In this loop pedal shootout video, we compare the main specifications of Boss's 3 newest loop stations. The Rc-5 is the most compact pedal, but still boasts a huge range of features such as 13 hours of stereo looping, a built in drum machine, 99 memory patches and USB connectivity, the RC-10 features all of this but also has a much more comprehensive drum rhythm section, whilst the RC-500 is the flagship model featuring 2 separate loop tracks and both microphone and instrument inputs.
Although they each offer something a little different, all of these next generation looper pedals feature 32-bit digital processing, a huge improvement in sound quality over the older models. So if you were confused which loop pedal to buy, hopefully we can help you decide which of these models is the best loop pedal for you.

Man! The way this guy demonstrated the pedals was professional.....👍🏼
lol silly he is a professional he is paid i can give him a run but im not paid i chose this as a hoby and other for work this is a release from the other
Chickachickahhh...
lol
When I was in a band My drummer would say the guitarist had a case of the chickachickkas lol...and after that I heard it all the time.
Great to see an actual comparison video rather than a just a demo.
This is a very helpful video, clearly demonstrating the capabilities of, and differences between, the three pedals. Thank you for this!
Most helpful video I've found on my search for the right pedal by far, thank you!
There's a reason why this video has 507 likes no dislikes.. been watching many UA-cam videos to get an idea of what loop pedal to buy.... this video is better value than all the other videos I watched combined.
I’ve been toying with the idea of getting my first blooper lately. I knew I wanted a Boss product but exactly which one I wasn’t sure about, but this video was very helpful to me. Thank you!
Your videos are always so totally professional. Thank you so much.
A great video mate. Thanks for all your efforts and what I'm sure was a considerable outlay.
Cheers!!!
Thank you! Absolutely going with the RC 10R.
Excellent review thank you - got the RC 500 recently.
Very well done! Great demos.
Great demonstration, and you’re super, super talented.
Incredible demo! well done!
Thank for your very nice explanation and also quickly demos. Appreciate it a lot. Hope now I have very clear idea on what I need to buy. 🙏 thank you again. Love from India
Great explanation and I really dig your performances 💯🔥 10/10 vid
Thank you for the comparison, very helpful indeed. The playing was also great :)
So great! Well done. A perfect how to you tube clip with demo! Thank you
New here to the channel & a Gr8 Video just when I need it From PMTV UK and Boss comes thru ... Im currently looking for a looping pedal & u cant got wrong with Boss for sure. I have 5 80's Boss pedals and they all still work great. Im definitely going for 1 of these 3. I really like the drum choices of the 10R...TY again for the vid.
Best video exist on the UA-cam about Looper Pedal... Love this English Man
lovely playing too !
The last 1/4 of video is stellar
Very good, excellent demonstration...
Very nice demo man!
Amazing demo in the end.
Great video mate! You helped me make a educated choice, I just hate those bloody steel buttons because when I practice at home, I'm not wearing any shoes and its a pain
Excellent video, man!!
Absolute best demonstration! I think you said you could in the video but do you have any videos of you using the RC500 set up the same way as the RC10 with the drumtrack switching for verse/chorus?
Hey, great playing !!
Great demo!
great demo aside...you absolutely killed it!
Great demo and performance
Great video comparison.
Top demo. Nice playing!!!!
amazing video lad.. great music too
love this guy's intensity
Great video! Thanks!
Pumped up kicks was such a vibe!!!!
Awesome reviews 👏
Great video dude
Your demo and review videos are great, man. Could you possibly do a new video with the RC-600? You you a much better job of keeping to the point and showing off the capabilities than most others!
Great ! it's help a lot 🙏
Damn dude you're a wizard with that 500!
Powerful demo
Good job
Very nice demo thanks! just got the Rc500, it gave me an idea of what I can get from it!
I find particularly cool the 2 outputs, you can play and loop bass and guitar on their dedicated amp :)
Thanks for demoing these 3 units. Do either the RC5 or RC500 allow routing the drums or a click to a single output for the drummer to reference/monitor during a live performance?
Hi! this was a great video. Just one question, who set the drum line in the track 2? It just shows that after activating track 2 the drumms' playing changed.
Thanks
Hi! is it possible to change the tracks with the footswitch while playing? For instance, I have 2 sections: verse and Chorus, is it possible to switch between both section without stopping the recording?
Top review
There are great songs in Waltz-Time 3/4 or Blues-Ballads in 6/8 and I love playing them ! Where can I find the rhythms for those songs?
Thanks 😊
I own the RC-5 and really love it!! much better than my RC-3 which I will sell. The screen and superior sound quality alone is worth the upgrade
I think I'm going to keep my RC-3 since they'll be a collectors item before long 😄
Is true? The song is much better than The rc3? I thought the same quality of The song between pedals
Dude made 3 hit songs in like 4 minutes. Nice video.
