This video has completely changed my relationship with my dog. I run through these routines in several spots along our regular walking round and her focus on me in general is now unreal. This is just after about three weeks f doing this everyday when out. Seriously, this is the first video I will recommend to every new dog owner. Again, stunning video. I cannot thank you enough for this video.
Does your dog still focus on you after this process if you don't have treats? My puppy is like wtf if I don't have treats on me when she engages and I worry that this will make our relationship treat dependent. Curious your experience since you wrote this 4 yrs ago
Working as a team with one's husband, wife or partner IS CRITICAL to train dogs! My husband and I watch these videos at least 5X each. IT IS MAKING SUCH A HUMONGOUS DIFFERENCE AND YES I AM YELLING and jumping around! BOTH watch and ask questions together. If the mom and dad aren't together as a team, anyone under their tutelage is going to be completely baffled. Including our children children. Robert, this is turning out to be so incredibly COOL that hubby and I are both LEARNING new stuff and synthesizing consistent verbiage, tactics...and dang, that video on "come" is the bee's knees for dog training. Such an incredible basic training...system. Thank you so very very much!
The reward-in-the-mouth is such an eye-opener!! Such a genius tactic!! (But kinda gross. XD) Ahhhh, I'm having an epiphany! So excited about this new discovery!! Aaaahhhhhh!!! 20+ years of learning about dog training, thinking I've taught myself just about everything, and then BANG! New revelation! You have no idea just how excited I am right now! (Because I refuse to type in all-Caps) AAAAAHHHH!!! (runs around the house flailing my arms) *Edit:* You know something you didn't mention what's great about this cheese-in-mouth tactic? It prevents you from leaning over and intimidating/distracting small dogs. If you've ever trained a small dog, you know how it's a pain in the butt to have to lean over to give it a treat or a pat.
The bit about not crushing all that love and enthusiasm is sooooo true. Thanks for sharing brother, four legged fury companions all over the world send licks of gratitude!
Man, you have totally changed the way I now think about training my puppy. So logical and single-minded for the dog. Makes it easier and faster for both of us. His mistakes decrease as my teaching mistakes do. Love my 8 mo. old pup.
Thanks Robert, Gigi, my yellow lab is 6 months old. I needed to see this video to get re-inspired. U made me realize I just need to do 10 minute training sessions every day.
I purchased 2 giant bags of string cheese this morning! Used this method on my 7 month old Cattledog mix shelter dog I've had for 3 weeks. OMG! Game Changer!! Thank you so much!! Gonna be fun and exhausting training him. Excited to see all of your videos.
Great video as usual! I think this is one time the word ‘holistic’ can truly be used. When dog owners have a problem with their recall, they shouldn’t just practice the recall, but carry out this type of training & shaping every day and they will see their recall gradually improving. You show holistic training at its best! Hi from Wimbledon, UK.
I have a 7 month old 100 pound very stubborn and excitable Newfie.. I thought I was doing things right, but if doesn't want to move or do something, he won't. I am going to start over!
I just want to let you know this is the best training video on puppies I’ve seen yet. I will be using it on our Jack Russell and GSD. Can’t THANK YOU enough for what you train and how you train both dogs and owners.
Your videos are always at another level of thoughtfulness - teach the puppy to learn - incredible. You've really thought through a lot of faulty assumptions and dead ends in the dog training world it, seems.
It's not just thumps up👍👍but enormous💕 hugs to you and puppy. It's fun watching you and having INSTANT results. I'm very late in educating my Newfie. At 2 and a half months she had 2 operations on both knees. Her "lampshade" collar on her for 2 months was driving her wild in addition both legs were bandaged. Only at 6 months I was allowed to take her to her baby school and have individual lessons for her. I have been battling with her as she doesn't wanna obey in school. At home she's obedient. She Knows so many tricks and colors. I thank you for giving me HEALING POWER to educate my Newfie. All other doggies in her school are small breeds, kinda obedient but mine is a TSUNAMI cannot control her on a leash. She gets bitten by these "hot dogs" but says nothing. That's a good point for me. Educating her seems endless and I was almost giving up in tears. With the help of your videos I should be able to DISCARD NEGATIVE THOUGHTS and make my dog concentrate on me. DID AN ANGEL SEND YOU TO ME? Thanks for sharing and caring. Hugs. 😘💕💕💕👍👍👍🐾🐾
Love this video. I've been too focused on trying to rush things and perfect them too soon that it has crushed both my dog's motivation and mine. The times I try out moves and not worrg about being specific, my dog has a lot more focus. I have to remember to keep it fun and not be so robotic in my thinking and movements.
