53 yr old man crying like a baby because of this. Beautiful song by Todd, superlative cover by F&F. Nice when you think of all the great covers Todd did on his Faithful album.
Todd wrote a great song and Chase nailed it! The best version of this song that I have ever heard and it brought back the hope and faith that we had in the '70s. Too bad that the world has turned into such a mess in 2024.
I’ve been a musician/songwriter, producer, engineer/mixer for 35 years and a huge Todd Rundgren fan as well, and I must say that this is the best version of this song I’ve ever heard. Awesome job!!
@Chuck Kawal like you I am a huge Todd Rundgren fan! Also you are so right in stating this is the best version of the song. Yes, I Love Todd, but this is better than even his version.
Come on all ... this is probably the BEST recording from the Foxes and Fossils. Who is with me in this observation ... I cannot get enough of this recording ... GREAT!
This is a great piece of music, best they've ever done and that's saying something, I can listen to their stuff over and over again but this is beyond superb, btw I'm a 66yr old who's seen and heard just about everyone worth seeing, these people are up there, long may it continue.
Tim Purcell is the luckiest SOB on the planet! How in the hell can one man assemble this much AMAZING talent into one band. I'm a musician and I've started a few club bands over the years, (Chicagoland area), and while I've worked with some good musicians and singers, none came even close to this. F&F is world class all the way!
They originally started when Maggie and Sammie were 15, just as a way to get a little extra cash for the girls for college, they added Chase when she was 15, when Maggie went off to college, he never expected that they would become as popular as they are now, I really think the pandemic has really helped them become even more successful because being quarantined people have been on here more than ever before.
I remember that Brady Bunch episode. I agree, this never gets old. I don’t know how many times I’ve listened to it. I wish I could hold a giant boom box over the world and play this song on it.
No!!! Then she would leave the group. I hope they all keep playing together until their fingers fall off! That said - I'm happy to pay for the music I love to hear.
@Mario Lopez I do radio and it's amazing to me how fast this has happened. In about 5 years, more than half of the music I play is independently released (i.e. from the band's own web site or their streaming accounts) rather than through a label. Bands have found out that they might sell half teh number of songs they used to with a label, but they get to keep most of the money and they dont have label weenies telling them what they have to sing and what they have to wear etc.
When F&F did a cover of Mamas and the Papas, "Say a Little Prayer" I thought how are they gonna hit those powerful high notes by Cass Elliot? Chase did it. But, Here's the big question, why was she out front on this softly delicate tune?
We all need this song played loudly and frequently now as America sinks into its version of the Dark Ages. Chase and F&F Crew absolutely own this song now. ❤🎉❤
I agree that the awesome rendition of Todd Rundgren's "Love is the Answer" by F&F feat. Chase should be the appropriate anthem to herald Making America Great Again.
Little did Todd know he was writing this song for Chase....its hers....just the perfect voice and sound .....with great back up and arrangements...it really doesn't get any better by any group or singer..you all bring much enjoyment to us all. thank you so much for your efforts.
Really loved the vibe here - I can hear it more as a Rundgren sound than when England Dan a Don Ford Coley covered it back in the day. There's a lot mor angst, emotion.
She really knows how to throw in those "just right" embellishments and runs without ever overdoing anything -- many older singers could learn from her! The held note and slow run from 4:10 - 4:21 is sublime!
Probably the 20th time I have listened to this and Chase just blows me away very time. She has fantastic range and her breath control is spot-on. A perfect complement to an outstanding group of musicians, and Maggie and Sammy are just wonderful.

The “foxes” certainly have three distinctly different vocal styles. Chase is emerging with her powerful voice. Blend them plus the Fossils and the harmonies are world class.
And each with their own styles makes each one my favorite. When Maggie sings, she is always my favorite, when Sammie sings, she controls and captures our hearts, and when Chase sings, well when she sings "kiss me under the light of a thousand stars", I actually feel my heart flutter.
Chase's contralto voice here is freakin' awesome. Sammie, Maggie, and Chase all have different qualities in their vocal range which just makes the songs they sing so much more than 'just a cover'!
That note Chase held at the end was with one breath. So impressive on so many levels. The whole band is so dang good but Chase hit it out of the park with this one. So good.
I find myself coming back to this song over and over. Everything about it from Chase's lead, to the harmonies, to the instrumental arrangement is just ON POINT! Sooo GOOD!
Not a weak spot anywhere. And how in the world does Chase hold that note at 4:10 for approximately 10 seconds? I've listened to this over and over, and I cannot detect her sneaking a breath anywhere. It astounds me every time I hear it.
This song brought me to tears ... struggling right now. Lost my wife and my daughter is away at school in Europe. I am estranged from my father and mother.. they have no interest in me .. wondering when I'll feel whole again. Beautiful Song.

