@@KellyMay-b9b Same here, but for Celiac Disease. My Gastro really went the extra mile too. Then they changed my PCP and they tried to claim all the other Doctors were wrong. I asked him what he would do if I got really sick again, and he said "nothing". Fortunately my Gastro set him straight about how I was diagnosed.
i think we've been glorifying being overworked/exploited in the US for way too long now. and a particularly egregious example would def be the medical field. appreciate you sharing and godspeed!
We glorify CEO overlords and think one day we'll have that slice of the pie. Ppl like Elon Musk who claim to work unrealistic hours but somehow have time to impregnate multiple women, show up at gala events and travel the world.

Loved the discussion! Gaslighting in medicine is such an important topic that needs to discussed so that everyone can understand what doctors go through on a day to day basis. It brought me so much joy seeing you having time off to do all those fun things. You are amazing doc! Keep going! : )
I also watch Dr. Rachel Southard who is a 2nd year OB/GYN resident and she's working 80 hours a week and she's exhausted all the time. Her mental health has suffered but she still perseveres in spite of it all because she's driven and loves her chosen field. Having said that why are Doctors required to work so many long hours not to mention the medical mistakes that could and do happen as a result of being completely wiped out. It doesn't make any sense to me.
I mean I think there was some lobbying done at some point when there were too many doctors and such…you can do the research. I have to wonder though… I imagine there is a lot of stuff they want residents to see and do before they are set off on their own. I guess they could double the length of residency so they still do the same amount of training but in more time but I’m going to guess the residents aren’t going to want to do that. Wouldn’t the same thing need to happen if they double the number of residents? I do think we need more doctors but I am curious how it would affect their training. I guess I would just avoid new doctors and let them learn and practice on others
I’m a physician associate, I graduated 8 years ago but I still remember my hospital rotations. I had one rotation where I was working 105 hours a week shifts. I was EXHAUSTED. I had no time for anything outside of the hospital. They changed the rule the next year to cut hours and reduce the amount of hours worked within a week. Thank goodness things are moving in the right direction because this isn’t right.

Another point. I find it fascinating how being kind, generous, and focusing on good character and caring for patients comes across as shocking to medical students I train. It remains ironic that seeing those qualities is considered wonderful. It should be the norm. After practicing for my second year, I totally get why students say that.
Thanks for posting this!! It’s hard to see so many leaving medicine while so many of us are trying to get in! Change definitely needs to happen!! Keep going!!👏🏽

