That was the introduction of Brooks Wackerman also (was super young then, like 15 - drummer) who of course went on to Bad Religion and more recently Avenged. Tye Trujillo, Rob's 19 year old son is now the official bassist of ST, should look for some videos of him, he started touring with Korn in 2017 when he was just 12.

I just started checking these guys out. I think someone here mentioned them, knew about them for years from a comp back in the day. Can't wait to see watch the reaction
I got to see them live on this tour when they opened for Queensryche. We got to the venue before the doors opened and while we were waiting outside a white "free candy" type van pulls up to the curb and out pops the members of ST. They setup a table with a bunch of pizza and had ice chests full of Pepsi. They were so nice.. "Hey! Come get some pizza and a pepsi!" They also handed out promotional a cassette with a plain white cover that just said "Taste Test" on it and hung around and signed it. Very unexpected and cool experience.
I saw them on the Quennsryche tour as well what was it 1991 maybe. I actually only went to watch Suicidal I wasn’t much of a Quensryche fan to be honest. Did the Quensryche guys bring a basketball hoop on stage at your show?
@@waylonbeasley1477 Hah, no. I don't remember any basketball hoops on stage. I was a fan of both, so it was a great show. I listened to a lot of ST while skating with friends in high school.. I even had a huge "Join the Army" patch sewn on the back of my denim jacket.
Los cycos! So happy to see a Robert Trujillo journey! This album and the next two were their best work IMO. Love to see you react to You Can't Bring Me Down. It still gets regular play in my life.

Mike Muir's true talent isn't being a great front man, it's being the world's best musical talent scout. That members section on their wiki is like a murderers row.
Suicidal Tendencies - Send Me Your Money - Transbordeur 1994 - LIVE Check out an awesome live version of that song. You can clearly see how he plays there.
You made me a happy man... Please follow this with their song "Accept My Sacrifice" or "Asleep at the Wheel" off their follow up album from 1992 ART OF REBELLION. He pulls off some pretty impressive playing on both albums... His tone on that album is far too underrated. I stood in awe when I saw Suicidal open for Megadeth in 92. Rob's part in Accept My Sacrifice he was front and center with his foot up on the monitor belting out the sickest sounding notes... When you hear the song, you will know exactly what part I am talking about. Cheers, and thank you!
For more Robert Trujillo you have to check out another band that he was in called "Infectious Grooves" I highly recommend their song "Violent and Funky" I have been trying to learn that baseline for years.
From the beginning to The Art of Rebellion, ST was one of my favorite bands, Suicidal 4 Life even had a couple of decent tracks, I lost track after that, Controlled by Hatred and How Will I Laugh Tomorrow are also incredible albums
I saw Robert with Metallica in 2004, and he got a chance to spotlight some of his playing. The setlists online don't specify, it was probably a short medley but I think parts of "Anesthesia" were in there. Regardless, I was looking to see what he could do and was impressed. Very underrated player, and underutilized in Metallica.
NoMeansNo is a very interesting and unique band. They mashup punk with weird versions of jazz. The consistent members are the Wright brothers. Rob, who is the bass player has also played a lot of guitar in the band. What they always did was make the guitar and base play the same part. Like Rob almost played the base like guitar, even when they had Andy or Tom as a guitarist. For a while, the band was only duo of the brothers and IMO thats the most interesting period of the band where Rob wrote both bass and guitar parts. Wrong is probably their best and most liked album, but Why Do They Call Me Mr. Happy? is the most artisticaly complex. The songs fully blend into each other. From this album is amazing the section before and after Happy Bridge. I would love to see rection to Madnees & Death, Happy Bridge and Kill Everyone Now listened in a single session.

@@LowEndUniversity the bass on Violent and Funky is technically interesting but pretty much the same all the way through, Punk it up is a little more funky, funny enough. I was happy for Rob when he got the Metallica gig, but I was also just a little bummed as well...
@@TruckJohnson that's a actually a fair point about Violent & Funky. I tend to slip into suggesting tracks that I like as a song, and while the bass track is absolutely funky, it is very repetitive for the types of videos he does. I still think he'll enjoy it, though. I saw ST & IG at the old State Theater in Detroit right after Rob left (around 94-95) with an 18 year old Josh Paul on bass. I had seen ST several times (and a few other bassists) before, but the first time with IG. Josh is a badass, as well.
