So I learned two things in this video: 1) Electric snowmobiles exist - brilliant idea! 2) Michael Downie: Fashionista - stylin' up the slopes! Couldn't help but notice that snowsuit matches the hat you designed - Coincidence??
This is NOT worlds first production snowmobile ... eSled snowmobiles from Finland have been on the market since 2017. Here is a video of one of their snowmobile from 3 years ago. ua-cam.com/video/KijqI-MkBRk/v-deo.html ...
As a avid backcountry snowmobiler the battery life in the cold and distance it can go still worry’s me as well as the WEIGHT! I’m not the only one that breaks at least one part per season so how accessible are parts and of course how does it do in the real technical and deep snow, to me a top speed test means nothing personally. I’m definitely not sold on it after this “test” but maybe it is a step closer to the future but then you look at electric dirtbikes and see how bad they flopped. Hope the best for the company though!
2 strokes won't die if they get to cold plus you get to piss off a liberal so it's a double win. Always buy 2 stroke and demand they start making them again.
At first I thought this is not a new video, but then I realized in the middle of this week we were at freezing and had almost 3" of snow. I don't live on a mountain. I'm in Cincinnati right on the Ohio River. First, this scenery is unbelievable. Going up the snowy trail with blue sky and those overhead spiral views were spectacular. Testing the equipment gave us a "in the driver's seat" view. "I feel the need - the need for speed". Once again, you did it Mike. We see the future.
The Atlas looks good for playing in your backyard but doesn't have enough range for serious trail or backcontry riding. The people I ride with frequently do 120-150 mile days. The Nomad looks great for ice fishing, farm and forestry work and ski resorts. I see it being Taiga's most popular model.
Some much-needed vicarious entertainment and enjoyment on this Saturday morning. Thanks for taking us along for the rides. Vive le Québec! Vive le Canada!
Before I got to the point in the video where you talked about your understandable skepticism/doubt about the battery potentially running out in the cold, I asked myself the same question. But at least you and the viewers on this awesome channel of yours got the answer to that particular question putting aside all doubts. There is NO DOUBT that this product looks pretty darn COOL! Besides the electric snowmobile looking cool, I bet you had just as much fun riding it! Woohoo!!!!! Thanks for uploading this Michael! :)
Wow! This was a visually stunning video. There were so many camera angles and shots, great use of drones and that fisheye drone camera was wild and all of it was so smoothly edited with no choppiness. It was a joy to watch, even if I do live in an area that never gets snow in the winter.
Ah, an electric snowmobile! I knew about electric buses, cars, private jets and helicopters, but had never considered an electric snowmobile! Another fine video.
who the hell wants a quiet electric snowmobile. 2 STROKE LOUD AND PROUD BABY!!! Love pissing people off at 2 AM going mach 10. people call the cops and the cops cant do shit because they show up in their shitty SUV. bahahaha
Wow. That was fun watching. Loved that 360 camera view. Its so nice to see snow like that.... I believe Snowmobiles are both fun and necessary for transport needs in there.
I can see these being super popular at ski resorts. Being able to keep them topped off without needing to buy fuel could be great for them. Have a charger at all the ski patrol stations and they will never have to worry about running low on gas. the fast acceleration and torque is great for response times too.
Still waiting to see these sleds in the hands of a professional rider. So far everything I have seen does nothing to convince me of the legitimacy of the performance claims. I want to believe that they are the future. But seeing someone cruising around on packed snow doesn't really do it. I want to see it carve and climb in the deep stuff.
I was in Svalbard, Norway and Sweden riding Snowmobile... At first I was trying to stay away but a few moment had passed I was stuck with it and had never let it go. That was hillarious moment but things come out with the positive Snow Crystal made me wanted to settle down there permanently. Sleight ride and Sleight bells ring but Snowmobile is more energetic for using over the frozen snow and sometime can be on the deep snow!
Thats awesome! Who knew they would make an electric snow mobile . I have an electric bicycle and i absolutely love it ! Great video Michael keep up the great job !
Mike awesome! Snowmobiled 30 years here in Maine. This is very cool. The idea of not sniffing fumes all day when in a group riding all day. Wow. Very cool. Love this. THANKS FOR VIDEO👍👍👍👍. This is why I love your channel. You see it all!