Well said Shaun!!! I don’t know how Drs get through all the training leading up to practicing medicine. It takes a special person to choose this life.. yes you are special. The medical world needs more Drs like you. Attitude is everything…..❤
Someone told me that there was a strike by residents in Buffalo, New York. Great for sharing the news about the strikes by University Buffalo (UB) residents at Buffalo, NY. I just looked up the news, and found there were 400 - 830 on strike. From the news: “The strike lasted a total of four days, affecting every hospital in the Buffalo area. Resident physicians we spoke with say the low pay, coupled with long hours, make it impossible for them to make a living wage. On top of that, they tell us their benefits don’t even allow them to receive care at the hospitals they work for.” It totally reflected what you said about the inhuman treatment to the residents. I, too, really hope that this will trigger a chain reaction !! Hope they’ll “fight a good fight”, for themselves and for current and future residents and fellows, and med students !! Lastly, I really think Shaun is up to something with his message, to fight for a good fight, for the new generations. From Zach, there are like 25% physicians who are truly happy, the remaining are not. This is a worthy cause to fight for. Remember that AMA is on the residents / physicians side, at least on paper. It’d be really beneficial to bring attention to AMA, and expose the treatment to residents on the social media, and really changes to residency programs for better pay, better working hours, and better benefits - these “betters” are still quite poor comparing to what other same-age groups get.
Nice that either the residency program or your planning you have a difficult month followed by a sane 9-5 month. That dinner before the game looked great!
I am currently a freshman in college on the pre-med track and I've been watching your vids for a little bit now. They have been pretty insightful of the future for someone who wants to be a doctor. The pay in residency is such a huge iffy for me, like Im not doing this for the money but still it will take 12-14 years currently for me to see a good chunk of money even with a bachelors and med school completed. As someone who grew up and is currently low income it's a huge downside for me, but I still plan on pushing through it. I saw your pay transparency video and saw that I've had bigger paychecks at 16 in the summer than someone with Dr. as a credential (granted it was a 100+ hours pay period and I don't have federal taxes). But as a teen I should never even see the amount of money our resident physicians make. It's sad and hopefully something that people start fighting for, the people taking care of us should be compensated well.
That is awesome you're already so in-tune with this mindset so early in your career. I agree, hopefully we can advocate for better residency work conditions and pay so that future generations like yours can have it better. But the path is worth it, so I recommend sticking to it!
Hi Shawn: totally agree with you on getting better pay and fighting for better treatments and wellbeing for residents. Why is the CEO of HCA makes $35m, while residents make like 500 times less than that? Another gaslighting in medicine is “Doctors are not in medicine for the money”, f that. Working 80 hours per week earning like a salary below minimal wage is all the residents choosing? It’s so absurd. ALL residents and fellows should unite with other graduate students, to fight for themselves, especially when they are the backbone to make a lot of money for the hospitals. I LOVE what you said “we got to stop that, we need to create new standards for ourselves, fight for a good fight, for new generations”. No one can put it better than you said it in a car!! For Zach Highley, he was just TOTALLY stream rolled and burned out and crashed, as he felt he was heading to be a “zombie” and he was seeing all the “zombies” around him. I don’t know if he went to his program and his organization to tell these old guards about his issues. I felt so bad and angry about his program. I really wish Zach had heard your message before quitting, and he did not just crash his only dream of 10+ years, but “to fight a good fight”, for himself AND for all other residents and fellows who are in similar situations AND for all med students and high school students who will be in the same situation if nothing changes. There are many other residents quit, but most have a cause, such as Kevin doing MSI and Casey Means doing Levels. Even Peter Attia quit after surgical residency and fellowship because he went to VC. For physicians who quit with a cause, it should be celebrated. But physicians shouldn’t feel like “zombies”, then quit - it’s like a critically ill patient in the ER, and then get kicked out from the ER intentionally by the ER itself. AMA recognizes the physician burnout situation is a huge problems, it did survey to find that over half of US physicians experienced burnout - some form of “zombie” symptoms. This issue not only causes harm to the physicians themselves and their individual patients, but also to healthcare organizations as a whole. AMA promotes the “Joy in Medicine” national movement for physician wellbeing and a lot of prominent organizations have been joining in. Really hope this would be successful across the board, and truly bring physician wellbeing to all physicians, from residents to attendings. You can bring your experience and voice to AMA, and advocate at a national level !! Congrats on 50K - that’s so many people actually interested in medicine, as you’re a beacon light for a new generation of doctors who not only take care of the pat, but also take care of themselves!! Could you say something more about the wellness program? Is it a regular activity in your current program?
Hey, it doesn’t matter what someone’s reason is to quit. Zach Highley has every right to quit. Every single Human being on this planet has the right to forge a new future and doesn’t have to trudge along miserably just because someone says they should.
@@drumplaya83 Hey, not sure if you watched Zach’s quit video about ‘zombie’ and not sure if you understood my post. Maybe it was too long for you. Here is the key point: some (many) residency programs fail to protect residents and address the physician burnout or zombie problem. That’s what makes me angry at the programs in Zach’s case. That’s what makes me totally resonate with Shaun’s message: “we got to stop that, …, we need to create new standards for ourselves, fight for a good fight, for new generations.” Residents are in training, so it is a transit thing. So when some serious burnout problems happen, it is easy - straightforward to quit, to walk away. It’s much harder to fight for him/her self against the programs, it’s much harder to win. But if no ones fight for the problems that deeply affect them, no changes will take place. If no changes, more current and future residents will suffer. If more residents suffer, there will be severe cases where the affected residents will quit. Then this vicious cycle continues. Where will be the “new generation”? The US resident burnout rate is about 50% and dropout rate is about 3%. To residency programs, 3% can be tolerated. But to the residents who “have to quit” due to burnouts, it hit 100%. Zach put in 10 years into his medical career and it was his dream. In his first year of residency he met the stringent workload and schedule, and he looked did exceptional well for his work (see LinkedIn). Yet, when hearing he was going to quit, his program director could only muster some eerie or weird comments. Did they try to help? Do you think this is fair to Zach? Do you think the program director did not fail?
