Meralgia Paresthetica Soft Tissue Release | TFL and Psoas Chiropractic Treatment

- I'll show you how I perform soft tissue release on the tensor fasciae latae (TFL) and Psoas muscles for Meralgia Paresthetica treatment. Typically some SMT to the lumbopelvic area is an appropriate adjunct treatment as well as Lateral Femoral Cutaneous Nerve flossing, tensioning, gliding, hip stretching, and pelvic stability exercises. If you're suffering from Meralgia Paresthetica, know that 90% of cases will resolve with conservative (think chiropractic) care! Many cases of MP will probably resolve with home exercises, which you can find in our video linked at the end of this one :)
This video was meant to show you a little bit of the treatment I perform in the office for this condition. You can check out our channel for SMT and exercises if you're curious what those look like as well. One of the easiest things you can do to help decompress the Lateral Femoral Cutaneous Nerve is to loosen your waist or belt and stand up! Meralgia Paresthetica is a nerve entrapment or compression problem. Those couple of things can help eliminate outside factors that are creating a compressive environment.
If you want to read more about Meralgia Paresthetica, Lateral Femoral Cutaneous Nerve pain, and read my 3 part blog series where I answer all your questions, you can do that here - www.jasonwilliamschiro.com/ca...

If you want to skip to a specific soft tissue release to see how I perform it, I break the video into chapters here:

00:58 - TFL muscle Release
01:37 - Psoas Muscle Release
Thank you for another life-saving video Doc!

Glad it was helpful!
I had this since last year and didn't sleep much. Thanks for this video.
Hope it was helpful! I wish you the best of luck in your recovery and hope you're able to get some sleep!
Did you get rid of it?

you r amazing
Hope you found it helpful and thanks for watching!
Classic. The girl is giggling. Good videos bro.
Thanks for checking out our channel!
I use a hard knobby ball that I put under my pinched femoral nerve to cut off the nerve pain signal. It hurts like a bugger at first, but, if you do it long enough...it gives me temporary pinched nerve pain relief.
I'm glad to hear you've found something that helps a bit, at least!
@@JasonWilliamsDC-Chiro-Rehab Does that massage gun work well? Which one do you use?
@@symbologee It's awesome. I use it personally daily and my patients like it as well. It's a HyperVolt. I like it because its reliable and they support evidence-based chiropractors like myself.
Hi doc, I've had these burning, tingly, painful sensations on my front and side thigh for 3 weeks now, reading up on it, I think it was my 5 hr drive I did. I've been doing these exercises since then but it feels like I dont get at least alittle better. Sometimes it feels abit more painful. Is it normal to have little success in the beginning? I guess it depends how bad the nerve compression is? I'm in constant pain sadly and getting desperate for any help :( thanks for the video.
I'm sorry to hear that. I can't really give you any specific advice since you're not a patient, but it typically really helpful to find a chiropractor or PT who's familiar with this condition and can help you overcome it. Best of luck!
Doctor I drive school bus should I use a pillow in the driver seat and where should I position it? Thank you. I have had this for several years.
I can't give you any specific medical advice since you're not a patient. It may be best to attempt trial and error. I would guess the best position would be underneath the thigh to relieve tension on the LFCN. Best of luck, hope you feel better!
Hi doc I'm getting excruciating pain in my right leg below the knee joint. It's been 3 months comes n goes...swimming,yoga helps. But returns the moment I stop.
MP is a condition that typically bothersome in the front of the hip and thigh, as well as the side. Furthermore, it's typically bothersome in the upper half of the thigh. If a patient presented to my office with pain below the knee, MP would be low on my differential diagnosis list. Radiculopathy or knee problems are typically more likely to cause pain below the knee. I always suggest seeing a chiropractor and getting an exam and diagnosis so you know the best way forward as far as treatment. Best of luck and thanks for checking out my channel!
Hi doc I have no since in right leg side .and it's painful know .I doing excise but it's not work what to do
Sounds like it's time to seek some professional help from a Chiro for further treatment. I wish you the best of luck!
Pain radiating from rectus femoris and/or femoral thru until bigtoe
Please advise
I would suspect femoral nerve and/or peroneal nerve involvement based on that tiny bit of info, but that's just a guess.
@@JasonWilliamsDC-Chiro-Rehab Thanks Duke, today I checked up with ortho too
Please text exact utube adress for exercise ✨
How long will it take to resolve this issue?
That's a great question. Honestly, it probably depends on how long it's been present, the cause, lifestyle factors, if someone is getting treatment, and other factors. It's a difficult questions for me to answer, especially for someone who's not a patient. Best of luck and thanks for checking out our channel!
Hi doc,
Is it normal that the maralgia pain migrate further to the testicle?
It would not be "typical" of MP presentation for that to happen. I would be suspicious of alternative diagnosis and make sure I investigated those if that presentation showed in my office.
Hi, thank u very much, I am in pain in my upper thigh....pls help
If it's MP that's bothering you these exercises are designed to help with that. I always recommend seeing a chiropractor or PT who's skilled with evaluating and treating hip complaints to get a good exam and treatment plan to solve the problem. Best of luck!
Is it normal that the pain from Meralgia Paresthetica can migrate further down into the knee?
Typically it will be bothersome in the superior and anterior thigh. If it's bothersome further down the thigh, it would raise my suspicion of a femoral nerve issue. It really depends on what else I find in the exam and other supporting historical information I get from the patient. Best of luck and thanks for checking out our channel!
@@JasonWilliamsDC-Chiro-Rehab Thank you for the quick response. My husband FINALLY got in to see a Dr to get it checked out after a night of feeling nauseous due to pain.
@@muslcemojo Hoping he gets feeling better ASAP!
what are the home exercises please?
There is another video where I cover the home exercises I give for this condition.
What is that tool that you're using?
It's a percussion tool called a Hypervolt.
good review Jason

