Can You Fire Bisque In A Gas Kiln?

  • Yes you can! Here I am unloading my Olympic 2831G Updraft kiln with a load of bisque. I fire all my pots with as only. Here is a video on what it looks like when the pots are done. I fire all the firing manual.

    Ive always fired with propane. Mostly because i cant afford multiple kilns or even commercial kilns. So I built my own gas kiln and I bisque fire with it. I have no automation on my kiln. I have to babysit it and regulate the gas flow manually. I think bisque works fine with gas. Just need to find a way to turn it way down. Nice channel. Keep it going. I really like this approach.

      Thanks for the comment! I fired with gas for the very same reason it was far cheaper for original hookup. Also firing manual for all these years allowed me to learn and experiment. Now I can't imagine firing any kiln without being there. I have been lucky . I have found kilns cheap or folks give them to me because they know I fire.

    Your pots turned out great. Hope to get a gas kiln someday, Have to move out of the rental before I can. Really enjoy your videos! you need to post more with all your free time and now that you are famous LOL

      Haaaa! I do hope to post more! I forgot how easy it is to post with a nice cell phone. Back in the day we had to use handheld cameras! haaa!

    a lot of pots fit in the kiln! I am only used to 2.6 cubic foot LOL