Great info thanks. Can the RC5 hook up in sync with the RC10?
Thank you! can you mute input monitoring on the 500?
Still cant decide between the RC10R and the 500!
Can you tell me if o the boss rc10R loop track 1 and track 2 can be played together?
Thank you Sir! Please show me, how can i adjusted up and down volume of rhythm (Drum) on RC5 pedal. I feel the sound of Drum is too loud for the guitar volume. I want down volume of Drum, while keeping the guitar volume, i hope you can help me. Thank a lot!
Hold down the drum button the second from the left the first option will be level and just turn that down
Can I use BOSS RC-5 with dual footswitch (FS6/FS7) almost in such a way as RS10 to switch between separate loop phrases (chorus and verse)? Is it possible to achieve this by switching memory banks (smoothly?) OR by muting/stopping all loop tracks (overdub) without stopping the rhythm using some ext. midi control?
I really want to know this aswell. With possibly the use of a morningstar mc6. Have memory write, memory up and down. Record a loop in memory one, hit write then memory up. If the rhythm is the same on the next memory will it continue playing during the memory change. And will writing it interupt play and can you memory up and down inbetween two loops while they're playing or do they stop
Sam is the Digitech Trio+ as good as the RC10R or better?
Great video my man. I know I’m a little bit behind the game, but I have “upgraded” from the RC3 to the RC30. I’m thinking about getting the RC5 as I’m sure it is miles away better than the RC3. I’m just hoping the whole double clicking pedal thing is not gonna be a turn-off.
I’ve never gotten used to the double tap for looping…
Sam your a super talented looper. Very tight. I appreciate your video displaying the main important differences here with the different boss pedals. Very helpful. Thank you.
Curious if you get use an external footswitch to stop the rhythm track? Also, how do you control volume of the rhythm? Doesn't seem to have a volume slider like the rc-30
Yes it really miss a volume contrôle for the batterie in the rc 500 you must adujst it every time because it's too loud. And also you cannot stop or adjust the reverb in the mic too if you put it in your recording loop. Really the menu of this rc 500 is not user freindly at all. Finaly i send it back...
Troubleshooting
Drum beat on
Stop is stop and hold stop it clears as it should
Record is record and hold record removes previous phrase as it should
Now sometimes when I press record after playing a phrase it stays red on screen and the button led starts flashing instead of going green and to playback my loop
Thanks
Bought mine today. My first pedal. Can't wait to explore the possibilities and opportunities. Hope I don't get stuck.
I've had MANY loopers, three this year alone..... boss my favorite. I've purchased two RC-5 about a year apart. This second one seems to have a volume issue with the drum tracks being excessivly LOUD! since I never experienced the problem with the first RC-5 ..... I'm gluessing the second one might be damaged? I have tried finding a global volume control with no avail. I ran a factory reset twice, with no change. I hate to sell it and pass on the problem to someone else, I also hate to take a $175 dollar loss! Any thoughts?
When recording multiple loops can you go back and turn one of and on intermittently? Or once it’s recorded and playing is there no way to turn it off without turning all the loops off?
Can RC-500 import user rhythms in SMF format as RC-10R does?
which loop station is good for percussionist?
Nice demo. My question is, do you need a separate acoustic amp for the drums to play out of if playing out of an amp using the amps distortion. Obviously you don’t want tinny distorted drums sounding like your distorted guitar. I have an SR 18 drum machine going into a California blonde acoustic amp from my RC1 and my guitar going into a Katana 100 to separate the sounds.
Hey man, wondering the same thing, did you get an answer?? I’m looking at the Boss RC 10R… for a boss katana amp with its own distortion
The RC500 is recommended for vocals.... buuuuut there ARE two inputs on the RC-10R. I'm sure an input for a condenser mic is best quality, but has anyone popped a mic into one of the two RC-10R inputs?
I pop up a dynamic mic inside the rc500 but the very big problem went if you put reverb on effect in your loop you cannot adjust the amount of reverb in the mic it's completly link with the recording level and i have it alway too much for the mic. At least i send it back. I think maybe i will take the 505mk2 were all effects are totaly independant inside every track.
Super 👍
Is there high quality battery powered looper with a headphone output?
Is the BASS tone a built-in effect of LOOP?
Looping has been a feature of my playing since the early 1970s. I rarely use rhythmic phrases, preferring to make ambient loops as a part of my writing. These all seem to feature timed looping. I haven’t tried any of the Boss units to see if they play nice with my looping style. I’d appreciate any comments.
