time to upgrade ❤️
hey I love it certainly gives me some piece of mind hear all these negative comments regarding the pathfinders transmission
We just ordered our 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. We have 2 Rave 4 and now wanted the 3rd row seating.
wow Toyota all the way for you!
2022 Nissan Pathfinder selling already like hot cakes.. 👍👍👍👍👍
yes they are.
Highlander ❤❤ long time reliability
Own 2005 toyota prius 190000 mile still drive like clock...
wow thats a lot of miles never seen a clock drive before
Pathfinder. Can't wait till they're more readily available.
yes will certainly make my job easier
Nissan Pathfinder for sure!
thanks for commenting
I own a 2010 Toyota Highlander (original owner). It's got 200k miles on it but still drives like new. However I will admit, 2022 Nissan Pathfinder looks so much better
wow a ton of miles on that highlander
One with boxy and muscular look and one with elegant and prestige look. Both are reliable and user friendly cars, and this Toyota V6 engine (seems to be classified as 3.5L V6 as Toyota has not made any V6 engine recently) is a powerful and responsive engine and none to second from other competitors. The resell value of Toyota is much stronger than Nissan. So... Highlander would be the choice.
great input from the Master or Masters
After the third Tie-Yota I’m fucking out.
thanks for watching
Pathfinder seems a much better choice. Nissan makes very comfortable and reliable SUVs.
thanks so much for commenting
I paid about $45,000 for a super-loaded Limited.
thanks for all your input here Bill congrats on the new vehicle
Before I start watching, I’m a Nissan guy and without being biased, I’m going with the Pathfinder for looks alone.
i would agree
Well there's a microcosm for life. Style over substance, I suppose. I'll stick with the Highlander, makes more sense and just a better vehicle.
@@JM-db8ez smart man...👍👌
I bought the Pathfinder and it’s amazing!
hey congrats on your purchase my friend
I would have to go with the one that holds the most value over time. So Toyota is the one I would choose.
i agree the highlander will hold its value
Same Toyota Highlanders they have good volumes and they volume really really good
@Mabrura04 resale value isn’t an opinion it’s a fact … that Toyota will last 2x as long as a Nissan
@Mabrura04 you probably don’t even own a car and are from some shit third world country … but yea tell me about THE and not YOUR Ioniq 5 😂
Again, nice video!
thanks so much for watching!
I will pick the Highlander just for the fact that it will depreciate less than any other brands
great for the long term the highlander is
Great review. I'm buying the Pathfinder because I like the leg room and the overall look IMO is better than the Highlander.
Good choice!
I'm planning on buying a Pathfinder in May.
Pathfinder absolutely wins for me!
great choice
Yes I just got it in a SL trim and I love it with full safety features 👍
Nissan Terra
I love my 2006 Pathy
I got my 2022 Nissan Pathfinder SV for the 8 seats for my family. Hands down best Truck Ive owned. Those who already have the Pathfinder Especially when on cruise control for long distance driving it acts like a Tesla. No video on youtube mentions it .
thats awesome I am glad you are happy with your pathfinder. I did a video about the pro pilot check it out ua-cam.com/video/PoDQCmjsgY0/v-deo.html

I got me a 2022 Nissan Pathfinder SV last month I LOVE IT people tell me it looks like a Range Rover must be the box look and the letters in the back . I traded my Nissan Kicks S. Glad I did. Also the back seat has a bar u can scoop it up for more leg room for the 3rd row !
thanks so much for commenting. so glad you are happy with your SV
You may need it.
thanks for your input only time will tell
Must be a Toyota fanboy. Toyota can do no wrong
Thank you so much for helping me decide which vehicle to the winner is Highlander!!!!!!!
glad i could help you my friend
The captain chairs in the pathfinder is on tracks so they are adjustable forward and back.
makes things easier
I have an 2022 Toyota Highlander XLE in black and I love it
great choice
Excelente video, estaré comprando una de las dos, me encanta la nissan.

Only have 3 days in the Platinum Pathfinder but already getting 23 mpg and very much enjoying this car.
wow thanks so much for commenting congrats on your new vehicle
That’s no brainer of course the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder, because Pathfinder has been to Mars already 🦾
lol too funny
Awesome thanks for the insight
Sounds like you had a bad salesman that didn't go over the car.
@@nonyabusiness3605 I purchased my Pathfinder at Palm Springs Nissan. A bad salesman??? The entire dealership is a mess. Service dept can barely figure out what oil to use or what to lie to you about using. I love the SUV, 5 months now and the only issues are trying to figure out how options work, but they work! I have to drive to Universal City Nissan in LA( 2 hour drive)to get an oil change. Good thing I love this SUV🤦🏻♂️

yes i just think it has a more luxury look in comparison to the pathfinder
the difference you can notice few years later on autotrader resale value will explain all the differences . i bought rav4 hybrid in may 2021 in october changed my mind to hybrid highlander due to 7 seats otherwise loved the rav4 hybrid xle so i went back to dealership i was amazed when they offer me same price buying back what i have bought for 39000 cdn after even driving 20k on it now tell me isn't this the difference i never bought toyota in my life before 45 today but from now on only toyota highbrids

great choice
This is better for the life time reliability of the vehicle.
thanks for comment jerry and congrats on the new vehicle. Hopefully it arrives soon
Have you had any cvt problems with your murano?
You can't lose with either one to be honest. Both Nissan and Toyota are very reliable trucks cars and suvs. Honda as well is world renowned reliable vehicles. I'm a proud owner of a 05' Nissan Titan and 13' Acura ILX both are still going strong no mechanical issues whatsoever. That said give me Both of them the Pathfinder and Highlander.

Cheers.
ok J M thanks for watching
But its not better.
thanks for your info HiPlains1
Explorer?you better off getting a telluride,palisades,gv70,mdx are Kia carnival!