@ the program director failed, you’re right. Some people just hit a wall and can’t make it through but it’s unfortunate that when people are so close to finishing they can’t make it. For Zach he had about 5 more residency and fellowship years. That’s tough to swallow if ones heart is not in it. I have a feeling though that it wasn’t because of the residency it was because Zach realized medicine just is not for him no matter how it’s served to Him on a platter. And that’s ok to decide that. You make very good points I think we just interpreted his video differently. Still I’m glad buffalo New York had residents strike for better pay and I’m hoping this is a chain reaction. It’s inhumane to be in charge of human lives and make 50k a year to work 90 hours AFTER completing med school. I think we’re on the same page just making different points. I like that Shaun wants to fight for change
@@drumplaya83 thanks for sharing the news about the strikes by UB residents at Buffalo, NY. I just looked up the news, and found there were 400 on strike. @@drumplaya83 regarding Zach, it is clearly his choice - never a doubt there. I’m very disheartened to hear that he felt like he’s going to be a zombie and he saw so many zombies around him. It is just not acceptable to me that his program director took no actions to help him.
I really appreciate your thoughts on tough topics like wages, gaslighting in medicine, etc. I’m going into nursing from a background in Sociology and share similar concerns. Keep up the great work :)
Your just such a awesome person , that helps u makeing a balance of life. I always found Endo to be like a full time of knowledge. U dont rant. I agree with u 💯 % love your vlogs. ❤❤
Having worked in both military health and civilian/private health, the demands are vastly different. Military health is Mon-Fri, normal hours. When you go to civilian/private medicine its all about the money. How many days a week can you work and how many patients can you see in a day. These hospitals are operating like a company and not a provider.
@@ShaunAndersen I was a Navy corpsman and trained to be a Cardiovascular Tech. I've worked for civilian hospitals and the doctors work as fast as possible to get to the next call to make more money. I've seen doctors do LV grams and LV edp just because we already have access and its another charge. The morals are definitely shaky in healthcare. Hope you stick with it if its what you are passionate about!
Omg, we haven't seen Wilson in so long. He's been with you on the journey from day one and helped you move. I'm so glad he finally got into med school. The next generation in training! I think he's going to do psychiatry. He has that vibe lol. And this is exactly why I always get Christmas gifts for my doctors, they work their butts off and deserve to be treated well.
He’s been here through it all, ever since I became a scribe! I’m very excited for him to be on his own path now too. Psychiatry definitely would not be a surprise 👀
I know residency is tough but i like how you don't let it stop you from enjoying life with your friends and family. Unfortunately dr Zach wasn't able to have as much fun as you are having. I wonder if he would have picked different program would it had made a difference in his situation
It is tough, but I definitely can see why Zach made the decision that he did. Hopefully more people can find ways to enjoy the journey and find a good balance
Please keep these vlogs coming ,they r very entertaining ,and I feel better watching other doctors living their lives like normal people ,I have many interests and hobbies but as you said we were misled to believe a doctor should be in the hospital like 24/7 but no that should not be the norm ,as long as you are up to all your responsibilities as a doctor you can still have some fun and do other stuff too .thank you for sharing this with us .😊
I never clicked so fast, thank you for not leaving the medicine and you seem to be cracking the code of balancing your sanity between work and personal life :)
I've had a weird experience where medical school has been a lot easier than my life before starting (non-trad). I have time to spend with family now which probably sounds so bizarre, but I was working six days a week at my job and working seven days a week at my family business while getting my undergraduate degree to get here. All the volunteering, shadowing, etc., it took up soo much time. In the end, everything is relative, just try to enjoy the time that you do have in whatever field you're in. And, ultimately, this is just a job, it is not your life.
This has happened to me before and I am only in my 1st year of medical school. Thank God, I am not in the US though. Here residency is a bit more fair with less time spent in hospitals. But, the salaries are horrible. Like US beginner nurses make more. I am unsure if I should even do my residency program in the US because I don't think I am mentally prepared for the crazy hours you guys face there. Again, I love your dedication & I am inspired to be more like you
As my 19 year old son says , ‘cameras eat first!’ (So everyone gets the pics they need for their social media platforms of the food before it’s touched lol). Your steak and cake reminded me of that lol
Though I understand you valuing the time you spend outside the job and that’s very important it’s a sad reality that we severely lack in enough skilled medical practitioners to keep the hospitals running for people I mean I aspire to be one of those doctors whose life revolves around saving people I mean I want to have a point in my life where I can’t imagine taking an evening off because people are counting on me do I want that for my whole life probably not but who am I to decide when I become less useful but nonetheless to each your own and I respect your commitment to live a balanced life
I am studying to become a radiographer, and afterwards, I plan to study medicine. I can 100 % see what your are mean when you say, when we have time or are off, we still think about our studies or why we aren't doing more to reach new knowledge. And congrats on the 50k sub and thanks for good videos
Love this i see lots of residents drs mostly at uw dental. Sometimes i get nervous because i get thinging are they full drs now i know by whaching your videos i feel more confident with my dentist at the hospital. U are amazing dr Shawn ❤️
Shaun it’s crazy to say that I watched this video from Las Vegas (I’m from Australia). I am here for a holiday with the family and we even stopped by your old med campus at UNLV for a cheeky fan moment. Hope you’re well
I definitely understand your thoughts on having a career and lifestyle . Anyone working jobs that are 12 hours and have swing shifts and are on call for certain weekends feels the same way when you have a little extra time. I worked in the steel mill and paper mill my whole life. And I feel like my life passed me by . I feel like I didn't get to go and do anything or see much . Hour drive to work 12 hours at work and an hour drive back, so 14 hours, and it was swing . 7 day shifts , 7 night shifts . So while you're still young, go enjoy everything . And congratulations 🎊 👏 on your 50k

