The best advice I can give is to just wear them, wear until you start feeling it natural with it. Stand up and do little steps by step while holding on, do the exercise shown in this video. Take a break and sit, then go back. Do this until it start feeling natural, you’ll start getting good results. Don’t rush, just know that this will be something that will take days.
I'm getting back into inline skating after 20 years and I'd always use wrist guards..they saved me from shattering my wrists many times in the past. First instinct when you fall is to put your hands out, the guards absorb and redistribute the force going into your wrists... Excellent video.
@@SASPayne1D that's the point 😊 when the wrist skid, although it might make you hit with elbows etc they prevent the wrist catching which is what usually makes it fracture. just like mc gloves are designed for us bikers. you want to skid along because the slower you stop, granted your kit is good enough to not rip off the less blunt force trauma you get.
I read your comment amd still figured I wasn't gonna do much with the skates on and before I knew it I hit the concrete hard with my feet in the air. Luckily I didn't hit the back of my head. Definitely sprained my wrists. Now I am scared of skating
I am a beginner and I realised yesterday that keeping my body leaning forward with knees bent helps me find my balance faster. Also keeping the blades slanting outwards helps in the same respect. And keeping arms in front of my eyes helped a lot too.
thank you so much for this how-to!! my dad bought my first pair of inlines when i was 15 (thought i was gonna learn roller hockey eventually), but due to my poor balance, fear of injury, and general weeniness, the skates collected dust instead. half way through this video, i was able to push with my foot and hold all my weight on the other, skating across my bedroom. it's late at night and im sure ill wake somebody up if i continue, but im having so much fun. i'm 23 now and im very excited to finally put these skates to good use!
Just a suggestion on wrist guards: Absolutely get them. I was an avid rollerblader in the VERY early days of its resurgence in the very early 90s. We did handrails, big steps, halfpipe and bowls and just a whole lot of random stuff. You have wheels on your feet. This is fine for when you fall forward. But when you are just starting to learn, you are not only learning to skate but you are also learning to fall. And one of the most dangerous and extremely common mistakes is falling backwards. Your will automatically throw out your hands and try to stop your fall, arms straight and essentially take your whole body weight + momentum force on your wrists. They will break. This is the most common 'serious' injury that I have witnessed, repeatedly. From beginners to experts.
I looked so dumb trying to ice skate this winter so I’m going to practice over my winter college break and try to translate what I learn from rollerblades onto the ice rink, thanks for the video I’m going to use all of your tips 🙂

Great video!! It was a great help for my 4 teenagers!! They followed all your recommendations and were skating in no time. However, I would still recommend using the wrist guards... I purchased all the safety equipment, however, they all removed the wrist guard as you mentioned it gives zero wrist mobility... After 1 hour, my youngest (14) felt on her wrist and ended up with a fracture and a cast for 3 weeks! Ouch!
Glad I could help! Sorry for the injury though- get well soon! Yeah wrists guards really still have me undecided; I guess it’s also because I’m from a hockey background and you can’t hold a stick if you use them.
I’m 25 and payed hockey for 9 years and never knew how to roller skate for some reason. Just bought a pair of marsblades and teaching myself. This video helps alot
For anyone wondering about wrist guards. His hypothesis about it forcing other types of injuries is correct, as I fell backwards as a kid with these on and they caused a double fracture in my forearm at the end of the wrist guard. I recommend going with protective gloves to help with falls :)
Im 20 trying to get into hockey and its hard to find ice around me consistently and i just got some inline skates to be able to train more often so this is really helpful
11 year old here! My school offers scating lessons but it doesn't start till next month, and in order to join u need to atleast know the basics. This was really helpful :) It's currently my second day-
Thank you for sharing this video. This is my first time ever riding inline skates and your tutorial was very helpful to me- so glad I viewed it before starting! I’m having a blast!
Marcel's Hockey School I know it’s a big ask, but could you maybe do a short video on a couple of different stopping techniques specifically for inline hockey? Most tutorials I find are more for generic skating, but I’m sure that some of the techniques make little sense on the fiel.
BigTwitchy I will try to find someone to do this for next summer- because I’ve had a lot of requests for this but I can’t actually properly “stop” on rollerblades myself. Rollerblading is more of a summer hobby for me- I’m much better on ice skates 😃
This was great. Much better than any I’ve seen for a beginner like me. Well, I haven’t skated since middle school. This mama is just getting back into skating to try it out and to be active with my kids. But I’m finding it hard to get started again. Plus. I think it’s mentally as well. I don’t want to injure myself too badly. But I will definitely watch this again and work on my form. Thanks!