I REALLY hope you see this, you can find a video of them playing live in madrid 1993 and you can see Rob play it and it just feels so cool to see that it’s almost like you went back in time to be there!
This song was my introduction to Suicidal Tendencies! Saw the video on Beavis & Butthead, and even though this was 30+ years now I can still vividly remember just being hooked! Bought Lights Camera Revolution not long after, and after that I was a fan. And still am! Can't wait to see what you think of Infectious Grooves (love them too, of course)!
The common lineage that thrash and hardcore punk share largely comes down to Motorhead. If you haven't taken a look at Lemmy's playing yet, I highly recommend checking him out. He played like no other bassist before or since.
This video was uploaded about 2 weeks ago on Jay Weinberg's Official UA-cam Channel - "Infectious Grooves "Frustrated Again" Practice Drum Cam". Infectious Grooves is a side project of Rob and Mike Muir, Jay's been jamming with them since leaving Slipknot and uploaded this studio session, Rob's in full mosh mode stomping around the studio like Godzilla in Tokyo. Speaking of Slipknot, Sepultura drummer Eloy Casagrande just up and quit their upcoming 40 Anniversary tour for a different project, he didn't confirm yet but everyone already has a good idea that he's Slipknot's new drummer.
Love the channel! So nice to see punk music approached this way. Knowing you dig walking bass lines, you NEED to check out The Rezillos - Flying Saucer Attack
If you want to see the actual music video (and Rob playing’ for this song it is listed under ‘I saw your mommy’, a completely different song, but no one ever corrected it. Also I think you should do a video on Mastodon. Troy Sanders has a tone a lot of bass players beg to achieve and some of his riffs are just beautiful. Like Teardrinker, Ghost of Karelia, Where strides the Behemoth, Naked Burn etc.
You mentioned Pantera. I saw Suicidal Tendencies Pantera and Exodus together at UC Irvine, California, for support of this album and cowboys from hell. The pit was glorious.
Funk metal was a thing in the late 80s/early 90s (Primus was often lumped in with the scene) and Robert in ST & IG was a BIG part of it. This album & The Art of Rebellion are his best with ST (IMO, of course) & the 1st IG album, The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move, is a Robert Trujillo showcase. The dude goes off on every song.
My first ever concert in 93 or 94 in Des Moines. Metallica, Danzig, Suicidal. Suicidal had to cut their set short because the singer slipped on stage, it was raining, and gashed his knee open.
Listen to Infectious Grooves. Its a funk/metal side project of Mike Muir from Suicidal on Vocals and Robert Trujillo on bass and Stephen Perkins of Janes Addiction on drums.
Love ST, love Rob's time in the band... but if you wanna hear Rob funk out you gotta listen to Infectious Grooves. I'm solidly in the camp that believes that Thrash came from metal drummers adapting punk beats and/or punk drummers playing in metal bands. ST started as a punk band and personnel changes caused an evolution in their sound.
Check out “Scream Out” by Suicidal Tendencies. It’s off the Freedumb album after Rob left. Josh Paul plays bass on that album, very amazing & underrated bassist.
The last time i saw him live was on a Metallica (ironically) tour before he joined. The headliners were Metallica and Alice in Chains with Rob Halford's Fight and Suicidal Tendencies opening. I think this was around 1995 or 96 almost 30 years ago.
We always called it "skatepunk" or "motocross punk." But no, you gotta do _The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move, It's The Infectios Grooves._ Phenomenal, otherworldly bass clinic of funk, thrash like you've never heard. That's when Trujillo really opened my eyes. _Therapy_ has guest Ozzy. It's also how they met and later Rob played in his band. Every song. Every one. A _tour de force._ All the tricks. All his skills. Nowhere else will you hear Rob shine so much.
This album came out when I was in high school. I listened to it so much that the tape on the cassette stretched (if you know you know). Nice reaction, keep em coming. Ned’s Atomic Dustbin: Suave and Sophisticated Suicide Machines: Hey Blue Meanies: Smash The Magnavox 😊❤
@@solarpoweredtree no problem. He was replaced by Greyson Nekrutman who just left to replace Eloy Casagrande in Sepultura. Eloy is the guy that everyone is speculating is replacing Jay Weinberg in Slipknot. Looks like ST is looking for a new drummer. Mike will surely find a great drummer, whether it’s someone with name recognition or an unknown.
