  • TurboDirect S.A release the brand new Dual ball bearing GTX3071R Gen2 IS38 capable of 700HP on the EA888 MQB platform engines. The end housings have upgraded AR's and flow more air than the stock housing versions. This is a true 700HP capable turbocharger with stainless steel investment cast turbine housing and compressor housing - Genuine GTX3071R Gen2 CHRA counter rotation CHRA and muffler delete.     Dear Chris!,
    First of all, I have to say - you have nice and very useful UA-cam channel, I have never seen so full of turbo knowledge channel across whole UA-cam. Also, I admire your personal knowledge, charisma and willingness to share information!
    I have Skoda Superb 2017y, AWD, 2.0 tsi built engine (83mm*92.8*4 = 2008), stock engine used to have 280HP, but now it has something around 510-530HP on pump gas (100 ron) with hybrid IS38ETR Revo turbo (other name is Turbo Technics v4).
    It's almost impossible (at least I can't) to find compressor map of this turbo, but I can state some useful facts from my own experience - 1) it has positive spool from 1800-2000RPM on my engine; 2) it has maximum boost (2 bar or 29 psi from 3300-3400RPM); 3) According to logs my engine has air consumption maximum 1450kg/hr (53-54 lbs/min) on 7000-7200 RPM with this turbo.
    So, after this turbo blew up my stock engine, I rebuilt engine, I strengthened stock transmission, now it is ready for 800Nm approximately and now I would like to have 600HP+ or 500WHP+ better on a pump gas (I dislike w/m, but if it’s necessary I can deal with it). And one more thing - early spool is pretty important for me, this is almost usual road car, but still - I understand big turbo requirements.
    For last 2 months I’m trying to find new turbo for my goals, I’ve considered:
    - CTS BOSS 700 kit www.ctsturbo.com/product/cts-boss-turbo-kit-mqb-mk7-gti-golf-r-8v-s3-8v-a3/ twinscroll kit with garret 3076r gen2, to be honest I dislike this kit a bit, think this turbo is too big, may be i'm wrong;
    - 'handmade' twinscroll hybrid on the base of IS38 with garret g25-660, g30-660 or g30-770 core or compressor;
    - wide range of different hybrid's for this engine, such as:
    -TTE555,
    - Turbo Technics V5,
    - LM6xx, LM575 kolbenkraft-tuning.com/product/lm6xx-gen3-turbo-upgrade-gen-3-vw-golf-7r-mk7-mk7-5-7-r-gti-is38-upgrade-turbocharger-hybrid-lm600-v3-turbolader-upgradelader/?v=6cc98ba2045f
    - many-many others.
    Accidentally, I’ve found your video about your new IS38 700HP based of garret g3071r gen2. First of all - I’m very impressed with your turbo! But I have some questions:
    - If it’s based on garret 3071r gen2 how it can achieve 700HP? G3071r doesn’t produce enough air for it. I think you mean using E85 with WMI, yes?
    - Dou think it possible for this hybrid to achieve ~600HP on pump gas?
    - What is your price for it?
    - Can you send it in Russia?

    On a side note, is Garrett ever going to release a divided internal gate housing for the G30's????

      Thanks buddy - Garrett have what we call a pignose housing for the GTX3584RS which is a vband inlet but divided -- its twin scroll -- there are housings that have a T4 inlet twin scroll flange, that fits the GT/X30R turbos - this will also work with very slight mods. problem solved -- we will be re-releasing our newest stainless steel turbine housing range with vband inlet and outlet in the next two months aswell - designed for GT/X28, 30 and 35R models. Watch this space -

      These rotating assemblies are capable of making 550WHP + (fuel system upgrades will be required aswell as clutches on the DQ250) with no problem at all.

    Would you recommend this turbo for a DD. If so when would it be back in stock? How would I be able to get a proper tune with this turbo on my S3 in the states also, and would my integrated engineering TCU tune work with a 3rd party ECU tune for this turbo. Thanks

      We have PLENTY experience with the MK6 setups, especially with the turbos and ECU (MED17) units, we can provide anything from mild to wild - we have a number of cars running from G25-660 making 400+WKW and another Running the BorgEFR7670 and G30-900 making well over 600WH - we can supply complete builds together with G-force customs from the ground up including tuning, multimaps etc.

      thank you for the comments. If the powerplant is the same as the Golf7R or Golf7.5R then this setup will work - if the engine is inline, the turbo will not work due to the differences on the compressor side of the turbo. For pricing please send an email to info@turbodirect.co.za.

    How does the spool up for everyday driving compare to a stock/Hybrid/EFR7163 turbo?

