Sifu Review

- Sifu is utterly uncompromising in its design, and that's a sword that cuts both ways. It's brutal learning curve and unique structure that demands you beat it in just one lifetime both loom as great barriers to overcome, but on the other side them is one of the best modern action games around.

An actual detailed review that sounds like they actually took their time with the game, it’s a miracle
People say this on almost every single damn IGN video, like the video before it didn’t also have someone commenting the exact same thing.
To be fair to IGN, most games aren’t only a few hours long. The reason most reviews are just ok is because they gotta binge a 30 hour game in a single week, maybe even only a few days. Doesn’t allow for a lot of in depth Analyst unlike a short game in that same time span
In an era were gaming is dead, I’m actually impressed.

rogue like's have become super over-used as a game extender that fail to correlate with game's themes or core tenants. It is always pleasant to see a game that makes the rogue-like element thematically salient. Will buy this on release instantly.

Fun fact: in sifu when you pick up a staff and it breaks until it’s short, it becomes a bat like weapon. Making it have the same finishers as the bat weapon and pipe. Insane attention to detail
@John Wick you need to get weapon mastery so it can last longer.

*...Hey hey, where are all my PS Plus chads at??* 😏🗿
The hand-to-hand combat in this game feels so nice and powerful. Keeps me coming back.
Sifu's system reminds me more of something like a Tony Hawk level than a Roguelike level. The fun is in absolutely mastering it on repeated playthroughs, and the gameplay is so fun that you don't need loot or randomization to make that part really, really fun.
The difference is in stakes. No matter how many times you fail to complete a challenge or challenges in THPS, it doesn't reset your progress. You still have your stat points and previously completed goals. You still have the same level unlocks. This game punishes you with impunity at increasingly high stakes, i.e., roguelike.
Very impressive and fair review. It is refreshing seeing reviews like these.
The reviewer forgot to mention that the enemy ai is also super smart. Low level enemies will sometimes level up after parrying your attacks and then they will gain abilities like picking up weapons you’ve dropped and beating you to death with it lol.
Not to mention, sometimes they will go past your takedown and become more powerful. Meaning they dodge or block more and become a bit more annoying to deal with.
Seeing the calbot move return from absolver was lovely to see
One of the rare times where the game review score truly matches the game's quality. Mitchell Saltzmann is definitely one the best reviewers in IGN and this review is yet another showcase of that.
As someone who's sunk in nearly 100 hours into Sifu at this point, Mitchell's review seems to be the best one that really understands the game's vision and what it really is.

That last scene in the video is a wonderful tribute to the movie Old Boy, which has one of the best fight scenes in cinema history.
Was not expecting so many great reviews for this game wow. Time to buy, and it’s perfectly priced too.
Was it worth it??
That Oldboy fight reference at the end!!
Just to clarify, the game is amazing but be aware that there are some game breaking bugs. For me, there were some areas that don’t load in the map textures and the cutscenes would not occur.
An example would be in the boss area of the squats (level 1) which would not load properly and textures would be missing.
Where/when exactly? I’m 14 hours in and all the way to the 4th boss without experiencing any of that…
Love the homage to the "oldboy" fight scene around 9:45

AAA games have turned so many gamers into addicts on ease and a lack of difficulty and skill, making so many afraid to tackle the challenge that older games used to produce. Sifu taking the classic beat-em up repetition is so refreshing!!!!

The death system was portrayed as a double edged sword but it honestly just sounds really cool and seems like it puts more pressure on every single fight.
Also, what about haptic feedback on ps5?
Your health decreases but your strength increases. So your enemies could potential die faster.
Here for ps plus march 2024🎉
Was hoping for a much longer story, but seems more like something that you'd pick up and finish in a day or two.
Sloclap isn't really known for their in-depth story telling. Their gameplay is always where it's at. Which is why they focus on their strong points and build the game around the combat instead of the story. It's more akin to classic games, where they weren't all that long, but you'd always come back to play them because they were fun and challenging.
