I think the murder of Brett was supposed to be a mis-direct for the audience. I feel like it was supposed to make the viewer think that Denise Richards was the murderer, making us more surprised when she dies at the end, and to find out her mother was behind the killings.
I found Kirsten’s accent totally authentic for a small town in Minnesota. They have stronger accents in the small towns. Plus Minnesota is practically 100% Swedes and Norwegians.
Hai Eiden Yes! My ex-husband’s father is from a tiny town in Iowa on the border of Minnesota (in Worth County, I think), and both of his parents were Norwegian immigrants. I absolutely LOVE their accent! Now I want some lefse and lingonberries!
It wasn’t until a later watch through that I realized kirstie must’ve been pregnant with Denise when she won the pageant cause she said 17 years ago she won and it’s for 17 year old girls
*Brittany Murphy’s laugh in this is eve-ry-thing!!!* I know it may seem like kind of a weird compliment to give but personally I find it extremely difficult to produce a fake laugh that not only feels genuine (not to mention mad guttural) but that is also able to make you laugh right along with it. In fact, while other people laughing certainly helps to get me ready/in the mood for a good laugh, there have been very few moments in my life thus far where someone’s laugh, and their laugh alone, has had me *completely* losing my shit. And Brittany’s laugh in this had me absolutely *dying* every single time she pulled it out. What an incredible talent who’s sorely missed!
I feel like my whole life has been leading to this moment - that song that Kirsten Dunst was tap dancing to is definitely an actual song. It's the instrumental version of Pressure Man by the vaguely famous NZ band The Feelers - they were basically my soundtrack for the late 90s but I doubt you'd know them unless you were from NZ and within a very specific age bracket.
Also also, your Maine airbnb show with Mindy and Cheri should be a mockumentary style sitcom. I imagine a cross between office meets fawlty towers called FlairBnB. Maybe Mindy and Cheri are the owners and desk people, get Nick Offerman as the repairman and Molly shannon could be the head chef and Chris Kattan as the gardener! I would be down to watch that show!
Fun fact: Daria was also completely rescored (don't know if this applies to music that they didn't write) because of insane licensing costs. I felt this was relevant because Daria and drop dead gorgeous feel like they have some Venn diagram crossover.
Whenever my friends and I watch this movie (and it’s a lot, because I have been lugging around multiple DVD copies since college and am angry there’s still no Blu-ray release) we have a debate about why Denise Richards is the only one without a deep Minnesota accent. So far we have three options: A) conscious character choice designed to show that she believes she is different from everyone B) she tried and the director said “Oh no stop that.” C) she thinks she’s doing it and no one had the heart to tell her differently.
I am literally watching an old VHS copy of this with a friend right now. We had to go to Best Buy to get the appropriate cables for the VCR. The guy acted like he didn't know what we meant by "we need all the cables" but we got there.
It was supposed to be called "Sugar & Spice & Semiautomatics," but then Columbine happened. And for anyone who doesn't know: Lona Williams, who wrote "Drop Dead Gorgeous," also wrote "Sugar & Spice" but under a pseudonym.
Death Becomes Her. Troop Beverly Hills. Clue. Cruel Intentions. Hocus Pocus. Wet Hot American Summer. Clueless. Heathers. And now.... Drop Dead Gorgeous!! HOW/WHY DO YOU GUYS LOVE ALL OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES?!?? Also, I am NOT the type of person who goes around quoting movies all the time. Simply because most dialogue, no matter how amazing it is, just never seems to stick with me. Except for every single line in this movie!! I always put on my best Minnesota accent (Which is pretty bitchin’ if I do say so myself!) Anytime I see a super hot guy who’s younger than me I always whisper “Hey to the folks!” to myself and/or whoever I’m with. Haha. I also love to go off on the “Goddamn Frieda sign” tangent. As well as go through the entire pork commercial... “Oh, I just *love* St Paul pork products! In fact, I love ‘em soooo much, I work here now!!” Hahahahahaha. I fucking *love* this movie!! (And you guys are pretty fucking rad too!!) Thank you sooooo much for this!!! XOXO
Could my day get any better? I got home from work, poured a glass of wine (don't judge), opened UA-cam and a review of Drop Dead Gorgeous is here when I just watched this movie last week?! I am unworthy

I LOVE YOU GUYS FOR DOING THIS REVIEW!!!!! My best friend and I went and saw this at a late showing when it came out. It was me and him (2 gays) and a the rest of the audience were straight couples on dates. WE laughed a lot and we laughed loud. The straights didn't get the humor. It was fabulous!!! I hope they release this on blu ray with a shit ton of extras, please baby jesus make it so!!! You guys bring so much joy!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!
Somebody probably already answered this, but on the off chance they didn't: the song playing when Kirsten Dunst does her tap performance is called "Pressure Man", by a New Zealand rock band called The Feelers. The actual song has lyrics, but given that said lyrics are talking about "pressure *man* "...yeah, they just used the instrumentals for the movie. I know this because I had a good friend living in New Zealand at the time, who sent me their cd...I was actually pretty shocked to hear it in the movie. lol
I love that other people love this film as much as i do!! I have made many friends/acquaintances/passers-by watch it and they were always a bit meh about it. I'm happy to say i am reassured of its genius now
I got drunk while watching this movie and Fargo one night while living in Louisville, and got soooooooo homesick I actually called my mom back in MN to get her recipe for tater tot hotdish🙄🙄🙄
Having been born and raised in Wisconsin, I can say that this movie, along with "Fargo", are the two movies that Minnesotans always say "We don't talk like that!". But .... they do. The Minna-soda accent is perfectly reproduced in DDG.

