Something a former coworker told me once: "Making is a lot like brushing your teeth. People won't congratulate you for doing it, but they're sure going to notice if you don't."
"recreating KH2s game feel is not nearly as simple as one might think" the game came out in 2005 and I still didn't find a single game since then that was able to do that. I imagine recreating that is the hardest part, so hard in fact that kingdom hearts itself couldn't recreat it lol. But the way you are hitting enemies in the air......holy shit, this gives me goosebumps! I believe in you!
6:30 Insane. Absolutely insane. The uppercut sword attack animation is fucking masterful dude. The intensity of the sword swing is so strong that it looks like your character would be lifted off the ground, but right before that happens he pulls his left fist down to counteract the momentum, leaving you with this sick, strong, wide stance pose. I can’t stop replaying it lol Keep up the great work man, seriously.
6:33 god the impact on that slash looked really good, looking forward to the release of this game (when i'm an old man in his 80s of course). Jokes aside take your time I actually attempted making a kh like game on godot a few months back after seeing your first video and it didn't end up too well... I'm planning on trying again once I have a better understanding of the engine and coding in general, but until then i'll live vicariously through your game development
I've followed the development of MMXCorrupted for well over a decade at this point, I shall continue to be unreasonably loyal to even the most obscure of indie/fangames that catch my eye, no matter how long it takes them to release.
Seeing you scrap and cancel and iterate in Devlog 1 is what made me back you more than the cool concept! Art is a process, and games are art. The fact that you're constantly reworking and evaluating things makes me more excited than any glossed up prerendered cutscene would. Keep up the great work!
I'm studying games design right now and there's something one of my lectures said that I feel is relevant to this: if you do a good job, no one will notice, if you do a bad job, it will be super noticeable. What you've achieved in a year as one person in your free time is impressive. Keep at it, I'm looking forward to seeing how this game turns out.
"For those of you out there that want to make games, you have a home for that now on Twitch. You have this category for you to do that. And it doesn't mean you have to make an amazing game. You just have to make YOUR game. Make it bad. It's okay. And then make a better one, and just keep doing it. So I can't wait to play what you guys make." -PirateSoftware at the Streamer Awards Your game won't be perfect, but the real game will always be the fun you have along the way.
I've been reading your posts on and off on Patreon, but it's good to hear from you here too. A lot of times making stuff is frustrating and takes way more time than you want, but the emotional satisfaction just can't be beat. Wishing you the best, Moth. EDIT: Oh geeze, I hope you can get those medical funds together, kidney failure is not a fuckin joke.
"I have a lot of fun coding!" it is honestly so strange that this is the first time i've ever heard a gamedev on youtube say that and (probably) mean it
Congrats on sticking with the project and hammering out progress. I know it can be slow going sometimes but you've made massive progress for someone relatively new to GameDev & UE. I can't wait to see where you go with this game.
okay not going to lie though that combo you showed off, the one thing you got done in a whole year? it looks so good. Like, just looking at that, I'm like "Oh my god I want it I want to do that" like it just hits me right there in the Vibes. Like. A+ on that. Great work.
Maybe you could release Velle's campaign as a DLC once you've released the first campaign and have better experience. Or a sequel, either way I would 100% be into watching devlogs on it. I've been contemplating attempting to code a game recently, but considering I have minimal coding knowledge and have only ever worked in Python, I doubt I would be able to work on it. I've started and scrapped countless projects in RPG Maker, and have yet to ever actually be satisfied with anything, and RPG Maker has all of the mechanics already coded.
Wow i was really surprised to dee you post again! Thought it was only a gamedev who never finished like the majority on youtube, btw this game looks fantastic based on the models and overrall art style! I wish you goodluck with everything else in the game, and already want to play it soon! (Rlly good music taste in the outro cybermilk chan's songs are bangers)
Good to still see you going strong! I want to support the project to the best of my ability, despite not interacting much with the small community built around it so far. I hope things are able to proceed smoothly transitioning into a new phase of development! Good luck!
I subbed back when I saw the first devlog because 1. I love kh and want more games like it and 2. You were very grounded about the process of game dev, which gave me hope you wouldn't end up like the other game dev tubers who quit
glad to hear you're still working on this, i'm pretty excited to see what you make. As for scraping one of the characters and their story i think that's fine, maybe she can come back as a DLC or something if the game sells well enough for that
This project is seriously so cool man, I've been following this since you posted the PS2 texture look for substance painter(that helped me out a ton through my modeling class last year)keep going man! We'll be here whenever you decide to post again!
As someone who's started posting devlog's for my "dream game" I'm really nervous about how things are going to go when I have to get down and dirty with back end stuff and updates will be less visual, especially since I'm trying to post a devlog a month to keep myself on track, so it's actually super encouraging to see I'm not alone in this! Best of luck with everything!
BRC soundtrack mentioned anyway i love how the visual aspect of the game is, you really have taste. great job in the game dev journey, i love games with a direction in mind
