    This is a Motormouth couple car comparison of the all-new 2022 Nissan Pathfinder and the Kia Telluride SUV. Both of these SUVs are three-row mid-size utilities with room for 7 or 8-passengers.The Kia Telluride offers more power than the Nissan Pathfinder, it has a 3.8L V6 engine with an 8 speed automatic transmission producing 291 horsepower and 262 lb-feet of torque. In Canada the Telluride comes with standard AWD with drive and terrain modes. In the US, FWD and AWD models are offered. The Pathfinder carries over the 3.5L V6 engine from the previous model, but now has a 9 speed automatic transmission, no longer a CVT. It has 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque. There’s a new 4WD system on the Pathfinder with 7 terrain settings. In Canada 4WD is standard. In the US, both 2WD and 4WD models are offered. The Telluride has a rugged and boxy exterior style with chrome accents throughout. The Nightsky trim we tested comes with a black grille and black accents including a black roof rail and 20” black alloy wheels. For 2022, there are subtle changes, the Telluride gets the new Kia logo and the front grille has a gloss black insert with satin chrome surround. There are 4 trims to choose from, all AWD in Canada. In the US, FWD is standard with optional AWD for $2,000 USD and on the top trim $1,900 USD. The base model comes standard with 18” wheels, a temporary spare tire, LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and LED fog lights, a sunroof and smart power lift-gate plus plenty of standard safety features including, blind spot monitoring and ,rear cross traffic alert. All trims but the base model come standard with 20” wheels. One up from the base model gets a dual panel sunroof and the top two trims get LED taillights. The Telluride has a clean, well, organized and stylish interior. It comes standard with an impressive amount of features like a 10.25” touchscreen, a 3.5” instrument cluster, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, 8-passenger seating, synthetic leather seats, heated front seats, leather wrapped heated steering wheel and interior wood grain trim. The Telluride also comes standard with a one touch slide and fold 2nd row. One up from the base model is where you’ll find ventilated front seats, driver seat memory, a power passenger seat, Harman Kardon stereo system and a 7” instrument cluster. The top two trims come standard with heated and air-cooled second row seats, 7-passenger seating, leather seats and a head-up display. The captain’s chairs are standard on the top two trims. The Pathfinder interior is all, new. Thanks to the additional interior volume, this SUV offers easier cargo and family loading with wider rear doors and room for up to 8-passengers which is new for the Pathfinder. Nissan increased the hip room in the 3rd row by almost 5 inches to increase the seating capacity from 2 to 3 seats. Captain’s chairs are now available for the first time and are standard on the top trim, all other trims get a bench seat. The Pathfinder has a removable centre console on the top trim, no tools are needed and allows items up to 7 inches wide to pass through the captain’s chairs. There is also easier entry and exit from the 3rd row with one touch seating which pitches the seat forward to provide a wide opening for the driver or passenger side even with a car seat attached. Two up from the base model comes standard with the bigger 9” touchscreen, ProPilot with Navigation, driver seat memory, leather appointed seats, heated second row seats, gun metallic brushed trim instead of piano black trim and wireless Apple Carplay.The top trim will get you some extra features like a 12.3” digital driver display, ambient lighting, quilted leather appointed seats, ventilated front seats, a bronze metallic brushed interior, head-up display, wireless charger and a 13-speaker Bose sound system.

      I bought the 2022 pathfinder after taking back my deposit with kia. It's just my wife and I we love the better gas mileage a recent 3 hour trip with ac and music on blast got 29.4MPG. Kia was not worth the price increase for all the 2nd and 3rd row when we will only use it once or twice a a year.

    Just bought the new Nissan pathfinder Platinum. I test drove the Kia telluride... but here in Florida Kia is charging $18,000 over MSRP because they say that they have the top SUV. Making it approximately $68,000 - $72,000 for the top trim, I say Kia can keep their Telluride. This is my 3rd pathfinder and I LOVE IT!

      When I was looking at the Toyota sienna and the Kia carnival in Wilmington North Carolina, the Carnaval Dealer wanted six and $10,000 above MSRP for the Kia carnival van. I believe they were asking almost 15,000 over MSRP for the Telluride. I think it’s horrible and completely unjustified.

