    this video really took me back to when I had a "2 man" small pottery back in the 70's/80's. I did all the glazing, kiln firings amongst all the other things to do with running a business, my partner did all the throwing. Thanks Matthew for reminding me :)

    All those Christmas ornaments! Must be getting towards winter if you are cranking out those amazing ornaments! So nice that you are also using your skills to help the local hospice.

      Yes, thankfully I spray the ash glaze on most of them which is why you see me laying them out on boards. That makes it much quicker.

    Does firing in a gas kiln make it looks any different vs an electric kiln. Will the glaze colors still look bright and pretty?

    great work! I really like the way you handled the glazing of the mugs, very efficient. was wondering, in the spray booth, were you finishing off the bottom 2/3 of the mugs with another glaze? or are they just left unglazed?

    Can I ask what you are doing to your shelves before you put them in? And for the shelves with just flat pieces on them, are you just putting wadding as props? Am about to make a lot of pendants and keen to maximize on space. Just did our first gas firing today. Not finished yet. Opening tomorrow. Exciting!

      I was sanding the shelves before loading. I use silicon carbide sandpaper to remove any debris left from previous firings. I don’t use any wadding in my gas kiln usually. I have 1” posts that I cut to use for short shelves.

    Did you do a video on how you put the glass on your ornaments ?

    • @MatthewKellyPottery
      @MatthewKellyPottery  4 роки тому

      No. We just place a small piece of glass on top after they’re glazed. I had my son help me with that bc I had so many that needed to be done.

      So is it broken glass or glass squares maybe from hobby shop?

    • @MatthewKellyPottery
      @MatthewKellyPottery  4 роки тому +1

      It’s a large sheet that I cut with a glass cutter.

    Did you glaze the ornaments on both sides? And if so, how did you place them in the kiln without them sticking to the boards? I want to make a mobile for my nice but want the ornaments to be glazed on both side (because they’re going to turn, obviously).
