Thank you. I was quite confused and scared to go overboard. Currently just gathering more knowledge on bleach ratios and their effects. There's so much more that goes behind this and a good hair colour... Thanks for this video. Found it quite helpful.
You are most welcome, thanks for watching. I’m so pleased you found it helpful….my channel is packed with hair colour tip/usage/techniques etc…
Wow had absolutely no clue that more peroxide equaled less lift. I've been doing it backwards. Thank you so much. You are a lifesaver
So glad I could help! Thanks for watching and your kind words.
🙋🏽♀️omg same here..🙄😂
It's mainly because developer is acidic. If you add more you lower the pH of the mixture, which makes it take longer to raise the cuticles and get into the cortex of the hair to start dissolving pigments.
@@theworldofcraig as im leaning and have a test on this soon, if I can please ask what is 1.9% would that be my peroxide which is 4% strength the 1.9% will be used the take iut the blind bits aways and do the rest of hair in the section to match the highlights what they already have, the persons hair was originally black but its now dyed brown with highlights the highlights are just at the bottom wouod this be a much bigger job please help if you can, and this videos was helpful I didn't know the less the amount of peroxide the better the lift so is this lift need a toner or colour in top if it. what shade you recommend her highlights are like a blondis. Hope you can help very helpful video Thank you
Oh! I didn’t know that. Wow, that’s a tip I never knew I needed! Thank you so much!
You’re most welcome, so happy I shared it. Thanks for watching. My full length tutorials are PACKED with tips… 👨🏼🙏🏻✨
You are concise. Appreciate you!!!!
And thank you for your kindness! 👨🏻🙏🏻
You're actually amazing. Thanks so much for your knowledge! ❤️
And you’re very kind…thank you! 👨🏻🙏🏻
@@theworldofcraig you're welcome! ❤️
Thank you ..!! you summed it up quick & so simple.. I was doing it completely the opposite way .. :0)
You’re welcome, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment - there’s a more in depth video on my channel in my main videos.
This is great info to know! Thank you so much!❤
With that info in mind…
Would lightener in a 1:1 ratio with level 20 developer yield a similar result as lightener in a 1:2 ratio with 30 developer? (Not a professional here obviously!)
Awww, that’s great, so pleased it helps.
I’m afraid there’s no definitive answer to that - so many factors and each head of hair is different. I do have a playlist on here FULL of long form bleaching videos and another with step - by - step processes…all of which were 20vol.
New 5 TOP tips for bleaching coming SOON!
We do exactly the same 👍
Brilliant…love a ratio.
When talking 1:2 ratio which one is the developer n which one is the colour.. ? Is 1 the colour or developer?
When I mention ratios with bleach it’s always the bleach first.
I:2 mean 1 part bleach to 2 parts developer. so how much bleach you use double that for the developer. Hope this helps. And also you can add your vital shot into your mix also a toner pack like they have at Sally’s that will help tone out the orange red tones while bleaching.
@@overkill4x434 That’s right - I use ratios as they are a universal measurement.
I wouldn’t suggest adding anything to your lightener mix - but if you do, in my opinion I’d add extra bleach/peroxide…to the amount in grams of the additive.
@@theworldofcraigwhat’s the best type of measuring device you recommend for measuring Redken flashlight and developer? Also does Redken flash with bonding still need the same ration format? Thanks
THANK YOU
You’re welcome. 👨🏻🙏🏻✨
Crying idk I'm 15 dyeing my hair for the first time and I currently have bleach on my hair. I didn't really measure anything. I just mixed 1 tbsp of bleach and 1tbsp of developer. Let's see how my hair turns out😅
Hi there. Well, you kinda did - equal (1:1) is a good ratio if you have “virgin” hair.
How was it ?
Thank you for this information! If I'm adding olaplex no. 1 to the mix, does that change the ratios/lifting capability? I'm looking for high lift on naturally medium brown hair but still wanting to keep as much integrity as possible
You’re most welcome, thanks for watching. If I remember correctly, adding Olaplex No1 to any mix doesn’t mean you have to adjust anything - as long as you’re using the amounts they suggest. Have you tried @k18hair ? There are many videos on the line here on my channel…
@theworldofcraig I haven't yet, but I did subscribe to your channel so I'll make sure to watch those! Thank you again!