Well wow! Gorgeous spot, amazing machines (maybe they could help cell phone producers with battery issues in the cold) and loving the retro snowsuit! Thanks for bringing us along!
that looks like tons of fun Mike! and also, the bird in the beginning, what and how :P and as many mentioned before, that snowsuit ist just fantastic. I´m jealous.
Mike that is so cool! Love the lack of noise the electric snowmobiles have. Great video, I've been waiting for your next post, and I'll have you know I'm rocking my LIVE Wirth hat and my Wool Wirth hat now that they made it from Vancouver to Orinda. I love my Weekday LIVE hat, It's so comfortable and I know I'm promoting you when I wear it and since I think you're awesome, I'm so glad to do it. I love telling people about your channel and getting them to check your channel out. Keep up the great work Michael!!
Its too early right now for the average mountain rider but I can't wait for the technology to evolve so we can bring those and ride all day just like gasoline snowmobiles. Will definitely consider switching from my summit 850 to this in a few years.
@@DownieLive Glad to be here. I teach a lot of ESL online and constantly get questions about Vancouver and asked for examples of the Canadian accent. You take care of those questions quite nicely. Thanks much. 😉
I'm so f.. jealous. I have been looking for an electric snowmobile for ages. That is soooo cool. Mike you get the best breaks out there. I am changing my car for an electric this coming month. I had to wait a long time for the manufacturer to build mine. The idea of having an electric snowmobile is a major turn on. Mike talk to them and see if you could test it again and this time show us how to charge them. Awesome content !!!
So much snow in April... crazy. I like the new kind of snow scooter but how long does this work? With one driving with gas you can have an extra container of gas with you but with electric motor? Canada is huge and the next loading station can be far away
That looked like a ton of fun Michael, thanks for sharing! I traded in my 2016 MINI Cooper S for a 2021 MINI Cooper SE (Electric) and I absolutely LOVE IT! The off the line performance is awesome and being able to recharge at home and cut my fuel bill has been great. I also love (as you demonstrated in the video) how quiet it is and do not miss the sound of an internal combustion engine! Next up...I need to get my hands on the new Porsche Taycan! Cheers, Rick
No offense to you but Taiga should get riders on their mountain sled that actually do some back country riding. Trails are fine it will work ok. Trails don't use up the power. I want to see this thing preform in the nasty drainages that we ride in. Tell Taiga if they really want to put their sled to the test hit me up and we can really go test their sleds in some deep powder and steep ravines and sidehills.
So how about some info. How long do they battery's last. Whats the maximum range. How expensive are replacement batteries. How many watts is the motor.

That was super cool Michael!!! Crazy how much snow was there in April. I did quite a bit of snowmobiling in my younger days but they were so loud. This electric version would be a nice change. I wonder how much time/how many miles they get on a charge though. Seems like they would be perfect for ski resorts. I am once again amazed at how you come up with content like this. Great job!!!
Mike - At 06:30 - the engineer mentioned placing system sensors in the radiator and I found that a bit odd as this isn't a traditional gas-powered snowmobile [so why a radiator?] Then it dawned on me that they needed a way to offset excess heat discharged while there are heavy loads being used from the battery area. How dose it do in the Deep snow, move it up on its side, how long of ride, go in the mountains and have no electricity , top speed, and how much for it, how to plug it in, can it take some beating, how’s the battery going to hold up during the summer when it’s not getting used, how can you ride it before the battery’s crap out, how many miles can you put on before it craps out

The range is about the same as the range of a traditional snowmobile. I rode it for about 4 hours, and didn't run out...so it's pretty good!
How did you do that great video effect? Where it looks like a fish-eye lens mixed with a drone angle, creating a world-esque image.
It’s a 360 camera!
A battery will warm up, once under load, it sounds like they have simply insulated it so as to retain that heat?
I want one, with wheels, to use in the summer.
Amazing! I have questions! Price, how many hours on one charge?
Not sure, but we were out on the mountain for 4 hours and didn't run out...
The 90s looking snow gear is cool too.
The system is really quiet and you can definitely hear gears and tracks moving in this system.
I'm still skeptical about all totally electric vehicles [snow or otherwise] because if you get too far out of the way and there is no generator or access to the power grid, how do you recharge the vehicle?