I had no idea how much I needed this video. 1) I appreciate being walked through how to make training fun. I'm technical-minded, so I'm certain I have a tendancy to make training a chore for my pup. 2) What a great way to simultaneously get the dog to engage with you and gain understanding and familiarity with being lured. Already, I'm finding the training I've utilized thus far has locked my 11-wk-old into the sit so that I have a bit of trouble getting her to release. Also, she hasn't really been "getting" the lure, so the first time I tried this, she didn't know what to do... as she just kind-of watched the cheese go away from her, though she was a bit tired as well. The second time, however, she started chasing it a little more and almost got close to a "down," which I'm having trouble teaching her without the use of her bed. Thanks for the work you do, Robert!
I wish someone had taught me about using food from my mouth when I first got my rescue dog. Since I used it and also started letting the dog just try to show me behaviours she is soo much more eager to focus and train. The first trainer I went to was really helpful but I know now that things would have moved faster and been more accurate now if I'd run through this kind of interaction
I use very similar techniques but do not use treats. The way i do it is to make myself more interesting than anything else and heaps of praise.Training made into games the dog loves is the way forward
This is by far the best puppy training video by far on youtube. And there were certain part in the video that just left me thinking why you would something and after I thought about it it all made perfect sense. And the part where you tell to stop training while their happy and still want to train is amazing advice! I'm gonna use this video so much after I get my malinois pup. Thanks for everthing you do Robert!
I'm so grateful I found you Robert, your approach blows both the forceful and positive reinforcement tactics out of the water with genuine care, common sense, and the right balance of both our natures
Absolutely amazing! Your technique is so logical and intimate... you've gotta have the happiest dogs! Thanks for your hard work and dedication to your dogs and us!
I'm new to your channel- just watched a couple videos. I learned more about training in 15 minutes than in decades of "training dogs". This week I acquired a 4 year-old mini schnauzer who's potty trained, that's it! But she's bright and we started with "sit" today. We did great and had fun! I've subscribed, thank you.
Robert, I think so many people don't get the short and fun bit . We must be fun. I don't use putting the food in mouth method ( not with raw food : ) Even now I keep 2 of Zed's training sessions short but at 2 years old she does get a third split session of work first then about 40% of playing fetch, tug etc. Priceless advise here. Many people watch Leerburg . Ellis etc but then have very high expectations from very young pups. Thank you so much : ) Great stuff indeed. Yes as we age it is exhausting but so worth it.
Great training methods I really like how you make it fun and you're not yanking on a leash the whole time the dog looks like it is enjoying it and having fun and learning all at the same time!👍🏼
Beautiful...thanks so much. I have a super reactive fearful adoptee. She is beautiful and smart but had 7 years maybe of bad choices and negative reinforcement. I hope to find more teachings from your vault that will help us get back on walks. Cheers.
Great video. I really liked how you seamlessly got your puppy to do several 'commands' in a flowing sequence. Liked the face focus you were able to get.
Hi Robert! This is SO helpful for me and my 4 month old Dutchie! I also watched your platform video which I'll be adding to my "play time" with him. I really like your energy and style of training, for me it resonates and my puppy seems to respond so well to the happy, up energy. THANK YOU! Will be watching more as I bring him along.
Will start this today, love your methods and makes it easy on us owners as well. My 6 month old American Bully learns quick so this will be easier and fun for the both of us.
I just wanna thank you a lot, started 4 days ago each day and i can already see big improvements in our relationship, he is a lot more focused and happy, thanks!!
I really loved the way you give training to puppies... I have a pitbull puppy, he is one and half months old and he is smart and learn command very well
Love your way of training! I'm working with 4 puppies 3 months old, that I rescued. I'm trying to keep it fun. They respond so much better with positive reinforcement, than negative.I spend about 10minutes a day with each one on a long leash .Going to try the cheese in my mouth!Thank you!
I am looking forword to training this to my 3 month old dog! We will have a blast. i will keep it positive amd give him the treat when he does the right thing. videos like this will make you and the dogs freindship way better and will help for good reactions! Thank you for the video
i really enjoy your training sessions with "Duanemator", very motivating. hope to see a lot of more from you two :) Greetings from Berlin/Germany, Christian
Your videos are so helpful. Your approach is really working well for me with our new 18 month old rescue dog, I'm so glad I found your channel. Great stuff Robert, thank you.
So glad I found you and your training videos. I have just adopted a rescue dog here in Australia. He's 1 year old, very large and without much training. Looking forward to learning your methods with him....now which video to watch and follow first?