Whatever you do, take good notes and KEEP THEM in regards to all things endocrinology. ESPECIALLY for the rarer conditions- adrenal conditions (insufficiency and excess production and the treatment/testing for them), pituitary, hypothalamus and even thyroid. Once you have a good set of notes, keep them and frame them. These notes will likely have great usefulness for treating patients no matter what specialty you decide to go into as while the rarer endocrinology conditions are relatively rare, they still exist. I'm a patient with secondary adrenal insufficiency and it took 3.5 months to get diagnosed. None of the hospital providers or outpatient providers caught it and it was just by luck that my endocrinologist even knew anything about it and that was just the basics. I'm pretty sure that my primary care provider doesn't entirely believe in the existence of adrenal insufficiency (luckily he does great for everything else as well as his nurse practitioners having some bare bones understanding for continuing care for patients who are between endocrinology providers).
The thing I am most proud of in medical school is not my resume. I am most proud of my focus on prioritizing my life and happiness. I write music wheneve I get the chance, I try to sleep well, I spend time with my family, and I don't let the things that are supposed to be "extraordinary" be rare, as they are supposed to he part of my life. Thank you for speaking out against the gaslighting in medicine. As I go into emergency medicine next year, I will still prioritize my lifestyle. (Not to mention, screw resident's salary being so low and the amount of work is too much. It is criminal and I hope we can make that change)
To me gaslighting has always been more on the sickness point of things. I’ve always doubt like I’m yeaaa sick… but am I sick enough to call the day off. Never been to manage it.
First year residency is entry level. Entry level just means beginning of the career. However, that doesn’t mean that they could be allowed to take advantage of doctors at the beginning of their careers. They should not be expect them to work six days a week, in my opinion.
I guess I don't really see residency has the beginning of the career since it wouldn't be possible to do residency without having worked in other healthcare roles prior, as well as the schooling of course. But I totally see where you are coming from!
@@ShaunAndersen I spent years studying math...doesn't mean I wasn't entry level when I started my job. There is a huge difference in what happens in the classroom and actually applying what you learned.
Yeah but healthcare isn't stem even before medical students are residents they have rotations in the hospitals for many weeks and that's where they get their experience
@@veritypatrick8424yes healthcare is significantly more complex and thus requires a ton of training. Why don’t you let a medical student or first year resident do surgery on you alone without any guidance whatsoever from anyone with more experience and then come back and let me know how that went. I really want to be a doctor but i also want a family. But at the same time I also feel that medicine is the only career I want. Very tough takes a long time to be financially stable as a doc.
Hi Shaun, can u comment on mid-level encroachment and CRNAs in anesthesiology on you next video ?? Residency is definitely not entry level job however the mid-levels r taking over more of the responsibility and pay than the physicians.
Where does this dream world exist? As a nurse I’d go back to school in a minute if it meant less schooling for the same amount of money a doctor makes.
Hi Shaun! I'm a prospective medical student in South Africa and I am hoping to go into residency in the US after I've completed my studies here. Do you have any tips for creating a strong application and becoming a strong applicant for residency...I'm interested in doing Anesthesiology. Much Appreciated!
Hey there! That is so awesome! :) my main tips would be the same as any other specialty... get experience in anesthesia to make sure its what you really wanna do and make sure to get good letters of recommendation! And of course do well on your boards
The thing is that there is a person with a disease on the other end, who sometimes needs to be treated right away in order to achieve the best possible outcome. I also work 6 days a week and have been doing it for 10 years. Yes, I am burnt out. Yes, I have completely sacrificed my life for this profession. Yes, I do feel that I am underpaid for what I do. I agree with you, the system needs to change and they can start by allowing more people into medical school so that we get more doctors. We need more nurses and other health workers as well.
Can you talk about how the hospital feels about you vlogging (obviously not vlogging patients, but just having a youtube presence in general), and what you are always thinking about to comply with HIPA?
They haven't expressed any concerns and my PD and coordinators are well-aware of it and watch the vlogs haha. Complying with HIPAA is extremely easy honestly. I don't film in patient-care areas, I don't talk about anything related to my patients and keep the focus on me and my lifestyle
You really had a lot to say about “Gaslighting in Medicine”. I heard you. Doctors have to work as a team. It takes the Radiologists, Nurses, Attendees, Cheifs, Medical Assistants, Desk Clerks, Housekeepers, etc. to get a Doctor’s day completed. Doctors are held to the highest regard because of their training and title. They have the most education and training in the medical field. Yet, the patient’s care is the ultimate goal (Gold) of Standard👍🏾😀!

