I am 32 and I just started skating. There is so much to learn. I still struggle with stopping. I try the T-stop but my whole body turns around and I lose balance when I try it. I am hoping to get the game up soon. These videos definitely help. Thank you, Ricardo!!
Best tip was very straightforward rhat I gathered not long ago is to just stay real discipline with ur back foot being perpendicular to that front foot.. that 90 deg will supply the stop without spinning (also new to skating at however old being born in 1991 makes me lol)and not to be a douche but I wish I played hockey or got into aggressive even over bmx which I was obsessed with- because I can skate my ballllls off already, never too late to get active, my bmx history of course made me get into aggressive, I always envied the rare aggressive rider I’d see, my highschool had 5 towns go to it and everyone was into bmx and less were skateboarders, I knew not one aggressive rider but would envy the rare savage I saw around at parks usually a lone warrior, always wanted to do it but I think cuz at first I was too self conscious or like unsure of myself on skates so I didn’t give it the heart it took so I gave up too quickly… loved hockey and was good with a stick but felt that everyone who was real hockey player was on skates their whole life and was an expert on them so I felt too out of my league… after 20 yrs and being an ironworker walking heel to toe on a catwalk way in the air with no tie off, scaling 30 foot of column just to sit on top to catch thousands of pounds of steel some crane is swinging in- that I developed the balls and fearlessness it took to pick it up this late in life.. no more veil of self doubt that a teen has.. and I’m so nasty on them it has been a blessing and saved my mental space honestly cuz life was hitting far deep lows and then I started experiencing the kind of childlike innocent type excitement to be doing something, like a kid just learning to ride a bike all they wanna do is ride… and honestly now that the wind is back in my hair it’s also in my sails..it’s amazing and I’m so lucky that working all those years hard labor kept me in shape and gave me courage and confidence to really throw it down.. I learned skating is like 90% confidence and that’s why I was so lucky to pick it up and in no time skate like I been on wheels for a long time… still have so much room to grow but even proficiently skating around carving tight J turns and throwing deep hockey stops and crossing over my feet like fluid wit the grapevines has really supplied me with such happiness as I scraped rock bottom. Bout to cop a pair of the sway team 60s literally my next paycheck… keep pushing keep fightin keep having heart and never doubt urself when u throw moves out) keep eyes forward and ur feet will follow.kick ass homie) Edit: sorry I was responding as if u were referring to like a hockey stop I didn’t realize (lt stop,. I just throw hockey boys everywhere and chew my shit alllll up lol as a kid that’s what I wanted to do in the worst way but in ice n send the shavings lol so now I’m always throwing it just because finally the stop isn’t bullying me because I’m disciplined with my back foot now where before I didn’t have my brain in my boots , enough times spinning out trying to stop made me quit in the past, now I’m just like aight let’s go “your too old to look like your in beginner phase of ANYThING “ I would tell myself and it worked lmao
Great video, really well done. Just want to note: I've been street blading since I was 12. 30yrs later, I can stop any of the ways shown, but mastering using the standard break is by far the most reliable and safest when are are at speed. Mastering using the break means your breaking skate is fully out in front of you and your trailing skate is 100% in line behind it acting like a rudder on a boat allowing you to choose if you want to put just a little or up to nearly all your weight on the break and still control your movement. Further, having one foot fully in front and one behind allows you to do this on very rough terrain without being pitched off balance... most street surfaces are a bit less than ideal. ;) Benefits: 1) You can still control trajectory (you can still alter your direction) 2) Your breaking surface is out in front of you meaning you can put more weight (nearly all of it) on the breaking surface allowing you to stop nearly as fast as the slide/power stop but with far less risk (especially on non-ideal surfaces) 3) You can use it on imperfect surfaces 4) You are not shredding your wheels 5) You have high control over the rate of breaking The result is you have a way to break at speed, on a hill, with no room to turn, relatively quickly, even if the ground sucks. Stepping plow is the next best choice as it still captures items 1, kinda-3 (depends on how big your wheels are and how bad the ground is), 4, and 5. When I'm not at speed (medium to slow), and there is a little room, I like the "spin" stop most (split legs one blade facing forward one facing