I thought more developer meant more lift lol…makes sense how this is wrong, you’re diluting the very thing that “bleaches” your hair…the bleach lmao…I’m doing 1:1 next time. Maybe that’s why it’s already taken me 2 bleaching sessions and I still need a third one to get to a 10
I’m so glad it helped, wahoo…and you’ve totally got the principle. Good luck with the bleaching. 👨🏼🙏🏻✨
One’s a powder and one’s a cream. Would the same ratios still be safe to use?
Hi there, it would depend on a few other factors - like which brand, how well you know the product, the hair it’s going to be used on etc etc…
Thanks I now get the number meaning!!!But if I were to use the bright powder white lightener packet will I have to use the same measurements if I use it all? If that makes sense !
I don’t know that product, you’d need to follow their guidelines…
Hey, i'm going to be bleaching my virgin black hair, but i just want it to turn out brown which would be a lift? Would you recommend I do the 1:3 ratio? Or should I try the 1:2 ratio as i've never dyed my hair before. The color i'm going for is a subtle dark brown color so i'd be grateful for ur advice.
Hello, thanks for watching.
Hmmm…that’s a tricky one without seeing your hair and there A LOT to it.
I’m assuming you don’t want the result to be warm…? So you need to lift the hair right up, beyond orange…then tone it to the result you want.
I’m an advocate of home colour but bleaching from black/really dark is very technical and perhaps best left to a professional.
If you do go ahead I would certainly recommend a 1:2 ratio…you need the “energy” to get the lift.
Please someone help me , I have a question about how to store the bleach powder after once you opened the package .
Cause I always thought we have to put the lid back on as will start oxidising from humidity same as peroxide . But the new place where I’m working my boss whenever she’s using bleach leaves the lid off and staying there all day open . When I’m
Using it I have noticed the lift is not as great
I don’t know if that could be the reason then how to tell her . Because she is the salon owner . Pls help me with your opinion. ❤ but I might me wrong and doesn't not affect the bleach quality. Thank you
Hi there
I can understand how you might be concerned but there would have to be an extreme amount of humidity (and it would have to be hanging around for a very long time!) for it to impact the lift of the lightener.
I have a question: the bottom half of my hair is orangey red (was red before) and the top half is dark brown (virgin hair). I was recommended to do a bleach bath for even color. Should I only apply the bath to the virgin hair? Idk how to go about it. My end goal is a dark ginger w red hues.
Hi there, it’s tricky for me to be specific without seeing your hair but a “bleach bath” isn’t “powerful” enough to lift your natural hair to match the mids/end you describe - there’s an entire bleaching playlist here on my channel that will help.
@@theworldofcraigThank you so much for responding. I really appreciate it!
I don’t expect the colors to be exact but as close as possible. If I could upload a photo here, I would. But since I can’t, I’ll be going through your playlist! :)
@@mxj28 Of course, you’re most welcome. Photos generally aren’t much help tbh - there’s so much to it, I only do consults in person.
I think you’ll find the playlist helpful. Please let me know how you get on.
1:2 means that the peroxide is more right? Or the bleach? (Im bleaching first time by myself and bought the bleach but dont know how to mix it. Thank you 🙏)
Is it safe, im scared
That’s right - 1 part bleach powder + 2 parts peroxide. Bleach is “safe” but it is also a powerful chemical…although I am an advocate of home toning/permanent hair colour usage, I would always advise bleaching be done by a professional.
How did it go?
What ratio do you recommend going for if the hair tends to break off and becomes stretchy?
Hi Nini, thanks for watching. That’s a tricky one - I would perhaps suggest staying away from lightening completely if the hair is really that fragile. I’m an advocate of low and slow - a lower volume of developer is generally better for the hair. There are many (many) full process bleaching tutorials on here and lots of other lightening education.
@@theworldofcraig hi, thanks for the response. I usually have really strong hair, but in the past years my hair became a bit fragiler because I used to use really strong bleaching products. Today I used a highlight kit from the drugstore which said it lightens only 3-5 levels. And it lifted really good. My hair is like a dark brown color with loads of red pigments (used box dye). My hair did intact survive and not a single strand has fallen out. But now I feel like I wanna have it even lighter.
I have a 20 volume ( 6% ) developer at home, will this destroy my hair if I use it?
You’re welcome, I’m glad you got a good result, wahoo! Although I’m not against home colouring at all, I would advocate being careful when it comes to bleaching multiple times yourself - perhaps get someone to help you and maybe leave a few days in between processes, using K18 leave in mask to repair.