Too early to concern yourself with this. Food is motivating him. That works! Use what works. Why take the food away when its helping him learn.
Am I the only one that was amazed he kept producing cheese out of his mouth like a pez dispenser!? Explain that
😆
He says 'it seems gross'. No it is gross!
KEKW
and yet speaks clearly 🤣
@@NormanGraafsmahow is it gross? He’s using string cheese in his mouth.
Extremely knowledgeable trainer
I use carrots my dog is on a diet🐾🥕
wow a video actually showing the training session unedited
So that is how you get them to look in your eyes not the hand! Excellent, I'm still learning with my 14 year old pitbull.

"Crazy handsome too!"... Oh my gosh, this was so funny. Yes, I love the happy and fun energy too!
Setting dog 🐕 up for responsibility training for when dog is mature enough to handle the Jobs on healing, stay, down, ect. Excellent!
Love puppy's that are well behaved
Thanks Robert, Gigi, my yellow lab is 6 months old. I needed to see this video to get re-inspired. U made me realize I just need to do 10 minute training sessions every day.

It's not one single factor, best I can do is that it is down to earth, useful info, and relatable.
I’m more impressed that you were able to keep yourself from swallowing the cheese...
I did steal some.
Or able to talk with it in your mouth and us understand you lol@@RobertCabralDogs

Just stumbled on your videos. I'm going to retrain myself and my dog using your techniques. Love your energy and humor 🐕💕
thank you. welcome to the family!
Wow!! This is amazing! I think you are my favorite dog trainer on youtube!
Super impressed!!!!!

I have watched this technique on lots of other videos, but this one I really got! Thanks. You are a master!
This video totally engages my gag reflex.
This is the best website for training a puppy in my opinion. Thanks, Robert.

Robert, great job! You are one of the best trainers I ever seen. Thank you for sharing these training videos.
Great video. I get my Australian Shepherd pup in two weeks. Can't wait!
So how is your Australian Shepherd now?
How was it?
I have been going about training as command only, I am glad I watched this one to know it way more than just commands.
Wow this beats the heck out of traditionsl.puppy classes which bored the crap out of both of us.
That has worked amazing with my 5 month Malanoi thankyou

Thank you
Will start this today, love your methods and makes it easy on us owners as well. My 6 month old American Bully learns quick so this will be easier and fun for the both of us.
Great Pez dispenser idea for freeing up hands. Might not be so much fun doing it with raw tripe :0
You deserve SO many more subscribers. Thank you!
Loved this! ❤

So glad I found you and your training videos. I have just adopted a rescue dog here in Australia. He's 1 year old, very large and without much training. Looking forward to learning your methods with him....now which video to watch and follow first?
Awesome video! Love this!
The train and game falls mainly on the Duane.
Great video.
What are your thoughts / tips on training a 9 week old gsd puppy?
It's good I got used to dog food as a child... Cuz holding it in my mouth now is gonna be a childhood rerun. 😂😉
Good solid advice.
a true master
Brilliant.
Love this lesson. Thank you so much for sharing. Beautiful yard. I feel for those around there that have to breath that smog though. :(
Definitely gonna do this with my Akita Inu when I pick her up in October!!