    Nissan fights back! And finally. When you talk Telluride and Pathfinder in the same subject line, it is going to be good. I like the Pathfinder and it is so much better than the previous one. Nissan is amping up its charge for stardom. They have too. Kia since 2013 has been on fire. They got the right people, and much more. Nissan needs to build cars we can get excited about again. As a kid the 510, the Z car, Lil Hustler pick up were the unsung heroes. Even the Patrol we couldn't get here in the USA. They could and did engineer and make excellence. I would love to go back to the future with Nissan. Really! The Pathfinder and some other products are making me think is on their way. Just inject more of the fun in the new Z and others with the 510 DNA. The car people called the poor man's BMW 2002. Praise indeed. For now the Telluride edges out the Pathfinder for proven status. It has been here a while. If the Pathfinder can get to the heart of America, and do well, that can change. Time and the people and sales will tell.

    To paraphrase a comment attributed to Mark Twain about himself, "The reports of (Nissan's) death have been greatly exaggerated." And one of the advantages of being late to a party is that you get a chance to see what everyone else is wearing. It's clear that Nissan benchmarked the Telluride in the design and features of the new Pathfinder. It may not be the earthshaking vehicle that the Telluride has been but it's clearly a credible contestant and superior to a number of other rivals.
    Andrea, the reason the Pathfinder's hood is so long is that it's an approach used by auto designers, especially those who design sports cars, for nearly a century. to suggest potency and performance even though it sacrifices interior space. If you wonder why, check with Sigmund Freud.

    Pathfinder coz of higher headroom in the third row. I am 5.10 and my head touches the top in the 3rd row of Telluride; so uncomfortable. I don’t know why headroom is always ignored in almost all auto reviews.
    Thanks for the great work!

    • @samayganhar
      @samayganhar 2 роки тому

      @Mr G Well if third row is for kids only, then leg room does not matter as much as head room. Kids can fit even in a compact 3 row. Why spend extra on a mid-sized 3 row!!

    • @samayganhar
      @samayganhar 2 роки тому +1

      @Mr G My point is for some 5.10-5.11 pathfinder provides adequate leg room, although less that Telluride. However, much better headroom compared than Telluride. So, for me it’s more practical choice than Telluride; adequate leg room and adequate headroom, compared to great leg room and cramped headroom in Telluride. I would prefer a bit less legroom over my head touching the top.

    • @samayganhar

    Great comparison. Shopping for 3 row suv to replace my 2014 Acura MDX. Looked at the Acura and I can't get over the clumsy infotainment system and shifter, although it does drive nice and provides more of a luxury feel. Also, looked at the Grand Cherokee L which has great styling and good towing ability. Seems like the Pathfinder fits in between the Telluride and Grand Cherokee L with respect to towing and being a little more rugged. The only thing I don't like with the Grand Cherokee L is the price but it kind of provides a little bit more capability and the interior feels a little more high end. Will you be reviewing the Grand Cherokee L soon, as it would be good to see how it stacks up against these?

      Exactly in the same boat, test drove Telluride (overall liked it) and waiting to test GCL Overland trim. Never owned a Jeep product so a bit hesitant with regard to reliability. For the money Jeep could have upped the warranty. I'm drawn to the more capable, rugged look of the Jeep especially in higher trims with the air ride suspension but I also like the look of the Telluride. I think the Telluride's V6 might pull it's weight around better than the (heavier)Jeep's V6. The Jeep's powerful 5.7L V8 would be enticing but you kina get killed on fuel economy (17mpg combined..yikes!). A V6 Turbo would have been about right for the longer and heavier Jeep. The Grand Cherokee L's covers a lot of price points with six trims but you still have to add pricey packages to get all the goodies. You're 10-15 grand over a Telluride SX-P to get a loaded Jeep Grand Cherokee L Overland or Summit. The Jeep is about 8 inches longer but has less passenger volume. The longer hood maybe to accommodate the Hemi V8. A comparison between them would answer a lot of questions like driving dynamics, seat comfort, cargo and passenger space ,power on the highway, maneuverability, infotainment responsiveness, features and layout, value for money etc. etc. Hopefully Zach and Andrea get a chance to review Jeep's new 3 row SUV ;-)

Compare to the 22 version, the 23pathfinder got smoother start, but auto off is such a nightmare, have to turn off everytime is kind of boring. 2things i think pathfinder win telluride, first is the new IIHS side impact test resaults, you can see the second row side airbag help to protect 2nd row passanger. second thing is pathfinder have some robber protecter under the door frame, which place i got a lot of snow deposit on my CRV. 2 good things i think telluride have and pathfinder should improve are the side view camera when you flash turn signal, and the larger cargo lenth after 3rd row up.just a inch longer comon! i like the looks of pathfinder, maybe because im getting old.

