As a teacher talking from personal experience and having made mistakes: never ever ever ever argue with the students when they're right. Call yourself an idiot out loud, let them laugh at you, call yourself an idiot again, laugh with them - and then continue the lesson. Some might even realise you're just a person. Which afcourse we're not, but they don't know that. Beep boop beep.

I found professors in university were more accepting of being wrong than school teachers for the most part. They were more accepting that they made errors.

Similar thing happened to me, except I used a Calabrian pronunciation and my teacher was from somewhere in northern Italy, and that's when I leaned some northerners and southerners often don't get along. I spent the next 3 years being treated like I murdered his family or something.
All my teacher's have always been really supportive and encuroaging about things like this. When a student corrects them, they've always doublechecked the information, further explained the subject if they were right and complimented/thanked the student for their help, if they were wrong.
Just imagine how good it must feel when you can correct a teacher...ahhhhhhh absolute bliss. Oh well, at least I was able to live through it vicariously. Thanks lads.

When I was at school, I had a mate who was basically maths genius. The last year before we left for university, he actually pointed out the teachers error, then proceeded to go up to the board and write out the full solution in order to mathematically prove he was right. I've never seen a teacher look so horrified as she realised that she'd been outdone by one of her students. We all just sat there speechless and it was super awkward.
As a teacher that would be the best thing ever! I'd be proud of my student and it saves me some work haha. Also, more memorable for the rest of the class.
One time a student asked a teacher when they were gonna update grades and the teacher said “you mind your business and I’ll mind mine sweetheart” and the class sat in confusion because we didn’t know when our grades would be updated
This is opposite of my experience. I studied engineering and the professors were appreciative of a student who as aware of a mistake in their arithmetic. It happens. Now I have a job working for a manager who is not an engineer. He does not like to be corrected by an engineer who knows what he is talking about.
I’m studying Astrophysics but this has always been the case for me as well. Like 99% of the mistakes my teachers made were arithmetic mistakes which were quite trivial and easy to correct.
That's funny, when I was in 2nd grade or something, my teacher insisted that whales were fish, and when I vehemently disagreed my parents got a note explaining in no uncertain terms how I shouldn't sabotage the teaching in the future, that I had a problem with authorities, and that I was a terrorist (this was back in the days when not just everyone was a terrorist). I don't know how my parents responded, but considering my mom was a teacher for 42 years, and had to read me all I could find about aquatic life in general, and sharks and whales in particular, before I learned to read myself, I reckon that none of them took my teacher's bitching and whining very seriously. Not all teachers are good teachers, my mom's former students still calls her once in a while just to say hi, she retired a long time ago.:-)
When I was in grade 1 my class was studying the water cycle, and we all had to come up with a question about water. My question was "how do we make water" and when I showed my question to the teacher she said that I wasn't allowed to ask that question. That night I go home and ask my dad how to make water, and he gives a detailed explanation about how it is done. The next day at school, I go to my teacher and repeat everything back to her. She gave me a detention. Screw You Ms. McCann!

I’m studying Astrophysics but this has always been the case for me as well. Like 99% of the mistakes my teachers made were arithmetic mistakes which were quite trivial and easy to correct.

That's funny, when I was in 2nd grade or something, my teacher insisted that whales were fish, and when I vehemently disagreed my parents got a note explaining in no uncertain terms how I shouldn't sabotage the teaching in the future, that I had a problem with authorities, and that I was a terrorist (this was back in the days when not just everyone was a terrorist). I don't know how my parents responded, but considering my mom was a teacher for 42 years, and had to read me all I could find about aquatic life in general, and sharks and whales in particular, before I learned to read myself, I reckon that none of them took my teacher's bitching and whining very seriously. Not all teachers are good teachers, my mom's former students still calls her once in a while just to say hi, she retired a long time ago.:-)
When I was in grade 1 my class was studying the water cycle, and we all had to come up with a question about water. My question was "how do we make water" and when I showed my question to the teacher she said that I wasn't allowed to ask that question. That night I go home and ask my dad how to make water, and he gives a detailed explanation about how it is done. The next day at school, I go to my teacher and repeat everything back to her. She gave me a detention. Screw You Ms. McCann!