      Kiewiet they dont, you comparing three totally different turbochargers with totally different flow capbilities and three different rotating assemblies. The Stock turbo will outspool all three - as its the smallest and uses the stock turbine and compressor housings. The Hybrid (Which one are you referring to? - there are many guises that different companies sell) will be laggier, but the rotating assembly is much larger, hence much higher HP output, and depending on which Hybrid you referring to, most of them use the stock original IHI turbine and compressor housing, and have either the turbine and/or compressor wheels machined into the housings. Our IS38600 Thick Shaft does NOT use the stock AR turbine or compressor housing, yet uses a larger rotating assembly, and makes more power then the above hybrid example, but is slightly laggier due to the upgraded AR's in the end housings. The EFR7163 utilises a Gamma TI (Titanium Aluminide) turbine wheel head, which weighs 30-40% less than Inconel 713LC - making this turbo (even though its physical diameter on the turbine is as large as the hybrids) spool MUCH faster than the hybrid setups in Journal bearing format. Our IS38700 which also utilises the larger AR turbine and compressor housings but installs with the Genuine Garrett GTX3071R Gen2 rotating assembly, will spool later than the stock turbo for obvious reasons, but make 700HP

      Ok so let me rephrase. At what rpm can you expect to reach full boost? Obvious a dyno graph comparison will answer alot of the questions one might have.

      @@kiewietduplessis6463 What tune? What ignition advance? What AFR? What Intake? What Boost? What DP?, WMI? What Fuel? Fuel pump upgrades? Injectors upgrade? -- in short how long is a piece of string?
      This is not a facetious answer at all, its impossible to predict the boost response of ANY build without physically testing it on a dyno its that simple. A guideline can be provided but it all depends on all the above and more - im afraid there is no straight answer, every car will be different.
      Is the Hybrid streetable? - well it depends on how much HP you want. If you only want to see 380WHP - then the "hybrid" you need is a simple compressor wheel upgrade.
      If you want 450WHP youll need a proper built hybrid BUT you can get away with this inside OEM (small AR) housings, this spools better than a full hybrid with larger AR housings
      If you want 500+ HP - then you going to have lag - with power comes lag - it is what it is im afraid.

      There will always be a sacrafice between spool up makin HP's. Question is what is your goal? Fast street car or full on racecar? Getting the right ballance between lag and making power is key. Guess we will just have to wait for dyno graph.

      What updated information? The turbo is what it is - no updates coming, this is a product released in the market. There is an EFR version of this bolt on coming soon - which will incorporate the EFR7163 and/or EFR7670 as the options for this engine.

      @@rcnacura We have done alot of testing with this turbo especially abraod with some customers. The top MQB tuning company in Germany called GT Innovation has the most data on the Golf7R with the IS38-700 on. His name is Thanos Farmakis - aside form the tuning he does he has the most data available. Id suggest you contact him directly for information and his personal opinion and experience.

      Sure plenty of these in the internaitonal market - depending on the tuner, different HP figures will result. Contact Thanos from GT Innovation in Germany, he has extensive tuning on this turbo - he has alot of data.

      @@FLeXJun Thats where we use the Swirl adapter - the IS38 comp housing we have designed even with the larger AR isnt enough to support the flow from the larger GTX3076R gen2 Compressor

      Kiewiet no idea what CTS uses in their rotating assemblies. I cannot comment on another companies products, but what i can tell you is that noone can compete with price against our product range apples with apples, we have been designing and manufacturing turbine housings since 2010, our first exhibition with our TurboDirect S.A stainless steel turbine housing products was at SEMA in 2012 - we design components, Billet compressor wheels and housings for international clients which we met at SEMA 8 years ago. I suggest you do comparative homework and make your decision from there.

      I am sure that it will all come down to price. Both the BOSS600 and Turbo Technique IS38 V5 Hybrid (previously discussed) is rated at 600Hp but very expensive. It would be interresting to see what your price will be.

      @@kiewietduplessis6463 Our price for the IS38600 is not a simple hybrid turbo with the stock shaft diameter and bearing system - these are unreliable assemblies discussed at length in the other videos on my channel - feel free to check them out.
      Our hybrid (journal bearing) is NOTHING like the thins (unreliable) shaft hybrids on the market today, our setup will handle 2.0bar boost all day long without suffering a thrust failure. As for Price this can change without notice, but as at today the price is R24800.00 ex vat in South African Rands - this i doubt you will find a product that comes close in price or design and most cetainly not reliability when using the stock shaft and bearing system dimensions.

      @@idtakae86 Yes it does - we don't supply the water in and out lines just yet, but will be making these up swell and supplying them as a complete bolt on kit so nothing has to be purchased or fabricated afterwards - we will be releasing our 70mm thick intercooler (also bolt on) with aluminium charge pipes (will have a thermal coating on it) which include 3 WMI ports ended in for those who want to use it, swell as the muffler delete nd air intake upgrade pipe.
      We will supply software with this aswell - watch this space for more on the software coming down the line this week some time.
