Already have, didn't realize til end of video, awesome?
Congrats…!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
He would indeed
It's a dang hard song to learn and play , I still can't quite get it , man , you did a fine showing . One small critique ,your flam at 3:06 was a little hurried . Keep on truckin. HalleluYAH !
Damn dude you were born to be a drummer. Professional skill I wish I had. It makes me want to sell my shit.
I have a much clearer appreciation of this song after seeing the sheet music and watching you play it. Amazing! Rock on!!!
Truth!
This is Mozart percussion sheet music. Except an entire symphony orchestra of notes is on the back of 1 drummer, insane and impressive for anyone to pull off.
Probably the single greatest drumming performance in any one song. Sounds that should be utter chaos are played in the tightest and most cohesive orchestration…and it all makes an actual tune.
The "Professor" would approve.
@1stclasstransport llc. I want to hear you play it even close to this kid bet ya can’t
We have a new professor...
Oh yes he would!
He sure would 👏🏻
Professor of Rock?
This is your legacy Neil. You will live on forever as an inspiration to countless young and old drummers alike.
Gosh I feel bad for the poor bastard who had to put this on sheet music
When Frank Zappa was alive, I saw him orchestrate every part of his songs on sheet music. Including drums. Most brilliant man I’ve had the pleasure to know
@@amazingmrtitts Zappa was a genius. I take pride being from Baltimore because of him lol
@@PizzzaBoy fancy seeing you here
@@PizzzaBoy...me too...
ahaha i had a good chuckle reading this comment
Wow!!! You successfully pulled off one of the hardest drum lines there is to play. I have no doubts that Neil would be highly impressed.
Now I understand what Chester Cheetah meant.
I think of that scene every single time I hear the drum solo in this song.
😂😂😂 YESS!!!
Ahhhh the masterpiece that IS Tom Sawyer…never get tired of it.. great job Avery!
Holy hell! I remember seeing some of your videos from when you were just a little tyke and thinking that, one day, you were gonna be an amazing drummer, and now you are.
Congratulations! You've done very well. I hope your skills give you everything in life that you wish for.
he was already an amazing drummer when he was a little tyke lol
I totally agree. This guy's got some SERIOUS SKILLS with the sticks, AND HE'S ONLY 14!!!!
Keep it up there Avery, WELL DONE🔥🔥🔥🔥
I was literally about to comment “holy hell” 😂😂😂😂
Hey I thought I was the only one to say Holy Hell!!!!! UA-cam just recommend this guy and now I find out he has been on here for 9 years!!!!! Got to love the system.
try playing NOFX The Decline on sheet music ,,,puts this stupid song to shame here
Awesome. The amazing thing about Peart is that there's a hell of a lot more going on than you actually realise. Her makes it sound so simple, but when you listen to an isolated track.... Holy moly
Nothing about Pearts playing sounded simple...🙄
Peart makes it sound smooth
There is Absolutely NO Question that you got it Perfectly Right. Even the Professor 🙏 would Agree. 👍
Only two parts that I saw that did not copy exactly the official sheet music. Very minor and makes no real difference.
this is a really good exercise to build chops. it’s one thing to “mostly” learn a song, it’s another to get it to a “note for note” level of confidence. great job 👏
I remember watching Avery as a kid and thinking there's no way he can get any better, I guess I was wrong! ❤️🤘
I love him.
Indeed
I admire Neil Peart (RIP) more than any drummer ever, for shure he is very proud of your amazing work, congrats!!
PEARTFECT!! Seriously Nice Job Avery...
This is the song that started my 15 year drum "career" so thankful I got to see them in concert 3 times.
3:30 was perfection. So precise and so much control over the kit.
Closed my eyes, walked away into another room and listened without watching you. N.P. would be proud of you, perfectly executed young man….good for you. Was my very first concert to attend in 1978 and the opened up for Pat Travers believe it or not. Nice job ….good for you ….!!!!!🇺🇸
Being that I was a RUSH fan going back as far as 1974, I was learning Alex Lifeson's parts mostly, but started with Geddy Lee's bass and vocal parts. I never got good enough on the drums to pull off Neil Peart. Guitar became my main instrument. By the album 2112 I learned almost all Alex Lifeson's parts, except the lead parts. My problem though, was that I had too many interests to focus much on one. But, I've listened to this particular song thousands of times, even watched Neil perform it about 10 times live and dozens of times on video. His drum parts are pretty much etched into my neuro pathways, so I can confidently say that you NAILED IT.
