I just read the best quote from Joel Schumacher. While directing "Phantom of the Opera," someone was giving Minnie Driver shit for being too "over the top." He apparently didn't even look up from his New York Times when he said, "Oh honey, nobody pays to watch UNDER the top."
That movie, honest to God made me think that The Phantom was supposed to be not a good singer and that's why everyone hated him. Also I was 8 when it came out so...
@@FLATTZCLUR Hahaha! I can totally understand that. I actually recently found the CD burn and fake cover I made for the soundtrack when I was 14 and it was making fun of the movie SO hard. And yes I had an illegal copy of the movie soundtrack so I could jokingly sing it with my sister but it's actually a very cherished memory so I regret nothing
FINALLY someone talks about George Clooney’s horrible line reading! Every review I’ve watched/listened to always say that he was good or he did the best he could with what he had (which he didn’t). It’s like everyone is afraid to say something bad about him even though he’s the worst part of the movie (not that it was great to begin with). I knew you guys wouldn’t disappoint me lol
Katya on Mr Freeze: "He's very like P-town float carnival week in the end of August... That muscle queen who did too much toot toot and went crazy on her costume. Sweating halfway through the thing and passes out. She's a lot."
Looking back, I think the Tim Burton Batman movies were almost as camp as the Joel Schumacher ones. But they were just wrapped up in more of his gothic aesthetic (and people only had the Adam West Batman to compare it to), so a lot of the fanboy types thought it was a lot less camp than it actually was. Like, the first Tim Burton Batman movie introduced the concept of having the actor wear black eye makeup under the mask to make the masked hero's eyes look more like they do in the comics, and that is such a camp choice. I just remember at the time, so many of my teenaged comic shop friend circle at the time was just so upset about how "silly" Schumacher had made Batman as if the Burton movies were the Nolan ones.
The Burton films were definitely campy, but the camp was just done better, and I think the other themes helped balance it out. As well as better written.....and acting.
I refuse to believe that neither Avaryl, Katya or Andrew didn't clock that Poison Ivy's gorilla reveal was a reference to Marlene Dietrich in Blonde Venus
I think there's really something to be said for how incredibly well you both work with a guest- you always bring such chemistry and give them room to shine and share!! Love your content always but you're both such great HOSTS as well, love you both lol
I gasped so loudly at 23:44 that I think I scared my husband. Don't talk about Danny Ocean that way. :( This was my first time watching you guys and I'm totally subscribing. Thank you, UA-cam Al Gore Rhythm.

so excited for another review with Katya! I remember as a kid, i loved Batman forever which to me is the perfect mix between camp and serious. You got Jim Carrey hamming it up and a stoic tommy lee jones (with half purple face) but it had a story you could follow easily but it was still fun. But this...omg! I wonder what the script read like.
This movie took everything that was great about the 90s and gave us WAY TOO MUCH of it. With a some restraint, and better writing, it could have been AMAZING- except for George Clooney. Nothing can save him. 😘
the planning to get all of these incredible retro reviews together has made inside pride feel a little more festive and I really wanna thank you for the work you put into it. means a lot :)
Oh my god... When I got the notification, I thought it was a funny edit you guys make and inserted Katya's laugh with the scenes of the movie... The massive burst of excitement I felt when I realised that it is a full fledge review 😭 😭 😭. You are feeding us with elite level content this Lockdown. Thank you so much!!!
My gift this pride season was Katya stanning Batman Returns. Favorite Batman film, period. The ONLY Catwoman, forever. I also rewatch Michelle Pfeiffer's scenes from that glorious film.
i once had an "encounter" with a guy during a watch of this, to this day i cant hear mr freeze's puns without flashing back to trying to focus on the job at hand with that in the background 🤣
"Ghostwriter" show on PBS in early 90's (mystery solving ghost with a group of kid detectives) is the first thing I thought Katya was talking about at the end there. (I'm probably the only one tho).
36:47 I love the way Katya reacts when she realizes you're doing the Alicia ''hi...yah'' bit again, and just starts wheezing. Also, Poison Ivy sure said ''curses!'' in reaction to her defeat. I ask, where is their writing Oscar?
I find it interesting that Katya, while still being funny comes across as very intelligent. I would love to watch her do movie commentaries and reviews even if she did them seriously instead of comedically. They correctly predicted that Venom 2 would make the fact that Venom and the guy are an item with the girl making them a thruple, canon.
All I want in life is to see Avaryl and Katya, maybe in matching belted jumpsuits, acting out various scenes from Showgirls. Avaryl is Elizabeth Berkley and Katya Gina Gershon. Duh.
@@canyouwhenyourdrunk I don't think so. I thought it was kinda shady of them for them to be like where is he. He went off to raise a family. Plus he gets to be on a hit show so not to shabby.

I enjoyed this retro review, but I’ll be honest I missed what you all were talking about multiple times because I was distracted thinking “my god, Katya is gorgeous”
I got the whole 90s batman collection when I was around 7. And this was and is one of my favs to just watch out Boredom. I love how camp it is. Bat girl and poison ivy where my childhood Idols. Explains a lot really

The jerk is the obvious choice, but my favorite movie of his that he directed is dead men don’t wear plaid which is so amazing and I don’t think enough people know about or I just watched fatal instinct which is stupid and silly but not as good but still entertaining.
Thank God for Avaryl and her other Batman movie knowledge. Every moment Andrew just sits in awkward silence drinking his own wine is a drinking game in itself
What a fun episode! Definitely one of those so-bad-it's-good-but-no-it's-actually-just-bad movies. It's funny how I haven't really thought of Clooney as a bad actor before but you are absolutely right.
