Thanks for the review, in particular the comparison of the old to the new. I have the old style and was contemplating if I need to upgrade to the new guide. I think the substantial reduction in the width of the cut on the new guide is a killer for me.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Great tutorial. I used the tool for the first time yesterday to build a picnic table. I fumbled around a bit, found your video, and can’t wait to give it another go as I tackle building benches for the table. Thanks!
I'm not at all sure about making 45 degree cuts both ways. The support tab on the 45 sticks up, rather then down, on left hand 45s. The only way I have found to make it work is to flip the work over so it is a right hand use again. Otherwise, I agree about it being supremely handy. It can be set up with the left hand alone while picking up the saw with the right hand. I wonder, though... does it work well for left-handed users because of the support tab on the crosscut part?
You are correct Michael, this was an error on my part. You can flip the timber to cut both ways, but this may not always be practical. As a right-hander I must admit I have not thought about our poor lefty friends... but then neither do most circular saw makers who give them terrible sight lines so I don't feel as bad about that one 🤣
Great review as always. I did not even know Kreg made such a jig. Much more convenient then having to pull out a miter saw. We still think you should be the As Seen On TV products tester. You will be perfect for it.
It's fairly new, came out with the launch of the new pockethole series :)

Hi James, Nice jig. easy to install and use. Thank you for sharing detailed information. stay healthy and happy. See you. big greetings. Best regards, Mehmet
Well, they kinda do ;) This video was made for Kreg Australia. I get a small kickback from Carbatec when people use my links to buy their Kreg gear from there. 😊
Even with the mitre saw the old Square cut still gets a good run cutting really long stock down both in the carpark and back home. This new version is a nice upgrade. 😃
An interesting tool, not seen anything like that before, especially where you can set the width on those sliding marker things. Can imagine this would be good on the job site
They have certainly made some improvements to really elevate it above a standard speed square. Would be great on site where quick rough joinery is all you need, you are away from the mitre saw, or you need to trim something already bolted down.
Thanks for this video James. I remember that about 40 years ago I made a simple version of the basic one of these to use with my Black and Decker saw attachment, I was told I should patent it and I wish I had! Plastics were not what they are now then, mine was made of marine ply but it sufficed. This video will help those who have not got room in their workshop for a full automatic saw and for those with no workshop. Kreg could use your video as a promotion resource - make sure you get royalties though :) Best wishes, Eryk 👍🔨
They kinda do, I have a good working relationship with Kreg Australia 😊 My wife is currently studying to be a patent lawyer, once I finish my time travel jig I'll let you know and we can go back to sort this out for you 😁
@@FixitFingers I think my design would have been redundant even several decades ago :) Just want to wish your lady wife all the very best in her aspirations :)
The one feature I like about the older one over the new one is you can use the kreg quick release clamp with it.
Yes clamping the new one is a bit harder. I use the quick grip style ones (that Kreg have now released a version of 😅)
I always read the instructions...okay maybe not always or even at all. Great review James, thank you.
So do I... Then I read them out and call it a video 😂
Very handy bit of kit James expecially for peeps without a table or miter saw.
Yes I use mine a lot less now I have the mitre saw, but still handy in the Carpark and to break up very long stock👍
Thanks for the review, in particular the comparison of the old to the new.

There was not a lot wrong with the old one. In fact I find myself reaching for it a lot of the time still as I've kept both for now 😅

Glad it helped Sonia! Perfect application that for picnic table hacking up 2x4s :D

Great review James. Clear, concise and informative. @Carbatec know what they're doing getting you involved. 👍
From fan boy to brand ambassador 😅 I've been very fortunate tool build a relationship with Carbatec. They really support small Aussie makers.

Thank you as always Mehmet, it is a simple jig that does its job well.
@@FixitFingers A good jig that is simple but useful. Cheers mate.
Great review and video mate. Kreg should be using this video to sell their product

Looks a cool go to jig mate, really well demonstrated as usual 👍👍👍
Cheers Sumo! Now...what to do with the old jig 🤔😋
Anything that takes the free hand away from holding the off cut is a great tool!
Cheers.
Never thought of that. I've never felt comfortable free handing so the control is key for me.
Looks like a useful jig from Kreg, James. Will be pretty handy in the shop

good video to get people started on using the tool … thank you
Cheers Johnny, it's a handy bit of kit

But really good, with one jig I can cut 30 cm boards. I have both and am more than satisfied.
I've held onto the old one too :P Comes in handy in certain situations where the width of the new one is a hinderance.
Great review, absolulety something I will consider getting. Do they make one for people who uses chainsaw to do the crosscuts 😜😂😎
Not that I know of.... yet! I'll ask and see it there is one in the pipeline 🤣

Will do, thank you Eryk 🙏
Most excellent review!
I like to avoid that term on a piece I was gifted and have only owned a few months. Let's call it a product highlight 😉
I bought two at Menards today for $3.68 each.
That's a bargain! The new model or the old one?
Thanks! Great vid. Loved it!
Cheers Mike glad it came in handy!
Good videos 👍👍👍. Best wishes
Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed 😃
"no matter how idiot proof Kreg make their gear"...
🤣🤣bwahahahaha🤣🤣
Nice review and how to, not that there's a whole to, how to...😉
Cheers mate 👍🏽
I was originally planning a 'set up' video...then pulled it out of the box in one piece and had to change tact 😂
@@FixitFingers
The easy ones aren't always the easiest to review,
as in, not a whole lot to do or talk about...
But you nailed it, 👍🏽
The jig looks almost as good as that shirt you are wearing.......almost
The optional thermal layer helps performance 😂