back and carve out into a slight spin). It's elegant an fun. :) And again, because you have your feet spread relative to your direction you can still do it on relatively rough ground without getting pitched. Again, I really think this is a great video, and I love how you show the way to train into the different breaking methods. For someone without breaks I would have them master the stepping plow till they can do it in their sleep. If your skates have no break that usually means you have huge wheels (100+) so most terrain will be pretty smooth and stable for you (even on one foot, which is required for this), especially if you're on 4 wheels (long base extra stability). If all you can do is a T break and you have any real speed you will not be able to come to a stop in a reasonable amount of time. If you are on a rough surface with any real speed a slide/power stop is likely to end up with you on the ground. Both will shred expensive wheels vs. a cheap break block. Having said all that, my general advice is to roller blade like you would ride a motorcycle. Assume no one can see you; assume anyone will just go right in front of you at any time. If you are going too fast to stop in time, give yourself more room or slow down until it isn't a dice roll on if you could maneuver successfully. ~C PS, Pads and a helmet (you can pick up a pack of JBMs for cheap and they are pretty decent and in a variety of colors). Especially for someone learning; will let you focus more on what you're doing vs. being terrified of falling and scraping yourself up; even smooth concrete will shave your skin off at relatively low speeds. I haven't fallen in over a decade, but at some point I will and I'd rather be able to laugh it off. Plus when teaching my kids it just sets a good example so win/win for me.
The break sounds alerts people in crowded address that you are there. I'm afraid not to have the break in California because of how crowded it is with bikes and electric scooters and bikes with motors. What paradise is this where no one is a around him? Lol
Surprised you didn’t include the power slide, which seems to me to be the best of both worlds. Some of the stability of the first 5, but some of the style and quicker stopping power that the parallel slide. Some of us older guys don’t dig falling down if we don’t have to!
Great video and thank you for not cutting that fall on the slide stop. As a beginner, it helps me to remember that even experienced skaters end up on the ground sometimes.
I am just 12 and I have a passion of skating, I am trying to learn it and I am is also struggling with the balance. Actually, for me balance is the key for skating. When I was just 9 I realized that I have a passion of skating so, when I was 10 I bought the luminous pink skates and I was very excited to try them but the first time I tried to skate I fall very and very badly. I didn't watch any video before trying them and I even don't know that what is the right position for skating 😂. But now I am sooo better then before, and I am still trying to improve it. I have fall many times because I lose my balance. But I am still trying to achieve this target. And these videos definitely help.THANK YOU, RICARDO!
I roller bladed when i was a Teenager, and the people at the "Rink" I went to said the only way to really stop was the break or the T Stop. I never got into it enough to feel everything out like you showed in the video, but the pear and stepping pear look so easy to master. I used to do the splits just for kicks when roller blading ugh. Thank you for this basic and very well done video. I just ordered a new pair for the first time in 20+ years and am getting some learning in lol. Last time I skated I had a 56k Modem to 'Surf the Web.' By God I feel older than my 37 years lol.
I am 35 now and just started skating again after 17 years of break. I bought a pair of Seba FRX. Love them. i was a bit wobbly and shakey. I couldnt do powerslide, that I could do back then. Just the face that I can still skate makes me so happy. I am gonna get the game up soon.
t-stops are the first way I learned to stop, I find it easier on ice since getting blades sharpened can be cheaper than needing new wheels depending on how much pressure you need to stop, larger frame like myself 6' and a big build I tend to just drag my foot behind me until I need a complete stop and apply firm pressure, depending on the wheel material either hard plastic or polyurethane can get shredded easier depending on the skating conditions. Best of luck on learning it.
Thank you for the video, it helped me too much, even though i still don't have a rollerblade. I will have one only in my birthday, but i've seen this video to already know some ways to stop. I've already searched for many rollerblade breaking tutorial but, the most part wasn't too good as your video was. I will save the video to when i start skating, and hope it will help me too much. I think the best ways to stop for me would be the lemon-stop and the T-stop. Congratulations from Brazil!
