A big part of doing well in plantestide is having a good computer and internet connection. It may go without saying, but having those two things going for you make the world of difference. Having a high FPS is gonna let you hit more shots, live longer, climb walls. When I built a better rig, my K/D went from 1.5ish to 4. Just from having better performance and better internet.
Exactly, for the first 4 years after launch my I7 laptop just couldn't handle the game and I was consistently below 30fps, sometimes even 11 frames per second and despite loving the atmosphere of the game and trying to get into it, I couldn't because I could never seem to win fights and get kills. Now that I built my gaming PC I get 70-50 fps and can break even in all sorts of situations, or even defend an outpost single-handedly with a 3.0 K/D. Performance makes a huge difference on what you're physically able to do in the game, and winning faceoffs with this playerbase is downright impossible if you're aiming through a slideshow. Makes me feel better about my god-awful post-launch K/D too.
@@CMDRCyrious *Most important part of it. It doesnt matter if you do every single little thing correctly if you have a computer that cant handle PS2. You will get farmed by people who spent thousands of dollars on their rigs and you'll get farmed by people who built up their rigs themselves. Dont play this game if you're coming off a Wal-Mart purchase. You'll only have a bad time.
I couldn't afford a super crazy Desktop for gaming last year but I was done with my lo end laptop. It was barely 20 fps on games like this and Mechwarrior Online. Anyways. I finally had enough and Got a bundle. Everything included. One stop buy and it plays Planetside 2 like a fucking champ. And honestly you wouldn't think so. This set up is without a doubt an under dog that is great for maybe your first Desktop. I ended up going HP. It's an HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop that has Nvidia GeForce GTX1050/AMD Ryzen 5 2400 Vega Processor. Came with 30 inch Monitor. Omen Headset. Omen mouse. Omen Keyboard, Omen mousepad. Everything. Although if your buying one of these Bundles or HP gaming desktops they now have newer Graphics cards in them of course. Going with an Nvidia GTX 1080 would be my suggestion and an AMD Ryzen 5 or up processor. Although The GTX 1050 is super underated by Alot of people. And the TI 1050 is just hands down amazing for the money. Add In an AMD Ryzen 5 Processor and your not spending Alot of money and have a RiG that can run Planetside 2 on High settings. If your recording and worried about losing FPS no worries. Download Nvidia Shadowplay since you have a GTX card and no loss in performance. Seriously I love my Rig 😍
@@theknightskyisi Funny thing, back in the day i used to have a K:D of about 2.5. Then more recently the game moved to DX11 and i had to drop all my settings down to their lowest and my K:D dropped to 0.6
We get our ammo in boxes holding 30 rounds. 10 rounds per clip. Now you take the rounds out of your clip, (or use a mag charger) and you fill your 30 rd mag.
I know it's supposed to be "magazine," but this is such a common mistake that it makes me think that "clip" was correct in the past, or is correct for certain weapons.
All the points you bring up in this video are all reasons why this game should be more popular then it is, started playing again a few weeks ago and it's so nice to be back.
Another thing to keep in mind is that nearly every automatic weapon in the game (I think there's a couple of exceptions) has more recoil from the first shot than every shot after during continuous fire. An average player's best bet is to start firing at the upper chest and let recoil bring the aim up to head level, then move the mouse to keep it there.
*cringe* Afraid I disagree. Using vertical recoil to walk that 2nd shot to the head is pretty advanced. What helped me was a suggestion to go for the head first while bloom is tight, then pull down to the body as bloom begins to expand and headshots become more luck than aim.
As someone who has played this for years (2013 I think?), it's great to see content like this teaching new players what they really need to know coming into this game. I've always said Planetside 2 is the Dark Souls of FPS games, mainly because, as you mentioned, you're playing against everyone from the noobs to the >4KD gods.
Especially nowadays, where almost all games just tell you "oh your sooo good, keep playing me" without you putting any real efford into it, many players get very impatient when they don't perform well after a short period of time. It's a combination of a harsh learning curve, and players nowadays getting spoiled with positive feedback by modern games without the need to put any real efford into them. But for all the newcomers out there: Stick around... It's worth it... There is simply no other game out there which provides a similiar gaming experience... Join a Newcomer-Outfit, these are very open and friendly to new players and help out as much as they can. The community itself is usually very open to new players aswell. When I started, having no clue what an Outfit was, I sometimes asked questions in the open chat during a fight, and even people from the faction we were currently fighting messaged me and helped me out.