I’ve commented on this before, but I want to comment again. This band is incredible. And, in this instance, the most incredible performance is that of Chase. It’s almost unbelievable what she is able to do worth her voice. That note she holds toward the very end is amazing. Amazing! How she can hold it for so long and stay in key and not sound like she’s straining is, well, incredible. I’m not a person of many words, and you can see I use the same words frequently, but I was so moved by this performance. I’ve found it moving every time I’ve watched, but never this much. Perhaps it’s the state of the world we’re in. I don’t know. But thank you, Chase, and all the Foxes and Fossils, for giving this fossil a shred of hope. ❤️
Partly inherited. Chase's grandmother was a Broadway and opera singer, I understand her mother is also a very good singer. That and working to make use of the wonderful talent she's been given. She loves to sing.
I've listened to this performance over and over. From 4:10 to 4:20, I can't detect Chase sneaking a single breath, and it's not as if she's holding one pitch - she's modulating. It blows me away every single time I hear it. Unbelievable!

I was skeptical when I came upon this video. I'm one of those who often believes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Since then, I've watched it at least 20 times.
@@jaytomson7052 What they did with "Telling Me Lies" was take an obscure song from 35 years ago and brought it back to life in a big way. The Ronstadt-Parton-Harris trio made one notable recording of it back then, but few other covers have gotten much interest until now. The songwriter herself even weighed in on it favorably, on their Facebook group.
I’ve got to admit I was initially a bit confused why F&F added a third female singer. After hearing Chase on this song, it became clear. Chase, this was brilliant and beautiful. Cudos x 10!
Chase joined the band in 2015 when Maggie was unable to continue due to college and work in Nashville. They quit playing in 2017 as Chase left for college. In 2019 Maggie asked Tim if they could possibly do studio recordings as members were living in 5 states at the time. So in Sept 2019 they reunited and Maggie and Darwin returned to the group.
Chase is awesome. The entire group is. But this song sung by Chase with her voice is so smooth and so fun to listen to over and over and over honestly. I like this version better than Todd Rundgren’s version and I do love that song.
Good God Chase those vocals are spine tingling. From a bottomless to a sky high vocal range!!! Are you kidding me? So soulful. Congrats foxes and Fossils.
She is. That's Chase Truran. We've been watching and listening to her grow and mature since she began blowing everyone away at age 15. She recently turned 21. You will find a number of remarkable performances by Chase on this channel by going to the home page and scrolling down to the playlists for all lead singers. Chase has her own UA-cam channel and her website is chasesings.com. Background, bios, etc. for Foxes and Fossils at foxesandfossils.com.
Song selection of this group is superb. Whoever is in charge of that has impeccable taste. Execution of all the covers is always so good. Thanks for the love and care that you put into your work; it's much appreciated.
I think selection is a group decision with suggestions from various members. Many are fan requests left under their "What Song Will They Cover Next" video.
I have been a fan for well over a year now....and even still today, my reaction to this group, and all the parts. pieces, and songs selections, is reduced to a three letter word. WOW.
Rundgren wrote the song but the commercially popular version was sung by England Dan and John Ford Coley and reached the Top 10 in the charts in 1979 and is frankly my favorite song of all time. Nice version here - good job!
I'm a soon to be 67 year old Scotsman. Discovered this group a few months ago. Absolutely phenomenal. I'd sell a kidney to see them live. Bill Amos in Kirkliston near Edinburgh. Scotland.
I’m with you there Bill Amos I’m 65 from York England I discovered this band by complete accident while searching the Tube for a cover of The Go Go’s our lips are sealed, saw Foxes and Fossils doing the song perfectly and that was it... I was hooked 🙏🏻
At 2:47 watch Sammi closing her eyes and just feeling the music come to her but holding off on background vocals, but just after that she kicks and elevates the harmony to an insane level. What a voice!
And Tim Purcell needs to be credited as to how he has delivered, over and over again on covers as good or better than the originals. So much great music has been written but can be updated. Hope some corp recognizes his talents and does something special!
I was brought to Fox and Fossils via the Mustangs' cover of "Penny Lane." The best cover I've ever heard of anything from Magical Mystery Tour. Tim is such a talent, not only in musicianship and skillful production, but being the person and role model to bring talented people together, young and old, and offer such fine and creative musical covers. Hats off to all...You guys rock!
Tim is a super old school musician. I'm a 52 year playing 66 yr. old drummer who knows a great setup when I see it. My band of just old Fossils play even today, weddings, funerals and frat parties.
Yes. Let's contact Kelly Clarkson to have them on her show. The world needs to have this song as our anthem. F & F help me every day with my happiness and I can't thank them enough.
when professionalism, art, classy taste, and badass vocals all come together in one place ..... well it just made me reconsider my "hopeless" verdict about life on earth. You did indeed produce a miracle here.
I'm looking at the comments and I guess I'm not alone. I have replayed this song probably 30 times over the past month. Chase's incredible vocal interpretation are just stuck in my head. I don't usually comment on these boards but this cover is absolutely incredible - the blended backup vocals, the subtle guitar, the incredible bass work . . . just all of it. This song turned my into an F&F fan.
No question a master, every time. In the top 3 I've ever heard and I'm a Fossil and put him in the group with Michael Rhodes and Jimmy Earle. Let's not forget how good Tim is at producing/editing. Also a master.

