@7:35 First of all, you can. This doesn't replace the 10R, it is still available and I think even made by Roland / Boss. Secondly, you can add a lot of control to the 10R by plugging in a MIDI-controller. Or use the switches on an ES-8 controlling the 10R that way. In addition to the CTL 1 & 2 ports. It doesn't have to be a total nightmare, young padawan.

Beautiful review, thanks! (loved the explanation about the R suffix)
I have the beatbuddy mini 2, it took me some time to get used to do drum fills, since it's almost like playing another instrument while playing the guitar,
coordinating the time of doing the fill, it's not as intuitive as one might think,
but after getting it I can't imagine using a drum machine without a fill in option.
So at that price range, if I was to choose, it would be the rc 10r.

Love the videos, Ben. I bought an RC-10R and I wish I could figure out how to expand the drum rhythms (super tough to find just some plain ol' rockin drums). If you ever get bored and want to do a video on how I would go about importing my own midi files onto the machine, I would appreciate it. I was able to get a midi track onto the Rhythm Converter and onto the machine, but it wouldn't play properly. I also created a midi track in Reaper, but I am unsure if I set the track up properly for me to break it down on the Rhythm Converter. Any help would be great! Thanks

It’s easy to switch between trk1 and trk2 on the RC10R. You just hold down the rhythm switch and tap the loop switch to change tracks for editing. This makes the RC10R much more usable but sadly many UA-cam reviewers have not read the manual so fail to share this information with potential users.

I purchased the RC-10R a few days ago and delved deep into the settings and it's capabilities. I'm only a beginner, but do believe this fits in perfect for learning and encouraging children to learn as well. They have ironed out all the issues and memory is not a problem with mass storage options via the mini B USB port. As for looping vocals on the RC-10R, I don't see any problem if a small mixer is used into the inputs. You could have two loops, with voice or instrument, or both. For those that have seen year old videos of complaints of the RC-10R, I assure you it is all sorted and a definite good buy. Setting that were previously missing and complained about are also now in the new firmware. So yeah...

@@RiffLair Not had the chance to use it but wouldn't get rid of it due to it being a great practice tool with customisable rhythms. I primarily bought it for the children to grow into (it has metronome as well). But the music room has been packed up all this time. I'm hoping things will change and it will be used regularly.
I'm also interested in the Boss VE-22 despite having onboard effects on the mixer. Would be good if they combined the RC-10R with the VE-22.

I did watch your RC10r video, and have been considering both of these units. I love all the patterns and fills of the RC10, but also like the idea of the 500. They need to make a 500mkII and retain all the 280 patterns and fills so it can better fall in the middle between the RC10 and 600.

Hey man I saw someone using the rc500 using up the 1/4 inputs and cord but also finding a way to loop in extra audio from a daw.. usually I would send that audio through the auxiliary but I noticed that these pedals do not have an auxiliary..
My question is, is there another way to get audio in using the USB or Midi Jacks, taking the place of the auxiliary on the old unit?

  • @waynetoneseekerandersen2213

Hi Ben, I bought the 10r when it came out. It is a little finicky, but the drums are fantastic sounding in a live mix.
Do to expansion modules (master clock) needed and expansion buttons needed for control, do you recommend maybe using both in unison, or just upgrading to rc600. I am mostly interested in guitar oriented jamming, and songwriting. My system is midi capable and I use a mixer. I am willing to set up an online paid consult.

Hi Ben! I'm a loopers lover and right now I'm doubting between Singular Sound Aeros or RC-500. Of course I know they are completely different. But I have a doubt that does not let me sleep! does the RC-500 allow you to go from one slot to another (for example from 6 to 7, then from 7 to 8 and from 8 to 6) without pauses? in other words: can I mount a song on 5 different slots?
I also wonder: is it possible to change slots when you finish a loop and want to start another, without crouching to the ground? I mean, with your feet? (for example from slot 5 to 67)
I can currently do this with the Digitech JamMan, but it's not a very reliable live pedal ...
Thanks a lot in advance!! cheers from Barcelona :-) leo

0:32 to start off: a silly question since Matt from Boss has let known on Guitar Nerds has said that the RC-5 and RC-500 will replace the RC-3 and RC-30. Why isn't the RC-500 called the RC-50 then? Well, the RC-50 was introduced in 2006 and is replaced by the RC-300. Mayhaps or even probably there is an RC-1000 or such namingwise that will replace the RC-300.

Hi, great video! i have a situation. I own a TC Helicon Voice Live Play Acoustic that has an onboard looper but is only 1 track, limited time, etc. So I'm looking for an upgrade but I want to still use the VLP for the guitar and voice effects, so the looper station I choose needs to be able to receive the output of the VLP in 2 different channels. Can this be achieved in the RC-10R? I mean, A and B inputs can be used for different instruments in parallel? or they can only be used for either 1 mono input or 1 stereo input? Given my situation, what looper pedal would you recommend? Thanks!