So...I’ve had a strange experience with this game. So I got the game, and this was two or three years ago when instead of giving you 100 certs every time u leveled up they gave you a free weapon for any 1 specific class the moment you got into the game, and I started my first character. It was NC, and I picked the infiltrator set of weapons thinking “well this is gonna be a bit op just waltzing around cloaked and killing people”, but hell no it was nothing like that. I think the free NC weapon was the SAS-R, and I didn’t know it was a close range sniper. I use it for a little and get frustrated by the fact it’s not actually a close range weapon (or I thought it so). I then switched to a couple other classes, eventually ending up with heavy assault. I ended up doing much better with the heavy assault, and got my first kills with the gauss saw. Then I realized I’d picked the wrong server and I couldn’t play with my friends because of it. So I deleted my character and started a new one, still NC, and picked the heavy assault set of weapons. The free heavy assault weapon was the EM1, but I didn’t use it immediately. I started again with the gauss saw, got a couple kills, and decided to try out the EM1. I instantly did better Instantly The difference was extremely noticeable. On my old character I had nine kills total, five of which were with the gauss saw, three with the AF-19 Mercenary, and one with the vanguard’s tank gun. That was over two or three playthroughs. With the EM1 in about an hour I managed to get 16 kills, with an additional 9 or so from the shrike. Ever since then I’ve pretty much remained faithful to the gun, and it is still the gun I have the most kills with. I know kills aren’t super important in planetside, and I learned fairly quickly that I had much more fun when I didn’t give a crap about my KDR, but as a new player in my first week in the game, it was important to me. After that incident, it took a full year before anyone could successfully convince me that weapons hardly made a difference in the game, and that skill was what caused the veteran players to be so good. Really what finally did it was one of those little tip quotes in the loading screen that said “A bad musician always blames their instrument,” in conjunction with wrel’s video about the topic.
When I first spawned into Planetside two years ago, I spawned as a Light Assault. When I learned that I could fly after about 15 minutes of play, I rarely used standard doorways ever again, and it's for this reason that I throughly believe that the LA class is the best class for a FNG Planetside player to use. Direct engagements with veteran players are frankly suicidal for rookies, but an advantage shot from overhead with a perfect line of fire on their head? If a rookie can find himself picking up on the flanking habits of an LA player, they'll notice themselves winning a large majority of engagements.
The buff to hipfire accuracy while flying is also a plus. You just keep the reticle ontop of the enemy while strafing around him. Even veteran players get disoriented by this tactic.
Oh yes, absolutely so. Playing on PlayStation as I do only makes their situation worse, as trying to spin around and keep on target with an analog stick takes considerable years of practice with controllers. This may be also true with a mouse, but mice are more precise.
Yep, I also noticed that. I play PS2 since 3 years and I still royally suck at the game. I used to play a lot of heavy assault but I fell in love with the ambusher jumpjet/pump shotgun combo. It fits my playstyle and people simply dont expect a light assault to bust trough a window with shotgun and based, especially in biolabs where everyone just hold corners
I think one additional point that is often missed is the sheer amount of firepower PS2's battles feature. Peek the wrong corner in COD and you have one, maybe two guys getting the drop on you. Peek the wrong corner in PS2,and you get instagibbed despite the high TTK.5+ guys might start shooting at you simultaneously.
48 myself and been playing for 2.5 year BR109. Suck also but then again playing with 12-16 fps does not help. Buuuut - love the game just do not count on me to save your ASS :)
LOL, yea I will play a couple hours, maybe get a couple kills, but I am helping the other factions with their K//D. They probably wait for me to come on and then rub their hands, oh boy more easy kills. But I am teaching the neighbors lots of swear words. LOL
Morning Sitrep. 4 hrs playing 2 kills, 31 deaths. I think I am pretty much done with this. No matter what faction and what type of class I play. I just suck.
I focus on killing tanks and sunderers as light assault - do not care how many times die - if i know where their sunderer or tank is - it is going down - although my own side sometimes takes me to task for stopping the farm :)
Great video, you've earned a sub. Kudos to you for making content on Planetside 2018. One thing I want to point out is around 3:50, you use someone who got the drop on you and died as an example. In that instance, you probably would have died if you hadn't used your Heavy Assault shield to negate a decent portion of his damage. I think it's important new players understand that Heavy Assaults have that ability, and that perhaps it isn't always their fault when losing some engagements.
Its true, Heavy Assaults are a different story. Good really decide if you want to engage one of them. I would still put it on that player, if they decide to engage a heavy assault, but yes it is important to realize that Heavy Assaults have a much higher effective HP than other classes.
On the other hand, if you can't kill a HA by getting the drop on them, you'll never kill one at all. Ambushing is the best general way to beat anyone. So, yes, you should blame yourself if you try it and fail, not the enemy's overshield.
The Christian RC Network yes they do, you just have to get better and you will notice it climbing, even at under-pop fights where your faction is getting farmed you can swing a easy 3 kdr if you just play it right
Pretty much. KDR has no relevance in the game. You lose precisely nothing for dying, and your kills aren't necessarily going to help your allies. Sure, on the whole, gunning down a load of enemies during a point hold is helpful, but if you're doing that at a base that has been cut off, you're just wasting your time. Unfortunately, KDR can be tracked (Both via stats and with the Recursion tracker), and has thus become the focus of people trying to stroke their e-peens, becoming focused moreso on padding their pointless numbers instead of actually contributing to the game. KDR-whores are also normally the ones who bitch about dying to "cheap" "bullshit", even if, or in some cases, especially if it was their own stupid fault. Like HESH Tankers sitting still and ignoring the ominously low-flying Valkyrie with a bunch of LAs in the rumble seats flying overhead and then going on Reddit to whine about how "OP" C4 is. KDR doesn't matter, and focusing on it is silly.
