He actually said it was hard to play it right - playing it wasn’t too hard but he emphasised that the challenge was the speed of the right hand and the amount of force he was putting into the drums through hands and feet. That is what’s missing in this version - compare this one to the drum cam version of Neil and watch the left hand in the opening section - you can see the power going through the arm into the stick and the drum. That is missing on virtually every cover - that’s what Neil was talking about when he said this song was one of his biggest challenges.
Sticking is very well done. I remember when my shoulders used to be able reach like that... Those days are gone. Now I live vicariously through the next amazing generation of drummers like this and other musicians riding the coattails of those drummers... But seriously - He has displayed a great level of relaxed control and fluid accuracy that makes this song pleasing to watch.

I've seen a lot of processed/edited covers of this song so this is so much better. And yes to all the cymbals. This song needs it and is better because of it. Awesome cover. And RIP Neil. He was a unique soul.
with all due respect to Neil Peart, rest in piece, i have learned this song and i have learned other songs, just throwing one out there, Save Me by Avenged Sevenfold and the fill part in Tom Sawyer is a piece of cake compared to 75% of that song. don’t get me wrong, i love this song and i love playing it, but it isn’t exactly the hardest song in the world
@@cobbfunnybrain6632 but it also came out 30 years before Avenged Sevenfold - innovators and pioneers lead whilst the rest follow. We wouldn't have AS without Rush and Peart.
@@vsixx4330 Agreed. This can't be denied by anyone who knows about musical influence. However, I also agree with the intent of the person who replied to you. @TheBearStudios 1 second ago Great cover of a stunning piece of Neil's artistry. I had the privilege of seeing Rush in Southampton in 1980 on the 2112 tour. Incredible and unparalleled 3 piece band.
Funny how we all know by heart such an intricate drum track, cause you know we were all air drumming along...or with our sticks beating our beds, pillows, and tables up lol.
Good job dude!!! This is one of those tricky tunes that when you just hear it, it doesn't sound difficult to play....especially for a Rush tune. But then you sit down behind the kit and quickly realize there's alot more going on than it sounds. It's a really tricky song to play. I've heard many bands cover it and I'd say 97% of the time, the drummer plays it wrong. You played it great!!!
I miss the days when I can cover this song . I haven’t tried in years. One day soon hopefully. You gave me the inspiration to butcher this song multiple times until I get it back ❤
im clicking through tom sawyer covers out of boredom, and holy fuck. huge kit, and you use every piece of it like neil would've wanted, and almost 0 mistakes it's incredible. awesome cover my dude
I see somebody took some money out of the cymbal budget for audio equipment! This is just as amazing as the original thank you for this. I wasn't a Rush fan until I saw your original video. I had always heard Rush, but never really got into them; so they were just always that band that did Tom Sawyer to me. But one night your OG video came up in my recommended, which I thought was weird considering I had never liked or listened to Rush, but girlfriend's dad's favorite band is Rush so I was jokingly like, "eh, I'll do it for Shawn." And oh my god it clicked. My ears had always bypassed the drumming until I saw it and my brain just dug it. The next week I listened to 2112 out of curiosity for the A-side run time and the rest is history, Rush is one of my top three favorite bands by far! So thank you for that I suppose haha
Good job! 👏😀 And I reckon *this* is what the snare on the whole 'Moving Pictures' album should've sounded like! Which it actually did on the following album, 'Signals'! 😄
Absolutely incredible man!! Love the all the covers, you do true justice to DT, Rush, Opeth and all the greats. Would love to see you tackle some Haken! Congrats
That was awesome. As someone said on your original cover video of this song (which I slightly prefer) that is the closest I’ll see to Neil himself playing it. You make it look totally effortless. Superb.
I agree on the preference. Sound is better on this version but I think the timing and accuracy is slightly better on the first cover. I was not a huge Rush fan when I was young so I never put the effort in to learning any of their stuff well. Either version is far better than any cover of this I would try--I'll never be good enough again to get it that accurate, and I've never learned any Rush as well as this fellow Niko. Too damn old and broken for starters LOL Great job Niko!
Neil Pert said himself that this song is difficult for him to play perfectly every time. The fact that you can play it says a lot. Very well done!
He actually said it was hard to play it right - playing it wasn’t too hard but he emphasised that the challenge was the speed of the right hand and the amount of force he was putting into the drums through hands and feet.
