- My new home Tour and how I decorated on a tight budget for a home in 2023. I have six rooms to decorate and am trying to respect the 1939 Cape Cod-style cottage. I found thrift stores!!! So much happened this week~ I painted and placed new furniture, planned my gardens, bought new appliances, and just took a breather to live this new life in a new city! I have so many questions for you this week! What should I do with the window treatments!!!?
Much of the cottage home is not done but Desi is back doing his Yoga and I am back feeling that the sky is the limit as to what I can achieve.
Do we love things because they are perfect? Or do we love things because of when perhaps they could be?
Thank you Debra and Trish for thinking of me...thank you to all of you that continue to wish Desi and I good luck in our new city. You make us stronger and braver. We all are faced with two roads and perhaps the road not taken is our path to a better life...

Today is a special day, my husband died 9 years ago and yet it was devastating in the beginning but now I can look back and see the life that I’ve been able to carve out for myself. Even though blue isn't always considered a cheerful color, the color of your cabinets is light and bright and I don't think you need to change a thing in the kitchen. Congratulations on your new house.

Love the kitchen cupboards. It is a lovely color blue.. ligh and very calming. I painted my very dark cupboards white..if I had to choose another color..it would be the color blue you have.
True. The cabinets make me think of blue skies - and blue skies are always cheerful to me. But everyone likes to make personal choices.
I would never think I would like a blue kitchen but your’s is ideal… keep it and spend $ on something else. Also the living room windows look like there are pull down shades up on top.. yes? If so, I think they look good that way. It will keep a clean look to the room.

I thought Desi was so cute doing his leg stretches. Then I thought of my little boy Kody and that he never had done them. Then, lo and behold my sweet Kody 🎉❤😂began to do leg stretches!! Like magic! And he always done them ever since that day! When we go outside for a walk around our house, he begins his leg by doing his stretches.
I just love your new house! I have to say, about your window treatments, I don’t have any cloth at my windows, l have thought about any sheer fabric but so far I only have nice white blinds. My woodwork is white through out. The rooms are all painted in a neutral that suits each room. You are going to love living in this little town. I just have a feeling.I’ll checking in on you and Desi! ❤

Love your new house. I suggest for each of your windows, a simple, sheer panel with some kind of pattern of the same color, on it. And just keep your pull down blinds underneath, for privacy/protection. Enjoy your new place, also keep the robin’s egg blue kitchen cabinets, they look great.

I really like the blue cabinets as they are very calming and soothing. White sheer curtains would still allow the light to stream in.
Desi steals my heart every time, especially with his bow ties. For windows, how about white flowing curtains hung from a curtain rod at ceiling height. It will make your windows look bigger, your room will look bigger and the curtains will add softness and elegance which also describes you. You're doing great. Keep going.

Your home is so welcoming. My window treatment ideas: shutters on the bottom half if you need privacy or it looked like you have blinds on the windows, you could use just sheers for a bit of privacy. Don’t hide the sunlight. Desi sure loves his new home!

Today we learned our youngest granddaughter with 5 year old twin boys has come to the gut wrenching decision to divorce her husband. It warmed my heart watching what you shared today. The blue cabinets are very light and cheery to me. I love it! I like the pops of red, also, but you could always add some yellow accents (lemons, cup towels, decor etc) to cheer it up more to your liking. BLue and yellow look great together. It is a lovely kitchen and home.

Since you have so much color and variety of designs in both rooms, it will probably look best to keep the window treatments a solid neutral color so they don't take away from the beauty of your decor. The kitchen fits the style of the home and the light blue is really nice too!

Window treatments . Plantation shutters , the large sizes slats. They’re pricing but sooo worth it. Major investment that pays back every day.
For window treatments consider top down blinds. That way you have light from the top and privacy on the bottom. These blinds also give you options so if another configuration works, then you can do that too. Only way to go! Your home is lovely and cheerful, these blinds will keep it light-filled .
I think I agree with you. I was thinking really pretty oatmeal or white billowy light curtains that go to the floor but they might be too dominating in the spaces and she has Desi and grandkids so they might be difficult to wash and care for. Maybe she could do curtains in her bedroom or only in the dining room (for elegance)but do the top down type shades elsewhere? Whatever she does I think it'll look gorgeous!

@@dig1272 Agree with you, draperies/curtains will just compete with all the decor she has already put so much effort into. Blinds offer a more subdued option for privacy and light control.

I love the pale blue cabinets in the kitchen. Your home is so lovely. For one of my houses, I found a shop that sold special fabric for window treatments. I made drapes with a open weave linen that provided just the right amount of privacy but also a soft bit of light. I know you will be very happy living so close to your family.

I have wooden shutters and I love them. Easy to close and easy to open. No dusty cloth curtains like I always have had in the past. I think they would look great in your home. Desi looks so happy there!
I was going to suggest that too. I had them in a former home and loved them. I wish I could afford them in my current home.
Your new home is lovely! The light from all of the windows make it open and inviting. I have white wood blinds on all of my new home windows. They give me privacy or light, my choice!