And a good game it is! You wont regret it when you once get the grip on it. Work on your directives, good way to keep you motivated and keep you craving for more.
Game is addictive as Hell when u start to know your stuff. Watch tutorials on youtube man, stick with it. Theres NO game like this in the market. When u get good, u will never leave for long.
Nicely explained and with good clips to illustrate the points. Thank you for taking the time to put this together - I hope it helps a lot of people to improve.
Hey thank you for these kind of videos i was really hesitant about going into a 6 years old F2P but your new players videos convinced me and i really like the game ! Sometime i even manage to get a kill ! awesome work !
Sent here yesterday by a mentor after getting back into the game, massively helpful, even today! I'm too used to depending on body shots, gotta break my brain out of the training I've gotten from other faster TTK games. Absolutely gonna rep this more in game once I'm the guy helping newbies!
I've been playing this game on and off for years and my aim is pretty damn bad. Makes me wonder how I made it to BR 31. I'm glad you raised these points, I was able to identify a lot of the mistakes I've been making in my gameplay. Another great video.
This is the good thing about playing competitive games like Planetside, SC2 and LoL. If you have a few braincells and look to improve, you'll quickly realise the fault lies mainly within you, not the opponent or the game itself. Great guide!
7:40 This is where I start to wonder if Planetside just isn't a game I can effectively compete in. Due to carpal tunnel issues I picked up in college, a regular mouse doesn't work for me, so I need to use a trackball. I've looked around, and there aren't too many trackballs out there, particularly not ones that use the thumb like I'm accustomed to using. I've tried turning my sensitivity down, but the result is that I can't turn quickly enough - it's like I have already been hit by a concussion grenade. I've also tried a higher sensitivity while aiming down sights than when firing from hip. This helps to some degree, but I still struggle to track moving targets effectively. I can do it okay with someone who isn't terribly skilled, but better players kill me before I can effectively track them. I can sometimes kill a better player if I get the drop on them from behind, and manage to get a few headshots in before they turn around, and if they don't have friends around to back them up. But when it comes to larger engagements, I'm still basically just getting constantly mowed down.
clovermite I have no idea what carpal tunnel problems mean, but perhaps you could try using a controller? If you can use a controller with whatever it is you have that is.
clovermite The steam controller could allow you to use trackpads for fast aiming and its gyro sensor for fine aiming. There are some videos explaining the concept (just search for steam controller FPS) and it seems to work much better than analog sticks.
Hey! Im a new PS4 player in planet side. Just wanted to let you know that this video gave me a lot of hope about the game. From the very start of downloading it i knew it was a special game and unlike many others. Many of these tips are helpful! Keep up the good work :)
You have some really good points. The only thing missing I think is some words about the netcode. If an enemy enters the room and starts shooting at you the moment you realize it he's already shooting you for half a second meaning you're under attack before the enemy visually attacks you and that's a thing you have to know to be able to get behind cover early enough. I know you already mentioned that in another video but I think it could've been helpful for new players to have this information in this video here as well ;)
I've literally said "wtf why is it that I empty an entire clip into someone, they live, but I die in like three shots?!?!?!" This video is a definite help! I didnt even know half of this stuff even worked in the game. Thanks for the advice!
Positioning of your crosshairs. Running around the map with you default aim being at the enemies waist or lower is detrimental to your 1v1 readiness. Keeping your horizontal crosshairs at chest level reducing aim time and therefore ttk time. Being able to gauge where the enemy's chest or head is going to be is hard to learn until after a couple thousand 1v1s. Eventually, you can work doorways and various locations better by training your aim on where they will be. Gamers are people of habit, and far too many just rush into a doorway sprinting, with their weapon down. I agree with everything you said in this video, but what I explained above is just as important.
I wish I had seen such a tuturial maybe a year ago or more :) But better late then never, thank you for your tips! Unfortunately I didn't have time to play the game lately, and when I dived in after a few weeks break last time I was completely OWNED by everyone! This game really requires the highest skill of all. But it's so rewarding and even when I suck I can still sometimes feel useful. Really an EPIC game! :)
Hey Cyrious im a fan of your work here on yt keep it man, really like ps2 content! I just got into the game , just this year(on ps4) , and im really enjoying it . Thanks for the noob guides lol
I honestly feel like the main reason I got hooked on planetside was the first thing I did was look for a squad (since I was coming from mmo rpgs as a healer so I am used to needing groups) and the squads I found was active and helpful, and because of that community I stayed and I am so happy I did
Hell yeah dude that was the video i have been looking for not for me but for the players who think i am a hacker especially new ones, thanks man will try to send the link to those players to learn something from it. And by the way good job patty
Best advice I received came from a friend that sent me off to VR training. I pull a Sundy drive out and deploy, and for the next 20 minutes practice shooting neck and above. Once my Sundy de-spawns practice is over and into the fight I go.