Last spring/summer spent on inline skates online tutorials like this one.. then started ice hockey beer leqgue with friends. 52 years on back wasn't obstackle. If you're dedicated you'll enjoy. And yes-wear always protective gear;-)
To be honest, this video was very helpful.I am only 10 years old,and thus video made me better at this.I started skating yesterday and now I'm better at it.Thank you
Thanks for this tutorial. I just bought my very first inline scates and am so excited to roll😁 I am nearly 40, I love to dance and I wish to learn inline figure skating. 😀💃
as a biker (mc) I can tell you right now the wrist guards are a god send. they might not be exactly like a mc set of gloves. but the premice is the same, you want the plastic protector to skid along the asphalt completely preventing road rash, and a very common fracture forc accide TS where the skin simply catches on the ashphalt, grips too much and twists your wrist 180 degrees the wrong way. a stiff one also helps prevent that fracture
I’m not a beginner but I am just getting into skating again ( after I broke my arm doing the regular skates but don’t judge they were tight lol ) now I just got a new pair just like the ones in the video and at first it was kids hard but after watching this it was a lot easier.
This helped me sm! As an 11 year old with nothing to do but play video games and go to school this really helps! I just got roller skates today and wanted to learn to use them.
I just got my skates yesterday and I just laced this so this is a huge help! I'm working on carpet right now cause I just got my protective gear but I feel like I should work on building a better foundation before I go outside. I'm gonna work on all these things beforehand because I have no foundation at all.
For those with Carpal tunnel syndrome or had injuries to their wrist before, wrist guard is very VERY important. I had a fall with and without wrist guard, i couldn't move my wrist for day when i fell without and on the otherhand, with a wrist guard i only had scrapes on my arms but no major pain on my wrist.
Really amazing video. Everything we need to get started as a beginner and feel comfortable. Practicing these for last two days and I'm getting really good at this.
Thank you so much for teaching step by step. I'm a beginner to the rollerblade and I just followed your video yesterday. it was really hard to manage in the bigging and I was going backward, but I tried my best and thought that I could do it. I think I should set my mind first. Thank you so much

@@MarcelsHockeySchool oh good. My ankles just feel week and wobbly. I was hoping it’d get better.
@@crosisofborg5524 same man they won't stop wobbling 😭
For anyone wondering about wrist guards. His hypothesis about it forcing other types of injuries is correct, as I fell backwards as a kid with these on and they caused a double fracture in my forearm at the end of the wrist guard. I recommend going with protective gloves to help with falls :)
Oh thank you so much I just started you are the best I’m subscribing
Thanks for subscribing and I’m glad I could help you out!😊👍
Im 20 trying to get into hockey and its hard to find ice around me consistently and i just got some inline skates to be able to train more often so this is really helpful
That's great! Glad I could help!
tysm i've been learning and now im getting better!!
Glad I could help you out!
11 year old here! My school offers scating lessons but it doesn't start till next month, and in order to join u need to atleast know the basics. This was really helpful :)
It's currently my second day-
That’s great! I’m glad that I could help!
Really. Out of all this was the best!
I‘m so glad to hear that :)
Thank you for sharing this video. This is my first time ever riding inline skates and your tutorial was very helpful to me- so glad I viewed it before starting! I’m having a blast!
I’m glad I could help!
This is the tutorial I’ve been waiting for!
BigTwitchy that’s awesome to hear!
The same goes for me!. Thank you Marcel.
@@TorontoRealtor416 you’re welcome!
Thanks!
Glad I could help you out! Have fun getting back into it!
Dankeschön. Skate zwar schon etwas länger, bin aber immernoch ein Anfänger. ^^'
Bitte schön!
Last spring/summer spent on inline skates online tutorials like this one.. then started ice hockey beer leqgue with friends. 52 years on back wasn't obstackle.
If you're dedicated you'll enjoy. And yes-wear always protective gear;-)
Glad you started up. It’s never too late!
This tutorial was great!!! It helped me a lot!!! Thank you!
Glad I could help!
i like how you talk about how, as a beginner, things arent as important as you may think, and as long as you roll its good enough for a beginner
Thanks! Yeah my goal is to get you going; the rest doesn’t matter right now!
i can barely stand on them without my feet twisting but this video was really useful
Glad I could help out! Keep working hard, you'll get there- it just takes practice!
How's it going?
To be honest, this video was very helpful.I am only 10 years old,and thus video made me better at this.I started skating yesterday and now I'm better at it.Thank you
That’s awesome! Glad I could help, and have fun!
