- I like this little radio. If you're new to gmrs or radio in general maybe this will save you some time in looking for a gmrs radio. The Baofeng uv9g works well. It has its quirks and drawbacks but for $50 bucks it's not bad at all. It performs good for the price range. It's my recommendation for gmrs to outfit the family. Especially for the outdoors since it's waterproof. If you are looking for the best gmrs radio over all or the Cadillac HT I recommend the Wouxun KG-935G. I will be doing an updated video on this radio I've definitely had some issues with them. One of them the FM Radio does not work. And the same radio when you transmit all you hear is static. So there's definitely issues I'll be returning that one. I'm going to be doing more tests with the other two that I have before I make the video but just Please be aware that there is always a risk buying Baofengs. I don't care which model it is I have several UV 5 hours that have issues I'll talk about those as well.

@@0ddBall7704 Good to know. This one I have is going back. I'll be doing some more testing with the other two I have to see if there are any more issues but I'm disappointed in the quality control Baofeng has. I probably won't be buying anymore.
The side key for FM on one of mine wasn't doing anything but beeping at me, but once I pressed the SOS button on top, the side button started working too. Now the orange button on the top and the side key have the same functionality (quick press FM and long press for alert)

I know you can program the side keys on a lot of radios but I don't remember if you can on that one or not
One of the guys on the CHIRP team was able to fix mine, it wasn’t able to pull up the radio settings. They since patched that fix into a newer version of CHIRP. it’s worked great ever since.
Bring waterproof is what sold it on me over similarly priced radios.
Changing a frequency in the DIY on chirp to a non GMRS frequency will allow you to transmit on non GMRS frequencies on this radio.
Just purchased 2 of these. New license, new to grms haven't operated any radios since the 70's and that was just CBs. A little daunting trying to figure this out. But I will. Thanks for the info. I found the software on the Baofeng site.
Do yourself a favor and get the Wouxun radios. Much better sound and quality. Baofeng radios are the bottom of the Barrell when it comes to quality
Mine did not work at all. It scanned and scanned and would not even pick up the weather stations. Luckily I got it on Amazon so it is an easy return.

The Wouxun KG-935G is hard to read in the sunlight compared to the UV-9G easy to read screen. I just purchased the UV-9G, had it about a week and they fixed all the complaints/suggestions, well 8 of them, that was bought to their attention. The KG-935G is a very nice radio, no doubt about it.
I have the KG 935 and love it. By the way I sent you an email a couple of weeks ago.
Was dealing with a cold plus I banged my head and needed that to heal up before I got back onto videos. But it's all good now. I'll go check the email here shortly. And yes the 935G is definitely a good radio!
Great video! Can you please make a video explaining how to set the radio to a repeater so one can talk to friends from the distance? I am new and I am still trying to figure it out all this things! Thank you
Do you have a video on programming it directly, without the software? I don't have a PC and need help understanding how to use the built-in programming capability.
I do not have a video of that. I'm not sure how much you can do that way without the software. It might be worth looking into connecting with the ham radio group in your area. Maybe one of those guys might let you use their PC. Usually they are more than willing to help out.

Will the Baofeng programming cable work with Windows 11? I have a Ham radio that uses a Prolific 23xx chip cable, Windows no longer supports it. Even with the software, firmware and driver updates it will not work.
Will the uv-5r extended batteries fit into this model

Mine didn’t either.
I had problems with mine. I put it on scan and it did not even pick up the weather stations. Nothing. It scanned and scanned. Nothing. I bought a cheap weather radio at a consignment shop for a dollar and it works better than Baofeng UV9G. I'm just saying that was my experience with it so I'm returning it.
Check if your channels have ctcss turned on. If so, that might be your issue.
No offense, but you might want to work on shortening your intro clip, I was ready to click another video at about the 20 second mark.

I bought one, when I received it the antenna was bent, the antenna mount was also damaged (they shipped me a preowned, damaged unit) DON’T BUY BAOFENG!!!
Yikes! Yeah not cool. I've had ok luck with my UV9Gs but dang that's not cool. A large portion of my Baofeng collection has had issues of some sort of another. They under perform compared to my retevis radios. Maybe send it back and try the Retevis RA85. I like mine. Or a Wouxun. Yeah I tend to agree these days about the Baofengs. Just too much poor quality control to let it slide.
I can't recommend these radios anymore. Constant problems. Poor quality.
You know what the more I use them and compare them to other radios I feel similarly.
@@northmanproject4007Wouxun has great Customer Service as well. Baofeng was my first radio and I didn't pay very much. But I was shocked at how bad the quality was compared to the Wouxun. Great channel by the way.
@@centralfloridagmrs yeah that's been my experience as well I have a few new radios that I'm going to be reviewing one of them is a Wouxun. I just haven't gotten to it yet but I will.