Solid advice there. Gotta work that into my game. Still I feel ping has a lot to do with how fast you die too. You kinda notice the impact sound when a bullets hits your character (bodyshots from the "meaty" sound off it) and sometimes, there are only two impacts but still, BOOM, you ded! From a weapon that does suppoesedly 200 dmg per hit (before the whole damage fall-off and stuff), so I guess the other guy instead must´ve hit me at least five times but on my end it only registered as two as an audio cue. That can be a little discouraging but it makes that little "revenge kill achieved" message so much better.
One thing that adds to this feeling of they kill me fast and I them slow is moderately high ping on the servers when there are lots of players online. That means when the first shot hits you the enemy has already shot and probably hit the 1-2 next bullets, so it is different from games such as counter-strike or other competitive games where you could regularly see ping under 20ms. The issue is just something you need to adapt to during primetime.
While playing today I have come to the conclusion...that I can't aim, and basically what you said is what just happened to me, I had took this game with it's own dynamics and playstyle and tried to play it like a game where all you need to generally do is hit the enemy. This game is soo much more then how other games are. when it says that a smg cannot be a sniper, IT CANNOT BE A SNIPER. A lmg is not a smg. (Which I learned the hard way). The shotguns are...well the shotguns. The snipers are all about who uses them and how you position yourself, and the AR's are very effective at the right range. Too many fights when I got murked like the vanu soldier in your example. Ohhh the pain, ohhh the agony and rage. This video is a god bless...for my aim
the reason for those soft mouse pads that inhibit your movement a bit are specifically for being able to stop your mouse when you move it, it has that extra bit of grip you need so it doesn't slide too much when you don't want it to (and like you said it's a preference) also along with finding the right mouse sensitivity comes finding the right FOV, I love and play on max/100-110 on most games while you and many other players prefer a smaller FOV, that changes your effective sensitivity as well since a lower sensitivity on a lower FOV means you don't have to move as far to get your sights on a target in your FOV so even though your aim is slower you're not moving your mouse as drastically
As an engineer with 16 hours of game time I've discovered the Mauler using headshots and I'm doing more then just ammo supplying or Max repairing.and light infantry adds a whole new dimension to tactics.
I tell this to people who complain that bf4 you have to be really accurate to do good- "you feet will save you WAY more often than your gun" your feet will keep 3 people from killing you when your gun will only take out one and hurt the second but you outsmart them, come up from behind and mow them dow because it lets YOU pick where and when you engage.
I've put about 40 hours into the game. I appreciate this advice, the Sensitivity wasn't something I really thought would help. but makes a huge difference. Now when I aim for the upper-chest/head I win way more engagements.
You spend your time getting learning how to aim, how to behave, how to follow commands and how to move. You learn the layouts of different bases, learn to drive different vehicles and start flying planes. If you finally mastered all of these techniques after hundrets, if not thousands of hours... ...a TR harasser comes along with a vulcan and mows down all 20 sundies and 10 tanks your team has set up. Pro-tip: playing vulcan-Harasser is especially funny when you're lagging; this way your vehicle will not be visible until everyone is already dead... great times....
the only problem with that: everyone knows how to use the vulcan. It's a point and click adventure where holding the left mouse button for one second will reward you with a nice firework caused by the exploding opponent. That doesn't really work with the aphelion, since new players just hopping into the game will never know what it can do. Even the description is a little weird. Also, even after reaching its max speed when firing (which also takes time), it still does about 7-10% less damage than the Vulcan. On top of that, when employing the 6-shots-then-stop technique, you will *have* to hit every high-damage-shot of the aphelion, or you will lose a high amount of damage. With the vulcan, missing a few shots and getting back on target is not a tragedy - as long as you have enough ammo. Also, with the arge magazine size, one whole vulcan clip can on average deal about 30% more damage than one aphelion clip when just holding fire. Most of the time, when playing vs, I'd rather put a halbert on my harasser and try to jump in and out of cover to get single shots on the enemy. The aphelion isn't really a great weapon to use against the vulcan, it seems rather strong about stationary vehicles such as deployed sunderers and slow tanks, since the damage fall off is less, while the accuracy is better, but the projectiles are still too slow for distant moving targets. (which doesn't really make sense to me, since the vulcan is said to be a medium range weapon while the aphelion was supposed to be a close combat weapon). It's also great for surprising unknowing mosquitos and reavers. I can't say much about the mjolnir; nc is a faction I have yet to play on. Also, I have never seen someone using it or killing me with it. Please also note that my first comment was written with a lot of salt too, only hossin was open and VulcansEverywhere+TrOverpop+Ping+NoActiveSquadAnywhere= instant switch to another server
Believe it or not, the Vulcan has been nerfed; when it originally came out, its bullet velocity was faster and it had the ability to pitch up farther, making it the go-to for anti-aircraft. I haven't played VS or NC (because I'm a patriot) but the Vulcan has a pretty severe bullet drop compared to a lot of TR weapons. Its bloom also makes it terrible at hitting infantry. Everything has its pros and cons.
