Didn't see if anyone else noticed this, but Dragoon does not share armor with tanks. There are three different armor sets for the DPS jobs. Dragoons and Reapers use Maiming armor with Slaying accessories, Monk and Samurai use Striking armor with Slaying accessories and Ninja uses Scouting Gear with Aiming accessories. All tanks use Fending armor and accessories. There is also Healing armor and accessories for Healers, Casting gear for Caster jobs (BLM, SMN, RED & BLU) then Aiming armor for BRD, MCH and DNC.
In the early game, LNC shares some gear with GLD, MRD, etc. He was just saying that in the early levels you'll have more defense during quests. It is a weird point to make, but it's not wrong.
Reaper is a very interesting case for me personally because while I've taken the time to level up every job to max since Shadowbringers so that I at least have a basic understanding of how they work, I haven't actively used a melee DPS in any sort of end game content since Samurai in Stormblood. I actually came pretty close to using Ninja at the end of Shadowbringers as I really liked its speed and ability to cast powerful spells on the move but then Endwalker happened and I absolutely fell in love with Reaper. Coming from someone who's always raided as either a healer/caster/ranged with the one exception I was SHOCKED by how completely I've given myself over to Reaper. Ever since the job was first revealed, I KNEW I would level it but I figured that I'd put it off because EVERYONE would be playing the new flashy job. However, once Endwalker actually came out and I got my hands on it I just couldn't put it down. Reaper hits the sweet spot of hard hitting moves like a Samurai paired with a fairly straight-forward rotation akin to a Dragoon but without animation locks that hamper your mobility all paired with the best spell effects in the entire game. It's an incredibly well-designed job so I can see why SE would want to bring all the other jobs up to its level as opposed to bringing it down to theirs (although Monk was already top DPS and now it's just more so top DPS to account for its perceived higher difficulty or busyness).
I thoroughly agree. It's a fast paced job but not so busy that it's overwhelming. It's also forgiving because you don't have a strict rotation you need to follow. Add in that the burst phase is almost non-stop and you have group utility, it's hard to not love this job.
Dragoon is WAY harder than you gave it credit for, especially at the time this video was made before the buffs. Huge amount of ogcd weaving and animation locks which can get you killed easily. Oh you screwed up your rotation? Basically gg damage, no way to fix it and your buffs will misalign. It's also one of the most fragile jobs in the game (armor type), and will die to any magical raid wides unless you are at full or near full health (on harder content). It doesn't even have damage mitigation like the Reaper has. Easiest melee dps for a beginner are by far Reaper and Samurai, while Ninja and Dragoon are probably the hardest. The aesthetics are awesome though!
I'm really glad I waited for endwalker to release before trying MNK. I was afraid I would start eating lead and crayons if I had to memorize all those positionals. Really fun job once you hit lvl 60.
DRG/RPR: 2.5 sec gcd. 2-3? positionals per minute. OGCDs easier with 2.5 gcd. RPR joke b/c also few buttons. DRG still easy but many buttons. NIN: 2.2? something gcd. More positionals. Dps window of trick attack is do-or-die. Intermediate. MNK/SAM: 2.0 (or 1.94) sec gcd. TEN (READ: 10) positionals per minute for real dps. Nightmare. Try doing ogcds during cd window with 1.94 gcd. This just how I see it. DRG/RPR can literally think 0.5sec slower, less APM. MNK is correctly highest RDPS (by a hair). I've put hours and hours into it and only now almost blue parsing. RPR is most played for a reason. RDPS wise the melee are INCREDIDBLY balanced/close, within 1% dmg of each other, at the same dps percentile (i.e. a 10th percentile NIN does within 1% of dmg of a 10th percentile RPR, a 90th percentile MNK is within 1% of a 90th percentile DRG etc) Hence, the easiest job to play is objectively best/wins. RPR. # of parses in savage: RPR: 84000 SAM 57000 DRG 45000 MNK 37000 NIN 26000 SAM is higher up despite being a bit rough b/c people like being independent and seeing big dick numbers ADPS on ACT/dmg meters. The real RDPS is actually balanced within 1%.