It just proves how much talent Neil Peart had. I had the pleasure of seeing Rush live and Neil's drum setup was amazing, you could hardly see him, totally surrounded my every kind of percussion instrument known.
The close of the phrase beginning at 3:20 has always been my favorite part. Neil introduces new variations there that build perfectly the climax of the lyrics and it's incredible. Great cover.
That’s the only part that’s kept me from being able to play this because of his signature ride pattern.
I wish you would add the sheet music to all the covers you do like this one. Great job Avery.
I've been watching and admiring you since you were 5 or 6 years old. I'm so impressed with the maturity and composure with which you carry yourself and the study and disciplined practice that has supported your expertise.
I have several friends and acquaintances that are in some of the biggest touring bands in the world. I don't know if that kind of life is the dream you have for yourself, but you obviously have the skill-set. Whatever your dream, even if you aren't sure of it yet, what you are doing now is making a lot of people smile and cry very happy tears.
Stay away from bad people and bad things, they'll rob you of everything.
Be the Light.
Rock on & God bless!
I have just started learning to play the drums at 59 years old. I came across your page and am simply blown away. Simply unbelivable how you play the high hat while throwing in the Toms, bass, and symbols.
Yup. You convinced me dude. You got the notes, the feel, the meter, everything right. Fantastic job.
Avery, you are mind-boggling. Impeccable timing. You know I would like it if any professional drummers out there would comment on this young man's talent. Let's give credit where credit is due.
Hey Avery, having watched you since you were six or seven, holy shit man. Its obvious from day one you loved playing and had some serious potential and skill, and its awesome watching this seeing that all come to fruition.
I have watched countless people play this song, both live and on UA-cam. This, with the scrolling sheet music, is the single most impressive thing I've ever seen. I can't tell you how many times I hit the '5 sec back' so I could figure out what the heck you just did. Well played, sir. Well played indeed.
Wow this is so much fun to watch. You have managed it to perfectly combine the theorie and the emotion of the song. love it!
What in the world did I just witness? Scrolling the screen? while performing a flawless cover? Really?!? You're amazing Avery. Keep it going little brother.
Wow! Pretty damn impressive. Hope we’ll be seeing you on tour soon, with the next great band.
It's absolutely Impossible how you played. Unbelievable! 👏
Absolutely amazing. I can’t wait to hear your original comps. That’s the thing about Peart… yes, he is one of the best drummers of all time, but the talent lay in composition. He had to hear this, envision it, and create it…that to me is the most impressive part. And of course he was a well-read nerdy lyricist. Keep up the amazing work, and transcribe your catalog into originals!!
As an old guy who’s been playing it incorrectly for years, all I can say is WOW! Fantastic job! Maybe now I can start getting a few bits closer to what Neil actually did.
One of my most favorite songs ever!!!! Avery you are amazing, what a great workout you get playing this one!
As a Neil Peart and Rush fan for years all I can say is total respect for you kid that is a phenomenal job on the song that Peart himself used to say was the hardest to play .. awesome job
Great to see this with the notation. You did a fantastic job,and the drums sound nice too. Most accurate version I've seen, and closest to how I hear it.
For working with a drum kit much smaller than Neil used, you absolutely NAILED IT!!!! This is one of my favorite songs of all time, and you did proud a man I consider to be one of the gods of the drums.
This is crazy impressive. It's so nice to see it all transcribed and played. Thanks for doing this. You are a monster musician!
You have nailed it. You have the ferocity, focus and commitment that Neil Peart himself had. Even his drum teacher told him this back in Canada, and knew he would be a great drummer.
I hope one day geddy and Alex can see your vid and bring you in for an audition. A revival of RUSH with you playing drums, I would pay to see you and Alex and Ged tear it up on stage.
He's Cracked on the drums my guy
I'm 33 years old been playing since I was in middle school....and I still play the simple version. Hats off to you young man! Keep playing let the beat take you somewhere
You killed it!!!! One of the greatest songs with one of if not the greatest drum beats ever!!!
WOW!....Just WOW!!! Love to watch you play; my husband is a drummer (and he's excellent!), been playing since he was 8 years old (60 now), and he says your technical skills are amazing!
Neil would be proud!!!!
I am proud!
Thats EXACTLY what I said.
The high hat does not open and choke as much as the original version
Avery, that was absolute insanity on the skins. You killed it. Niel would be so proud and would have told you himself, even he was impressed when he could reproduce the original song beat for beat. I'm blown away
That brought me to tears.