ƃN Ⅎ What I am on about? I said I didn't play as nc and don't want to judge the mjolnir before really getting to know it. Also I don't really see as many mjolnirs as I see vulcans and aphelions being used against me, which might just be luck if it really is that strong :D btw, any recommended server for playing nc? I've only tried miller/emerald with the other factions and moved to only emerald later as I enjoyed playing there more
ƃN Ⅎ easy; none. I don't think it's entirely bad if one faction has any advantage in one of its empire specific weapons. Of course it can be frustrating, but in planetside it would kind of make sense in terms of lore, as long as the amount of more useful weapons and the overall usefullness of the arsenal is relatively balanced. I think ps2 does a good job there. (and as i already said earlier, the rant-ish post about the vulcan was kind of fueled by frustration... damn, I need to wait more after these fights before I comment, didn't mean to start such a discussion ^^)
got into the game and only sunk 44 hours. Man what you said are exactly the things i'm saying. Callings hacks, rage quitting, body shots for days, mag dumping and man this does put everything into perspective. I love the game and the feel and hopefully I can get better before planet side 3 comes out (if ever they do think of making it)
As a battlefield player, the hardest thing to get used to is the high ttk and how important headshots are. In bf4 the headshot multiplier is 1.5 max, and practically, the first person that shoots on target wins, as ttk is usually 4-5 shots body, 3 head. After this video I started aiming for the head and noticed much better I became. Thank you.
I haven't played planetside in years and recently started again. I've also been playing apex legends since it came out and I can draw a lot of parallels in the gunplay between the two. It's probably why I do decently in apex, as it didn't take me long to regain that ps2 muscle memory, and now apex is why I feel I'm able to come back to ps2 after so many years and feel like my skill has barely degraded. I like playing shooters with similar gun play philosophies/mechanics because the skills you gain in one are easily transferrable to the other.
Dude you are awesome sir, Planetside is lucky to have you! Yo vids are on POINT keep em comin and as always happy shootin! See you on the flip side pew pew👊
After every respawn, and when I step into battle I say... "Hi, Im a Newbie. My Aim is trash. I Suck and thats Ok.👍" Thanks CG! Your videos are helping me out alot!
Thanks that you did this videos to me and other people that are noobs:D btw the assult i like the most is galaxy assult what are yours if youre doing a QNA:) and you just got a new subscriber
I just got into this game, thanks alot for the help! I have been using your Vids for a while. I just got into an outfit and it was super fun. I hope you post more.
I used to have my sensitivity REALLY high up as infantry, but eventually I tried lowing it and yeah, it really does help. I could still use work though. In the heat of combat, I tend to unleash my inner Ork and go full auto while screaming WAAAGH until a grenade kills me or an ally TKs me thinking I'm TR. On a side note, we share your PS2 vids in the Wild Cards[TWC2] discord. Thanks for the great tips/tricks/advice man!
I find it kind of funny that people are willing to play a game where you spawn in, drop from a plane with 0 weapons, die, and start all over again, but can't play planetside 2
They need to make the outfit system more worth joining for example if your in a outfits you automatically join in outfit squad and No one else can join it unless you are of that outfit and give the chance for that outfit to buy a base to spawn there and give a special type of vehicle to use and no not all outfits will have this ability only the 3 main dominate outfits get a base untill another outfit can over dominate that one outfit make it worth joining or being active in outfits.
Also, another thing noteworthy regarding the hack-calling issues, is that a lot of veterans have alternative accounts that look like dirt newbies on surface, but will drop any BR 120 on first sight. Might want to have this more visible to new players.
Basicaly, there are two types of good players. Headshoters and CQC experts, both kill extremely fast, but are much different in their combat styles. While headshoters concentrate on fighting the enemy who's directly in front of them, CQC focused players spend their time by searching for the perfect approach and oportunity to attack. They usualy play light assaults and infiltrators, though some play medics because of their CQC ARs. They are exceptional duelists, when you face one in knifing distance you won't even have a chance to react.
Ahh, "You just suck". Oof, that hit me hard. I've been playing Planetside 2 for about 3-4 years now, and I haven't improved since my first day on the game.
Not trying to rag on ya. Improving is definitely a hard, conscious process, but you can do it. But as long as you are having fun, no need to over think it.
Great video and great work again. After a few years of playing I still suffer this problem and think its because I just suck and they're all aiming better than me. BTW suggestion: watch your audio levels, at 4:11 your background audio of the ingame coms is competing with your voice over track, its hard to focus on what you're saying. And I want to hear it because it sounds critical!
Thanks man. Yeah normally I drop all the background audio, because it is so distracting, just put some background music in. Left it this time so people could hear firing patterns. Unfortunately the comms, Teamspeak, is really distracting. Probably should have just nuked those clips. Appreciate the feedback!