For "perfect optimization", monk becomes the most difficult job to perform with given how many variables of perfect balance are required to understand to keep your demolish and twin snakes up perfectly without refreshing them with only 1/2 seconds remaining + having no ranged GCD. Otherwise, its a fun, fast, and relatively flexible job. Thunderclap looks sick. Dragoons dont share armor with tanks, but they have thematic similarities early on. They start out very slow but become fun and fast-paced by level 90 without too much difficulty. Reaper imo is the easiest and just an easier dragoon overall especially with 2 ranged GCD options (harvest moon and enhanced harpe). A bit too slow for my taste, but its a very chill job and looks cool. Ninja is the busiest job due to mudras, but does have the best extension for potent continuous ranged GCDs (using mudras for ranged gcd extention may ruin your trick attack & mug windows completely so be careful!). as fun as it is busy. Sam is the GOAT for me. Simplistic Rotation, best mobility of all melee that do not drop dps. (Jump-back and gap-close on 10 second cooldowns). Simple ranged gcd extension that is not only a potency gain, but can be used as a filler window for your rotation when trying to correctly re-apply your higanbana DoT. Iaijutsu being 6 yalms is actually a huge upside during some mechanics in savage content for greeding.
Reaper is the easiest among all and second easiest would be samurai. Dragoon is hard and used to be my main. There's tons of ogcd to manage and the animation lock is a nightmare. In additional to that dragoon have a side by side positional gcd skills. I would put dragoon and monk on the same level. Ninja.. I guess the hard part is the mudra but once you get used to it then it's easy.
+1. DRG is easy on a dummy with the practice, but jumps affecting movement where MNK can basically dance around the boss makes your job a lot trickier because you have less time to do mechanics. The APM is high as well due to weaving so the slow GCD really doesn't make it that slow. None of the jobs are super hard, but I find reaper and monk much easier than the jobs with more rigid rotations and less mobility.
DRG really needs the coming rework, as much as it pains me to say. But the fact that it needs an almost 2 GCD filler before the second application of BL is kinda ridiculous.
Dragoon was the hardest job for me because of all the ogcds and how you cannot double weave with your jumps, while having 4+ jumps to work with. After that it was ninja, monk, samurai and reaper with difficultly. I played all the melee jobs and they're all great.
RPR is the only melee DPS job I haven't played yet. I feel I've had a lot more fun with the faster GCD jobs, NIN and MNK, than with the slower ones, DRG and SAM. Honestly SAM is probably my least favorite of the bunch. The rotation just doesn't feel very smooth or enjoyable to me, personally.
I've been a monk main since I started. Enjoyed samurai, reaper, and dragoon. Not much of a fan of ninja, but monk just flows naturally with my brain. Eee big brain time
For a job that is all about flying around and jumping at the enemy, DRG has the most useless close in tech out of the melees. Unless you have all of the point blank AOEs for a fight memorized, you should never hold on to Spineshatter for the sake of a gap closer and Elusive Jump should be used to greed an extra GCD before the cast goes off. IMO not having a dedicated pair to EJ makes it feel super jank. But at least it looks cool lol
I can’t get reaper yet cuz free trial but I want it so bad, aesthetically it’s everything I want and the attacks look SO cool. Even if it gets toned down for being broken or whatever I need to play that job

As someone who played wow for a decade and a half I think it's interesting that people always say Dragoon is so easy. I was not used to wearing ogcds and at 90 you're weaving one or more abilities between almost every gcd during your buffs. I like to minmax, and that made the class pretty hard for me. Reaper felt much more natural, but I've been bouncing between the two so far in Endwalker, primarily raiding as RPR. Every job is so unique and fun, someday I'll play them all. Nice summary!
Agreed! I love Dragoon's armor, the combat animations, the story (so far as I am), and the general aesthetics of the job. However, I also would not call it easy. Sure, the basic rotation is braindead, but as you said, you have to then weave in oGCGs constantly throughout that enormous rotation you have, line up buffs to maximize burst damage, and position yourself for certain attacks. I would call Reaper the easy melee job by comparison. It all just flows and makes sense.
As much as I like how Reaper looks, I almost fall asleep playing it since it's so easy to play. So I'm branching out to Samurai and so far I really like it.
I've been leveling my melee DPS and wanna agree with a lot of the assessment in the video. I personally didn't enjoy monk, ninja, or samurai so far... but Dragoon and Reaper with Reaper being #1 I felt like I was extremely useful. Ninja was rough because the 'weaving' isn't as straight forward as others b/c the chi is GCD, really caught me off guard.