oooh can't wait to settle with my morning coffee and watch this - have you guys listened to the switchblade sisters episode about drop dead gorgeous? I just listened to it last week!
Ellen Barkin is hilarious in this, but I'd love to see you guys review what I consider her best dramatic role: the embattled wife of Robert DeNiro in "This Boy's Life" -- the movie which also was the moment when I predicted that 17-year-old Leo DiCaprio was going to be a major star. (Yes, I'm THAT old).
No, Ma never hid that my Dad choose his career over me. What does she say?? Once a carney always a carney. She still cries whenever she sees a Tilt-a-Whirl or a fat lady in a tube top.
As soon as this review started I immediately liked! And yes, it be awesome as a musical with the ending that she doesn't win and then when she comes back home, someones like "OMG that crazy lady's on the roof shooting at everyone!" and it goes on from the movie ending. Also Amy Adams characters ends up in a thrumple in the musical
I just wanted to watch 5 minutes or so of this video and be on my way. But no, I watched it till the end. You did it again, MovieBitches. You did it again.
I'm surprised you've not seen the reason why the guy (Brett?) Died? He turned down Denise Richards and she went home and bitched about him to her mum, next thing you know he's dead? She already killed Tammy it's not such a stretch
A part of the ending that got cut was during the standoff when Gladys was going nuts, she shot and killed the Japanese couple who adopted Molly, and Molly was being shoved back into the orphanage truck. That's why you see the Lutheran orphanage or whatever truck in the end.
You guys literally inspire me to watch movies. The only reason i even watched this is because you guys did a review and its FUCKING AMAZING. You guys seriously do make peoples lives better with everything you do
THIS MOVIE. HOLY CRAP. I saw this when I was like in elementary school and convinced my parents to let me watch it with them because it had Allison Janney in it (who I just knew as my favorite character on West Wing). So many of these jokes just flew over my head but I remember cracking up at the explosions and the fused beer can hand. But then I could never remember what it was called! Thanks bitches! Now I know I need to go rewatch it and appreciate it all the more!

So glad you mentioned the song for the tap dance, I'm a Kiwi and this is an iconic New Zealand band called The Feelers. Song is Pressure Man, definitely a 90s jam, I remember being so amazed that there was a Kiwi song in an American movie. ua-cam.com/video/oeHaxYvJgTE/v-deo.html
I have to ask, when are you guys going to post the other half of All Stars 4? Are you planning on waiting until a couple of weeks till All Stars 5 starts then roll into that, then season 12 of Drag Race? Like right straight in a row?
So you know what would have been great? If one of the girls was like a gretchen wieners type and her family were co-owners of either General Mills or Hormel (both are based in MN) and her hat was like a can of spam or a box of cheerios! And was like this great country was built on great american products or something along those lines. Also if was a more adapt drawer, I would totally do a fan art pic of you guys as ellen and allison's characters. Or maybe you guys should defo try to dress up as them for halloween.
You two made me laugh on a rough day, thank you. I can't find my *vhs* copy of this, thought I had on DVD and isn't streaming and I was looking to watch this tonight. My best friend and I have been away from each other forever due to covid and this is one of those movies we know line for line, best damn tapper, I got some, most smartest... today was just a day I needed to laugh, watching you two was like the two of us together in the before times so thank you. xoxo Airport HoJo!
22:36 In a certain point in the movie I though it's Kristen Dunst all behind it. I was a little disappointed she isn't, because it's a much better ending.
I think the murder of Brett was supposed to be a mis-direct for the audience. I feel like it was supposed to make the viewer think that Denise Richards was the murderer, making us more surprised when she dies at the end, and to find out her mother was behind the killings.
“They’ve had John travolta and Kirstie alley for decades” you make it sound like they’re slaves or something.
Oh wait...
I am so unbelievably happy about this! ❤️ You know who doesn’t get the love they deserve? Kirsten Dunst.
Agree! Remember her in that vampire movie? She stole her scenes!
I'm rocking back and forth delirious with joy, they finally did this review and it's everything I ever wanted! I found my people ❤❤❤❤😂
RecoveringChristian Yes!
JP M interview with the vampire? Yes.
Her roles in Mary Antoinette and melancholia? Wow
I love how excited Avaryl gets over movies they completely make up. Need to see a faux trailer 😆
I found Kirsten’s accent totally authentic for a small town in Minnesota. They have stronger accents in the small towns. Plus Minnesota is practically 100% Swedes and Norwegians.
Totally! Theres a town of 50 near where I'm from where they sound right off the boat from Norway

sure, Jan.
Yes thank you please 👏🏻 here 👏🏻 for 👏🏻 it
As a native Minnesotan, can I just tell you how much I have always LOVED this movie?! And FYI, we don't have a Mount Rose, but we do have a Rosemount.

@@LauraleeandaukuleleBlogspot - How could I forget Montrose? The MN accent is baked right in, yoo betcha!

Trevor Wuori she had a big ass then and she has a big ass now
I love that at the beauty pageant Gladys is wearing the heart of the ocean necklace that they sold on TV when the Titanic move came out. So classy.

D) she's been getting coached by her mother not to have the accent so she'd do better in national pageants. Thinking the accent is a liability.

The Brady Bunch movie BETTER be on the list! LOL. I’m so excited for this current review though
Andrew reminds me of David from Schitts Creek. I love your channel! You guys are fun!
YES! YES! YES! thank you!!! Finally!!
I literally watched this yesterday!
Yeah I should do a Serial Mom retro review
22:36 In a certain point in the movie I though it's Kristen Dunst all behind it. I was a little disappointed she isn't, because it's a much better ending.