I love the personality you put in your demonstrations. Your videos are presented very Friendly, yet Very matter of fact and full of good content. I really enjoyed watching How to stop. Some other online videos spend too much time with “fluff” to hold my interest. I will continue to watch your videos! I’m 64 and re-learned to skate at this time of my life wheeling a dog buggy with 3 older dogs for stability and security. They love their skating excursions! We all have a great time! Im now skating (half the time) without the buggy as security, and building confidence. Thank you again for your interesting videos. Please continue to make more!!! Best to you, T
good tips. another method that people tend to forget is that you can bleed off excess speed simply by doing a series of tightish flicky turns in an S pattern, pushing the outside skate into the ground. essentially like the onion/plow method but without the problems of feet clattering into each other as each part of the S shape basically resets your stance before this happens whilst killing speed pretty effectively. this is also a good way of controlling your speed when going downhill, like a skier switching from edge to edge of the ski's
I never slide stop because the hockey style Powerslide stop gives me good breaking power with basically no chance of falling. But it definitely looks cool and Ii should practice it more.
hey Ricardo, been watching your videos for the past month or so and you have inspired me to get back into Skating. Only problem now is to get over the feet cramping :)
OMG! I know what you mean about cramping!!! I recently started skating again at 64 yo and OMG! Not my legs so much, but a deep abdominal muscle (not groin😂). That reminded me how good skating is for the core and how much I needed to continue!!! Is the cramping is gone and I’m working on stamina and form. I regularly go 6 miles a couple times a week in addition to some shorter distances. So good to clear the head! I just love it! Not sure about feet cramping. Hopefully it will also go away with time and practice. Enjoy and good luck!
I am 57yrs old and just getting back on them with son and grandson. I didn’t like that heel brake. I had no idea how to use it. My son took the brake off. I was currently using the method with feet pointing out and going in the circle. Because I’m just getting use to them again I was not comfortable with this method. My son sent me this link and I really found all of this helpful. I will not however use the last one. lol thank you!
So glad you have this video here. I needed to brush up on stopping since I just picked mine up again after 18 years 😂 I can go just fine. But I don't want to eat cr** trying to stop full speed ahead😊
If I need to stop fast, I jump 180 degrees backwards, then do a reverse T stop :) The only issue with this is, I can't use it on my speed skates as the risk of braking my ankle is real :) ( if there's too much grip :) ) It's been 5 year or so ago since I used my speed skates, watching you your channel makes me want to buy some urban skates once again. I love that PS is making use or torx now, I always destroyed the hex axles :)
new skater here, wanted to lose weight, your and other's videos have been very helpful to inspire me to not be afraid and just buy some today. thank you :D
Lmao I’ve been skating for years but always relied on a break, today I bought a pair of endurance pro 125s and they’re hella quick lol, no break though, Hope your tips help! I’m off to practice in couple hrs haha Thanks bro!
I used to play ice hockey all the time. I now try and walk/bike more often but I wanna get started rollerblading to *mostly* keep my hockey skills in check.
As being a goon in hockey for all the years I played off and on, my only way of stopping was body checking 80% of the time other than a t-stop... Not gonna lie since I got back into skating after a several year hiatus I need to learn to powerslide or slide stop, especially on ice since I was never an edge skater. Appreciate the more depth into detail than some try to give, outside hockey players trying to give advice.
Props for skating for so long, and for all the ways to stop. Started skating in the early 90's but never learned to stop well, gave it up in 2000's, I agree that stopping was one of the biggest reasons. Other reasons are, where do you put your skates when you get to the store, restaurant, work. Now I have to carry my shows with me, swap to them, and carry my skates with me.
In the 80’s, I’d carry skinny flip flops in my Fanny pack and sling the skates over my shoulder shoelaces tied together. I may try doing it again. May opt for Teks since Fanny packs are so much smaller these days. Not sure. But nice to skate to one’s destination “fer sure”!