Reaper looks cool, I started the Lancer in my first trial a couple years ago, couldnt navigate limsa and gave up on the game, I'm gonna try again, Reaper looks cool :D
I “main” ninja wait or was it reaper oh wait was it dancer??? Uhhhhh anyways the only melee dps that doesn’t mesh with me is samurai. If I wanted to collect stickers I’d just go to the local dollar store. Jokes aside samurai just feels weird to me. Monk on the other hand feels terrific. Imo it had too many positionals before and maybe not enough now but I still love it. I just started leveling drg last night so I’m only 81 and it doesn’t feel any different so far but I guess the rpm’s will never hit the red line again. Oh yea ninja has mud puddle snakes which is dirty
I'd like to point out that Life Surge only heals on the next weaponskill, the same one that is guaranteed to crit. This may have been what you meant but the way it was told it sounded like you were saying you got HP absorption for 5 seconds which is not the case. Like you said though, a small buff but it can make the difference in high end fights if your tanks are getting melted and healers are having trouble keeping up on party wide damage. Especially considering maiming classes have higher max HP.
You must be a weeb, you can name most of the Ninja and Samurai skills without tripping over your tongue :D Joking aside, that's a good simplification of the jobs and what they're like. Although I'm not going to pick a favorite until I have all jobs at 90, I will say that out of the Melee, Dragoon was the one I initially leveled and is the only melee at 90. Between the remaining jobs, I am enjoying Ninja at lower levels - around 60. The Jutsus are fun and allow me to feel like a Mage and a DPS
Played a ton of MMO RPGs (WoW; EsO; Gw:2; Lost Ark; D&D:O and many more,, but i didn't really invest in those, like the ones i mentioned). Always have been a melee dps, specificly rogue/assassin as long as i know myself. I didn't find any class, which fills up that role exactly. What i mean is: fast attacks, which you have to do from behind the target, and posions with finishing moves. "People say it's the NINJA da hell i'm talkin' about..." Just becuz the job got daggers and stealth it doesn't mean it's the counter part of the rogue. Never liked ninjas aside from Mortal Kombat. (Yeah Naruto is cool, but not a fan of it) Samurai feels more similar, than ninja in my opinion, cuz it's selfish; has combo "special meter"; face paced. (Yeah, i'm a "Bleach" guy). Any other game i hated Monks and probably gonna hate 'em in here as well. Dragoon is actually a really awesome idea and unqiue and i love it's mobility, but again i don't like it's "special meter". Reaper on the other hand looks amazing and i always wanted a scythe in other rpgs. In the end of the day. I'll probably level up a Dragoon, 'til i able to pick up Samurai, then i might try Reaper. So i eihter be a Samurai or Reaper main.

As much as I like how Reaper looks, I almost fall asleep playing it since it's so easy to play. So I'm branching out to Samurai and so far I really like it.
From one easy to another
Drg shares armor with tanks? Wut?
Yep at lower levels so it’s really great for beginners for extra safe job play
@@BunBossFFXIV ah yes the low loooow level
I've been leveling my melee DPS and wanna agree with a lot of the assessment in the video. I personally didn't enjoy monk, ninja, or samurai so far... but Dragoon and Reaper with Reaper being #1 I felt like I was extremely useful. Ninja was rough because the 'weaving' isn't as straight forward as others b/c the chi is GCD, really caught me off guard.
Same reaper just feels so freaking powerful
Oh yea ninja has mud puddle snakes which is dirty
lmao This had me laughing hahaha
I only play casually, but I have reaper and ninja at 90 and I really like them both. At least in dungeon content😂
Yea they are super good
I'd like to point out that Life Surge only heals on the next weaponskill, the same one that is guaranteed to crit.
While the information was really good, the pronunciations of the Japanese words for SAM and NIN were somewhat painful.
I know!! lmao
@@BunBossFFXIV good video nonetheless.
You must be a weeb, you can name most of the Ninja and Samurai skills without tripping over your tongue :D
Joking aside, that's a good simplification of the jobs and what they're like.
It’s all the anime I watch hahaha
Lmfao😂
Huh?
