Great tutorial! I'm not a beginner, but I thought adding bits like switching back to straight stitch, and reasons why things are done made this video perfect for beginners. I'm watching several tutorials because I want to make my daughter some shorts. While I'm not a beginning sewer (I won't say seamstress, I'm not that level lol), I'll probably forever be a beginning pattern-maker. I'll take all the help I can get! Again, loved your video.
I am making these today with scraps and your video makes it seem super easy. I’m at the step where you attach the bias tape, hope to get it done today, thanks for the video!
If you can afford it, try athletic fabric. Making your own athletic shorts means no more color or sizing problems at the store and you can make better stitches than done if the Walmart or other store varieties.
Hello, thank you so much for the great video. I got the shorts sewn by hand within 7! Hours with the hand sewn. So you can do that too 😄. I was going to make another one for myself out of linen fabric. Do you maybe have an idea what I have to take into account?❤
You should sooo come back and make more sewing videos :) ! I bet you’d get a good following since you have definitely a decent amount of subs for only having a few videos!!!
Sorry I know this is probably a dumb question but do you remove the needles as you sew? I have never sew before and I'm waiting for my sewing machine to come in the mail.
Please Help!! After pinning the binding at the sides at 3:42 you said " & now they look like shorts" but you didn't show in video anything & forgot to mention what type of seam to sew & where to sew the seams. Do I sew on both left & right sides of the binding? Or just 1 side? Do I sew them inside out? Or is this topstitched? What type of needle do I use because of added binding thickness? Is it Straight stitch? Please Help!!
Hi! The pattern is designed for a woven fabric, but I imagine poly/spandex would work as long as you follow all the same steps...let me know if you try it!!
Check your tension. That's almost always going to be your issue. If that's not it, make sure you don't have any little lint pieces floating around in your bobbin area. Those tiny suckers can wreak some havoc on your machine, and fabric!
But what if I wanted to make shorts with Jersey knit it Spandex? Aside from needing a ballpoint needle, I would think the process would be essentially the same.
Hi love your video.....question what size did you cut out your shorts please...I'm making some for my daughter her hip size is 37 inches so i made the 38-40...she lives away so not able to try on until I send them.
Good question! I have approx 36" hips and I've made both the 35-37 and 38-40. The bigger ones were definitely looser and very comfortable. The smaller ones fit too but are just a bit more snug around the hips. I think 38-40 was a good choice!
Hi! I thought I replied to this already but I don't see it...sorry if I'm doubling up! I used regular old quilters cotton. You can use any woven fabric that doesn't have stretch!
All of the teens are wanting this style this year. THANK YOU so much!
As a complete beginning watching this is the most daunting thing in the world lmao
Jillian, can you please please please do a version of this with pockets?! (Please?)

i wish you would’ve posted a video of you cutting the pattern & putting them together :(
Sorry I know this is probably a dumb question but do you remove the needles as you sew? I have never sew before and I'm waiting for my sewing machine to come in the mail.
Yes u absolutely want to remove to pins as u go! U do not want to sew over the pins because u will ruin your sewing machine. Hope I could help.
And it was definitely not a stupid question! 😊
How do you deal with the bias tape around the curve in the pattern?
Love this tutorial
I can't find the pattern. The post is there, but I can't find a link for the pattern.

really enjoyed the video but had to watch it at 0.75 multiple times even if I'm not a beginner !
Did you sew the binding right on top of eachother or did you sew one of the binding onto the shorts material?
Thanks for this. Good work by You and Your Producer.
Thanks! My husband did a great job putting it all together :)
All your videos are awesome and super helpful, I wish you had more
I hope to be able to start making more soon!
Really good tutorial with excellent camera work!
great instructions so helpful! thx! PLEASE make more!
I want to!!
Is this for girls only? Can a man wear them?
Does anyone know where I can find a free pattern for this style of shorts for men? All I'm finding are for women and kids.
Hi I have a question. Do you make the back side wider than the front, so that you can overlap the hip edges?
Hi! You are exactly right! The way the pattern is drafted, the back piece is wider so that you see the overlapped edges in front (vs on the side).
Thank you so much Jillian for your response.
Made it, came out awesome, please share more pdf
Nice pattern mine are wonderful
Thanks for this tutorial!
the pattern is not available anymore could anyone please pass me the pattren?

But how do you make the pattern pieces...?
I was thinking the exact same thing 🤔😂

Wow. Really nice tutorial!

I have the same sewing machine! I have an issue where it constantly clogs, do you know how i can fix this issue?

Love it!!! Thanks! ❤️
Liz Lecter thank you!!
hi what type of fabric did you use for this project?
Hi! I used a basic quilting cotton for the pair in this video. You could use any light to medium weight woven fabric!