The are two things that really stood out to me while you were playing.
Dedication and commitment.
Peace
I looked up “dedication” in the thesaurus and it gave me “commitment” 😆
So, I guess one thing ☝️ stood out
I just revisited this and my mind has been blown for another year. See you in 2023
Master class performance as always Avery. Thank you for sharing.
This is absolutely the best drum cover of this song Ive ever seen. This is egregious. Like you have no reason to be this good.
Damn pretty close! It's especially impressive when you consider that the final drum track on the album was edited and assembled over several weeks using the best parts from over 20 takes!
If you're going to say "pretty close"... please tell us what he got wrong we are dying to hear
I imagine he's referring to the bit of slop around 3:00 and the rushing after the fill section, but who knows
@@neonblack211 Just minor discrepancies here and there. If you're a fan of the album you'll hear them. Overall it's a great performance though.
Funny all the people saying... "close"... as if they could know the difference. Just be honest. Its clear, that he replicated it 100% correctly. Its not a slight to admit that. Neil was not a God. It's not like his playing is not reproducible by human hands. His genius is the creation of it, coupled with his writing skills. There are many drummers technically better than Neil. If you disagree, you are simply misinformed, and/or starstruck.
To add to that, Neil could NOT read sheet music in real time like Avery is. Neil said as much in his own writing..... so... theres that.
Most people can get an A- at most things but only the best get an A+...this is it. Killed it!
Best version I’ve heard yet, great timing, great sounding drums and reproduction of fills awesome.
Yes this young man is precise.
THANK YOU, You did great. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people try and play this song, and they NEVER use their feet for that drum fill. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it when someone actually does it the way Neal did it, He would very much approve.
Spot on son! Neil Peart would be proud! Keep up the excellent drumming.
Neil did say this song was extremely difficult to play and you were flawless! Well done.
Nailed it great job Avery
Omg this is so badass, he's spot on for sure, I've watched Neil play this live and watched aerial footage of him playing this. Amazing!
Damn, almost completely perfect. It just seems that the first minute of the song the open hi-hats were a little extra and different than the original. But damn that sounded good. Music to my ears. !!! Amazing technical precision !!!
Just Wow ! Best drumming song ever. Unbelievable performance, by a drummer of any age ! Much respect !
Not as elaborate of a set up as Neil but you’re gonna go down as one of the greatest who ever did it 👍
HEY AVERY !! YOU PLAY THIS BETTER THAN THE DRUMMER FOR THE COVER BAND YYNOT !! DUDE YOU NAILED THIS !! NEIL IS WATCHING OVER YOU MY FRIEND .✌🇺🇸
This young fella will go down as probably one of the greatest drummers of all time waaaay on down the road. He's still young, but gotta great start in his journey throughout the drumming world..
Holy shitballs! That was amazing!
I’m sorry…but did I see this right? Jesus Christ!! Friggin awesome job bro, this is prob at the least in the top 5 hardest songs for percussion…and you nailed it
Only Neal can play this song perfectly with perfect timing and hitting every beat!
Close
Neil. Don't disrespect the professor. But this kid is really really good.
Neil played this song near 200 times a year plus rehearsals
Never a slight mistake
Can you point to a timestamp he goofs at? Sounds good to me
@@davidstephenson8 it's more about the pocket and the ride and hihat dynamics and the bus processing on the drums which is not upto Neil's standards but it doesn't have to be honestly
@@sanidhyachauhan5578 pocket - totally. That's the groove. Awesome job though.
I won’t add to the well deserved laudatory comments except for this: I’m happy to see someone besides me who plays wearing just socks and not chipping the high hat with the left foot pedal while playing the ride. Btw, I thought I knew how to play this by ear WAY back in the day (circa 1988) until I bought the sheet music and picked up several nuances I had missed. Beautiful work on this, well done!
I have shown my kids your videos, from way back. Thank you for your effort, and while people say there is talent,,, you don't do what you do without a shit load of hard work.
Truly amazing. I have mad respect for anyone who can play Tom Sawyer and it is great to actually see the sheet music as you play and there is no denying you killed it!! Watched your 6-12 years old Classic rock video before this. It is obvious you love playing and have put a lot of time into it. Having 9 years under your belt and 15 now. Wow!
Peart was the ultimate drummer and you just proved that. Well done for handling this complex score
My goodness, you positively killed it! Well done seems like an understatement.
