    Dave thank you for the videos! Showing in detail how the Mara X comes to temperature helped me decide it's perfect for my needs. I was able to jump on the December batch of orders from 1st Line in the US and mine arrived today. "Mara X"mas to me!

    So could I theoretically just keep pulling shots at a stable temp as long as I don't wait the 5 mins. I regularly have 6 people over, this machine could pull 6 shots in a row with stable and accurate temp?
    Also, is the steam power enough to properly fold 250ml of milk? And if so, could I steam three times in a row to make 6 lattes?
    Sorry for all the questions but I'm about to dump a lot of money on this and want to be sure it can handle it haha.

      It can do shots in a row, although the first shot will be the most accurate...I did do a table in the written review, to give you wait times. Check it out. coffeeequipmentreviews.wordpress.com/2020/03/10/lelit-marax-review-in-progress/#specific-temps

    Hi Dave!
    First and foremost, thank you for the content.
    I was wondering how the Lelit will react temperature wise, if I pull a or multiple shots, leave it on for let’s say 20/30 minutes and then want to pull another series of shot. Will the temperature rise a lot, and then needed to cool down again?
    I have seen your videos, and I don’t think this is explained

      I think I did a guidance chart. coffeeequipmentreviews.wordpress.com/2020/03/10/lelit-marax-review-in-progress/ It is for the machine that came before the latest one and had HX Mode and Espresso boost mode. Now you have xmode coffee (espresso only) and the other mode which is the espresso boost mode. My review is more relevant for that other mode rather than Xmode coffee...which was my idea, as I thought HX mode wasn't so useful.

    Hi Dave,
    Been following your UA-cam for some time and your comments via several forums. You seem to be a expert on Lelit Mara X, so I figured I’d ask here.
    My machine has been experiencing very long warm up times (roughly 35-45 minutes; in order to get 2 solid pilot lights). For a while my steam pressure seemed inconsistent too.
    I took the machine to be serviced by the supplier. They mentioned the vacuum breaker valve had some calcification (they figured this was the source to my issues). After bringing my machine home my warm up times remain very long (steam seems to be a bit better, but nothing drastic).
    I am wondering what could be the cause. Bad electric wire? Bad sensor somewhere?
    Supplier suggested I check my outlet. However, I tried a new outlet and machine took a long time still to stop blinking. A weird glitch is that if I shut off the machine for a couple seconds and turn it back on, the pilot lights then solid upon the reboot. Not sure if you have a clue but wondering if maybe you could point me to some leads.

    Thanks Dave for your videos and in general for your contributions to the home barista community. I have a question regarding the new X mode Coffee in the Mara X V2. Does the group temperature remain stable after leaving the machine alone for more than 5 minutes? I can see that in V1’s brew mode the temperature does climb up after 5 minutes so I was wondering if things are now different with the new X Mode Coffee. I pull only double espressos and tend to take my time to sip my coffee in between shots. Thanks!

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  2 роки тому +2

      X-mode coffee is the pure espresso mode I asked them to design instead of pure HX mode (I found that useless). I also asked them to increase the duration of steam boost in the other mode. So yes the temps remain stable, but of course you don't get much steam. So enjoy your coffee between shots in X-mode, no problem.

    Hello,
    Thank you for all your great videos. I would like to ask you a question. I have been using a lelit mara x for 3 weeks on which I have installed a probe thermometer on the group, I do not use the eco mode which caused the temperature to fluctuate too much. Since yesterday I have a big temperature problem, on the temperature range "0" so 90 to 92 ° C my machine does not go below 96 ° C during the extraction. Normally the machine remains stable whatever the time it remains on at 89 to 90°C (group temperature) and 91 to 92°C extraction temperature. I use always filtered water and it is backflushed. I hope I was clear enough and that the translation is not too bad. I contacted customer service for my machine but any help would be appreciated. If you have an idea, thank you in advance.

      @@DaveCorbey from what i observed watching your video, if the Mara x stays in idle mode it builds up brewing temperature (at least after a series of pulling espressos - don't know about the initial startup of the machine) due to longer exposure to HX steam and you have 2 options: either leave it for approx. 15 min to cool down on it's own or "help" it with a flush. Lelit's credit is for creating a system that will allow you to pull espresso shots within 3 - max 4 min in between with the same ~ controlled temperature (VS rest of the market with zero control). Cedric mentioned that "normally the machine remains stable [ref to temperature] whatever the time ..." but this in is in contradiction with what we saw in the video. Because of the video i believe your version. Coming back to Cedric's issue, sounds like he only has to flush some water out of the group to lower the temp and get into the max 4 mins in between cycle. Or am I missing something? (btw i am looking to buy a new machine : Mara vs Elizabeth. I do espresso shots 90%. Is the quality of the espresso the same between the two of them in your opinion? :) ) Many thanks

