    Hi Matte, trying to learn Gypsy woman by Don Williams, and I have the cords but stuck on the strumming pattern. I am 62yrs old and starting the guitar again. I sing on the circuit in Wales and England UK and I'm trying to learn some of my easy songs before we are aloud back on stage again. This covid is deverstating for us entertainers here. At least I have got my guitar and a fantastic teacher (YOU)!! PLEASE CAN YOU HELP. I AM SO SORRY I CAN'T pay for your course as with all gigs cancelled for the foreseeable future I have little money coming in. Please keep what you are doing it's fantastic. Stay safe and take care mate. Stage name David Haydn. 🎸🎸🎤🎤🎼🎵🎶

    Hey Matt- thanks so much for this lesson! I am really struggling with strumming. I am left-handed, but I have started out playing right-handed. Maybe that is some of my strumming problems? I have learned a lot of chords and can switch them pretty easily, but this strumming gets me. My husband has played for 40+ years (I’m 53). He watches your videos too, and earlier this week he learned the easy C chord that you teach! He said that he wasn’t aware of it and you have helped him too! I was ready to quit until I found your lessons. Now I have hope. I tried to play several years ago, got frustrated and quit. I have RA also so my hands won’t cooperate much. Thanks again and please do even more on strumming and holding the pick. What are your thoughts on playing right-handed while being left- handed?

    • @CountrySongTeacher
      @CountrySongTeacher  4 роки тому

      hmmm....that's odd. i would think you would want to switch. I've never heard of someone doing that. interesting.

      I’m a lefty and can’t sing and strum a pattern at the same time. The best advice I got from Matt is to loose the pick and strum with the timing of the song not a pattern. Now I can play and sing several songs. Good luck.

    Is there an alternate fingering for the Em chord? I am having a hard time with this one. I can get it to sound clear on my electirc guitar, but on my acoustic (1979 Yamaha) it's buzz city. I've had a set up done on the Yamaha, and put on lighter strings, and I can get your other easy 4 chords but not this one.
    Any advice?
    Thank you btw for this channel, and you acoustic selection channel. Lots of good stuff and keeps me motivated to learn.

    What's the best way to find the timing of each song?

    • @jc5604
      @jc5604 7 років тому

      Tap your foot (or snap or clap or nod your head) to snare drum hits. Those are your beat indicators for the song and for the band. Don't get confused by fancy drum play, something is there telling the rest of the band to play at this certain beat. The most common method is two snare hits per bar. 4 beats in a bar. 16 bars in a verse.
      I have a habit of counting bars with my fingers. Index is beat 1 and pinky is beat 4. Each rotation through the fingers is one bar. Then I transition to the foot once I have the timing. Eventually you'll figured it out within seconds.
      Knowing how to count bars is essential in chord changing. Very famous people still tap their feet to keep count.

      I think it's a Washburn EA36 Marquee from the 90's. Sharp cutaway Festival Series --- Birdseye maple body Mahogany (14 Fret) ---- Neck & Headstock Rosewood (23 Fret) ---- Fingerboard Slot Sound Hole Rosewood ---- bridge 9 sound channel slots .... Mother of Pearl Diamond Fret Markers w/Black Dot Side Markers ---- Washburn Equis II Electronics¼" and XLR Balanced Outputs.