Well done Avery! I’m 58 been drumming my whole life and playing Tom Sawyer was and is way beyond my skillset. Your attempt at age 7 topped my best attempt lol. Very impressive, i know the practice it takes to nail that song and this time you absolutely nailed it! Great stuff! You just may be the next Neil Peart if you stay on this trajectory
Perfection! Love ya kiddo! Keep rockin! 🥁
Your tableture studies really enhanced Your skills. We'd like to keep seeing you through the years where we can always find you.
Playing Rush note for note on the internet…that’s really putting yourself out there haha! Amazing job dude, couldn’t find a single missed hit, fantastic!
Congrats!!! What a drum part to 1-learn, 2-practice and 3-make it sound like! Am a Rush fan for 30yrs. Respect to you! 🙏🙏 Love seeing the drum sheets as you play!
ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL Avery! This is a very tough cover to play and you knocked it out of the park! Very impressive to say the least and have watched it you played it 7 along with several others! You've definitely got a career ahead of you and if someone doesn't hire you on I'll NEVER BELIEVE IT! Nice job and keep on keeping on!
Avery is a darn great drummer I been listing to him for years when he played wipe out I could not believe what I seen and heard .
Avery keep up the great work.
First of all...I am SOOO relieved that I took the time to see what you were up to more recently. When I saw that little 7 yr old get pulled up on stage to play AC/DC covers, or the old Rush covers, I thought, OMG....what if playing all this metal, hard R&R stuff affected him in the wrong way? I've lost so many friends in this business...OMG! Am I going to find he OD'd when he was 10 or 11? Will he look like Slash, from G&R? Whew, was I relieved! Thank you Avery, for being such a musical savant, for being such a hard worker, taking the time to learn how to read music (it's amazing how many drummers don't), and for growing up learning your passion, and mastering it by age 14! I am truly AMAZED! I could not be more happy for you & all you've accomplished! 😁
Excellent cover Avery....Congratulations! Neil is.....and always will be....the Man. RIP Neil.
Crazy I've been watching you since day one on UA-cam, Nice work you killed it!
I was a high school teen in Ontario, Canada in 1980 when Rush was a new popular band and I really wasn't into them but I loved watching and listening to your drumming of Tom Sawyer...twice..excellent well done!
The high hats and snare always sound funky in all of these videos .
I remember when you're video first posted and I heard it on the local rock station I thought I was listening to Niel himself and look at you now all grown up. I just got a quick music lesson on reading the notes and seeing what they actually applied to on the drums as it moves along. Niel is smiling down on your!! Maybe you can actually do a Tour with the Band!!
There's no need to say how good this is Professor Avery, because it speaks for itself.
Damn, kid. You've really grown up and are totally knocking it out of the park! I'd bet good money you are going to be a highly paid professional drummer one day. Good for you!!
Great job, always one of my favorite tunes to play along with, I must have listened to Tom Sawyer 10,000 times before I got the drumming right, and man sheet music would have really helped out back in the 80's when I was learning to play this...
Every time you slap those skins, it's perfection Avery.
Nailed it! Don't ever quit playing! The Professor said bravo!
I was skeptical when I saw the title of your video. Now...total respect. Well done young mam!
I've seen this performed by Neil and countless others … but having the sheet music right there -wow! That makes it even more impressive knowing how The Professor put it together! Great job, and thank you.
Watched like 19 times. So proud of you for making the next leap into writing drum music
I love it when kids can play a song that is older then them! 😂🤣 First Rush concert was the Summer of 1980 Moving Pictures Tour.
Great job dude! Love Rush, Neil and of course TS - Every drummer at any level should enjoy the experience of playing this song and really everything on Moving Pictures.
I appreciate the recommendation of the vid of you playing this when you were 7. It helped to rid myself of that morsel of self respect I had left.
Cool bro, class '75 wheeling high, I saw them in concert. Aloha.
I can tell by your body language while you play that your rhythmic abilities are an innate gift to you. Amazing job on this, you nailed the precision, technique and power of the piece. Neil may have hit those rolls in the break a little harder but this was an A+ bravo
Avery, I've watched a lot of Tom Sawyer drum cover videos, seen a lot of local, well-respected players do great---and some not so great---versions of this song, and I honestly have to say---your version here is the cleanest and tightest I've ever seen or heard. Great job putting in the work to learn and play this masterpiece! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
OMG every beet of the drums foot pedal and cymbals is perfect;exactly like the real Tom Sawyer performance;AMAZING!!!