Just got pushed this video today, good on you for focusing more on the underlying functionality necessary for a good game feel. I see far too many UA-camrs who get a successful devlog and suddenly the game itself seems to become second to making cool stuff for videos. It takes lot of hard work and dedication to put the axe to the grinder for so long with nothing visible to show. I do wish there was a way to show off code advancements though, personally I find myself wishing there was a way I could show my friends my development since they don't actually understand code
Crazy to see you make another video after a year! I am happy to see that you're still doing this project and haven't given up on it, I was honestly worried since I've wanted to see this project come to life ever since I first found your devlog
As someone working on their own game, watching videos like this fill me with this strange mixture of excitement and dread. Excitement because simply coming up with and theory crafting systems is incredibly fun, but an almost overwhelming sense of dread due to, what I feel, is my own inadequacy. Looking at something like this there's always that little voice in the back of my head that screams out that I will never be able to make something that cool or fun, and that when compared to the talents, of what feels like, everyone else in the space, that there isn't a point for my game to exist, and it simply wont be good enough for probably even myself to enjoy at the end of the day. It's a strange mixture of being awe inspired and a completely defeatist attitude.
as sad as i am about velle's campaign being cut, i absolutely understand the necessity of streamlining and, alternatively, feature creep. would be cool if she was part of a later expansion/dlc/update, after everything is sorted and moth is happy with their progress :)
i find this game months after learning the ins and outs of godot to make my own dream game which is also similar to KH! (though i'm going for more of a re-coded/BBS type feel...) I've never coded a damn thing before and it's certainly proving to be difficult but seeing how much progress you and demidevi have made gives me hope that my dream game could come to fruition. may our hearts be our guiding key.
The ol' UA-cam algorithm just recommended me this video and starting to feel a little called out with how long it's been since my last devlog for my own project lol But yeah, I'm running into a lot of the same problems of "Stuff's getting done, it's just either not interesting or I don't want to set unrealistic expectations/spoilers." It's a tough position. Definitely gonna be following this project, it's looking pretty cool. As a massive Kingdom Hearts fan, it's neat seeing how many indie games are popping up being inspired by it.
Please don't say your game looks "Pitiful". To me, and probably a lot of people here, your game looks like a game. It is a lot of work, but we do appreciate and respect all of the time you put into this game. We are always looking forward to even the smallest update because this is a legit cool game. All the best man.
Rather than making fully edited videos I bet fans would prefer anything no matter how simple. Even if it’s just recordings with your input during the actual video. If you do any editing maybe just cut small moments where nothing happens. Hell if I wasn’t working two jobs I’d totally do any amount of editing for free.
Man as a fan of the Original Kingdom Hearts games, I am in love with this projects, and I am heavily considering subscribing to the patreon because I love this shit. Because I spent so much time researching game dev and seeing a lot of efforts by indie and solo studios become generic and misguided in my opinion ( this might be because the game’s vision doesn’t align with my vision ), but something like this feels like it can be a blast, Once you have a beautifully rendered, and designed game, you can pump out content and I am glad that you are putting in the effort for making the foundations, a lot of devs go crazy implementing things that the foundations for those things are not set and their projects turn into a mess that they lose motivation creating for it, I hope you steer far away from this track and I wish to get my hands on your piece of art one day. Ideas and Hopeful stuff: Also this would slap with multiplayer co-op but I’ll gladly wait for 7-8 years for that to happen. This transitions become easier when you design humanoid bosses who mimic the Players attacks and perform their own rotations and combos, you currently have 2 characters, which I hope you polish as much as possible and make it easier to have the discussion for adding a 3rd character perhaps, or variety in weapons.
You are so inspiring. Im at a point in my life where I'm juat gonna say fuck it and take a shot at my dream game. If it fails so be it, if it suceeds... well I'll cross that when I get there.
If you need help with the Environments/Props modelling feel free to ask. I'm a professional game dev working full-time so I could spare only a bit of free time but the project is amazing and contributing even a tiny bit would make me happy!
Hye at least you're sticking to the game. I booted up Unreal Engine with the goal to make the best game this world has ever seen! I got shut down at the tutorial.
Ay you're back les go! yeah perfectionism is a butt to get over. Best you can do is find out how to be okay with how you are currently, and that you actually look better in comparison to a previous version of yourself. Also I feel like as a viewer and supporter, I like to see that progression over time, that's the value, not how shiny and perfect it may seem. So if its any good to you, even if it may have seemed like a bad take or that it was going to be scrapped or changed entirely, I think I woulda still liked seeing what developments were made over time. Though of course whatever works for you is best. I believe what's been shown thus far has been incredible. Do you think you're gonna rely on any external help in the future? Someone for music for example?
If I can give one word of advice: DON'T DELETE THE SCRAPPED CONTENT. Sure, you are not using it now, but you can use it in the future , be it for testing, animations, scripts or maybe an entirely new game if you have the drive.
Take your time to make the best game you can do. Since the beggining we've known it wasn't gonna be easy cus you are aiming for something as good as KH2, the best game ever made. But I'm sure you have the passion to make it happen. Hope the best for you, wish I could help in any way but unfortnetly this is not possible. Goodbye =]

