What a fantastic video, John! Watching you axing out the rose is more entertaining than watching the World Cup finals! You give me great courage to go out and deal with my ‘difficult’ garden. I am learning from you not to be afraid of making mistakes, trying out, and simply trying out again. It’s a joy to watch you work because you love what you are doing. Thank you!

I was really contemplating of transferring a rose bush to a new spot. Her old spot gets too dry for her and quite dangerous as there was a newly built basketball court near it. But I had a hard time transferring her to a new spot and thought of giving up. Then this video popped up 😆 I guess God gave me a sign.

John has been the main reason I got into roses. Because he has shown me that they can be kicked/plucked up outta the ground/cut back and tossed about and they still bloom better than ever for him. Buy a rose you won't regret it!

Had a similar experience with Cornelia's cousin Buff Beauty and finally decided to leave her where she was in dense shade under a Korean fir, rather than continue the battle any longer. A broken garden fork may have been involved in the decision. She isn't quite as happy as she was when she was waving from the top of it thirty feet up but the fir is much happier with her back on the ground and she's still lovely at ground level. We may eventually get all the dead rose branches out of the tree. Do you have Leonard Messel for sale? As always astonished by your energy as I am every time i see you working in the nursery. Inspirational. By the way, I'm sure you know already but Beth Chatto's dry garden looked exactly like that area when it was a car park.

You need both Root Slayer Nomad and Root Slayer XL shovel. These changed my gardening life! Amazing for getting up shrubs, small trees, Root pruning et al.
One other amazing tool took my weeding down from 8 hours a weekend to less than 2 - D hoe (aka stirrup hoe). I use all 3 of these tools on an almost daily basis. Rarely use a standard pointed shovel any longer.