While I agree pay is not sufficient, residency is entry level. Multiple studies demonstrated that AI competes with resident level doctors on diagnoses.

Both my mom and I almost died last year because medicine isn’t really about treating the patient. For me what they thought was a sinus infection was actually a venus thrombosis (blood clot in the sinus cavity of my brain) Which i can forgive- who would have thought that? But my mom had a bacterial infection in her back along her spine that was constricting her spine in two places to the point she was two days away from being paralyzed- told she pulled a muscle for two weeks 🤨 If they had done a chest ct instead of an xray she might have been diagnosed properly sooner. Thankfully she is doing well now I am doing well now- but she could have died. And she will forever be considered infected. The medical system needs to change. Sorry for the long one.
Wow, that is so scary and I am sorry to hear you and your mom went through that. I hope you are okay now and your future experiences with healthcare do you justice. Sending you both all my best wishes!
I realize now he was talking about doctors not patients 😂 yes more balance for doctors as well as other medical staff is needed also. Just because its a calling doesn’t mean time off is important too.
A medical question: Why is the pituitary called the master gland if it, itself is under the control of hypothalamus. In that sense the pituitary is more like a puppet king .
Though I do see your point and reasoning regarding working in the field of medicine with standards, gaslighting, etc. What about patient access to these professionals and what is acceptable, and timely for them? I as a patient have been in a situation of having had a Thyroid issue discovered via various tests & scans in July, ultimately leading to a biopsy in late August with inconclusive results. The case was referred from my primary physician to a specialist (endocrinologist), and I was initially told the earliest appointment I could receive was mid-December!? As a reasonable, educated, level-headed person. This is an unacceptable wait time, at most it should be a maximum (if that) of 4 weeks time, considering validity, time frame, and accuracy of (as we all know) pricey tests, scans, & procedures.
I wonder about gaslighting the patients. Think about how inefficient it is for a patient to need to see 10ish doctors to get a diagnosis and they could be getting wore in the mean time and need even more care. How much better would things be if doctors checked their biases at the door?

