I've had the Ditto looper for a year now. That little box has done soo much for my timing and phrasing. Just sitting at home chilling and improvising! Best value gear I own!
Yeah I was specifically looking for a review of that pedal so clicked this, saw it on the table and sat through the whole thing. Love Andertons and I'm never upset listening to Pete play but feels bad man.
You can import drum loops into the NUX Loop Core Stereo as well. Sometimes they have to be converted, but NUX even offers free software for that one. Here in the US the Ditto+ is $159 and the LCS is $119, so I chose the NUX as I've fallen in love with several of their pedals and they're built really well. The built-in drums are great for just noodling around as well. Nice, quick video.
Amazingly well put together video in terms of how smoothly the two of you work together. I imagine it's far from easy, but you made it look a breeze. Bravo!
And it can import drum loops like the Ditto+. Might have been nice for them to mention that. It's what the USB is for. There's a ton of great loops out there, including bass and rhythm guitar if that's your thing.
I’m by no means a looper expert, but I own and use several of the popular ones (Boss, Ditto, etc.). I’m putting together a small board to hang out in my living room, and purchased a Lekato. If you’re looking for something simple and user-friendly, it is a SERIOUS competitor, especially when compared to the standard Ditto.
Thank you, gents, for this video. I've wanted to dabble more into looping as a new guitar player trying to better nail my timing down. You all are doing the lords work. 🎸
Nice video! I have the Boss RC-2 for a couple of years now and it's just fantastic! I use it for live, rehearsals and at home for practice and improvise! Very useful pedal!
Never really thought about a looper before. Thanks for this really useful intro to these pedals. I might give it a whirl, I’m a sucker for the one button option every time. Some pedals look like the control panel of the space shuttle.
I love to do a LIVE Looping performance when playing out on stage. It can add so much for the Audience when you are a One-Man-Band and trying to give the audience a taste of some of your Music. I've graduated to the Boss RC-600 after using the RC-500 for a while. What a difference this has added to my rig!
Thanks guys. I like using loopers but always struggle with the one button models. I'm forever putting them into overdub mode when I'm trying to stop them. It's like having a drunk uncle at a family gathering. He just keeps going on and on no matter what you do!
I own the Boss RC500, sold my Ditto Looper before. They are designed for different purposes for sure. My complaint with the Boss is the audio quality, it would seem that there is some kind of huge tone suck. As for the Ditto Looper, what I like is the simplicity and the cleanliness, the extremely low latency when switching and quality of the quality of the signal preserved. Amazing for such a small pedal.
I dont have a lot of friends who play guitar so my timing is off, the looper made it easier to to work out where to come in I do it for fun but its nice to look light I have an idea where to be
The best looper pedal is the one you currently own...provided you can get the timing down just right each time you press the switch. I'm still trying to nail the timing.
Hey guys you haven't mentioned the lekato looper pedal mini pedal, It's got a load of banks to save your loops on and it's got a tuner built in, I'm sorry for not being too technical but it cost me about £35 a few years back it's amazing, Lekato mini pedal
So glad I saw this. I purchased a Boss RC-5 ( used it 2x's ) and it has sat in the box & never touched. This convinced me to Sell It. I want Simple. Pete is always so great. oNe LovE from NYC
I was struggling to get my Boss looper to work as I wanted through the FX loop... I didn't realise I could put it in the front and still use a pedal to add grit when I want it🙈. I'll try that! Could be a game changer!
The Nux seems to be a great loop pedal almost looks like my Boss RC600 but for only one instrument. Nux really deserve a shout out. I also have the Boss RC2 , still not understand very well how it works but i'm keeping it may till i get or swap for a Boss RC1
Digitech Jamman Express - yes now discontinued but you can get them for £40 ish second hand. The Jamsync function is awesome. I have two and the vocal looper version too, all hooked up to the SDrum. Nearly impossible for the loop to go out of sync and I can layer different sounds and vocals.
"No body loops for five minutes..." - I beg to differ. Well, actually I wouldn't call what I do "looping"- I use my looper like I don't have a looper. In other words- I will record the whole song playing rhythm, then play it back so I can work on the lead or a bass line or whatever I want. I'm not recording the lead or bass line- that's not the point- it's just a way to work out song ideas when I don't have anyone here to play the rhythm for me. Or sometimes I will lay down a bass line and play rhythm and lead over that- because the band I play in only has one guitar player. But I rarely if ever play like a 2-3 bar loop- I guess I should- it would help me work on my timing- but I get frustrated and aggravated with it usually and just go back to what I know. It's not that I don't know when to hit the pedal- I know how to count and all that but- its executing that perfectly that's the issue- especially in the context of a live performance.
I totally get it. That is a large part of how i use a looper too. Its the most important piece of kit you can have if that sudden inspiration kicks off a full composition in your head that massively outweighs your ability to remember every part, every melody and my own personal nemesis, the time signature. By the time ive set up a new track on my DAW, found the right rythmn etc i have invariably lost that epic hit single forever. I feel like im writing Tenacious D's "Tribute" over and over!' From now on i can simply stomp n groove then stomp n groove again until the masterpiece is captured and preserved, ready to be properly recorded. Its a revelation the best little bit of gadgetry ever!!
I use it the same exact way as the OP. Actually, I thought that’s how you were supposed to use a looper! Lol No band, no problem, I got my Ditto! Lol I’m looking into these loopers that have drum tracks to play along with though.
I know it’s a primitive way of doing it but I lay down a drum beat on my electronic drum kit through my RC-1, then switch the cable into my guitar and start layering over it. Would love to check out a looper with a drum machine in it though.
I have a Boss RC 1 which I got earlier this year. Not sure if I’m getting the most from it - will need to find a video that demos that. The NUX looper looks great though!
These vids are really informative and quite inspiring - i keep meaning to get on with it and get looping but i still find the in/out timing a challenge!. It helps that pete has great loop ideas and musicality - keep these coming - it makes a change to just doing the demos (which are still great). Loved the old series where i think the captain was taking lessons from Pete and Ariel . - must look that up!
Yes, Pete, and in the U.S. we played the same silly PONG game on the family 20" color TV circa 1979-80. HA! OK, I'm convinced (by you two and by Nathan Smith at Yurt Rock) that I have to trade up to the Ditto PLUS looper! Thanks for the videos guys!
I have a ditto plus and its not just just a looper for me, I record riffs with it that I can put onto my computer. A friend of mine has a NUX pedal and he loves it too
Boss RC-1 is my choice of a simple looper. Somehow it's way easier for me to keep track of the tempo with the 'round' representation of the loop than flashing lights. I also switch the standard setting to one pusch=overdub and 2 steps = no overdub. + a fs5 pedal to go full stop and delete. Makes live-performances a breeze with a still pretty cheap pedal. Matter of taste of course. Some might like flashing lights more than the rather odd representation of the RC-pedals. And for those hesitating: Loopers are fun, yes! But it is also a very valuable tool to learn about scales and chord-progressions and test stuff.😉
You want it right at the end of the chain before the amp, makes sense. But what about these smart amps like positive grid, where the pedals and amp stage are happening at the same time? Is it possible to stick a loop pedal in a positive grid output, then back into its input?
Gosh I could actually watch your birth all day. Looping wonderful to your heart's content. Enjoying to have fun. It's a shame it's all over. Can't wait for the for the year year next one. I wonder when we're going to be having a looping marathon or and I said the wrong thing LOL. God bless
Good video. I've a question: is there a loop pedal which can chain different loops? I mean, recording a loop then create other loops and then chain them in a "larger" loop. Thanks.
Ditto stereo ended my search for simple loopers. As easy to use as the mini ditto without any of the mini pedal problems. Mini pedals not having more of a base to the pedal wobble too much on a board. They are great if you use a pedal switcher or it’s an always on kind of pedal. But not for a looper that requires precise stomps.
If you guys would like to do a tutorial on how to import WAV file to a Ditto+ you would have my undying gratitude. I’ve had one for two years and never managed it yet!
Hm, controllability has to be a priority here for accurate stops and starts. Just thinking the Boss style footswitch is gonna be more user friendly with its wider footprint.