Wasn’t that impressed when Todd Rungren released, but never thought I would hear a better cover than England Dan and John Ford Coley. But I just did! What an amazing voice, beautiful…just beautiful!!
A huge F&F fan, this is the first time I’ve left a comment. I don’t even know where to start. Just when I think I’ve seen every video, heard every song, I’m thrilled to find one I’ve somehow missed, and this is easily up there with the best they have ever done. Tim’s skill at mixing and production is phenomenal. The way he can bring the sound of tracks performed at different times and in different places to such an perfect whole is truly amazing. I adore Sammie (I would listen to her sing her grocery list) and Maggie too, and nothing beats the harmony of the three girls together. But Chase may just have the most naturally rich voice of all. I hope and pray that everyone continues to find ways to pursue their incredible talents. They obviously love performing. And I know it’s difficult as life pulls everyone in different directions, but I hope they find ways to get together and make their beautiful music from time to time. And on a selfish note, for our sakes too. Can never get enough of F&F. Many thanks to you all. God bless.
@@Texas3246 Tim said when Scott sent him this bass track he listened to it separately first and wondered 'what's going on with Scott anyway?" Then he added it to the song and said 'Wow, he's come with some things that Id never even think of, and it works!"
They are all really exceptional, but Chase’s is the most beautiful and powerful voice we’ve heard in decades. And it’s good that they cover older songs; they just don’t write them like that any more, which is a pity.
Chase's voice truly is phenomenal. The girl has got a set of pipes, for sure!! I could see her going on to have a solo career. She surely has the talent for it, however, I hope she doesn't completely leave F&F either, as the harmony she does with them is incredible! Chase truly is a gem!!

That is a world-class lead vocal. Nuance and power, not often you get both in one voice.

@@lynwessel2471 I've been there briefly before, but I'm going to have a serious look now after seeing this song.
Chase has a Karen Carpenter quality in her voice, smooth, effortless and lovely. Gotta love these beautiful people.
Chase did a pretty good solo on this cover of a Bonnie Raitt song as well if you haven't seen it yet. ua-cam.com/video/gC8i_-t38SY/v-deo.html
@@sheepdog4268 You are very right. Thanks for the tip.
That last phrase by Chase is...just incredible!!!
Agree!
Over and over fosho👍
Beauty,!
Good God Chase those vocals are spine tingling. From a bottomless to a sky high vocal range!!! Are you kidding me? So soulful. Congrats foxes and Fossils.
Oh my God. What a voice. The lead singer is a goddess...
@@dougsalzmann2752 excellent. Many thanks for the info. I just listened to her version of I Can't Make you Love me... Holy cow.
@@craigsisler Amen!
Todd is a genius and this is one of his greatest but the harmonies and this solo are dare I say it even prettier than the original
There are covers and there are songs that are reborn. I never thought I would hear anything approaching Todd's but here it is. Thank you.
This was the "another Todd Rundgren song in the works" that Sammie refers to at the start of "Angel From Montgomery".
Freaking awesome performance! Chase has the absolutely most sultry voice I’ve ever heard!
Chase's voice is so full and rich. For her to be so young. Very special...... You all did Me. Rundgren song proud!!
OK, I'll admit it. Once upon a time, Chase was "the new Fox". After hearing this rendition... Damn, Girl. You a Fox!
she has the range of a Mama Cass. fantastic
check out "dedicated to the one I love"
How can anyone possibly dislike this? The range in Chase's voice is incredible, and the harmonies second to none.