      I have the same issue with my Mara X V2, only one week old. In coffee priority mode, if you leave it for >4 mins after the last shot, the temperature will rise well above 96 or more. Takes about 15mins to stabilize, flushing won‘t help as it seems to throw off the system even more…

    • @Ericsnuus
      @Ericsnuus Рік тому

      @@pescheeis it due to design of the Mara that it needs to boost temperature after four minutes so that you can steam milk or is it inherently feature of hx machines which you cant disable?

      @@Ericsnuus Not sure if boosting is specific to E61 HX machines, since they all overheat which is why you have to do cooling flushes. But I guess in this instance, it is specific to the Mara X and its brew mode.

    Hey Dave. Sorry I dont get it. 🙈 I've the following issue and dont know how to handle this. When I start my routine in the morning and wait about 25 minutes after I start the maschine, I take the first shot with about 91 degree in position 0 which is fine i think. The steam bar presure was between 1 and 1,5 when I take this first shot. Then i prepare the second one and start the shot about 4 minutes after the first one; the steam preasure is an exact 1,5 and the degree jumps to 95/96 then. Like you shown here. Which is too hot and quite different to the first shot and the wished 91 degree. What can i do to meet also 91 degree on the second shot. Hope Somebody can help, cause i dont get an answer in any blogs. ^^ 😊

    I am new to HX and I need to decide what is right for me. What is the correlation between boiler pressure and water temperature for brew? As I understand, when the boiler pressure is high that mean the heating element is active and the water temperature will be too high. But I can control that? Read the boiler pressure from the gauge and if it's too high just do a flush until it drops and then brew?
    I am an espresso guy, the only reason I will choose a HX is for my girlfriend (who needs one ?) and for other people that visit me. But I want to know for sure if I can control the temperature precisely for espresso.

      Yes you can leave it at 10 or drop it to 9.5 or 9 if you want. Some people even go lower but I think 9 is good as a minimum. Then as you say, just forget about it and enjoy the machine. Adjustment is easy to do once the case is off.

      @@DaveCorbey I'm on a question frenzy :) ... Mara X , because it's a HX, it always has steam "prepared" , right? i mean , you can pull a shot of espresso and froth milk after 1 min, right ? actually, can you do both at the same time, brew and froth? 2nd scenario: pull an espresso, after 1 min froth the milk for a latte. Would you say that the following is true: due to the steam used to froth, the water - brewing-, inside the pipe that passes through the middle of the radiator (inside the machine) gets some extra C degrees in the process ? if so, if you would want to pull a 2nd shot of espresso after only 2 mins (so < 3-max 4 mins cycle) you would have a higher than needed brew temp (due to the steam from the frothing) and it's mandatory to :1. wait 15 mins for it to cool down on it's own or 2. flush some water ? Many thanks

    When talking about different roasts of beans and temperature. I’d like to know if in real life one actually makes these changes for every new coffee roast one tries out or maybe real life is more a standard temperature “ one sets .

      Not easily, you could treat it a bit like an HX but even then that wouldn't be quite the same as the boiler will have cooled. I think either make all the coffees one after another with the appropriate short wait times, or if you leave it too long just wait the required short time for it to stabilise again. I think this is why there is still a place for dual boiler machines like the Bianca etc.. for certain users.

    Hi Dave, very nice video indeed! Just one question: How did you build your temperature measuring portafilter? Looks like it is not a Scace (which is very expensive) but it works the same way. Always want to build something like this myself to do these measurements but did not find any good DIY manual. Doing this with a real coffee puck and a K-Thermocouple is always a mess and gives unreliable results.

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  4 роки тому +2

      I built it about 16 years ago, long before the Scase was around, it is in fact closer to a Scace II than the original scace. I made a simulated coffee bed and place the thermocouple 3mm inside it, via a hole and a nut/bolt with a hole in it, in the side of an inner steel basket, that I sealed up so it couldn't blow out under 9 bar pressure. The flow rate has to approximate a coffee puck ans the permeability of the medium has to be similar. I use a packed polyester to do this and it tool a long time to get right. I built it because back then no one was testing the temp of prosumer kit, except me!

      If I stated it can, it can because I tested it., in fact now you have coffee mode and steam boost mode (they removed HX mode), for even better stability for pure espresso. You would use steam boost mode for your work pattern and as long as you don't wait too long, it will do what you want.