its all extreme exploitation and free labor. we are seeing all the people with medicaid the govt doesn't want to pay for. every time I would get a day off I would feel guilty for going outside and eating or being outside. To the point where I would only feel happy when in the hospital. I would feel so guilty that I would not be able to do anything fun because of the guilt. I just couldn't feel happy. in fact. I would feel great in the hospital and cry the whole time on my day off I think because of the adrenaline withdrawl from being in the hospital. THEN second year they TOOK AWAY our golden weekends. Congrats man, I’m happy for you!! It takes a special person to be a doctor! I could handle medical school I have always wanted to be an anesthesiologist! I really enjoy donating to the anesthesiologist Foundation, since it was hard for me to go to college because of my cerebral palsy
@@KellyMay-b9b Same here, but for Celiac Disease. My Gastro really went the extra mile too. Then they changed my PCP and they tried to claim all the other Doctors were wrong. Loved the discussion! Gaslighting in medicine is such an important topic that needs to discussed so that everyone can understand what doctors go through on a day to day basis. It brought me so much joy seeing you having time off to do all those fun things. You are amazing doc! Keep going! : )
thank you so much!! :) glad you enjoyed!
I have to wonder though…
I imagine there is a lot of stuff they want residents to see and do before they are set off on their own.
Thank goodness things are moving in the right direction because this isn’t right.
she has also made videos addressing depression driven from the grueling life of residency

If these doctors aren't there, who is going to be there? Unfortunately the work hours for MD/DO is a simple result of supply and demand
You have such positive vibes! Keep it up man, God bless!
Thank you! Will do!
I LOOOOVE the music you're always playing during your drive! Please drop the playlist :D
I totally agree, as a Nurse, it seems like a treat when you actually get a day off and enjoy something outside of work.
Should be the norm!
Another point. I find it fascinating how being kind, generous, and focusing on good character and caring for patients comes across as shocking to medical students I train. It remains ironic that seeing those qualities is considered wonderful. It should be the norm. After practicing for my second year, I totally get why students say that.
I totally agree!

On top of that, they tell us their benefits don’t even allow them to receive care at the hospitals they work for.”
It totally reflected what you said about the inhuman treatment to the residents.
Recently found your channel....I'm loving the music selection 😊 on the morning drives.
Nice that either the residency program or your planning you have a difficult month followed by a sane 9-5 month. That dinner before the game looked great!
It is very nice! And the dinner was amazing!! One of our favorite restaurants 🤩
I always look forward to your vlogs. Hospitals and doctors make me anxious and honestly you’re helping my anxiety
Wow that means so much :) im so glad the vlogs help!
Shaun, I am glad you are making this video once you were done w med school and matched! A lot of people can relate to this so thank you!!!
I feel like now that I’ve matched, I’m more free to speak my mind on some of these issues 😅
That’s what makes me totally resonate with Shaun’s message: “we got to stop that, …, we need to create new standards for ourselves, fight for a good fight, for new generations.”
Residents are in training, so it is a transit thing.
I have a feeling though that it wasn’t because of the residency it was because Zach realized medicine just is not for him no matter how it’s served to
Him on a platter.

Having worked in both military health and civilian/private health, the demands are vastly different. Military health is Mon-Fri, normal hours. When you go to civilian/private medicine its all about the money. How many days a week can you work and how many patients can you see in a day. These hospitals are operating like a company and not a provider.
I definitely agree! Interesting to hear you have experience on both sides!
Love your videos Shaun, I know how hard it is with the time demands of residency to put them together. Been watching since you were pre-med

Please keep these vlogs coming ,they r very entertaining ,and I feel better watching other doctors living their lives like normal people ,I have many interests and hobbies but as you said we were misled to believe a doctor should be in the hospital like 24/7 but no that should not be the norm ,as long as you are up to all your responsibilities as a doctor you can still have some fun and do other stuff too .thank you for sharing this with us .😊
I’ll be continuing them as long as people keep watching! :) that’s the exact message I’m trying to spread
I never clicked so fast, thank you for not leaving the medicine and you seem to be cracking the code of balancing your sanity between work and personal life :)
I completely agree with you…how do we come together to change this and fight for residents?
I think talking openly about it is a good start which I am trying to do with my channel, the next step in joining resident union leadership positions
Congrats on 50k. 🎉You deserve it!
Thank you so much!!🥹
@ShaunAndersen You're welcome Shaun..You say what many folks in this business are scared to admit or speak out loud.
That is so awesome and refreshing to hear, I am glad you having such an awesome experience! :)
Again, I love your dedication & I am inspired to be more like you
Just remember us subs who were with you from the beginning Dr Shaun 😜!
I’d never forget :p
As my 19 year old son says , ‘cameras eat first!’ (So everyone gets the pics they need for their social media platforms of the food before it’s touched lol). Your steak and cake reminded me of that lol
LOL that is exactly what we do too!! 😂 your son is right!
Though I understand you valuing the time you spend outside the job and that’s very important it’s a sad reality that we severely lack in enough skilled medical practitioners to keep the hospitals running for people I mean I aspire to be one of those doctors whose life revolves around saving people I mean I want to have a point in my life where I can’t imagine taking an evening off because people are counting on me do I want that for my whole life probably not but who am I to decide when I become less useful but nonetheless to each your own and I respect your commitment to live a balanced life
I understand, just be careful. That is usually how burnout happens