So funny this video came up. I been skating most of my life aggressively. I road for Andy, and Geoff at one time so cessslides and stopping wasn't even thought of. Now with plates in my ankles and had ACL replacements, I ended up going too fast and I just couldn't cess slide, so I had to T stop... Felt so weird, like it wasn't 2nd nature anymore. Still was fun yet weird that this was never even on my mind ever lol
So awesome thank you!! I wish I saw this video like 15 years ago! Haha I never learned to stop, I just used objects to skate into lol. I guess that’s the 7th way 😜
i was on quads but i think i feel better with inline and want to do a lot of off road stuff, your videos are helpful. i love your boots and want something like that with bigger wheels. they look darn expensive though
Oh man, after seeing this video. I wanna buy inline skates. I know how to skate, I thought before those kinds of break styles are for show offs. Lol. But now I know why. Good job Sir teaching us how to break properly. Keep up the good work!
Skating inline for years now, used to doing indoor skating but I’ve progressed to outdoors in the years of late. I do a mixture of stopping depending on the situation I’m in. I like lemon, heel brake, and variations of curls (carving/turning). 😌I’m trying to learn t-stop but struggling with weight distribution. 😅 Still too nervous about speed increase to even reach a point where I need to attempt slide stopping 😂
This was great. Clear, thorough, to the point, and entertaining. I’m binge watching videos about rollerblading while i save up to buy a pair, and your video is my favorite tutorial so far.
I have slide stopped quite a bit they are definitely harder to control because of the friction. I have also done pivots to inside to outside Mohawks which changes the direction that you are heded
anytime your sliding wheels, yes, it will wear them. probably about the same amount overall as t-stop. will say though that sliding both feet tends to be a bit of a last resort way of braking unless you're just kinda doing it to show off, as it stops you super quick but getting it wrong is 100% gonna lead to you falling, so in situations where you're forced into slidestopping you probably wont mind a bit of wheel wear to avoid smashing into something
Thanks yor tutorial is so easy to understand that me and my son learned so fast to skate....can you give tips how to skate continuously rotating and skating on small space (inside my home there is no playable space outside) i have 8*3 m space
With the slide stop is there a recommended wheel hardness? Because I always seem to grip and never slide. I'm using speed skates if that makes a difference and outside on rough roads or trails. 125mm
I learned to snow ski before I ever even heard anything f in-line skates. I applied all the methods of snow skiing to inline. Depending on the speed I’m going depends on which method I use. Typically it’s a couple quick S-turns or a skid stop. Sometime doing a spin to stop. Typically I’m not on the streets but rather a rink or sport court type floor.
If you search Roces M12 you'll see a few reviews from Lino on this channel. I'm not sure if you're aware, but it's the same boot they just change the colours. 👍
I’m getting my FIRST own blades this Thursday. Question: When I go to roller rinks, I feel my feet/ankles sink inwards, is that the correct feeling when wearing rollerblades? Thank you!
Nice Video, I like that Boot, can you tell me which boot it is. I am looking for a new Boot at the Moment my favorite one is the Powerslide HC EVO 2021 do you have other recommandations?
All these ways are good, but mostly in the surface without slope. I tried doing that from hills and I fell down all the time. Cause it is absolutely different thing - to stop from the hill and to stop in some horizontal path....
I have brakes on my skates which i don't use anymore mainly because it's almost worn out and I don't see a need to replace since I can stop in other ways. But for me on my 90mm wheel K2 skates it feels better balance wise having the brake attachment on my skates so I don't take it off. The only time I feel I would ever use my heel brake is when Im going on a super steep downhill I would be generating way too much speech. I mainly use the curling stop or the hockey stop as its also called.

Further, having one foot fully in front and one behind allows you to do this on very rough terrain without being pitched off balance... most street surfaces are a bit less than ideal. ;)
Benefits:
1) You can still control trajectory (you can still alter your direction)
2) Your breaking surface is out in front of you meaning you can put more weight (nearly all of it) on the breaking surface allowing you to stop nearly as fast as the slide/power stop but with far less risk (especially on non-ideal surfaces)
3) You can use it on imperfect surfaces
4) You are not shredding your wheels
5) You have high control over the rate of breaking
The result is you have a way to break at speed, on a hill, with no room to turn, relatively quickly, even if the ground sucks.
I like to focus most on this method, as well as method #5 from the video, because you also practice making sharp turns in general.
Turning 33 and just got into skating. Wish me good luck! ❤
How it was ? All the best !