I've often found that in 1 v 1 engagememts, it's better to slide around to throw off your opponent and recenter a counter. That's actually how I use by Bruiser.
Since the start of the game I came to pc fps gaming. was primarily an rts pc, console fps chap. My aim is my biggest weakness. XD Still working on fixing it to this day. Recording myself has really helped me see other common mistakes and bad habits I make. Useful resource indeed, if you can be critical about yourself.
generally speaking, I try to train myself to get headshots by slowly raising my aim on their torso, that gives me a good feel for where the head hitbox starts and helps me identify heads
when you headshot vs chest shot you get different markers, a body shot has a single hit marker whereas a headshot has a thicker double cross headmarker
Here's the thing....... This is a great series, but I would like to point out to new players how drastically different PS2's combat is from other similar shooters, specifically Heroes & Generals. H&G is just a WWII version of PS2 with much smaller maps. H&G also has a similar combat system, though weapons do a little more damage. Coming from this H&G, I still felt a MASSIVE learning curve and had a hard time getting kills. What I'm saying is, PS2 is so different from other games like it, that it actually captures a unusual sense of realism that other, more realisticly set, shooter can't meet.
Ya know, it's probably really weird but. I play OSU! a lot, if you don't know what that is it is basically a music game but you have to click circles to the beat :))). It can get really intense and help you strengthen your aim because your hitting 250 beats per min or possibly even more for harder songs, really teaches you to be accurate and not to over shoot.
I realized it was time to take a break from PS2 when completely on accident I TKed a guy with headshots before I realized I was doing it. Granted we were sweeping up an amp station, and I may have been playing way too many hours at that point....
I tried PS2 a bit at release but didn't play much. Now, many years later, I'm jumping back in and having lots of fun. Can you do a video on how new players should spend their first certs? I tried searching on your channel but couldn't find anything.
That's a good idea! Would love to see this (further helps demystify the idea that new players need tonnes of certs from the get go instead of just being smart with them).
I need to admit that playing csgo has helped me alot with firing at the head though. All the weapons in Planetside 2 have a spray pattern which is easy to learn and thus easy to use. And of course there are alot of weapons in the different armies which can help you with your weaknesses, TR has more damage each bullet while the drop of a bullet is nearly zero with VS. Of course it also depends on your playstyle where you should be aiming at, as an infiltrator with an smg you can spray at the body jsut as much as at the head as you don't get seen anyways. As an heavy assault you have a high amount of ammo which helps alot on mid-range battles, but you do need to land headshots, etc. I missed this in the video, as your playstyle defines where you want to shoot at and what weapon you are using.
I started playing PS2 about a weak ago and i enjoy it alot since most of my friend play the game (and you know that every game's better with friends and they re the ones that guided me to your channel) the only thing that bothers me is the ttk and thats headshots dont kill in one hit, i played counter strike for the past 16 years of my life i have this muscle memory of letting go of the trigger when I think that I got a headshot, I feel that the game doesn't reward players with good aim, or maybe it was intended to be like that to give a higher skill cieling than other games and to avoide random headshots since the battles are so massive. Other than that I find PS2 a great game.
If you want the feel of the One hit headshot kill I recommend purchasing your factions Close Range Bolt Action Sniper Rifle (Planetsiders call it the BASR) You are looking for the TSAR-42 on TR, the Ghost on VS, or the SAS-R on NC. These weapons are one hit headshot kills (As long as your target isn't outside of max damage range, and in those situations I recommend a different weapon anyways. They have a quicker rechamber time and quicker time to ADS (Faster to bring your scope up) than your average sniper rifles, and they allow equiping of less than 6x scopes. Equipping a scope less than 6x eliminates scope sway. Yes, Planetside is unique in that it has a longer TTK in general. Headshots still do TONS more damage than bodyshots. But overall with the shields on shields there is more health to chunk through. If you want the crisp feel of one hit headshot kills, go for the Bolt Actions.
I’ve played this game a week or so, and found myself saying these things. This vid does put my issues in perspective. Great input my friend
You're welcome man. Its a rough road, but you will be better for it. Good hunting!
I think my aim improved just by watching this.
Couldn't you piss straight before?
Haha right on man.
hans underrated comment
Tbh same and I play on ps4
A big part of doing well in plantestide is having a good computer and internet connection. It may go without saying, but having those two things going for you make the world of difference. Having a high FPS is gonna let you hit more shots, live longer, climb walls. When I built a better rig, my K/D went from 1.5ish to 4. Just from having better performance and better internet.
You are correct, right on. Good FPS is an important part of it.
Then more recently the game moved to DX11 and i had to drop all my settings down to their lowest and my K:D dropped to 0.6
Did he just say clip?!
TRIGGERED!!!
Gah, magazine, sorry!
There the same fuckin thing. This isn’t nerf war
True clip is something you empty and magazine is something you read to stay on top of trends
Yes that is a great tip, first shot recoil modifier is important to keep in mind.
