This is a nice complement to mining tutorials. This does not talk about mining but shows how to mine. It would also have been nice to see the build you were using so I could see what is different than my build. I don't have an Anaconda for mining, but I have thought bout it, even a Federal Corvette.
Uncut videos where you know what you are doing and are just showing your process, are the best kinds - no voiceover, no OpenSource music, no wacky transitions ; just you , the game , and an audience in agreement as to why this game is so much fun. Thanks for making this video, good stuff!
Laser mining was the very first high profit activity I did in the game. I totally agree, laser mining was like going into a meditation session. Paring this with some ambient music is great. Now I can stack 50 mil surface rescue missions in my engineered Cutter that was paid for by laser mining!
Uncut gameplay is honestly great and should be the standard recording for games. That way future players can get a real look at what they are getting themselves into. Watching tutorials about gathering things needed to upgrade ships, and they don't tell you that it will take literal days of just traveling to get everywhere you need to go. I don't mind the travel and explorations, but holy cow, 240LY is a lot for a ship that can jump a max of 13LY. Just started playing about a week ago by the way, just bought a Cobra mk3.
Long gameplay?! I want a real time flight to Beagle Point in a fully outfitted mining ship, fill it's hull with rocks somewhere near there, then fly back - all in real time. That would be a long video I'd watch :P
I have a Cutter set up for laser mining. It has 7 mining lasers and 12 limpets. It can deplete any rock before the distributor runs out. It has just over 500 cargo as well but it is not set up for hazrez mining. I mine at a spot about 1000ly from the bubble so there are no pirates to deal with. I find it to be very peaceful and relaxing. I made the money for my carrier with an anaconda set up for core mining back when Void Opals were worth 1.6 million apiece. It does take time but the act of mining is a great escape from the BS life hands out on a daily basis.
I got my first conda during the painite gold-rush. I used a laser python to get a laser anaconda and then that anaconda paid for and built my first 20 ships. I painite was like 500,000cr/T back then.
Some small advice here: 1. The Cutter is your mining friend. Get one and set yourself up. 2. Powerplant should be modded for "armored" with thermal spread and you won't gain heat. 3. There are double (and triple) platinum hotspots where average asteroids are ~60% and they're close to the bubble, as in, you can jump to them with your ship, no carrier necessary. 4. Get a carrier if you havent already. You can maximize your profits by loading it up and jumping THAT to the high profit stations. While i get mining is the zen moment, you can seriously up your profits *AND* have some relaxation.
I like how you call a 22:43 min video longplay. x) That is not longplay, your video needs to be over 1.4h to be a longplay video. This video was just right and i really liked it. :)
I use a type 9 with a full complement of engineered mining lasers. Can fire forever without overheating or running out of power with one pip short in weapons. 512k tons of space, plat only. Takes me about an hour to clear 400 tons. But I'm running out of my carrier in parrot's head at a triple overlap. Wanted to add that I still make more money per hour running Robigo/Sothis.
Hey good video! I like the long form vids, but either way is cool😅 I like your 30% rule, saves a lot of time for sure, especially in good quality rings. I use Vette for laser mining, and for the longest time if I got too close to asteroid (you want to get close as possible as mining lasers have damage fall off like regular weapons) the fragments would bounce off the hood because they would spawn off of one of lasers on a class 4 hardpoint or class 2, I discovered that if you run a separate fire group for the lasers, all of them on "1" except put the class 3 hardpoint on "2", when starting to mine an asteroid fire "1" lasers slightly before the class 3 on fire trigger "2", then the fragments will spawn off of the last laser fired (class 3 on bottom of ship), allowing me to get right next to the asteroid thus speeding up the collection process greatly 🤫 07
For mining like this I use a Cutter with: 2 size 2 Mining Lasers, 4 size 5 Collelctor Limpet controllers, 1 size 3 Prospector Limpet controller and 2 size 8 cargo racks (512 ton capacity). Even just using 2 size 2 mining lasers they are more than enough to keep a dozen collector limpets busy. I have 4 fire groups set up as well: 1 - combat - I have enough weaponry and shields to fend off most everything (multiple high rank enemies are difficult though) 2 - prospecting (prospector limpet controller and 1 mining laser) instead of firing limpets into every asteroid I fly by and use the 1 laser to break off a piece to see its composition. Just using 1 laser leaves a larger amount to mine. 3 - mining (limpet controllers and mining lasers) 4 - scanning (surface and discovery scanners)
I'm impressed! very impressed.. . . . my only question is what size collector limpets are you using? - (By the way I subscribed after I saw how efficiently you mined the first asteroid) I loved the way you said "This isn't a tutorial, I'm just showing the way I play!" That's awesome...
Laser mining would be great if we had some mothership to fly just above mass lock, That way almost any ship could be mining one. Big mothership with 3-5k capacity would allow us to carry more limpets, and go quickly back to it, deposit ore, and go back to the field without the need to go back to station and sell stuff when we reach that max cap. Limpet controllers with higher max amount of limpets would also help. And ofc mothership would be great way to afk farm bounties just hop in, set all these cannons up and wait till some butt pirates try to attack you. They could even add higher lvl hazard zones where you can hit pirate motherships for nice bounties.
Got a Cutter for mining, no prospectors, just 19 limpets at the same time and 7 long range mining lasers from Community Goal (15T of Osmium each). Just drift at 22-23 m/s and shoot at any rock before it is depleted. Around 300T/hour of Platinum, Osmium, Gold, Silver and Palladium. Defy the basics of laser mining! xD
I love me some mining! My mining conda is setup for a quick session like this (only around 200 cargo) 5 double engineered class 1 and 3 class 2 mining lasers (fully engineered distro to power them) 16 collectors, 3 prospectors and a 4a prismatic shield... it mines really fast! I tend to mine in Wregoe TA-E d12-25 - triple overlap and it's always quite empty as it's around 400 LY out of the bubble... but that's only 1 FC jump ;) re: growth etc. it will come. Elite is quite focused on the new ships at the moment. The clues from the reveal (hinting at it being combat capable) will make that a powerhouse for mining IMO! (cargo + combat have all the ingredients of a great mining ship!)
You get 4 limpets on a Multi-controller slotted. I use a T10. 2 med mining lasers fired at the axis of the roid, and 1 laser touches last to direct the chunks down like a conveyor belt to the hatch.

So if I understand correctly the main goal is to have some relaxing off-time? Damn, I wish I had that patience. ED always feels like work for me. I was planning on taking some time-off from ED, but maybe I will try some mining in the future. Had some core-mining experience with a Python on my way to the carrier. That's the beauty of this game. There's no one "correct" or "wrong" way to play it. Even in mining, I know there are better ways to do this and make even more credits. But for me, making more money is not the goal. I once went down that road and got burned out very quickly