    Both of these vehicles offer so many features and accouterments that it makes it a tough choice. The Telluride is a better designed vehicle in my opinion. I prefer the exterior styling more on the Telluride compared to the new Pathfinder. The Pathfinder has a nicer instrumentation cluster and I also like the dashboard layout more than the Telluride. I like the direction Nissan is going. While everyone applaud Pathfinder going from CVT into ZF 9 AT. This ZF 9AT has iffy quality problems, from what we have witnessed in both FCA and Honda/Acura. The jerking problem has been well documented of this transmission. I hope ZF has addressed the quality issue with Pathfinder's execution. Its also the reason why Honda Passport is a slow seller, other than the HondaLink infotainment class action in the States.
    Between these 2, I would take Telluride is a heartbeat. But will definitely take Pathfinder into consideration, which is predecessor will never be.

    Zach is definitely leaning Telluride! It's better looking, more refined, more spacious, more powerful, better tuned transmission, longer warranty, a better overall package and likely better resale value. The Pathfinder has the nice digital cockpit in higher trims, more towing capability and better overall color choices inside and out especially with the two tone black roof option with many colors. Telluride still leads the way but given it's huge popularity in the U.S. in particular you may not got a good deal especially now with the "chip shortage crisis" and the back log of customers orders particularly for the EX and SX trims. Love to see the Telluride compared to the new Jeep Grand Cherokee L at similar pricing. Maybe The Telluride SX-P vs the GCL Limited/Overland! Great comparison guys!

Also most models come standard with the towing hitch which is handy for a proper bikerack. I strongly disagree! The Infiniti QX60 has more technology/features (many which aren't available for the Kia Telluride), along with a more upscale interior with better material quality throughout.
      Furthermore, vehicle "demand" based on popularity doesn't always equate to overall sales which is why the Telluride is currently 12th place in the midsized SUV class despite it's newfound hype.

Huge recalls and press on these two issues everywhere. I think these have to factor into the equation when comparing vehicles. I think Nissan has a far better reputation when it comes to reliability than either of the two Korean brands. If I had to choose between the Pathfinder or Telluride, I would choose the Pathfinder. I prefer a vehicle that isn't going to kill me when I accelerate.

    The main driving reason for economy size small cars is the cost of fuel to operate. EVs will not have that issue and motor vehicles will become human sized again. Remember the land yachts of the 60s and 70s.

    • @Bartonovich52
      @Bartonovich52 2 роки тому

      Yeah. I remember.
      And the king of them all.. a 1975 Lincoln Mk V… has less front and rear head and legroom and less cargo space than my 2018 Honda Civic hatchback. Also slower top speed and acceleration. And fewer creature comforts.
      Don’t believe me… go look up the brochures and see for your self.
      When you have an engine literally five times as large (7.5L vs 1.5L) mounted longitudinally with a huge transmission tunnel, drive shaft hump, live rear axle, and a fuel tank to feed that massive engine… there isn’t a lot of room for people. They also made those land yachts longer than they had to be, which is why they downsized so easily in the late 70s. There was a lot of empty space in the fins and beaks that were ahead of the fan and radiator and behind the trunk.

    Telluride and Palisade pricing is extremely misleading and reviewers dont say this. US dealers add a Markup of $5k to $8k or 8 months waiting period in lieu of and the Korean twins are not a good bargain anymore. The price is now in luxury 3 row SUV range and they have to be compared against 2022 Aviator, MDX and QX60. Those waiting 8+ months for a Telluride probably dont need it and those paying a premium are buying into the hype.

    I am surprised by the reliability numbers for the Pathfinder. I don't know if it got better over the years but we purchased the Pathfinder when it was redesigned in 2013 and started to have problems in the 4th year with the air intake, A/C problems (twice), driver window that won't come up, driver inside door handle breaking (couldn't open the door from inside) then transmission issues. My Nissan dealer is trying to pull me into another Pathfinder... Good luck with that. We are looking for either the Palisade or the Telluride. I have mixed feelings about the Atlas. The Traverse was another 3 row contender but it feels cheap and overpriced (even pre-pandemic number). The 3rd row in other mainstream manufacturers is a joke (Ford, Mazda, Honda, Toyota, Subaru).
