Great intro, peace bro✌🏼My mother grew up in Florence,Italy during the war, my grandfather was shot in the back by the Nazis and left for dead, but he lived. My mother told me of Italians hiding the precious art in their homes so they could keep them away and safe. Florence survived, their art survived and so shall we. Be safe and thanks for creating.
I loved hearing that story from you. Thank you for sharing!
I’m so thankful you continued to make videos. They are an important part of how I am redefining what I want my life to look like post pandemic. I appreciate you documenting your art and it’s process. It is a blessing to me.
You are helping keep the rest of us out of work potters sane. Keep up the videos please
Your videos bring me so much joy. I would rather watch one than a movie. Please keep producing them.
Haha. Thank you so much
Your art and your life are an inspiration. Do not sell yourself short.
Thank you for the encouragement
Glad to see you use cone packs. We were taught at Herron to make our cone packs with the cone before, the cone temp you want, and the cone higher so you can tell the actual “heat work” that is going on in your kiln. Even though I only have electric digital kilns, I always use several cone packs, putting them in different spots on different shelves, to tell the “story” of each firing.
I look forward to your videos, even more now that we are quarantined. We need the inspiration and art to help remind us what is possible and beautiful right now. Keep them up. Thank you.
Thank you. I’m glad you enjoy them.
Hi Matt! Apart from the definite historical/cultural value of your videos and your art, the social aspects of you sharing your work through this medium are especially timely right now! Being able to watch and listen to you describe your pieces and processes is about as close as we can get to being there in person visiting with you, and it is very satisfying to share the experience with you, absolutely a great way to keep the feelings of isolation at bay. Thanks for being such a great and generous companion, we all (I'm sure) look forward to the next visit & video.
Thank you so much. I’m glad you enjoy the videos!
Preach, brother! We still have soldiers whose job it is to preserve art and culture. I live alone, and these videos from you and others are very helpful. I look forward to them. Keep up the great work.
Thank you! I’m glad to be a help.
Your videos are necessary to me! Please keep doing what you’re doing - they inspire me.
I saw the movie...please keep inspiring us. Its not just a craft ..its art!
Yes it is. Thanks
Thought I'd add another thought. Its not so much about the need to see a new video, but having new matter, especially if we'd seen all your past videos, would give inspiration in continuing to be creative, especially through these difficult times.
It's great to see you create and talk about what is going on where you are. It's good for us, to be able to put it in perspective, and from a selfish point of view, having factual videos about how you create these pots, is the next best thing to attending a workshop or art class or gallery; of which are non are possible at this current time.
I just hope you get as much out of making your video diaries, as we get from watching them!
Thank you. I am glad to hear that you get so much out of the videos!
Thank you for your skill and artistry influence .....and entertainment, in my life. An uplifting energy for us all in crazy times.
You’re very welcome!
Avalanche. Even if we're just watching we need
the CONNECTIONS now more than ever.
I agree we do need the connections but that didn’t stop me from feeling like it was unnecessary. That shirt was from a young adults group at the church my father in law pastored.
Thank you Matthew. Your videos do inspire! You are a rock start!
Well said! You inspire me to strive for your quality!
Awesome!
Thank You
You are an inspiration and joy to watch. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much
Thanks for the inspirational video and a look at your bisque firing!!
Nice pots!! TURTLE POWER!!
Thank you. Yes, turtle power. Haha
You are awesome and inspiring. You got a fire going under this old man to get busy. Thank you.
Awesome! Go go go
Your videos are always inspirational!!! Love hearing your thoughts on life as a Potter, and just in general. Pottery can sometimes be a lonely process, so it's nice to share the experience with others. Don't stop making videos. 👍😊
Thank you. Yes it can be lonely and so can making videos when no one is there to respond as you talk. Haha
I appreciate the video, and the additional intro. These videos really do help people, possibly more than you know. You said it yourself, you see other potter's work and are inspired. You provide that inspiration as well. In fact, your livestreams have inspired me to try some, with my students, who I won't see for a month, possibly longer. I've done plenty of demos, in my years teaching, and even a few supplementary videos. But I have yet to try a livestream...
