Trek to Yomi is a brief but captivating journey that's like playing through a monochromatic Japanese movie, and that excellent presentation is enough to carry it even though it falls short in most other respects, including combat that is one-note and easily mastered.

Am playing it right now. The atmosphere is literally enough to play the game. The rest of the game is decent imo, but it's the presentation that has me hooked.
Yeah that’s what caught my eye, the style of the game is cool enough and it was free on the store had to try it out lol.

My biggest issue is that parrys don't always seem to register or the animation lags out and becomes confusing. Especially with the enemy thrust attacks. The parrys also dont have any impact. Also, there should've been a switch position move to use on groups of enemies.
There is a switch direction function..
For some reason the sound and some subtitles just stop working

Actually grain and sparkle are different. Grain is the fuzzy texture that appears on all film reels. Sparkle are the bigger white specs of dust and rubbish that sometimes appear on old movie reels. This game has both.
Finished it today. If this game had the combat of 'Nine Monkeys of Shaolin' it could have been a 9/10

@@stickydude8921 It definitely is actually. I’ve discovered a lot of games I’ve enjoyed in between major releases you’re likely referring to as “mediocre indie games” only because I’ve had GamePass.
And then you have games considered by the vast majority to be excellent, such as Streets of Rage 4, Halo Infinite, both Ori games, State of Decay 1 & 2, the Gears of War series, and Psychnauts 1 & 2.

Whats gamepass
My biggest issue with this game is the fact that Devolver's previous games, particularly Absolver and Sifu, had absolutely precise controls and smooth animations. In a game centred around combat this is essential, but in Yomi it is easily the weakest aspect. The game looks amazing, no doubt, but sadly doesn't play as well.
Sifu and Absolver were made by Sloclap, not Devolver.
Devolver is a publisher!!!
@@Gamer-cz8mo whatever. Point is the game is quite underwhelming. If you want smooth combat you can play Sifu, or to a lesser extent Absolver. If you want amazingly deep sword combat AND the Kurosawa inspired visuals, then you've got Ghost of Tsushima. It's more expensive, but is also 1,000% more game.

Tried it on Gamepass to be sure first and enjoyed it then bought it for PS5. It's not gonna be a GOTY winner but it's simple fun and pretty cheap for what you get

Im on chapter 5 boss and at the start of the fight my guy freezes for a second and can only switch directions , thats enough time for me to get hit. Doesnt always happen but does with most respawns.
Edit: okay after typing this now my guy freezes for most of the fight.

This game sort of reminds me of Omimshia: Warlords for playstation 2 but only in black and white. Im really enjoying this game.👍👍👍❤❤❤

the protagonist and the bad guys all have the same scream when they get hit . could have used a different voice actor there . great looking game with okay gameplay

Reviewer totally missed the point of the stylistic approach the design of the game is putting across that makes the combat being repetitive a throwback to 80’s/90’s side scrollers, that’s IGN for you.

Giant map with tons of variations, great crossovers, everything is destructible, great controls, an innovative building mechanic and tons of modes. Should’ve been 10/10
Fortnite is one of the most played games worldwide, don't personally play it but any game that has that many players is probably worth a 9