I can’t stop replaying it lol
Keep up the great work man, seriously.
Bro animated a whole up smash 😂
not slick.
If Blood, then only Crisis! 🔥
Managed to make a devlog about "I don't have anything interesting for a devlog" interesting, bravo 👏👏👏
Keep up the good work :]
Ah hell yeah

love that the particles when you whack an enemy are like gears and sprockets and springs

Funny Moth has returned. Very Good. Also huh. You made Shallow's model. Small world I guess.

I'm really liking those attack animations with them making the weapon feel heavy.
The path of a solo developer is very arduous indeed, but I'm very happy to see you excited about the project. I wish you every success on this journey
I'm just glad to hear that you're still working on it :)
You got this!

As a solo dev making their own KH/FF inspired game, i feel this video 1000%
Rooting for ya!
Yay, you're back! Hope you're doing fine!
Finally! You're back!
This game still looks really cool, even if there isn't that much to show. Keep up the good work, it looks awesome so far!
I am really looking forward to the finish product
okay not going to lie though
that combo you showed off, the one thing you got done in a whole year?
it looks so good. Like, just looking at that, I'm like "Oh my god I want it I want to do that" like it just hits me right there in the Vibes. Like. A+ on that. Great work.

From one 3D artist with a passion project to another. the ammount of work you have put in to your character riggs and animations are amazing
That short combo was amazingly animated and look really nice
Keep it up

The animations look so cool specially the one that sends the enemy up amazing work ❤❤

The slowmo combos look soooo good, well done !
BRC soundtrack mentioned

great job in the game dev journey, i love games with a direction in mind
Looks legit man I’m excited to see it in the future
You've done the exact opposite of what I was worried you'd do. So I'll be more than happy to wait even longer for the next one
take your time bro, cheers from Brasil.

Awesome work so far, take all the time you need!
so cool to hear from you, keep it up man ❤
can't wait for blood crisis FM with Vel's campaign.

Don't give up! We all start somewhere.
Going with 1 protagonist is definitely the smart decision to make.
as sad as i am about velle's campaign being cut, i absolutely understand the necessity of streamlining and, alternatively, feature creep. would be cool if she was part of a later expansion/dlc/update, after everything is sorted and moth is happy with their progress :)
holy shit the sequel
keep up the awsome work man.
This is so cool and im glad you were still working on this. Keep your head up and dont give up!!!
Totally forgot about this game until now
I'm staying hyped, keep grinding brother!
Ngl you being the moth avatars is the cutest thing.

Oh fuck yeag new Blood Crisis!!!!
what a very knowledgeable moth
Oh wow! You are still working on this? Super cool! Focusing on the foundations is wise. And cutting stuff is hard but its the right call for sure.
Still looks good bro! Keep it up!
I trust your vision. I'll wait.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BLOOD CRISIS 4EVER
Keep up the good work

YES DUDE LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOO!
Also you said you got a discord server? I couldn’t find it in the description.
it's at the bottom
Oh I thought you meant like. Dreams. Like that one sandbox game.