Maybe the really, really die-hard 'nobody but' Todd fans are the 'thumbsdowner' folks?
I have been a fan for well over a year now....and even still today, my reaction to this group, and all the parts. pieces, and songs selections, is reduced to a three letter word. WOW.
@@brucehart1617 I wonder what Todd would say.
@@leonardking84 Yes, I wonder. I'd think he'd be pleased.
I was hooked 🙏🏻
i did see them live and i still have two kidneys!
This Lady can sing!

Tim Purcell - “never put up anything that isn’t better...” man, you guy’s outdid yourselves again!
And how. Wow!
At 2:47 watch Sammi closing her eyes and just feeling the music come to her but holding off on background vocals, but just after that she kicks and elevates the harmony to an insane level. What a voice!
Man that girl can flat out sing !!! What a talented group of people!!!
Her voice is like butter.
love when Chase does a song like this and you can experience her soulful voice and she can belt it out.Pure prfection
Her vocals are just addicting. I dig listening to chase as lead. Also they're all great.
23K+ fan LIKE; 1.3M+ views well-earned. Top notch!! Chase's smoky vocals puts it OVER THE TOP, actually.
And Tim Purcell needs to be credited as to how he has delivered, over and over again on covers as good or better than the originals. So much great music has been written but can be updated. Hope some corp recognizes his talents and does something special!
Agreed!
The hidden genius.
Tim is a super old school musician. I'm a 52 year playing 66 yr. old drummer who knows a great setup when I see it. My band of just old Fossils play even today, weddings, funerals and frat parties.
💯 !!!!!!
The lead singer on this KILLED IT. Such a beautiful cover.

This song turned my into an F&F fan.
same here man.
I looking forward to watch all videos from this band.
Such an incredible work.
Everybody did a such good job

Scott King is simply one of the best bassists I have ever heard !!!! ....He provides the foundation for this masterpiece.

No question a master, every time. In the top 3 I've ever heard and I'm a Fossil and put him in the group with Michael Rhodes and Jimmy Earle. Let's not forget how good Tim is at producing/editing. Also a master.
He is my favorite bassist❤️
@@kktruran: Scott will pop in and tell us that he's just lucky to play with the others. That's true, and they are super-lucky to be playing with Scott. And *we* are the luckiest of all, cuz they all play for us.
Wasn’t that impressed when Todd Rungren released, but never thought I would hear a better cover than England Dan and John Ford Coley. But I just did! What an amazing voice, beautiful…just beautiful!!
I'm actually sitting here in tears. That was incredible
Chase is nails on this. And the musicianship is as solid as always. Stellar cover.
There should be some sort of a UA-cam award for this!
There is. It's called a Josie Award, and Chase has been nominated in three categories, all for her solo work, not F&F.
God bless.
Probably the most technically perfect ear candy in the F&F catalog. Tough but absolutely perfect harmony, and good god can Chase sing!
Tim doesn’t get enough credit for mixing and production of this amazing group.
Agree
@@Texas3246 Tim said when Scott sent him this bass track he listened to it separately first and wondered 'what's going on with Scott anyway?" Then he added it to the song and said 'Wow, he's come with some things that Id never even think of, and it works!"
When Chase hits that note at the end and takes this song up in to the stratosphere I got goosebumps! She was born to sing this song!
They are all really exceptional, but Chase’s is the most beautiful and powerful voice we’ve heard in decades. And it’s good that they cover older songs; they just don’t write them like that any more, which is a pity.
I keep coming back to listening to this song that Chase does such a beautiful rendition of. So love it....
Same here.
Chase's voice truly is phenomenal. The girl has got a set of pipes, for sure!! I could see her going on to have a solo career. She surely has the talent for it, however, I hope she doesn't completely leave F&F either, as the harmony she does with them is incredible! Chase truly is a gem!!
@@cindybollinger6411 Chase reminds me of the unique Karen Carpenter type of voice. I could listen to anything she does.