Really useful I'm just looking for a looper to use on the move! None of them take a battery but a PP3 power lead soon takes care of that! Would be great to a comparison on the bigger ones.

Would like a video on ‘best value dual button looper (with drums)’. I have the Nux JTC drum loop pro but the drums and time signatures are very limited. Looking at the boss RC-10r. Nice stuff as always gents.
Instead of the ditto, I'd say shoutout the ditto plus. It is the only looper I know that has the overdub that extends... unless I'm missing something in the market - and it's the reason I upgraded the also great ditto in the first place.
I have the Nux the silver one with the accessory foot switch that has the stereo jack cable, would be great if you could demo how to use that foot switch function, really find it a bit confusing to use it properly.
The headphone of the loop core stereo is a great thing if you have an emulator, like the HX stomp: you are freeing a space. I should like a drumkit able to change rithm with PC.
been wanting to get a looper for years! thanks for another great video! and im going to do a search but just in case there is not, could you guys do a video on power bricks or whatever they are called for pedal boards? im a total noob and have no idea what i exactly need to plug in 5 pedals w/o have a separate power brick for each. i only have 1 pedal now, but want more, and i know i need a 'power thing' to do that. so a video on the 'best' one/how to set it up, stuff like that would be neat. thanks guys.

I have a Ditto-great bit of kit. Just came to watch Pete's playing an improv. Wonderful as always. Keep up the great work chaps!
You two blokes make an excellent team, and now I want a Ditto Looper!
Boss Rc-1 has been my standard for 2 years or so, fantastic build quality and very simple but not in a limiting way
You can’t go wrong with RC1. Love using mine
What do you think about the 16bit rate compared to the 24bit rate to Ditto

Can Pete please do an online “Loop” course….I”d gladly pay for that. Always impressed with his loops….
I needed this video and didn’t know it. I’ve been on the fence for a looper for quite a while now. Thanks fellas
i ended up with the digitech trio plus, as absurd as the price is I found the drum and basslines helped me improve a lot as a solo player.
That one is fun to use…. I like it for what it is.
According to NU>X the Loop Core Stereo does have a cab sim, so even better for silent practice at the end of the pedalboard through headphones.