I'm actually soo happy to learn. My dad finally buy a pair of inline skates, but I have to wait 5 days till Christmas to be able to use them.
I hope you’ll have fun with them and Merry Christmas!
This was so amazing and helpful! Thanks, Marcel! I just got a pair or roller blades, I'll be doing these soon!!
Glad I could help out! Have fun on your blades!
This video is so useful, i'm glad i watched it before first try. I can skate a little already after one hour practicing.
That’s awesome!
Glad I could help you out!
Wow, very detailed teaching video, give you very big thumb up. I will practise with my little son together tomorrow following this video.
Thanks a lot and have fun with your practice!
I used to use in lines but I haven’t in soo long! And I’m going skating today!!
Have fun!
Thanks for this tutorial. I just bought my very first inline scates and am so excited to roll😁 I am nearly 40, I love to dance and I wish to learn inline figure skating. 😀💃
Awesome! Have fun!
as a biker (mc) I can tell you right now the wrist guards are a god send. they might not be exactly like a mc set of gloves. but the premice is the same, you want the plastic protector to skid along the asphalt completely preventing road rash, and a very common fracture forc accide TS where the skin simply catches on the ashphalt, grips too much and twists your wrist 180 degrees the wrong way. a stiff one also helps prevent that fracture
really wonderfull teachings ...im just on beginers level and every lil knowledge is due and important
Glad I could help you out!
Im going into 8th grade and wanted to try something new. Thanks for this tutorial, it only took a day to start skating slowly.
Great to hear! Glad I could help!
Woah same!
I’m not a beginner but I am just getting into skating again ( after I broke my arm doing the regular skates but don’t judge they were tight lol ) now I just got a new pair just like the ones in the video and at first it was kids hard but after watching this it was a lot easier.
I‘m glad it helped you out!
Learning at 16! Hoping to be good enough soon to hit the skate park in the summer. Thankyou for the tutorial it was super helpful ^__^
You’re welcome and good luck!
Searching for better videos of instructions for beginners. And I'm glad see this. Big help!
Glad I could help!
This helped me sm! As an 11 year old with nothing to do but play video games and go to school this really helps! I just got roller skates today and wanted to learn to use them.
Glad I could help and rollerblading is much better than playing video games!
I really like the pace at which you teach and the practice you have us do! Great video
Thanks a lot! I’m glad you liked the vid!
Thank you for confidence.
I did it in first time without falling. Beginner & age 30.
You’re welcome! Glad I could help!
I just got my skates yesterday and I just laced this so this is a huge help! I'm working on carpet right now cause I just got my protective gear but I feel like I should work on building a better foundation before I go outside. I'm gonna work on all these things beforehand because I have no foundation at all.
Good luck! Take it slowly; if you're still not confident, working on the carpet is totally fine!
@@MarcelsHockeySchool That means a lot to me, thank you! Yeah definitely carpet for me for a while but I'm really exciting to learn! :D Thank you!
Thank you I’m 7 and it’s my b day today and I got them so it really hellped
Happy Birthday and I‘m glad I could help you!
This video gives ALOT of help and its really is for beginners.
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
So nice! Love to watch. I am now so much obsessed about skates
Glad you liked it!
I'm starting from zero and this is really helpful. Thank you
You’re most welcome! Have fun!
Really amazing video. Everything we need to get started as a beginner and feel comfortable. Practicing these for last two days and I'm getting really good at this.
Glad I could help you out!
Hey Marcel, einen ganz, ganz tollen Kanal hast du hier! Danke für deine tollen und informativen Videos. Hast einen neuen Abonennten!
Super! Freue mich dass ich dir helfen könnte!
Thank you so much for teaching step by step. I'm a beginner to the rollerblade and I just followed your video yesterday. it was really hard to manage in the bigging and I was going backward, but I tried my best and thought that I could do it. I think I should set my mind first.
Thank you so much
You’re most welcome! I’m glad I could help!

Thank you so much for teaching me...you are the best ....
I'm following your video only and still the first lesson. Improving day by day...yesterday I did 3 big round and at the last round I fall down back way..but still i got up and tried my best
As a beginner of rollerblade , what should I do when there is a bump on the road?most of the time i'm falling bcz of that....😁😬
Thank you so much 😊
@@rahnasheriff2636 I‘m very happy that my lessons are helping you! Bumps on the road giving you problems are normal. You get used to it. Or you need to skate around the bump
Started three sessions ago. I couldn’t stand in my first session 😅😅 but was able to walk in my second and third session without falling. Going for my 4th session today.
Cool! Have fun!
My first pair of skates just came in today, very excited to git gud at this.