That is a terrific comparison.
But for all the newcomers out there:
Stick around...
Right on man!
It took me awhile to get used to the death rate, but then I found peace in C4, kamikazing tanks is a very therapeutic process
I instantly did better
Instantly
The difference was extremely noticeable.
This might be the most essential video yet to share as much as possible to new players. Great write up and suggestions
Thanks man!
Has over 400 hours in game, still watches the video. Love your content man, keep up the great work :)
Right on thanks man.
i love you.not just that this is some quality content but you also make this pearl more appealing to newcomers and keep it alive. keep it up
Thanks man!
Been playing for 5 years, and I still suck. Could be cause I am over 60. LOL
Over 60, that's awesome! Hey there is still shit tons you can contribute even if you don't have laser aim.
Your guids really help, now i know how to play with my friends correctly. You are a legend.
Glad to be of service!
Cyrious:"know what you did wrong"
Random:"you did it"
Planetside 2 and KDR do not mix.
KDR does not really matter in PS2 other than on the personal level. But PS2 and KDR definitely do mix, you can go on some super crazy killstreaks...
Unless you're in one of those massive mosquito swarms around rep galaxies that shit is terrifying
watch my Halloween montages, you'll feel differently
I have like 15 hours and i still don't know wtf is happening but i keep playing because it looks like a nice game when you know your shit
Good for you mate, you’re a rare kind.
You are welcome!
Thanks for watching Cyr!

Hey thank you for these kind of videos i was really hesitant about going into a 6 years old F2P but your new players videos convinced me and i really like the game ! Sometime i even manage to get a kill ! awesome work !
Hey you are welcome, glad I could help!
You will definitely have to find different solutions than the average person using a track ball.
clovermite I have no idea what carpal tunnel problems mean, but perhaps you could try using a controller? If you can use a controller with whatever it is you have that is.
I've tried using an xbox 360 controller. I get better performance out of the trackball. I appreciate the suggestion though
clovermite The steam controller could allow you to use trackpads for fast aiming and its gyro sensor for fine aiming. There are some videos explaining the concept (just search for steam controller FPS) and it seems to work much better than analog sticks.
Ok this has been by far the most informational video for beginners I have ever seen
Thanks man.
Hey! Im a new PS4 player in planet side. Just wanted to let you know that this video gave me a lot of hope about the game. From the very start of downloading it i knew it was a special game and unlike many others. Many of these tips are helpful! Keep up the good work :)
Hey thanks very much Thomas. Welcome to Auraxis soldier!
11:11 “Know what you did wrong-”
“You did it!”
:)
I know you already mentioned that in another video but I think it could've been helpful for new players to have this information in this video here as well ;)
Yeah, you know I probably need to make a whole stand alone video on how to deal with netcode.
I'd totally watch that :D Until now I just try to "feel" when I'm gonna get hit xD
This is one of the best videos on this topic. Thanks for the video mate! Cheers
Thanks man.
Aim for the upper torso, it's the widest part of the body and bloom may result in neck or head shots.
Yes, great tips.
Man, this is such a good vid, every new planetsider needs to watch this.
Thanks man
I've literally said "wtf why is it that I empty an entire clip into someone, they live, but I die in like three shots?!?!?!"
This video is a definite help! I didnt even know half of this stuff even worked in the game. Thanks for the advice!
This is great for newish players like me that can get a few kills but die to quad headshots. Great content.
Awesome to hear it helps! Thanks for watching :)

Awesome video and so true! I was just complaining to friend that all those players killing me were “obviously hacking” 😂
That's right on man, see you out there.
Hey Cyrious im a fan of your work here on yt keep it man, really like ps2 content! I just got into the game , just this year(on ps4) , and im really enjoying it . Thanks for the noob guides lol
Hey you are welcome and thanks for watching!
I honestly feel like the main reason I got hooked on planetside was the first thing I did was look for a squad (since I was coming from mmo rpgs as a healer so I am used to needing groups) and the squads I found was active and helpful, and because of that community I stayed and I am so happy I did
Finding a great crew to run with is what its all about!
Hell yeah dude that was the video i have been looking for not for me but for the players who think i am a hacker especially new ones, thanks man will try to send the link to those players to learn something from it. And by the way good job patty
Glad I could help. HE KNOWS ME, must play Connery every now and again. :)
*watches this video*
*400+ kills needed with NSX Tengu for directive*
Why tho
Keep grinding!
Best advice I received came from a friend that sent me off to VR training. I pull a Sundy drive out and deploy, and for the next 20 minutes practice shooting neck and above. Once my Sundy de-spawns practice is over and into the fight I go.
Right on man, that is the way to get killer aim.
Thanks for all the vids that help the new players like me and others!
You are welcome man!
really good video, really puts how complex and EPIC PS2 is.
most FPS today coddle players to much.
Thanks!
You are right on man, every weapon really has its own effective engagement range.
Thank you for the Video, Cyrious Gaming! I need to take it to heart.