Slide to stop is the population.. The best way to stop and fast.. Thanks Lino.. 😊👍
i like combining the t-stop with the normal brake, i also have my normal brake set up quite high so i can really lean back and brake fast
I never slide stop because the hockey style Powerslide stop gives me good breaking power with basically no chance of falling. But it definitely looks cool and Ii should practice it more.
Thank You so much i just bought a skate and this will help me most to enjoy skating
hey Ricardo, been watching your videos for the past month or so and you have inspired me to get back into Skating.
This was really useful ✨ thanks, im not a begginer but it was a good vid to watch, i learned 1 other way to brake
My first skates since like....2000...are out for delivery right now (FR FR1s). I can't wait to be sore all over again!
Thanks for the great content!
Thanks Ricardo. Thanks to you I am now aware I can actually stop. Tried out the lemon stop tonight and it works well.
As a new skater I started with slide/hockey stop but that stepping plow looks too scary to try!
new skater gang (though you’re more advanced than me by 4 weeks lol.)
So glad you have this video here. I needed to brush up on stopping since I just picked mine up again after 18 years 😂
I can go just fine. But I don't want to eat cr** trying to stop full speed ahead😊
I wish I never stopped skating in the late 90's. K2 skates with shark skin was life.
Get some new skates!!!! I picked it up again and I was moving and grooving in no time !!
I’m off to practice in couple hrs haha
Thanks bro!
brother thanks , am started to skating , now learning how to break. nice...
I used to play ice hockey all the time. I now try and walk/bike more often but I wanna get started rollerblading to *mostly* keep my hockey skills in check.
Nice! You are an inspiration.
I’m 26 and put my skates back on after 2 years to improve fitness. I wore out my heel brake, so it’s no good. This helped a ton
The breakdown at the beginning about the lemon is priceless
So funny this video came up. I been skating most of my life aggressively. I road for Andy, and Geoff at one time so cessslides and stopping wasn't even thought of. Now with plates in my ankles and had ACL replacements, I ended up going too fast and I just couldn't cess slide, so I had to T stop... Felt so weird, like it wasn't 2nd nature anymore. Still was fun yet weird that this was never even on my mind ever lol
So awesome thank you!! I wish I saw this video like 15 years ago! Haha I never learned to stop, I just used objects to skate into lol. I guess that’s the 7th way 😜
me too, just jump on the grass and tumble : )
Same here, it's not the safest but it's better than doing nothing to stop. 😂
i was on quads but i think i feel better with inline and want to do a lot of off road stuff, your videos are helpful. i love your boots and want something like that with bigger wheels. they look darn expensive though
Oh man, after seeing this video. I wanna buy inline skates. I know how to skate, I thought before those kinds of break styles are for show offs. Lol. But now I know why. Good job Sir teaching us how to break properly. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much! this will really help me with my roller blading and my ice skating!
thank you !
i was playing skate for too long time like 5y or something and now i learn how to stop lol
Então vai, bora lá 🇧🇷❤️
It’s funny that even tho I’m not into rollerblading or ice skating I’ve always naturally used the T stop to slow down
Thanks for the video dude. I just skated for the 4th or 5th time today. This was super helpful.
I use the compas version but also a t stop indoors. It is much more stable on floors that are too slippery or too grippy
Excellent explanation with the compass as an example!
This was great. Clear, thorough, to the point, and entertaining. I’m binge watching videos about rollerblading while i save up to buy a pair, and your video is my favorite tutorial so far.
my pair was only 60$, those are the ones you should be buying first
@@shrb1198 i got some used ones for 25. They dont pass yalls reccomendations but im learning my balance
42, getting back in. Cheers!
Do you have a video explaining the “Ferrari” skates you are wearing?
I love the large wheels and current skates are just shy of very well supported.
I have slide stopped quite a bit they are definitely harder to control because of the friction. I have also done pivots to inside to outside Mohawks which changes the direction that you are heded
Thank God I'm a figure skater. The toe stops will save me when I first get into inlines.. X'D
Best tutorial on stopping. Thanks!