  • @petrlang8398
    @petrlang8398 3 роки тому

Hello Ben, I'm just wondering ... stereo outputs are separable for L and R inputs. I mean you can go with electric guitar to input L, from output L to eletric guitar amp ... and with acoustic guitar to input R, from output R to acoustic guitar amp. Guitar sound won't be mixed in one amp. But question is ............ what mic and drums. Where does the sound of those go? Is it mixed to both amps? It is the problem of old Boos rc - 30. It is impossible to get acceptable sound of rhytmic section or voice if you use electric guitar amp. Thx for response :)

For me the 3 foot switches, track level sliders and the mic input make the rc500 the winner for me. I like the display of the rc10r but not enough to make me pick it over the rc500. I waiting for stock to come in near me so I can try it before I buy. Only because the experiences of others with the Rc10r was not meeting expectations, so no pre order for me. Boss is now a try before you buy company for me.

Random update on my looper saga. I finally took the plunge to replace my 20 year old boss RC20. I ended up deciding for the RC10R as I found my old FS-5U foot switches so could make it a 4 pedal looper. Plus, I really wanted the drum range as I am a live looping solo bass player, so having the drum grooves is really nice. The only thing I am missing is the loop rhythm sync, where I can record a loop and the pedal works out the tempo. My 20 year old RC20 could do it so how a modern RC10R cannot is beyond me.
Apart from that annoyance having the extra footswitches means I can run the RC10R just like a RC500 if I want or I can have a full drum part with it. For the lack of loop first rhythm sync I'm stretching myself to include my own percussion parts as a free loop using my Cajon during performances.
Also, with the extra footswitches I am happy to use the RC10R in live situations, which without the footswitches would be very difficult to pull off. I've configured my extra footswitches to change track and the other I flip between tap tempo and all break (where it stops the loops until the next measure, nice bit of musical suspense).... Anyway enough random UA-cam comment looper related dribble... Back to the video 🙃

  • @henqmusic
    @henqmusic Рік тому

I've been using the RC500 for several months now. Unfortunately, I'm discovering more and more bugs: 1) The display mode sometimes changes without reason from my favorite "2 track" display to "status + track" display, sometimes in the middle of a song. 2) When I record the first loop of track 2 (while the loop of track 1 is already running), it often cracks at the first transition from rec to play. All other overdubs are then smooth again and work without problems. 3) Sometimes the loops I recorded are suddenly not in sync when playing, means: the whole loop of track 2 plays slightly later than the loop of track 1. I've been using Boss Loop Stations for over 15 years, had the RC20XL and the RC30 before...never had any problems with either unit, they have been absolutely reliable. I'm currently very conflicted about the RC500. On the one hand, it has exactly the functions that I need. If they would work reliably, it would be perfect. But because of the bugs, it's totally unreliable. Especially for professional live use :/

can someone respond to this? I used the RC3. I seem to need the extra pedal to turn it off. Do you think the operation of the 2 pedal RC20xl is easier than the 1 pedal RC3 ? I'll take the RC20xl just for the 2 pedals. I think. anyone?

  • @MOAB-UT

My RC-500 has a longish (5 seconds or so) delay AFTER I hit STOP. I notice this behavior even more on longer loops. At first I think I missed the button or the looper is broken, but several seconds later, it finally stops. This really throws me off. Especially because the Drums/Rhythm keeps going. To be usable, it needs to STOP immediately.
I have about 10 other memories saved. Is it a buffer/memory issue? Do I need to update firmware? I have done resets in the past. I have it plugged into a 300ma supply. Do I need to upgrade the PSU? Otherwise I really love the Looper. Has anyone else experienced this and found a fix? If my loop is very short, say 5 seconds, it STOPS immediately. Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks all!

Also added more modern sounding drums as well. The drum sounds in this device sound like the DR Rhythm 880 to me, which is like 20 years old. If you look up that machines demos you will see what I mean. I appreciate being able to upload my own midi data, but I'm still stuck with sucky drum sounds.

Thanks for the video. I've been looking for a new looper to replace my RC30. I picked up a Headrush Looperboard but had nothing but problems with it, so wound up returning it.
Neither of these appear to have enough of a reason for me to upgrade my RC30 though.

Same! That’s what has drawn me to these videos. The RC-500 is an upgrade over the RC-30 in terms of everything except battery life, where it takes a huge nosedive.

I don't even care about fills. It's a nice thing but really it's the endings. I hate fade outs. It's so overdone. But ending a song with a looper is just, how? So, to me, I'm leaning toward the 10R. That's probably what you need if you want to save loops for a live show, play it back and just do the song one man band style. And 6 hours seems like plenty. Btw, I like how fast you talk. I'm getting a lot of info in a short amount of time.

my pic is the year 2000 and im playing in a gig up snowdon mountain.what you carnt see is im playing the keyboards with my feet,my brother wierd up 23 switches to a footboard i made,so i could be a band on my own and "live" i even had a digitech vocalist,so i could even do songs like "a hard days night" beatles (try that on your own lol) i came from a time if we wanted to know how to play a song we worked it out from the record, and invented ways to get more in ourselves,,,so you lucky people buy one of these ..and good luck we always advance so ill see you at the stars..stu

Why did Boss make a great new unit and take away all the intro, fill, drum endigs.its a deal breaker for me. They should of made a RC500R

    • @hockeyman2274

I don't get why Boss didn't call these the RC-4 and RC-40, then the top one could be named RC-400. But maybe to not confuse the RC-40 with JC-40 Jazz Chorus. Japanese. Who knows?