Is there a RC600 review anywhere in the near future?
Going to music store and buying a looper on my weekend from my job.
Thanks . Brilliant stuff. Can the RC500 do a drum rhythm outro like the RC10?
No it cannot + you can't stop rhythm only and keep the loop running on the rc500
Yes you can if you record the rythm in a track but don't remember how i do it 🤣😂👍
Its a shame the Boss RC500 doesn't have the same drum kits as the RC10-r.
does the rc-500 have guitar effects?
what the song during the R10 test ?
Great job☺️👍on rc 10 you can record 2tracks in series can you do same or rc500?happy new year☺️👍
U can set it to series mode :)
RC-15 should be the next looper from boss... same thing with 3 tracks and guitar effects (effects fromm 200er series: od and dd) + octaver/bass-sim inside
Do you need a separate speaker or amp to use the drum machine. Or can i just run it all through my tube amp
same amp/speaker combo your guitar is using
Now after this great review I narrowed down my selection between the New Ditto + and the Boss RC10? I like the drum kit of the latter for my solo practicing.
Thanks
I have the RC10R and use it daily for practice, jamming and recording, also on UA-cam.
The drums are really good but can get a little static if you play one style more than others. Cool thing is you can import your own drum patterns as well if you have them.
Also, if you add a footswitch or two is basically works like an RC500, minus the mic input.
@@laurieslockdownmusicroom1822 I play only the Blues genre. Can this pedal accomodates this? You mentioned I could download a rhythm on the pedal. Do they store on one of the 99 memory stations?
Thanks for your response
@@MegaAluchi yes the pedal has quite a few blues rhythms although one of the rhythms for blues has an out of time intro, apart from that they are all good.
If you import whole midi songs then yes they need to use a phrase. If it is just drums there is a User bank in the drum storage for about 10, i think would need to check how many!
can u make a vid on rc-50
Are they all glitchy and unusable like the RC500?
How long can you record one single rhythm track?
You can record 13 hours on two of the and 6 hours on one
How are you making it to where the drums don't sound distorted???? Cause my drums on my rc3 are always distorted when I use my gain on my amp
Drums don’t sound good on a guitar amp. The ideal blooper allows to separately send guitar signal to guitar amp and drums signal to PA or something. Or has a speaker simulation to send both to PA or Headphones. RC3 cannot do that afaik. I have the RC3 too… Cannot decide if I should upgrade and if yes which one to get. There is so much conflicting information about drum quality and userfriendliness. In this demo everything seems effortless and clear. But there are others that have trouble…
A and a solution for the gainy drums: Think the looper should go in the effects loop if available. So the drums won’t be distorted by the preamp…
If no effect loop available the amp has to be clean and you could use an overdrive pedal in front of the looper…
Same as you i buy a rc 500 and then send it back because it's not at all a user freindly menu. There are too many things to configure before recording. It's not at all you plug and play and record. Too many things that i do not like inside to be honnest. This new serie of looper boss are totaly a non sence for me. They are to complicate to use them as the old rc 3. It's really a pity it seems they do not give it to a guitarist and ask him how do you feel. Finaly i keep my old rc 3...
Great video man,now I know Exactly which one of these awesome Boss Looper Pedals I need. Boss has extensive musical products to help out the everyday musician...from professional to beginners. A nice Boss 10R w/ my Boss Katana MKII amp and acoustic/electric guitar 🎸 should put me well out on the pathways to musical success & happiness!!!! ( Maybe 1 day I'll have a successful UA-cam channel as well and being paid whether in cash or products, lol, myself!!!) Thanks again and good job!!!
How much is boss paying you?
Do you apply effects such as distortion in this setup? If so, do you use guitar pedals or simply the katana settings? I worry about accidentally applying distortion/unwanted effects to the drum sounds
Man I have the RC-3 and Im not even good enough to utilize all the features and Im considering buying the RC10R for all the drum rhythms 😂
Why not try the digitech trio+,,
Why no captions?
lo this guy was using an octave effect or something to get the bass sound. please show just the honest loop
Thanks for the review!
I have bought an RC10C and I`m getting along with it. But I can't find an application to change the rhythm from 4/4 to 3/4 or 6/8. How can I do that?
Maybe you can't?
Same sh!t whole song and left me hanging.
hey, i want to use something to record a my rhythm track on, loop that, then play lead guitar over the top in a separate amp. can the RC-5 do this? is it possible to record a loop, then output the loop to amp 1, while I play in a separate amp 2 - I see their are 2 outputs?
You can write the loop to a memory slot and then start it on amp 1.
Somebody i used to know
the video is confusing. Suggests is a multi track machine, bit it isn't. The two tracks are seperate!!!