Keep it up m8 :D
You are welcome, will do, thanks!
the reason for those soft mouse pads that inhibit your movement a bit are specifically for being able to stop your mouse when you move it, it has that extra bit of grip you need so it doesn't slide too much when you don't want it to (and like you said it's a preference)
also along with finding the right mouse sensitivity comes finding the right FOV, I love and play on max/100-110 on most games while you and many other players prefer a smaller FOV, that changes your effective sensitivity as well since a lower sensitivity on a lower FOV means you don't have to move as far to get your sights on a target in your FOV so even though your aim is slower you're not moving your mouse as drastically
It's amazing how the devs still support this game
ngl as a new player, you are my favorite ps2 youtube
I've put about 40 hours into the game. I appreciate this advice, the Sensitivity wasn't something I really thought would help. but makes a huge difference. Now when I aim for the upper-chest/head I win way more engagements.
Expert players, yes. I was at a biolab clusterfluck getting killed by someone named PattyFathead.
lol good video man!
Pattyfathead, that tryharding jerk. ;) Whats your name on Connery?
Yeah, man. You'd think he was some kinda youtube guy lol
I usually play TR and I'm C8H9NO2
You spend your time getting learning how to aim, how to behave, how to follow commands and how to move.
Just wait till a moljnir or Aphelion shows up, then you are really in for it.
the only problem with that: everyone knows how to use the vulcan.
Also I don't really see as many mjolnirs as I see vulcans and aphelions being used against me, which might just be luck if it really is that strong :D
btw, any recommended server for playing nc?
*clap*
You heard that ?
No?
Lemme show you 0:20
Heard it now ?
That right there
IS THE UNIVERSAL MEANING OF TRUTH
got into the game and only sunk 44 hours.
More amazing info. It took me ages to figure out everything you just said here.
Never have to face players drastically better then you in Overwatch? You're pretty funny man +1 sub
Dude you are awesome sir, Planetside is lucky to have you! Yo vids are on POINT keep em comin and as always happy shootin! See you on the flip side pew pew👊
Right on man, thanks for the good vibes. Will see you out there!
Listen to Thanos, kids. Go for the head!
Nothing is more epic than do a full platoon gal drop. Love that. And thanks for subscribing!
This should be a mandatory video to watch before getting into planetside 2 for the first time!
I just got into this game, thanks alot for the help! I have been using your Vids for a while. I just got into an outfit and it was super fun. I hope you post more.
Hey man, right on! Yes more vids in the pipeline, good hunting out there!
Hey right on, thanks for spreading the word on my videos!
That is a cool idea.h
Needs some spit and polish, namely no exclusive vehicles, as this screws over smaller, more isolated communities
4:12 nah its because HA require you to have no awareness, take damage, push active and just retaliate.
Thanks for all the tips!Y will us them the next time i play!Good Video!
Right on!
I played PS2 since Beta... now i started again and your video is really helpfull :)
Hey glad I could help!
Knowing all this, why do mana turrets even exist?
Appreciate the feedback!
where is he at 10 minutes and seven seconds and how to get thier
That is the VR training room. Look for a terminal with a globe on it in the warpgate, that will have an option to transport to VR training room.
thanks
Playing overwatch helped me a ton in ps2 with my hip fire use. I always aimed down sights and got wrecked in cqc.
Yep, right on man.
It's trippy seeing somebody shooting at a cloaker with 720p no fullscreen.
Hehe
Dose bloom effect only hip fire? Or ads to like BF4?
Dude thanks this cleared things up I just spent 3 hours getting clapped left and right and I thought it was just my gun that was garbage xD
generally speaking, I try to train myself to get headshots by slowly raising my aim on their torso, that gives me a good feel for where the head hitbox starts and helps me identify heads
when you headshot vs chest shot you get different markers, a body shot has a single hit marker whereas a headshot has a thicker double cross headmarker
Great vid btw
Here's the thing.......
This is a great series, but I would like to point out to new players how drastically different PS2's combat is from other similar shooters, specifically Heroes & Generals. H&G is just a WWII version of PS2 with much smaller maps. H&G also has a similar combat system, though weapons do a little more damage. Coming from this H&G, I still felt a MASSIVE learning curve and had a hard time getting kills.
What I'm saying is, PS2 is so different from other games like it, that it actually captures a unusual sense of realism that other, more realisticly set, shooter can't meet.
Right on man.
Ahh cool that is probably a great way to train reflexes and muscle memory.
I have not done a video on that yet. I will try to get to that one!
That's a good idea! Would love to see this (further helps demystify the idea that new players need tonnes of certs from the get go instead of just being smart with them).
I tell this to new players. Aim for the chest under the chin. You have a higher chance to hit, and the recoil will normally put two in the head
Yep thats right on man.
Thanks for that burst suggestion will really help!
So if’s like battlefield when it comes to the shooting
If you want the crisp feel of one hit headshot kills, go for the Bolt Actions.
good job man you made me improve a lot on the game