@@theworldofcraig thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it.
I wish you all the best, thank you so much ☺️
Can I dilute my 30 vol developer to 10 vol while bleaching, if I used 1 part of bleach and 3 part of developer
Hi there, thanks for watching. Afraid not, that’s not how it works - the ratio “rules” are about “energy”….not diluting the peroxide. There are a few (longer explanations) here on my channel in my main videos.
1:2 ratio means 1 spoon powder or 2 spoon developer???? Right?
That’s right.
What is the measurement spoon or ounce? He mentioned spoon size, but can also be 1oz : 2oz?
@jenco2023 it’s a ratio - so you can use whatever measuring method you like.
That’s why I give all formulas etc in ratios.

How many grams of bleaching powder and how much liquid to mix the bleaching powder will i need for a buzz cut?
Of course it depends on the hair but I would perhaps suggest 50grams of bleach powder + 50grams of peroxide to start. Now that is a 1:1 ratio, so it’s the most “powerful” - if the hair is naturally very light I would use a 1:2. I have green eyes and brunette hair, so I always use a 1:1 mix
@@theworldofcraig Thanks for the quick response!
You’re welcome. Another tip is to make sure you apply enough bleach that you can’t see the hair through it…like frosting a cake!
1 to 1 is soooo thick
Hi there. It depends on the bleach powder…not all of them are thick at that ratio.
I want level 7 please tell me the ratio for that
Hi there
I’d need a little more information to be able to help - what level your hair is now…is it already coloured…the condition…how long it is???
Hy what ration i use volume and acceoator on black hair
Hi there, impossible for me to say without seeing your hair - It would depend on so many different factors…
1 part 2 parts what?!! I’m still confused
I part bleach powder + 2 parts peroxide. They are mixing ratios for bleaching.
@@theworldofcraig got it thank you, I was bleaching human bundles to add into one of my wigs, I managed it successfully, thanks for the help!
Who else came here they taught they didn’t mix it enough
Hi there. Sorry, I’m not sure what you mean…?
hi , is it okay to use a 1to1 ratio for the roots ? the 1to2 ratio with the redken bleach powder with the bonder inside is to thin , our should i mix it better 1to1,5 ?
Hi there, thanks for watching. You could - but as I mention, that’s a powerful ratio, so I would most likely (impossible to be exact without knowing more/being there) drop the peroxide volume.
thank you , is it okay for the roots With 20vol peroxide in a 1 to 1,5 ratio ?
@@gianna2112 No worries. Again, tricky for me to give you exact advise for ratios/volumes without being there/knowing more about the length of regrowth/canvas/integrity etc etc
@@theworldofcraig
okay , thank you !
bye
But how you measure? How much is one part?
So for example - if you have 20grams of bleach powder + 40grams peroxide = 1:2.
@@theworldofcraig yazzz!!!! Thank youuu Craig
What is 1 and what is 2?
That’s a ratio - I part bleach powder + 2 parts peroxide. I use ratios to share formulas etc as they are an international measure.
@@theworldofcraig thanks ❤️❤️
Wait (what):(what) . What ratioed what.
A ratio is a universal measurement - I part bleach : 2 parts peroxide…and so on.
@The World Of Craig so if I wanted to lighten more aka lift off more colour, I should add more developer(peroxide) . Correct ???
@@suchhun No, it’s the bleach powder/cream that has the “power” - the developer “dilutes” the energy to lift.
@@theworldofcraig all of this is confusing me a bit but would it be ok if I mixed the mixture until it looks pancakey?(meaning basically to eye it according to however much hair you have😬)
Hi Alexis, a ratio is a universal measure, eg - 10ml bleach + 20ml of peroxide = 1 part bleach + 2 parts peroxide = 1:2. I would never advocate eyeballing mixing up an product that uses a chemical reaction to get a result. If you run out and need to mix more, or get a great result and want the same mix next time, you’ll never get it and the lift will (for sure) be different.
I thought it was 2 to 2
Hi there. There are many ratios - 2:2 would be equal parts of each…
I don't understand :^
Hi Belinda
The “power” to lift the hair is in the bleach powder/cream and not the strength of the peroxide/developer you mix it with.
A 1 part bleach + 1 part developer mix is always going to give you the most lift.
I wouldn’t recommend using this mix with anything over 20 volume peroxide - and always take the texture/type/and condition of hair your lifting into consideration.
Hope that was helpful.