I appreciate it Doc!
Awsome
Thanks, hope it was helpful!
I have herniated and bulging discs and severe spinal stenosis. Just developed this maralgia stuff recently and it makes me want to cry so bad 😭. I cant sleep and have severlty limited my activity to keep the pain down. Cant they just cut out this nerve?
I'm really sorry to hear that and truly wish you the best getting over it. I know it can be frustrating. As far as I know "cutting out the nerve" is not a treatment option.
@@JasonWilliamsDC-Chiro-Rehab you're so kind to respond. I know I can't keep living this way I can't exercise or be on my feet too long. Could always be worse I know it could always be worse tho. Thank you so much for all that you do!
Of course! Keep your head up. I always advise my patients to keep trying treatments and giving 100% effort into their rehab until they find what works.
Where is your clinic located
Our chiropractic and rehab practice is located in Cary, NC. Right outside of Raleigh. Thanks for watching and best of luck in your recovery!
Do you have piriformis exercises?
I may have some, you can feel free to search my channel. I'll look into it and if I don't I'll go ahead and make a few videos on how I diagnose piriformis issues, how I treat them, and some exercises that are typically helpful!. Thanks for watching and giving me an on some new videos to create!
Can fat lumps sitting on the femoral nerve cause severe pain along the front of my thigh?
I guess I'm not sure. If they put mechanical compression over the sensory nerves I would guess that they could. Hope you get it figured out soon!
Where is your office located.
I practice in Dumfries, VA at Sentara Therapy Center.
Where r u located
Cary, NC.
Does the numbness ever stop ?
In most folks meralgia paresthetica will resolve with conservative care, like chiropractic care and rehab. I hope you're able to find some help and get back to feeling yourself ASAP!
I've had this for over 30 years...it affects you to the point of wanting to rip out your femoral nerve. I've never found the cure for this.
I hope you've found something that helps. It can be a long process, unfortunately, for some to find treatment that really helps. I always recommend exercises with consistency and also getting multiple opinions. Best of luck and thanks for watching!
@@JasonWilliamsDC-Chiro-Rehab I fell out of a three story building window in the middle of a frozen -20 Montana winter on an ice covered cement slab. Left leg absorbed most of the impact. I blew out a few discs from that foolish fall. A chunk broke off of my vertebrae. I had a discectomy done. I refused the fusion option. I'll live with it for the rest of my days. Neuropathy, meralgia paresthetica, blown out discs...I don't wish that on my enemy. It took decades to even find what the heck I even had. Most chiropractors claimed it was just sciatica. I get sciatica here and there...but, not constantly. My pinched nerve wasn't the same location as sciatica was. I had to research it on my own to discover it. It seems like your practice is a lot more advanced than most are. I wish that you were in my area...I'd definitely check you out!
@@symbologee I appreciate the recognition. Science has come a long way with regards to back pain in the last 20 years and there is an abundance of highly educated chiropractors that are great at diagnosing, treating, and helping people recover. You just have to find them. I always suggest checking out forwardthinkingchiro.com and searching for a provider there. If you're in Montana there may not be a lot of them available through that website but it doesn't hurt to check. I have a buddy who practices is Hardin, MT who's great.
How long it takes for MP to cure with proper Physiotherapy??
@@sekharnc740 That's really not a question that has a general answer, unfortunately. Sometimes people may recover quickly whereas chronic cases may take longer. Best of luck!