Great Video. There is actually some video of Rob playing some Flamenco guitar I think during the Death Magnetic sessions and Kirk walks into the room and James I think says something to the effect of "You better watch out, someone is coming for your job". Rob is crazy talented and there is nobody better suited for the Bass gig with Metallica. The guy has paid his dues.
I'm rather shocked that you're not that familiar with Mr. Trujillo's library. Infectious Grooves, ST, Jerry Cantrell solo stuff, Ozzy, Black Label, Metallica... Robert is The Man \m/.
I saw them on the Clash of the Titans tour just after this was released. I've got a memory of Rob tripping over a wedge and disappearing from the stage for a song or two.
On the EP before Lights, Camera, Rev... (Controlled By Hatred/Feel Like Shht Deja Vu) Rob is listed as Stymee which was a joke standing for "ST, whY Me?!" but not sure if he actually played on any of those songs; maybe 1 or 2
That 90s drum sound. Puffy from Faith No More always had some great snappy sounds that I love, but John Stanier from Helmet had that god-tier snare that's never been equaled.
Saw them open for Queensryche on the Mindcrime Tour. When he was announced as the new Metalica bassist I was happy as a clam. He's the best fit since Cliff.
The Art of Rebellion and Infectious Grooves- The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move are two albums that really showcase Robert’s talents. Check those out.
Hi Sir, maybe ya can consider Rob Trujilo's solo on Suicidal Tendencies, track call I WASN'T MEANT TO FEEL THIS / ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL on minute 5:13. Please!!!!

So thank you Vera mich! I hope 500 Channels from Choking Victim is also in your list. The bass is in this Song is so awsome!
I grew up in 80s, into all the thrash by 83 or so. Thanks for setting that old man feeling in HARD today. 😂 I picked up a bass because of Cliff, but Rob has always been a favorite as well. 🤘
Rob is a beast, for sure. Aside from Suicidal Tendencies and Infections Grooves, he has had stints as Ozzy's bassist in the studio and on tour. He's had a few other studio appearances, such as for Jerry Cantrell and a couple songs used for Black Label Society. He's also in Nickel Creek's video for "Smoothie Song", which is worth a look, and also joined Rodrigo y Gabriela a couple times for their cover of "Orion".

This album & The Art of Rebellion are his best with ST (IMO, of course) & the 1st IG album, The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move, is a Robert Trujillo showcase. The dude goes off on every song.
When I saw them on this tour Rob was playing Tobias basses through SVTs. Such a great album.
Those damn blue collar tweekers primus woodstock 94 gotta check it out
Saw Infectious Grooves a few months ago in Sydney with Rob and they played this from the Suicidal back catalogue.
Man, the dude is amazing
My first ever concert in 93 or 94 in Des Moines. Metallica, Danzig, Suicidal. Suicidal had to cut their set short because the singer slipped on stage, it was raining, and gashed his knee open.
Listen to Infectious Grooves. Its a funk/metal side project of Mike Muir from Suicidal on Vocals and Robert Trujillo on bass and Stephen Perkins of Janes Addiction on drums.
My favourite track on LCR. As other have said, Infectious Grooves - Violent and Funky. I saw Rob with ST supporting Metallica in 94.
Infectious Grooves - Cousin Randy
Have you ever done one of these on the Minutemen or the Dead Milkmen
Love ST, love Rob's time in the band... but if you wanna hear Rob funk out you gotta listen to Infectious Grooves.
I'm solidly in the camp that believes that Thrash came from metal drummers adapting punk beats and/or punk drummers playing in metal bands. ST started as a punk band and personnel changes caused an evolution in their sound.
Great video as always! I want to keep requesting Alkaline Trio, Dan Andriano is one of my fav bass players ever.
In vein has a really great bass lines
Love Rob! I think it's so cool Rob's son Tye plays bass for Suicidal now lol. Maybe you should do a video on Tye Trujillo too!
Infectious Grooves bro
Damn e everyone agrees lol
(1:25) reminds me of Higher Ground (Red hot style)
Check out “Scream Out” by Suicidal Tendencies. It’s off the Freedumb album after Rob left. Josh Paul plays bass on that album, very amazing & underrated bassist.
