    Reading the comments below. How can Sydney grow much more ? Travelling into Sydney`s CBD can be a nightmare 80% of the time. Looking at 50 to 100 years in the future ,what alternative is there . I am proud this time our planners have demonstrated constructive vision. Sure there will be hiccups and oversights on the way ,but gee all those will be worked out in time. A big thank you to you and other drone pilots for allowing us to see history in the makings, may be your name will be recorded the State or Countries Archives .

      Yes, Sydney can grow much more. The Cumberland Plains are extensive and can sustain multiple decades of growth, looking at the video you can see open plains as far as the eye can see. Greater West Sydney and South West Sydney is currently going thru a transition from rural farming to industrial and housing developments, this will become an important area of expansion relieving the pressures of the Inner West North West and South West providing alternative industrial and housing alternatives.

    Elevated section looking impressive now, hopefully they give some update on the Siemens rolling stock they'll be using, not long to go now!

    Why elevated? Is this on a flood plain or did the farm not want his movements restricted?

      They did studies 25+ years ago, it was estimated the whole airport area had to be raised by about 3 metres to avoid flooding

    Why didn't they finish the North Wext Metro from Talawong to St Marys? The existing Western rail line can not handle any more passengers. It is already overloaded.

      @@Epic3032 I went to the Orchard Hills station open day in late October. I got the impression that the new rail line won't open until after the airport is completed.There appears to be too much work to do and when testing the line is added in, it probably won't be in service until sometime in 2027.

    not sure I see the point of this metro through the countryside froma heavy rail line, how many people will actualy choose to get the train from parramatta to St Marys and then change to go to the airport? If it had been joined with tallawong or gone from parramatta to the airport as an extension of metro west them maybe it would have been a winner but this seesm very ill though

      It is on the drawing boards for a new Metro from Westmead direct to WSI in a new direction . It will be nowhere near St Mary`s or Blacktown.

    @robertstaas9314 Місяць тому +1

    What about getting to the airport from anywhere else? I don’t want to go to Sydney via St. Mary’s. who thought this up?

    • @ronvorbach1464
      @ronvorbach1464 Місяць тому +2

      There will be several express bus services as well ,one being Liverpool. Just think, all of us who reside out this way have always been experiencing your issue and now we appear to have what is suitable to us.

      @colindobson4045  Місяць тому +1

      Yes your not the only person who has said the same thing however I just heard on the radio maybe they might build the metro from Parramatta to western Sydney Airport and hopefully extend the leppington line to the new Bradfield station because it's only about 1.3kms away we will see 🤔

    the most importan question: at what speed? and how long to city centre

    • @Robert-um6fr
      @Robert-um6fr Місяць тому +4

      It will cover St Mary's to the airport station in 15 minutes, every 10 minutes, through a mix of 100 kmh in tunnels and 110 kmh on ground and viaduct. Remember the airport itself is designed to serve western Sydney's 2.6 million population (and growing) rather than the eastern half of greater Sydney. So add another 9 minutes on the T1 to Penrith, 15 minutes to Blacktown, and 28 minutes to Parramatta via all-stops trains. There's an evaluation underway into potentially running an InterCity fleet shuttle as an RER-style limited express every 10 minutes between Penrith and Central, which would dramatically cut the travel times across Sydney. (Just need to sort out the intercity track "throat" around Redfern into Central). As the airport slowly grows, the airport will get faster connections to Liverpool and Campbelltown and then M1 will extend to its new terminus at St Mary's. This airport's forecast passenger volume will start small and it's amazing it will open with any railway at all.

    • @colindobson4045
      @colindobson4045  Місяць тому +1

      To be honest I wouldn't know what speed the train would be however I would say probably around 80kms an hour about same as Sydney trains in urban areas metro trains have a top speed of 100kms an hour and apparently Sydney trains have a top speed of 130kms an hour however that type of speed would be realistic cheers col 👍

    • @Robert-um6fr

      it's an infill station, deliberately designed to grow into the centre of a new suburb over 5-10 years.

    • @ronvorbach1464

      Once upon a time Mascot was considered a trip to the country side, who would ever want to live there ? Hence Kingsford Smith choose the location for his first historic flight and thus now just over 100 years later . We will never know what they will be saying about this by then overcrowded area .Except for Archive records all who design, built and recorded all this will be forgotten .

      It's put there to serve a future major residential suburb. Same as the Orchard Hills station, which will be a future commercial centre. That's much smarter planning than putting the line in 50 years after an area has been developed and finding you can't easily or cheaply run a line through sprawl (looking at you, Hills District).
