This has big old school machinima vibes. The amateurish animation, the slightly awkward voice acting, the humor, the references, it has everything! Briliant job and keep them coming
I have absolutely the utmost respect for doing the voice acting for the female characters too. You guys could have easily just settled for AI, but there's just something more genuine and charming this way. I really look forward to a continuation!
Im surprised it took this long for someone to try recreate the magic of the original happy souls. I'm even more surprised just how perfectly you captured the vibe. Loved the animation. The awkward movement and the lighting on the Lands Between made me feel like I was watching someone's stop motion passion project. This was brilliant, and I can't wait to see what you do next.
The gags and jokes are really solid here. I’ve busted out laughing several times. “So this is detroid” got me good, and the way he was suddenly pulled into the chest was great. I think the pacing of the video, specifically the amount of empty pauses or moments where the characters are just standing there after saying something for several seconds, are things that could be easily touched up and would improve this tremendously.
i spent so much time cooped inside making this that i forgot social cues.... now all my characters acting like awkard outcasts.... FML!!!! oh well always next time right! thank you for tuning in glad i could make you laugh :D
Honestly, I disagree. The pauses were awkward, but they actually made me laugh MORE because of how awkward they were. It felt like in every one of those instances, the buddies were silently judging each other hahaha. Maybe leave a few of them in, just for the giggles 😁
@@MishiGeneration The original Happy Souls had something similar where there were long pauses between dialogue! While they were in excess, I don't think it took away from the video at all. I liked it!
@@awakenedopheliaI 2nd that the awkward pauses worked well. There were a few that were unnecessary but overall the vibe from Happy Souls is intact. The enemies sticking to them after the guard calls out was my favorite moment. Well done
I appreciate all of the little references you slip in, like the splash screen coming back from the ad was taken straight from the style and soundtrack of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
Other than the characters just standing around in awkward silence at times this was great. Good work. Voice actors clearly need more experience under their belts too but it's fine for a first work. I honestly hope you guys turn this into a series with the characters going through each region I think it has potential to grow into something special. It's never going to be Happy Souls, but it shouldn't, I hope Happy Ring can grow into it's own little special thing we can remember fondly in the future.
im sorry theyre so awkward i will teach them better social skills... sometimes in elden ring you just have to stand a round for abit... the people dont see that.... but maybe... they should..! it was just me my first time voice acting and it was scary! i will be more confident next time. thank u for tuning in ! and thank you for your hope! i will treasure it.
@@jesusvera7941 I was just rewatching it earlier. The jokes are on point I agree, but the voice acting comes across as voice acting. They have the spirit but the guys in happy souls felt more natural. This isn't a critique, it's to be expected from someone's first time compared to more professional people, it's honestly unfair to compare but inevitable given the legacy they are trying to pick up here. They'll get better with time.
I will say its on point for the game. Whenever I get summoned in the overworld I just stand around looking. While the host is figuring out what they want to do, or where to go.
@@MishiGeneration let me know if you need a voice actor! ive always wanted to do something like that, i can do a couple accents and i have a lifetime voicemod subscription to spice things up, though i dont have much experience with it. I'd be truly honored to help make animations like these!

It does fit, as that guy is BS to the Nth Degree. While I did die to Margit more often than him, he is still BS. And Crucible Knights don't get any easier. Too bad they didn't make it to Margit yet, though. Now THAT fight is a major wakeup call. He's also harder than Godrick.
@@jgkitarel You can parry him. You take a shield with good guard boost and high physical guard, then you can either reaction parry, or guard one attack of a combo and parry the second.

I just wanted to play that one game with good music, but nah, all I got was trauma and a skill issue instead.
I love how there's just enough really good "professional quality" animation to let us know without a doubt that anything which may appear less conventional is an artistic and comedic choice. Awkward pauses, a character having fidgeting movements while standing in place, etc... someone did that. It would have been easier to literally just not. These were choices to convey a tone and I love it.
This is a wonderful spiritual successor to Happy Souls! Extremely well done for a first animation IMHO. I hope you turn this into a full fledged series. The Lands Between beckon with countless adventures and perils, and I eagerly anticipate the next installment. 😁
the comedic timing is impeccable. all the scenes hold on for just a little too long, and it's absolutely perfect I never thought I wanted this but now I can't imagine living without it
The cruicible knight fight was awesome, it felt like dbz and jojo put together. I swear, the evergaol cruicible at the beginning is not the same as the others. It must have aggression tuned up. I know the cruicible knights like the back of my hand, and that first one messes with my dodge timing. Great work, keep it up!
I was waiting for the final version of this to drop for some time now, Happy Souls is one of my favorite videos of all time, I just love it so much. This project was clearly inspired by it and it was stated to be inspired by and a tribute to Jameserton's Happy Souls, it shows in a LOT of ways and in the end it's... okay. It's not bad, but it's not great too, it's alright. I don't want to be overly negative but I feel like it lacks a lot of what made Happy Souls special. The main problems here are the delays, where It feels like pauses are way too long, being somewhat uncomfortable, The artstyle, in which HS was 2D animated and it wasn't the best thing ever made, but it was charming and cute, and it along the lighthearted humor fit quite well with the video. This is 3D and seems to mix some other styles here and there to spice things up a bit, but I found them to be somewhat jarring, even more so on the "hand animated" 3D things to the parts that seemed to be animated by someone actually making the movements... although they did add some charm to it, but was a departure from HS which is a bit disappointing, and made things seem way more grim since the 3D models clash so much with the aesthetic of what is going on and being talked about, although it's understandable (or would be more understandable if this was set to be more of its own thing). The somewhat weird voice acting, feeling like it lacks some impact to deliver things. The lack of progression (They get the horse nonchalantly, use it once and then almost before the video ends ranni asks them about it, I even forgot that they got the horse), Also, the ad in the middle of this is just disappointing on a whole other level. Hell, I don't blame you, money is nice, and the transition screens were alright along with some of the jokes in it, but it lost a lot of its magic to have that in the middle of something that, at least from how its inspiration is, was only about 2 good friends having fun together in a game. Again, it was inspired by HS and a tribute to it but feel like it misses a lot that made that video so good and a pearl in the Dark Souls community. I said all that and yet I don't hate this, again, it's alright, I feel that with just some minor edits this video would already feel better. And if it really was the first real project of someone who was passionate about HS and Elden Ring and wanted a spiritual successor to it then congratulations. There was a lot of potential here and although things were far from perfect and "a little shitty, a little choppy, a little too noisy, a little too meta, a little too cringe, etc etc" as written in the description, you still did something that me and many others have been wanting for a long time.