In regards to the unloading, I had an issue with some dunting cracks, like you experienced on your jars. Mine was in my small Raku kiln. I tried the same bowl design three times, and it cracked each time. I some cases it cracked in the kiln, other times, it wasn't until it was in the reduction bin. The form was just always right in the flame path, and other than changing the form completely. not much I could do. I'll get back to it some day...
Thanks for sharing. I hope the classes go well if you do any with your students
So cool!
Thanks
I appreciate your videos. Please continue making during these times
I’m glad you do and I plan to keep going.
Mathew, you are such an inspiration to all those aspiring artists out there. Your humble attitude is comforting and reminds me of a saying I heard somewhere "I aspire to inspire before I expire". I found myself smiling through the entire video. Thank you for an enjoyable break from my boredom. Looking forward to the next video.
Awesome! I’m so glad you enjoyed it.
Keep this stuff coming!
You got it. Good to see you on the live streams.
I look forward to your videos Matt.
Thank you!
Videos are needed!
Reality 101: at this point, social media is our social life right now. Your videos help those of us who do not have access to a pottery studio to keep our imagination alive. Do you ever use Amoco's bisque fix for cracked bisque ware? It will be fun to see how the broken glass bubbles catch the glazes in the final fire.
One thing I miss fro the pottery studio is soaking cotton string and cotton yarn in slip and laying it onto leather hard greenware to sculpt landscapes, and to make handles. Cotton yarn makes amazing trees, and it's so much fun to add glass beads for leaves, and fruits. Cotton string makes great water streams and waves. I now wish I could soak cotton string in glaze and apply to bisque ware. I miss the pottery studio.
You are right. I’m not stopping I just had the thoughts and wanted to share them. Cheers and good luck when you get back in the studio.
You really inspire us buddy.....keep up the good work .....cheers from India
Thank you. I’m glad to hear that. Cheers
Don't think that Matt, your videos are extremely inspiring and a welcome diversion from Covid. Please don't stop.
Thanks Cliff
Really enjoy watching your videos. Did you have any kiln plans your drew off of?
Your entertaining, inspirational.
Love the turtle mugs can't wait.
I love Bob Ross
Haha. Thanks! Yeah I’m excited for the turtle mugs
I really liked the pre-intro intro. You are an inspiration to me, keep up the great work. These videos provide me/us an outlet during the time that we are isolating ourselves - thank you! Right now I am doing my third bisque firing in my new kiln. So far no real big mishaps in bisque. Had some problems with glaze though. I know I need to adjust my bisque firing schedule for thicker pieces to improve on organic burnout. Hope to be up for your second woof kiln opening, good luck!
Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed it. What temp or cone are you bisque firing to?
@@MatthewKellyPottery I bisque to cone 04
@@MatthewKellyPottery I have an L&L Quadfire 6.7 cu. ft. kiln and use the pre-programmed slow bisque firing schedule.
It could be just a clay and glaze combo issue. I’ve had that before and it had nothing to do with bisque temp
@@MatthewKellyPottery I thought that too. I was using a P5 porcelain with an Amaco blue glaze that I sprayed on. I don't think I will be using the P5 any more anyway. I will probably go with Little Loafers. It throws very similar.
TOP!🇧🇷
Morning Matthew hope you find this message I'm curious on your gas kiln is it homemade or a package Product Thanks in advance great work by the way
Have you ever done a single fire glaze?
I have and depending on the clay and glaze fit and the type of firing I have had varied success.
Greetings I would like to know if you guys do sell a fired bisque that is ready to be painted? . thanks
No I don’t.
I can't remember, why do you have the large hole on the bottom of the big pots?
I put holes in them in case people want to use them outside. That way the water can drain out the bottom.
Is there a reason besides carrying that there’s a hole in the bottom?
Yes the hole in the bottom is in case someone wants the piece to be in a garden or an outside setting it will drain water.
Matthew Kelly Pottery makes sense. Thanks so much for the reply!
Did someone sock you in the nose ???
Bruce C he’s been having bad allergies
If you’re referring to my large red nose it’s large thanks to my mom’s side of the family and it’s red bc of the spring pollen. Cheers, haha 👃