Don't sliding stops eat your wheels as well? Or is it way less than a t-stop?
anytime your sliding wheels, yes, it will wear them. probably about the same amount overall as t-stop. will say though that sliding both feet tends to be a bit of a last resort way of braking unless you're just kinda doing it to show off, as it stops you super quick but getting it wrong is 100% gonna lead to you falling, so in situations where you're forced into slidestopping you probably wont mind a bit of wheel wear to avoid smashing into something
gonna try it tomorrow. seems very usefull. thanks ricardo!
Genuine cool and passionate guy, well done Lino. Is that 4x100 setup?
4x110 Endless prototypes. Love them
@@RicardoLino MADNESS! :D
It's looks like awesome set up. I want to try it!
@@james-ted-garland I’ve been loving my Endless 110s 🔥🤙
Love my NN Ronin V.m. (4x100mm) frames.
Really good video. I am going to buy one of your skates!
Great video quality and well-spoken descriptions.
Currently watching this while on roller skates
EDIT: IT WORKED
Awesome clear direction. Thank you
Thanks yor tutorial is so easy to understand that me and my son learned so fast to skate....can you give tips how to skate continuously rotating and skating on small space (inside my home there is no playable space outside) i have 8*3 m space
CARAAAACA, MANO!!!
Só percebi que era BR nos 7:11 ("Então vai, bora lá!")
Parabéns pela aula e pelo ingês inpecável!
Thanks for the great video Ricardo. Very helpful. What kind of skate boots and frames are you wearing? They look very nice!
I needed that bc the brakes on my inline skates broke of today
Não posso, a marginal de sines!!! Comprei uns patins e pensei que era melhor dar uma refrescada 😅, adoro o teu canal bravo.
That fall was great! Thanks for the laugh 🙏🏻
You´re a good teacher. Keep it up !
Thank you Ricardo! Super! Loved this one! Definitely needed this!
With the slide stop is there a recommended wheel hardness? Because I always seem to grip and never slide. I'm using speed skates if that makes a difference and outside on rough roads or trails. 125mm
That’s more a problem of your technique and not the wheels, 84A and up is perfect for slides 👌
try changing the angle your leg is at and how straight it is. check out bill stoppard
Inspiring video..
..as i want to become skating
We like sir. Because you are giving us knowledge ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Well you be doing a review of those roces skates? They come in super fun colors and I trust your reviews!
If you search Roces M12 you'll see a few reviews from Lino on this channel. I'm not sure if you're aware, but it's the same boot they just change the colours. 👍
@@chilli-iceolive-abode2447 Thank you so much!
Great video
That fall you did in the beginning literally JUST happened to me 😅
I’m getting my FIRST own blades this Thursday. Question: When I go to roller rinks, I feel my feet/ankles sink inwards, is that the correct feeling when wearing rollerblades? Thank you!
Boss Man Ricardo Lino Yeah baby! Shout OUT from viva LAS VEGAS!!! WE ARE GLOBAL BABY!!!
This was very helpful
Thank you.. Keep going..
👍👍👍
Working on that parallel still!
My powerslide is ok so I'm moving onto magic. Very early days still. Don't have the balls for parallel.
Nice Video, I like that Boot, can you tell me which boot it is. I am looking for a new Boot at the Moment my favorite one is the Powerslide HC EVO 2021 do you have other recommandations?
Amazing instructions man! Thank you!
Didn’t know that Adam Sandler is that good at this. Great tutorial!
You could do a video analyzing the way Felipe Zambardino does to stop. What you think?
At first when I wanted to buy my skates I was scared how to balance not how to stop but it turned out that it was pretty easy
great video! what kind of skates are you wearing (without the brakes) ?
Thank you sir for this video. I realy like this video and I am you're fan. I learn this video.
Thank's for video.
All these ways are good, but mostly in the surface without slope. I tried doing that from hills and I fell down all the time. Cause it is absolutely different thing - to stop from the hill and to stop in some horizontal path....
The intro is so cute!!!!!!!
I mainly use the curling stop or the hockey stop as its also called.
sick video man! very nice put together. and those 4x110 when are they releasing 😅🔥?
Thank you :)
I’m not sure when they will be released but I love them with these boots and wheels ❤️
They should be available sometime mid-late summer.
@@endlessblading niceee. Can’t wait! I hope I can get my hands on the first batch tho!😁🤙🏽
