Oh boy... Here in the PNW, near Seattle, that's our soil, where you're digging a hole for the rose. Here it's glacial remains. Watching you I feel like I'm doing the digging. For some reason it helps a lot. When I'm hacking away now, I'll think of you and your gorgeous garden, and persist. Always learn so much from you. Thanks, John!

Came in from the garden - been out there all day - for cup tea and a biscuit - and what do I find - John Lord on You tube - what more can I ask for - Tea biscuit and Johns channel - utter pleasure - its boosted me up to get back out there - ah the love of gardening.

Thank you for your honest gardening. I always feel like I am doing something wrong ,because my work does not reflect the video's that I watch ahead of time. I start out thinking that I can easily accomplish, then fast forward a fee hours and I am a hit mess with a huge mess. Sort of akin to an I love Lucy episode. You are so honest and your garden is breathtaking beautiful. Thank you again!

Thanks, John. You’re everything that’s good about UA-cam: a camera pointed at someone who’s passionate about their craft, and with all the nonsense left out. I’ve learned so much. With thanks also to David - the hidden hero. I’d say this channel should be picked up by a network, but I expect some executives would find a way to spoil it. All power to the good people of Ratoath Garden Centre. What a haven! 😊

That strip of ground along the front of the sheds will be a real showpiece, once it's all planted up. Both roses are equally beautiful. Looking forward to seeing the finished article. You'll need to put some kind of doorstop to prevent the door from going all the way back and crushing the roses in the wind, once they are established and spread out on the trellis.

Lot of gravel there but I dig up gravel to 5 lb. stones when I plant. Usually I take the nursery can full of rocks away for every plant I put in. It is amazing my plants grow at all. I live in central NY.

Gorgeous gardens! May I recommend a Root Slayer shovel? They are amazing getting into earth. 2 sizes, Nomad is smaller and the one I use most often. XL is the larger and great for digging out small stumps or shrubs. Highly recommend. Those and a D/stirrup hoe have changed my avid gardener life!

@@floragardener9005 I always recommend the Root Slayers, and you are the first to know what I'm talking about! Amazing shovels! I can dig small tree stumps out with these. I can get through our rocky, clay soil with them. And they're hefty enough to provide leverage to pry bigger stones out of the earth. I also have the Root Slayer edger for neat edging! Highly recommend!
I'm in USA zone 5b in Massachusetts.
Root Slayer, if you're listening, would you manufacture an oscillating D/stirrup hoe?