Hope you’re well
I couldn't agree more. The paradigm needs to shift to better work conditions better pay and more time off.
Love your videos!!
im so glad :') thank you
I definitely understand your thoughts on having a career and lifestyle .
Wow that sounds like you spent so much of your time working. I hope you’re enjoying life these days and getting times for the small moments

Don’t tempt me 👀
Whatever you do, take good notes and KEEP THEM in regards to all things endocrinology.
I am now sort of addicted to your vlogs...
Not a bad thing to be addicted to 👀

That is so awesome!! Music writing has to be one of the coolest passions ever! Glad you already have this mindset while in med school

To me gaslighting has always been more on the sickness point of things. I’ve always doubt like I’m yeaaa sick… but am I sick enough to call the day off. Never been to manage it.
That is a great point!
I had ran a Halloween 5k run this morning and I went to work this afternoon.
That’s insane!! Great job!👏
I’m running a half marathon next Sunday 😂
The thing is that there is a person with a disease on the other end, who sometimes needs to be treated right away in order to achieve the best possible outcome. I also work 6 days a week and have been doing it for 10 years. Yes, I am burnt out. Yes, I have completely sacrificed my life for this profession. Yes, I do feel that I am underpaid for what I do. I agree with you, the system needs to change and they can start by allowing more people into medical school so that we get more doctors. We need more nurses and other health workers as well.
Thank you!!!!! Sometimes it feels like doctors forget that patients are real people who are suffering.
Hopefully you don't mean allowing more people in by lowering the standards to become doctors and nurses.
What restaurant were you enjoying that awesome looking meal?
Strip House at Planet Hollywood!
Thats the reason i didnt want to go into Medicine! The sacrifices and the horrendous hours that have to be put in and what for.
saw dr mike play ow and immediately thought of you
I saw that! Him and I gotta play OW together sometime 😂
Hairs looking great on ya brother!
thanks bro :')
BUT why are doctors worked this unacceptably hard ?? Are they short of doctors or ???? I don’t get it ?
Not sure ;(
This frown turns upside down when another video drops! :P
Yayyy!! :)
Not sure what you expect in a business that's makes it's money off of the sickness (mental ,/ physical)of others.its their cash cow. And yes that includes the sickness of the physicians/ nurses also. Cause it's a cycle. And it can only be sustainable through a cycle. Also I don't appreciate the nurses and doctors promoting soda and
sugary energy drinks dancing in TikTok. What are the long term effects of these inflammatory sugars on the body? Anything for money right? Doing dirty work for big p harma and the food industry????
Nice video ❤
Thanks 🤗
Where did Abby go?
While I agree pay is not sufficient, residency is entry level. Multiple studies demonstrated that AI competes with resident level doctors on diagnoses.
I appreciate the point!
@@ShaunAndersen yeah everyone’s reality is different. You’re already on a successful path with endless opportunities. Don’t ever be discouraged, I know that you’ve been patient and dedicated for a long time, a little bit more and hopefully you’ll be at a place in which you’re collecting best outcomes.
It's been a whike since I have watched you videos how's it going
Yoooo my mom it’s been a minute! It’s going well, how are you?
@@ShaunAndersen I'm good my Half term at school just started
A sick care system over a health care system is terrible 😭😭😭
I am glad you are both okay, but I hope this never happens to you guys ever again
@@ShaunAndersen It’ll take a while for the trauma to calm down and to trust doctors again but we’re both doing well now
A medical question:
Why is the pituitary called the master gland if it, itself is under the control of hypothalamus. In that sense the pituitary is more like a puppet king .
I don't think anyone has been brave enough to ask that question before... but you lowkey got a point
What field are u specializing in
Anesthesiology!
A like purely for the Simple Plan song.
I appreciate the like 🫡🙏🏻
Though I do see your point and reasoning regarding working in the field of medicine with standards, gaslighting, etc.

The end.
Wilson is going into emergency medicine, mark my words
Lowkey you might be right :P