The last time i saw him live was on a Metallica (ironically) tour before he joined. The headliners were Metallica and Alice in Chains with Rob Halford's Fight and Suicidal Tendencies opening. I think this was around 1995 or 96 almost 30 years ago.
Love the vids and keep them coming! I still jam STS.
that album is just timeless honestly
We always called it "skatepunk" or "motocross punk."
But no, you gotta do _The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move, It's The Infectios Grooves._
Phenomenal, otherworldly bass clinic of funk, thrash like you've never heard. That's when Trujillo really opened my eyes.
_Therapy_ has guest Ozzy. It's also how they met and later Rob played in his band.
Every song. Every one. A _tour de force._ All the tricks. All his skills.
Nowhere else will you hear Rob shine so much.
P.s. Fuck yeah! Ever since I heard these guys as a teen, I've been rocking my hat like them!
*side note... Josh Freese fills in on drums on the next few albums following Herrera's departure..
This album came out when I was in high school. I listened to it so much that the tape on the cassette stretched (if you know you know). Nice reaction, keep em coming.
Ned’s Atomic Dustbin: Suave and Sophisticated
Suicide Machines: Hey
Blue Meanies: Smash The Magnavox
😊❤
Brooks Wackerman, the "new" drummer for Bad Religion also came from Suicidal Tendencies.
You need to catch up, Brooks left Bad Religion in 2015 to join Avenged Sevenfold.
@@biohazard_613 wow. I'm nearly a decade late to that update. lol. appreciate it.
Suggestions:
NoMeansNo - Big Dick
Refused - Summerholidays vs Punkroutine
Satanic Surfers - Don't Skate on My Ramp
Belvedere - Elephant March
That bass solo reminded me of You Can Call Me Al by Paul Simon.
I seen ST live on this tour, he was awesome, they opened for queensryche on the empire tour. Rob delivered!!!!!
The guy has paid his dues.
waiting for the infectious grooves video since I know it's inivetsble now.
Check out the vids of his son playing shows w Korn when Fieldy was absent from live shows when I believe he was only 12 or 13
Now do scream out by suicidal tendencies. Killer bass opening.
ST has been through a few drummers. But they were all top-notch.
Infectious grooves dude 💯
Infectious Grooves you pick me up (just to throw me down) has incredible basslines through the whole song!
It would make for a great reaction video.
Have you done any Glassjaw yet? "Shira" on Material Control is all bass. The heaviest ever. But literally any of their tracks are worth a dig.
He should do "All Good Junkies Go To Heaven" by Glassjaw
Saw them open for Queensryche on the Mindcrime Tour. When he was announced as the new Metalica bassist I was happy as a clam. He's the best fit since Cliff.
The Art of Rebellion and Infectious Grooves- The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move are two albums that really showcase Robert’s talents. Check those out.
!Suicidal por vida! I grew up listening to ST. One of the original OG skate-punk-thrash bands.
Older Red Hot Chili Peppers especially the Uplift Mofo Party Plan album, check it out! There's that Dingwall again, you should do a rig rundown!
Hi Sir, maybe ya can consider Rob Trujilo's solo on Suicidal Tendencies, track call I WASN'T MEANT TO FEEL THIS / ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL on minute 5:13. Please!!!!
Violent and Funky, Therapy, Infectious Grooves
You should do a video on Refused, "Summer Holiday Vs Punk Routine" has an insane bass line
Another great Review. I didn't know the song before. I hope they will play it on the festival in Germany when they play with Bad Religion. I'm really looking forward to them now. So thank you Vera mich!
I hope 500 Channels from Choking Victim is also in your list. The bass is in this Song is so awsome!
I grew up in 80s, into all the thrash by 83 or so. Thanks for setting that old man feeling in HARD today. 😂
I picked up a bass because of Cliff, but Rob has always been a favorite as well. 🤘
Rad!! Thanks for stopping by!
The guy made me start to play bass, totally idol Rob is the best. Check the therapy song by infectious grooves, the bass riffs are amazing and groovy
ST older stuff is awesome!! some of my favorite music
I would like to recommend any song of "Catch 22", from their album "Keasbey Nights", but specially "On & On & On"
Nice reaction. :) Really looking forward to see you play the main fast bass line in Violent & Funky by Infectious Grooves. :)
Violent & Funky Infectious Grooves. THE BEST!
