This is the Luther Vandross I like and would like to remember as my favorite singer of all-time. I really wish he had stayed and looked like this and never gain back the weight.
"Never Too Much" is the debut song written, composed, produced, and performed by Luther Vandross. The R&B song was released in 1981, as the lead single from Vandross's debut album of the same name. The title track hit number one on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, reached number four on the US Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. The album (Vandross' first as a solo artist) was very popular, especially with Black Radio and R&B Charts. It received several accolades, including two Grammy Award nominations in 1982-"Best New Artist" and "Best R&B Vocal Performance, Male". The bass player on this album was Marcus Miller. "Never Too Much" was ranked number 466 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time in September 2021
Love the way Luther constantly looks around at the audience and constantly smiles!!. Makes it feel like he's look at every woman in the crowd, great voice, thoroughly missed. R.I.P Luther Vandross x
Soul Music at it's finest...Only this man can do anything with that magical voice of his!! There is never gonna be another Luther Vandross on this planet because no one comes close to the greatness that only Luther himself has ...he'll be greatly missed !!
Every time I come across anything Luther I stop and pay homage! The man was so incredible, and it pains me to to say it in past tense. His cadence and command flowed effortlessly when he opened his mouth to give us that timeless music. No one will ever do what he did vocally ever again.
❤ ❤❤❤ ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Luther Vandross one of a kind ! There will never!!!!!! ever be another you ! I listen to his music 🎶 All The TIME !! ❤️❤️ I also play Luther on my UA-cam channel !!!! ❤ Love this song 🎶
@princesskaideka -- yes, the words are awesome, too! I think this is from 'Da Mi Besia Milia' a poem by Catullus written in ancient Rome around the time of Julius Caesar. Only Luther could dig that deep!
Was only one of his original BG singers here? I didn’t see a close up shot, but the guy doesn’t look like Kevin, and the lady doesn’t look like Ava or Alfa.🤔
@Brother Love I know what you mean, the tempo is not as fast as the album. This slow tempo is the tempo that Luther used on his live performances. Watch "Never Too Much" at Wembley in 1987 and 1989 (I was lucky to be at both) which are also here on UA-cam - they are just as slow.
Love And Miss This Man So So Much Luther Vandross The Greatest Vocalist Of All Time...I'm Trying My Best To Keep His Legacy Alive So When U Guys Get A Chance Right Here On UA-cam Please Check Out My Tribute To Luther Vandross Jon Jon Never Too Much Please Let Me Know What U Think About It...Fam Fa'Life One Love Fa'Sho.
He was not fucken sick! Stop assuming shit! He lost weight! Damn this was early 90s.. He stroke around 2003 and die in 2005 cuz he didn’t fully recover from his stroke!
Im sorry to be the one to tell you but when he lost all that weight , seems to me some of his Rich mellow tone went away thats just my opinion Some people just don't look good skinny and unless its for health reasons i think he lost too much weight just my opinion
Mattie Anti , 100% agree. I sing this song as well & it is breathy as hell. For some reason that 1st verse always pushes me. By "Woke up today..." I'm in a groove or maybe those lyrics, cadence come easier w/ the faster tempo. I prefer this speed... even as a spectator. With the Tonite Show, he is being introduced to an entirely different (non-R&B) audience unfamiliar w/ his work. That in mind, the slower tempo helps the viewer "listen" to the lyrics of the wonderful story in this song. In general, as a huge FAN, I sit here tonight marveling at the sheer skill, talent, blessing that is Luther Vandross's vocals. He knew his voice so intimately... a live performance is like attending a Master Class for vocalist. He was also an incredible writer, arranger, producer, background vocalist/arranger. He truly was a force of nature that left us a rich legacy of music to enjoy & remind us of his gift. Since they brought up his weight in the interview... Here he looks gr8 (at this weight), happy & lighthearted. I love seeing him this way. At times he has looked gaunt & not so healthy after extreme weight loss. Big or small, I love Luther... for life!
Love, love this man!! His performances were nothing short of sheer perfection. Miss you Luther❤️

@@shonmosley4215 no it wasn’t it was completely necessary, refusing to acknowledge his sexuality is worse than that.

Luther wonderfully sings the greatest love song of all time, then Jay Leno only asks him about his weight loss. Maddening though
How you could?..you'r like 15
I don't like skinny Luther. I like Big Lufer, LOL.
I guess, he was sick already,

Stop hating!
Don't like it this slow.
Agreed! Feels like the groove is dragging along a bit.
This tempo is way too slow.
It's a different version.
